I had the AstraZeneca a few weeks before I fell pregnant, I haven’t been for my second that was due a few weeks ago I didn’t know what to do 🤷‍♀️

AlltheQs · 03/06/2021 14:59

With regards to vaccine, obviously it’s so new that there isn’t going to be a lot of evidence either way. Literally zero medication is tested on pregnant women (inc paracetamol - the “evidence” for these just comes from people who have taken it as needed over the years).
The risk to mum and baby if you get COVID is currently much higher than getting the vaccine - I posted articles on previous threads, they are out there if you look.

Before it was very much 50/50 as most people were isolating anyway.

Main issue now is that so many people are vaccinated, everything is opening up again. People who are vaccinated can still carry and spread COVID even if they are protected from it, so the risk of pregnant people getting it now off much higher ( just because we’re out of lockdown and everyone is coming into contact with more people - for eg. Who knows of the midwife / nurse was at the pub a few nights ago).

It really is an assess your own risk and just be aware that although the Covid cases on the news may not be rising (because most population vaccinated) there is a WAY bigger risk of carriers of the vaccine now.

AlltheQs · 03/06/2021 15:01

Must add Disclaimer - medical background.

NOT trying to push people OR jydge anyone’s decisions, just really want to make sure the risks are known.

Really really surprised at someone being turned away though!!!

climbershell · 03/06/2021 16:19
@May2311 my midwife agree that it was best not to get the vaccine.
I asked have any babies been born where the mother was given the jab during pregnancy and she no, none at all. I then said so know one knows about any growth or development or delay issues it could cause.
She said I can’t say that but I agree anything could be found out later.
I was high risk for having the vaccine, ( I have drug allergies) so made my mind up not to get it until after the babies here.
Your midwife doesn't know what she's talking about. But then again, she's a midwife so not her place to know.

There have been pregnant women vaccinated, who have since had babies. There are not published studies on this, but that will come.

We also know that when mothers past 28 weeks have covid the rate of stillbirth nearly doubles, as does preterm delivery. The BBC did a study.

I will likely have the vaccine, I'm only 12+2 now. So hopefully the further studies will be published within the next 8 weeks so I'll then likely have both vaccines before getting to 28 weeks.

May2311 · 03/06/2021 16:49

You would think midwives/gp/docs would make it easy and have a blanket/unity response for ladies in our position! I suppose it is difficult with there being lack of evidence/research though.

Just to say my message earlier wasn't to say either way if you should or shouldn't get it it was basically me saying everyone needs to just assess the risk for themselves depending on the risk factors to them! 😘

Random question has anyone been booked in for their Glocouse tolerance test yet? Mine has been booked for 24+ 2- I thought with my first it had to be over 26 weeks. Does anyone know? Xxx

Sparklestars86 · 03/06/2021 17:09

My scan is tomorrow and I've booked in for my first vaccine on Saturday! I read the links helpfully posted on here previously and also from my other online searches I thought the general advice was make your own decision but the tone was generally supportive. Bit concerned to hear so many midwives expressing different views now!
I think I'll ask at the hospital tomorrow... Xx

1ce1cebaby · 03/06/2021 17:20

There have been babies born to women who have had the vaccine - and studies already on this I believe showing that the babies had antibodies? I agree there should be a uniform approach from all medical professionals on it however as the differing views is difficult for people to make decisions. My second vaccine was done by a midwife. Mad how they can have such varying opinions and advice on the matter!

Em39ma · 03/06/2021 17:28

As I said I’m high risk of a severe drug reaction, so my midwife may of based it off that too. I’m also almost 43. They won’t give me the flu jab either.

climbershell · 04/06/2021 08:58

Due date moved back 2 days, now 16 Dec

Baby was in wrong position, so I had to wiggle my hips 😅 it was wiggling loads too 😍

Finally had my booking in appointment (at 11 weeks) and midwife gave me my scan date for next week! Thought I was going to have to wait longer so very excited. I’m going to be under shared care because of pregnancy history which I’m happy with as feel like completely consultant could have made me quite anxious.

Sparklestars86 · 04/06/2021 09:57

Lovely scan pic @climbershell 💞💞 xx

TakeYourFinalPosition · 04/06/2021 11:08

Congratulations @climbershell! What a cute scan.

You are due 3 days before me at the moment (although my scan isn't until next Tuesday so it could all be moved)

Horehound · 04/06/2021 11:16

Nice scan @climbershell congrats!!

Mayneedanextraroom · 04/06/2021 11:41

It’s really interesting to read about different midwife advice re the vaccination, thanks for the info @AlltheQs i think I need to think about my decision on my second jab a bit more.

Hope your scan goes well today @Sparklestars86

What a fab scan pic @climbershell glad it went well :)

Sparklestars86 · 04/06/2021 13:09

@climbershell we have swapped! I've had my scan this morning and was working towards 16th but they've put me as 14th!
All was fine- baby laid on its tummy but wiggling arms and legs. She said the neck measurement look fine etc too. My sister had warned me not to panic if sonographer didn't speak much but she was so chatty and reassuring which was lovely. 💕 Xx

climbershell · 04/06/2021 13:33

Very chuffed 😄 tho little gutted 2 days closer to Xmas lol

My private scan saw a cyst on left ovary, but it appears to have disappeared

Also been moved from high risk to low risk pregnancy 🙂

Theawkwardblonde · 04/06/2021 13:53

Thanks ladies for the input on not driving. Lots of useful insights!

I'm 10+5, and having a none sickness day which gets me panicky. Yesterday was HELL for sickness, as has been the last 4 weeks. But today I'm feeling pretty chirpy, which has me terrified ive miscarried.
Please tell me it's normal to panic with every lack of symptom? Still have sore breasts but I'm getting so nervous about another MC despite having had 2 perfectly fine scans so far.

tuxedocat · 04/06/2021 14:26

@Theawkwardblonde yes, so normal! Spent all day worrying as my sore boobs went and they’re back today.

10-11-12wk is around the time most people start to ease off as the placenta takes over and the hormones regulate. Though it’s easier saying it than believing it!

I had my scan letter super fast - but I’ll be 13+5 when I go, and I worry it’s cutting it fine for the first tri screening. What’s everyone’s thoughts? I had it at 12+2 with my son so had tonnes of room. I’m glad i had a private scan as they brought my 3 days forward and If that wasn’t the case then we’d be over the threshold.

Theawkwardblonde · 04/06/2021 14:40

@tuxedocat yes I keep reading about the placenta taking over. I think I'm just in shock as yesterday was horrendous and the last few weeks were awful too.
It's very odd! My scan is a week Wednesday. Husband won't go for another private one so I'm just anxiously waiting.

Pineapple87 · 04/06/2021 14:58

Anyone getting period like cramps? I did do a bit of gardening for couple hours yesterday it really feels like I’m gonna come on I really hope not i am 11.3
Just so worrying my scan isn’t for 12 days I haven’t had any private scans never MC. I’m hoping it normal, I had my DD14 Years ago so I can’t remember much of how I felt.

Cumspe · 04/06/2021 15:37

Not sure where the week has gone. I am exhausted waiting for the boost of energy that is supposed to come with the placenta taking over. I had my 12wk scan both babies are doing well. Lovely to see them wriggling around so much. My EDD was pushed back 1 day to 14 Dec.

@climbershell lovely scan picture

Hope everyone is doing well.

TreeRoad · 04/06/2021 16:11

Hope everyone’s getting on OK.

I’m absolutely exhausted these days. I’ve only done 4 days at work because of the bank holiday on Monday and I feel like I’ve been going for about 2000 years. It’s hard work growing humans.

@Cumspe Glad your two are doing well! Are you 12 weeks now? I’m 13+3 and I’m still waiting on that magical energy boost. I think it’s a myth now 😂

@climbershell The scan pic looks lovely! Very clear!

Cumspe · 04/06/2021 16:45

@TreeRoad I am 12+3. I have found this week to be the most tiring not sure if the heat made it worse. Growing is indeed hard work 😓 but also such an adventure 🙂

TreeRoad · 04/06/2021 17:08

@Cumspe Yeah I think the heat would’ve made it harder. Not to mention because you’re growing two people!

Definitely worth the fatigue, nausea and all the other delightful symptoms. The good will far, far outweigh the bad bits. 6-7 months from now this level of tiredness will seem like a dream when compared to 2 hourly night feeds. 😆

Elm98 · 04/06/2021 19:31

Hello ladies!
Well after me waiting all that time for a letter to come through for a 12 week scan, it came through via text yesterday Grin
Roll on the 18th June; I’ll be 12+3 then, me and DP are so very excited.

In regards to the driving I wouldn’t worry too much, I myself drive but my sister doesn’t and has two little ones and manages fine with walking, public transport and the odd lift from myself or family if a longer journey.

Also regarding the Covid vaccine, I had my first one and it completely altered my cycle because I felt ill a few days but I swear by it considering the only thing I did differently was have the jab and we had been trying forever! (Astra Zeneca) by the time my second one came around I was already pregnant Grin (yes it’s complete coincidence)

I didn’t realise I was pregnant when having the second one was only around 3/4 weeks but no adverse effects on little bean and just glad to be protected.

I know not everyone feels the same but I’m very Pro vaccine and would always recommend having it where possible, but obviously completely understand why ladies are concerned or not having it.

Hope you are all feeling great and having a good week, for those further along and carrying bump I hope the heatwave hasn’t made your week too uncomfortable! Flowers
