They want to do me a VQ scan that involves me breathing some radioactive gas and then an inyection of a radioactive liquid to take pictures of the blood vessels in my lung. They say the risk of radiation to me and the baby is low and want me to start on blood thinners inyections from now even thought the blood clot has not been confirmed. I just feel so worried about this decision as the PE sounds scary but at the same time my baby is the priority. Has anyone had this VQ scan done? I'm worried as I have a bruising in my womb and don't know if the blood thinners would make me bleed and wash away the pregnancy.

AnonymousXXIX · 03/06/2021 07:14

@Theawkwardblonde we have licenses but no car. Especially during lockdown we just didn't see the point investing in one, when you can walk or cycle everywhere around town. If we need to go further afield with baby, post-lockdown, we have a train station that's walking distance. For daycare, I especially want something in walking distance (i.e. half an hour) because driving in morning traffic sounds like hell! My whole family seems to be panicking about the lack of a car, but I am currently not worried at all?

MushroomQueen · 03/06/2021 07:42

Sorry I fell off previous thread hi all

Elizabeth134 · 03/06/2021 08:23

Oh @Hopesandsunshines how stressful for you!
I had a VQ scan at 6/7 weeks as I managed to contract pneumonia at the start of this pregnancy. They prefer VQ scans as they are a lot lower in radiation.
I’m not sure on the blood thinners - how many weeks are you?

I had a bleeding in my womb in my pregnancy with my son and lost what seemed like a lot of blood at 14 weeks which was him growing so much he moved it - he was absolutely fine though.

Hopesandsunshines · 03/06/2021 08:49

@Elizabeth134 yes it is very stressful, it is reassuring to know of other people that had it and that it ended up well. I am only 10 weeks.

Emmgrem · 03/06/2021 09:05

@burtle4 I'm the same. First midwife appt yesterday at 11+3 and still no scan date- she said it should be within the next 2-3 weeks! Well by 3 weeks I'll be past the 14 week point! 🙈

She also said she wouldn't get the covid jab if she were me because it's too new and effects aren't known. That's thrown me hearing it from a midwife as I was all set to get it after 12 weeks!

burtle4 · 03/06/2021 09:28

@Emmgrem I'm so confused about the vaccine too, I think it was on another thread but someone said they basically got turned away from their vaccine appointment because they were in their first trimester and person doing it said they shouldn't have it until much later as no eveidence to suggest it will be ok. I'm thinking I may book in for around 20 weeks when baby is a bit more developed but no idea if that's any better 🤷🏻‍♀️

cloud2021 · 03/06/2021 09:46

I don’t know if this can help, but I had my vaccine at 13weeks as both midwife and Gp said it was fine to have at any stage... they also said that by having it at beginning of second trimester means you will have second dose at beginning of the third and you will be fully protected then. Contracting covid in the last trimester is the most risky bit...

AnonymousXXIX · 03/06/2021 09:54

Just had a scan and baby is still there, so relieved! Still measuring a week smaller than I thought though so officially only 10 weeks now.

I asked them about getting my 2nd vaccine when I was there just now (will hopefully be 18 weeks then), and no one seemed concerned about it @Emmgrem. (Had my first one at 7 weeks and everything is totally fine so far.)

TakeYourFinalPosition · 03/06/2021 09:56

@Theawkwardblonde I can't drive for medical reasons, although I'm hoping that might be changed before I give birth, it depends on the backlog. But if not, I'll just carry on as I usually am, buses or trains where I need to but mostly walking.

@AnonymousXXIX Great news on the scan!

Mayneedanextraroom · 03/06/2021 09:58

@Hopesandsunshines that sounds scary, I hope the scan goes well, I know it must be really hard but you need to be well and it sounds like they’re looking after you. Thinking of you x

@Emmgrem my midwife said exactly the same, now I’m not sure I’m going to get my second jab ...

Mayneedanextraroom · 03/06/2021 09:59

Great news on your scan @AnonymousXXIX Smile

tuxedocat · 03/06/2021 11:02

@Emmgrem same - I was booked on Tuesday at 10+5 and she said it was likely I’d get in but I’m 11w today and 3 weeks seems quite slim when people usually wait for 4 weeks. Unsure if they do it on dates? They must do surely! Fingers crossed for us both.

AnonymousXXIX · 03/06/2021 11:13

Still so puzzled by my dates, just staring at my calendar. The whole sequence of events is just so unlikely, on top of our issues with mfi.

If I am 10 weeks now, then I was 4 weeks on cycle day 36. Normally I ovulate cd 12 or 13 and my cycles were a consistent 24-26 days... or if anything, shorter! After the fertile window, we only dtd on cycle day 15, 22 and 29. Did I ovulate super late? Did it implant super late? Both?!!

Horehound · 03/06/2021 11:18

Fertilising the egg can take a number of days and so can implantation. I wouldn't overthink it just concentrate on due date :)

burtle4 · 03/06/2021 11:48

@AnonymousXXIX a good way to try and work out when you ovulated is if you can remember when you first got a positive test and go from being 4 weeks then. I'm sure it just sounds like for whatever reason you ovulated late that month, the month I got pregnant I ovulated really early and was convinced I'd missed the window! Seeing a healthy baby at 10 weeks is really positive so just focus on that if you can x

AnonymousXXIX · 03/06/2021 12:03

Oh yeah I am very happy, don't worry :)

And it does explain why my test had such a faint line at what I thought was 5 weeks (but was actually only 4 weeks), so it all makes sense. Just blowing my mind how many tiny unlikely things came together in April!

Horehound · 03/06/2021 12:08

Hehe yep it is crazy. I had two ovulation surges in Feb after only having two periods since DS was born 21 months ago. We couldn't even be arsed having sex but I was like oh we probably should since I just got another positive ovulation. I had been testing for the two weeks beforehand when I had my first ovulation and was squinting under lights to see any positive lines on the pregnancy tests.
So when I got that second chance I was like yeh we really should, and then 9 days later the line came up straight away!! Couldn't believe my eyes!

May2311 · 03/06/2021 12:26

It's so bizarre how I bodies work! I'm sure they just like to trick us with ovulating/dates etc!!!

On the vaccine front my midwife said it had to be my choice but that although the risk in 3rd trimester if you get it is very slightly increased, they can't say what impact it could have on baby once it is here ( basically any physical or development concerns as they grow). Those who can't decide I think you just need to assess the risk specifically to you. So I work from home and have no health conditions so feel I could keep myself safe just by isolating a bit( not like I'm not used to it haha) xxx

Em39ma · 03/06/2021 13:34

@May2311 my midwife agree that it was best not to get the vaccine.
I asked have any babies been born where the mother was given the jab during pregnancy and she no, none at all. I then said so know one knows about any growth or development or delay issues it could cause.
She said I can’t say that but I agree anything could be found out later.
I was high risk for having the vaccine, ( I have drug allergies) so made my mind up not to get it until after the babies here.

That's strange. My midwife said we would be passed onto a consultant who would talk about the vaccine and risks associated but that he was generally very supportive of pregnant women having it and lots of women in her care had the vaccine.

tuxedocat · 03/06/2021 13:52

At my booking in my MW said the choice was personal but guidance said it was ok but it would need to be Pfizer or moderna - not sure how you can ask which one is done though.

I think if I do get it, I’ll get it from 20w onwards. She did say it would be helpful for my husband to get it ASAP to help. My only concern is giving birth in December where colds etc are rife if that will be a problem.

AnonymousXXIX · 03/06/2021 14:20

@tuxedocat I have done thorough research on working out how you can know which vaccine you get, and it seems that the NHS makes sure you cannot be booked for one you shouldn't have. So in my case the system knows I am under 40 and pregnant, and it will only offer vaccination locations that offer Pfizer or Moderna. My first one, the GP was able to confirm it would be Pfizer. The second one, it seems obvious from the location (not my nearest vaccination centre), and my midwife also assured me today that the system to have only allowed me to book another Pfizer.

So strange all your midwifes seem against it! I have asked my GP, midwife, hospital midwife AND sonographer haha, and then also the admin at the vaccination centre AND the man vaccinating me (I just needed some reassurance I guess lol) and allllll of them were completely fine with it.

Horehound · 03/06/2021 14:22

my midwife is for it and so am I :)

tuxedocat · 03/06/2021 14:24

@AnonymousXXIX thank you! I was only booked in this week, I’ve had covid texts for a few weeks. So perhaps I’ll wait for the system to get updated with the fact I’m pregnant, and see what locations it gives me. I was certain my GP only did AZ but I shall see.

Same though - everyone I’ve spoken to has been very pro vaccine so I think I will take it, but a little later. I still have time to think. It really is a difficult choice.
