Lovely bumps! I will try and get a photo at some point... I had a lovely weekend out and about with friends but back down this morning because I've woken up with a stinking cold 😫 I feel yuck!

lucyrp · 21/06/2021 08:26

@Clairey844 yeah good thank you, we've been away this weekend the 3 of us before we become 4 and its been lovely. Going home today so not looking forward to all of the washing! Time to start thinking about my hospital bag now soon 🀣 how are you ?

Kirky658 · 21/06/2021 11:45

Morning ladies!
@lucyrp glad you had a good time away, hate coming home! X
@kate105 oh no! Get well soon x

Here's my bump pic! Just had 28 week check, she's growing well and where she should be, heartbeat etc all fine. Weird to think next time I see the midwife I will be past 30 weeks 😬

@Kirky658 how lovely, glad all is good.

@lucyrp happy you got away before the chaos!

Has anyone tested out any old wives tales to predicting the sex? I love all that stuff even though it's nonsense.

OP posts:
2020mission · 21/06/2021 21:04

@Justanothercyster oh what are the old wives tales? I'm willing to join in for fun! The only ones I've heard of is morning sickness means you're more likely to have a girl... and carrying high or low means something too? I have no real bump so can't take part in that one yet πŸ˜…

Kirky658 · 21/06/2021 21:17

@justanothercyster I was told because I was craving savoury stuff it was a boy! And because I had a small compact bump it was a boy. Both were incorrect 🀣 funny to guess though!

lucyrp · 21/06/2021 21:44

@2020mission I was really ill with my first until second trimester and he was a boy so πŸ˜‚

@Justanothercyster we've done the wedding ring one where you dangle it and see what happens and thag gave us boy guesses but I've done nub theory etc and they all say girl

Justanothercyster · 22/06/2021 06:48

@2020mission there's loads haha, all the ones @lucyrp and @Kirky658 have said so far, heartburn, mixing your wee with cleaning stuff, how 'ugly' you get during pregnancy (πŸ˜‚), the baby's heart rate, etc. Google it it's funny! Complete nonsense of course!

OP posts:
2020mission · 22/06/2021 12:22

Ok I had a google...

Sweet (girl) vs salty (boy) cravings
Not helpful as I'm switching between craving sugary fruits and salted popcorn πŸ˜†

Frequent headaches = boy
I've had about 5 migraines in the last 7 weeks but my only symptoms were the vision loss and pins and needles - never a real headache πŸ€”

Feeling moody (girl) or mellow (boy)
I lean towards boy here haven't had any moods (so far)!

Pregnancy acne = girl
None so far but maybe too early? Boy

Baby heart rate > 140 bpm = girl
No one told us our baby's heart rate at the first scan so no idea...

Carrying high = girl, low = boy
Too soon for me. I'm sure you all can do this one though seeing all the bump snaps.

Quick question for you all... my next appointment is at 16 weeks with a community midwife but I have no idea what happens at it. Can anyone remember what it involved? I'm guessing it will be a quick one since there's been no mention of tests happening. Really just wondering if I should book a full day off work or if an hours enough (it's first thing at 9am).

I still haven't told work πŸ˜… when did you all share the news? It's too easy to hide right now as we're still working from home. I was going to wait until the 20 week anomaly scan but I do wonder if it's leaving it a bit late.

Kirky658 · 22/06/2021 12:50

@2020mission my 16 week check was about 30 mins. Had urine checked, BP checked, listened to heartbeat, asked a few questions, that was it! Xx

2020mission · 22/06/2021 13:02

Thanks @Kirky658 ohh would be nice to listen to the heartbeat hopefully she gives me that option 🀞 I'm so glad it's not at the maternity hospital where I had the scan it was such a long wait there between the scan and bloods. I think I'll only have to go back there for the second scan but everything else should be with the community midwife.

Justanothercyster · 22/06/2021 13:23

According to that @2020mission mines a girl, bump isn't quite big enough though. I also think girl based on nub theory as @lucyrp mentioned. Eeeeek.
As for 16 week apt I never had one because of change of area but apparently they go through blood results and do some quick weight checks etc, not overly exciting.

Scan in an hour! So happy to finally see bub again, feels like ages since 12 week scan!

@justanothercyster yayyyy!!!!! Enjoy it x

2020mission · 22/06/2021 14:20

@Justanothercyster I wondered when your next was, enjoy! πŸ˜ƒ i think girl too from my scan nub although it was early on so could easily be wrong

Justanothercyster · 22/06/2021 17:15

Scan went well, all healthy and looking good :) we definitely have a wriggler, and he/ she takes after dad with very long legs apparently!

@justanothercyster yayyyyy!!!!!!! Hopefully you can enjoy it now the scary bit is out the way.. Xx

2020mission · 22/06/2021 18:03

Aww lovely @Justanothercyster πŸ˜ƒ out of curiosity did they offer to tell you the gender? I know you don't want to find out but was wondering if they do offer. Did the scan take much longer than the 12 week one? It's a shame you don't get more scans in pregnancy but I suppose as you grow bigger and feel kicks, that will reassure you!

Justanothercyster · 22/06/2021 18:36

@Kirky658 definitely! Dh has waited to start buying stuff but now he's got the go ahead haha.

@2020mission yeah she asked if we wanted to find out so that she could tell us when to look away etc. It did take more time as they have a thorough check over every tiny thing to make sure there's no anomalies. Yeah I'm not as anxious now, and you get to meet with midwife every 4 weeks and can listen to heartbeat etc to reassure yourself :)

OP posts:
Kirky658 · 22/06/2021 18:38

@2020mission I remember being amazed how quick my 12 week scan was but the 20 week one I was in there for 45 mins!!!! Like @justanothercyster once you're past the 20 weeks point you see the midwife every 4 weeks ish anyway and hear the heartbeat which is fab!

2020mission · 22/06/2021 18:51

@Justanothercyster ohh so they might tell us the gender then! Will have to wait and see. We really don't mind what the gender is but we just want to know so we can pick the name and just get more used to the idea of son or daughter πŸ˜… had no idea you'd get an appointment every 4 weeks now, that's definitely going to be easier! The worst has definitely been the long wait to the 12 week scan with nothing other than a quick booking phone call.

@Kirky658 oh really 45 mins? Didn't think it would be that long but I imagine it doesn't feel as long since you can see the baby on screen the whole time

Justanothercyster · 22/06/2021 19:58

@2020mission oh they will tell you for sure if you want to know :) although it's the anomaly scan they know people go for the gender haha. Yeah the 12 week wait was torture!

OP posts:
Kate105 · 22/06/2021 20:34

Beautiful pic @Justanothercyster glad all is well! So have you decided to wait for a surprise?

Just to jump on the old wives tales... none of those ones you've talked about give me any conclusive answer haha. Broad 50-50 split! Has anyone tried the Chinese calendar one? That's a bit of craic. It says boy for me πŸ‘€

Kirky658 · 22/06/2021 20:47

@2020mission yeah I did have a student sonographer as well though 🀣
@kate105 the Chinese calendar said girl for us which was right haha

SamoyedFan123 · 22/06/2021 20:50

Lovely scan photo @Justanothercyster, I'm so glad it went well. Time to relax a bit now πŸ˜ƒ

Goodish news here - i finally got my anti c antibodies levels back a week after the second lot of blood was taken abd they've come back at a low enough level that apparently the risk of HDN is down as 'unlikely'. Such a relief. I am supposed to have some special kind of scan called an MCA doppler though, which is something to do with checking the arteries in the brain, and repeat bloods every two weeks. They're doing the scan and bloods on Thursday but since my induction is booked for Monday I doubt it will make any difference now. Got to see the consultant on Thursday too so hoping for a sweep to get things moving.
