I was heartbroken last night. Have a gorgeous new bath which I adore, so after tea went straight up and filled it for a long soak.... 15mins in I move and accidentally press the click clack plug with my giant arse and out all the water silently drains in a minute. Who hell designed them things? 😭

Daffodil21 · 19/05/2021 18:21

My midwife called and bloods showed high for glucose 🙄 looks like I'll be needing that fasting test on Friday after all 😒 has anyone here had gestational diabetes before?

Hi everyone! How are you all doing? I’m 10 pages behind 🙈 need to catch up!

@BertieBotts thanks for another great blog post! Hope good little one’s head is ok today!

@Daffodil21 sounds like you had a bit of a scare, glad all ok. No experience of Gestational diabetes but I know 3 people who have, it’s a lot of injections by sounds of it but hopefully your test will come back negative!

@alittlexmasmagic Noooo soo annoying, friend moaned her baby kept doing the same thing and draining the water! Makes the Bath less relaxing!

Hope everyone has been well! I had my 28 week appt yday, bump plotting a bit small so off for a growth scan next week.

notinthestarsigns · 19/05/2021 19:49

Is anyone else struggling with clothes? I’ve ordered quite a few maternity bits now but keep on sending them back as they all seem to be massive 😩 I’ve got a couple of pairs of jeans from new look that are fine, but most of the other maternity stuff seems so big still, but a lot of my normal clothes don’t fit comfortably any more so at a bit of an awkward in between stage! I know it’s only another few months but it would just be nice to be able to wear a few decent bits rather than live in baggy t shirts and leggings, especially with starting to see people a bit more.

alittlexmasmagic · 19/05/2021 19:54

@notinthestarsigns I've got some from new look, jeans and t-shirts but mostly I wear non-maternity stuff. I've got several maxi dresses which are just so comfortable, it's like wearing a nightie all day but look respectable.x

notinthestarsigns · 19/05/2021 20:02

H&M do some nice t shirt dresses (non maternity) so might try a couple of them that could do me when we finally get some warmer weather and would be a change from the t shirts and leggings, I know it’s daft to buy too much but when I’m not pregnant I’m a bit of a nightmare with buying new clothes all the time so it’s a difficult habit to break!

lucyrp · 19/05/2021 20:08

@notinthestarsigns I've found it quite easy actually, only purchased 2 pairs of maternity leggings so far, have 2 maternity bodycon dresses and then 2 bodycon maxi skirts which I can change up with different tops etc. I do work full time though so only have to dress bump on days off or in the evening x

wimbler · 19/05/2021 21:34

@notinthestarsigns I’m really struggling with maternity clothes this time around. I prefer the more fitted style but a lot of the dresses are far too dressy if that makes sense. I don’t want to look like I’m going to a club!! Also this weather makes it hard, not quite warm enough for the stuff I actually like that I’ve already bought and my maternity stuff from my first pregnancy is all winter stuff 🙇🏼‍♀️

notinthestarsigns · 19/05/2021 22:00

@lucyrp sounds like you’re doing quite well!

@wimbler the weather definitely isn’t helping! I think I thought I would be living in comfy dresses but it’s not really been the weather for it the last few weeks, hopefully the weather will get a bit better soon. Although I may regret saying that when I’m massive and it’s roasting hot!

Inmypjsagain · 19/05/2021 23:07

I’m impressed at those of you in non maternity clothes! My old jeans just laugh at me now, they look comically tiny.

I’ve got 2 pairs of leggings- some old baggy T-shirts, 2 pairs of maternity jeans, 2 dresses, 2 maternity T-shirt’s and a long shirt dress appropriate for work. I’m not really going out much atm though, so I’m mainly in pjs and home wear tops. I don’t really want to spend much more on clothes, I finish work next month so don’t want to waste money on work appropriate clothes to not wear them for long! Hoping that’ll do me but it depends if my thighs continue to expand...

I’m going to give myself a nice pedicure this weekend. Quite sure this will be the last week I’ll be able to reach my toes...!

Ready2020 · 19/05/2021 23:24

I've bought 3 maternity dresses, all quite different, 2 maternity leggings and loads of massive pants. Plus 2 new bras. Oh and one maternity top as one of the dresses is a dungarees dress thing (purple cord... Not as bad as it sounds...) so I wanted a top for under it. I think that'll do me as I've other dresses that I can wear at home that ride up a bit at the front. I don't tend to wear jeans in the summer anyway. I just want to make sure I'll not get too warm.

I really do feel massive already and can't believe that I'll get bigger. I think I've been a bit bloated though recently what with the iron tablets.

I've really been noticing my hip joints getting sore. Not much I can do about that I guess except to rest up when I can.

lucyrp · 20/05/2021 01:09

@wimbler this is how I've coped. If it's hotter than 10 degrees I wear a dress otherwise I get too hot from hot flushes. If colder than 10 degrees west leggings 🤣 when I wear dresses I can style them down with crop jumpers over the top etc. I was actually quite impressed with how I've styled myself with so little clothes 🙈

wimbler · 20/05/2021 09:42

@lucyrp I'm cold all the time - in 10 degrees i'm in about 3 layers and a coat! I'm at work for most of the time and it's that aspect of clothing that's proving difficult. I work in a customer facing office so can't be too casual but it's getting to the point where leggings are going to have to do! hopefully I can dress them up somehow. I've only got a month left so really don't want to buy any more clothes. The under the bump smart trousers I own have just started getting really uncomfortable as they sit right where my c-section scar is. I bought some isabella oliver trousers on vinted for £5 the other day though which is a bargain as their stuff is pricey usually.

lucyrp · 20/05/2021 10:44

Sorry just quickly popping on has anyone else had this- baby's movements when active are making me throw up ??🤢

BertieBotts · 20/05/2021 10:56

I'm too big for most of my maternity stuff which is really irritating - the tops aren't long enough so my belly hangs out. But it's not consistently warm enough for dresses which are really practical because they cover any sized bump and look fine.

Tunic type tops and leggings seem to be the most flexible in between option. I have some somewhere but I need to dig them out. Maybe I'll make DH climb onto a chair and look on top of the wardrobe.

I had my 28 week check up yesterday. Glucose 1 hour test which wasn't as bad as I thought except I kept burping sugary disgustingness for the rest of the appointment! Lying down CTG for half an hour (seems to be a German thing) where baby kept kicking the monitor and moving away from it. Doctor commented "This baby moves a lot" when she saw the print out.

She doesn't recommend the CV vaccine (any) unless there are underlying risk factors or higher risk conditions e.g. occupation, which wouldn't apply here - I wasn't even allowed to continue working in retail! All teachers, medical staff etc are immediately signed off at the moment. I have set up a small local whatsapp group for expectant mums in 2021 though and out of the 5 of us 3 are really keen to get it/really worried about CV and the other 2 of us seem quite happy to accept the doctor's recommendation.

However she did recommend the whooping cough one this time, which was not explicitly offered to me last time, so I didn't take it. I decided I'd better say yes quick before I could talk myself out of it! I got so nervous that all the blood disappeared from my usually incredibly visible veins so they really struggled to get blood for my blood tests and then I got all shaky at the actual injection. So all of my arms are sore now but oh well. It will be better in a couple of days I think.

DS2 is feeling much better and was even back up and down the same ramp yesterday albeit more carefully.

biscuitcat · 20/05/2021 12:15

@notinthestarsigns I've bought some maternity cami tops which I'm wearing with pretty button up tops, but have them unbuttoned (plus maternity jeans). I figured that way I can still buy nice clothes and not feel bad that they're only really for a few months!

Definitely starting to get heartburn more regularly now which is not much fun! Does anyone have a recommendation for if Rennies or Gaviscon are more effective?

Ava50x · 20/05/2021 12:29

@biscuitcat I personally found Rennie's more effective than Gaviscon, and tablets more effective than liquid, but you'd probably need to try and see what works for you. I'm currently on Omeprazole because its the only thing effective at curbing this incessant heartburn!

notinthestarsigns · 20/05/2021 12:33

Thanks all for your input on the clothes front! I think I need to empty my wardrobes of everything that I won’t be wearing for the foreseeable (will need to do this anyway given we are hopefully moving in about six weeks!) and then at least I’ll be clearly able to see what I have got to wear, I’ve probably actually got enough to see me through but at the moment I just look at my wardrobe and see a whole load of clothes I can’t wear!

I had the whooping cough injection last Monday and still have a massive bruise from it now, but don’t know if that’s because I’m on blood thinning injections.

I’ve got a week off appts this week then growth scan and gd test next week.

@biscuitcat weirdly so far I’ve suffered with heartburn less than I do when not pregnant! A couple of rennies are usually my first “go to” but I know some people swear by gaviscon.

lucyrp · 20/05/2021 12:40

@biscuitcat I've had heartburn a couple of times this last week and purchased some gaviscon chewable tablets yesterday so will keep you updated! The tablets were much cheaper than the liquid too😅

BertieBotts · 20/05/2021 13:10

I've only used gaviscon so can't compare, it seems to work fine for me which is why I haven't tried anything else.

Daffodil21 · 20/05/2021 13:26

@lucyrp the tablets unfortunately do FA for me! I've been lucky not to have to buy gaviscon before so I was shocked at the price! I also accidentally bought the mint flavoured one which I'm choking down atm as I can't stand the flavour 😂

OP posts:
lucyrp · 20/05/2021 13:49

@Daffodil21 my friend recommended the tablets for me as they were the only thing that worked for her in pregnancy so I'll give them a go 🙈 £8 for a bottle!

Hoares3 · 20/05/2021 14:41

Hey ladies! Not been on for a while just been for my growth scan at 28+2 and baby boy is weighing 2 pounds 9!! Slightly on the small side so yet more scans to follow! Hope everyone is keeping well

biscuitcat · 20/05/2021 14:58

Thank you all 😊 a couple of Rennies have just taken the edge off for me and it sounds like experimenting with a variety of drugs will be the best way forward!

Inmypjsagain · 20/05/2021 17:42

Wow Bertie that sounds like it’s a really thorough check! I was on the ctg machine today for reduced movements and I kept failing the test- Daws Redman? Have to go back but I think it’s quite good that they do not as standard for you! Well done for getting the jab- I understand the freak out!

@Hoares3 I’m 28 + 2 too! Had my growth scan and my boy is 2lb 8oz, I think that’s 38 percentile and there wasn’t a suggestion I needed another scan, when will they be following up with you? Wondering if I should push for another, especially because of the reduced movement test.

Still need my whooping cough jab but am putting it off!

I love rennie- little godsend. Interested to see if the gaviscon tablets are good
