@Hoares3 oh that's odd as I have always read that at 28 weeks they should be around 2.5 and then at 29 2.9 🤷🏼‍♀️

Inmypjsagain · 20/05/2021 17:53

@lucyrp yeah my app says 2.5lb to 3.8lb but that covers weeks 28-31. My bump was lower than 10th centile though which is why I got referred for the scan but my sonographer said all fine- guess they have different measures for each woman and pregnancy? I’d quite like another scan if I’m honest...

lucyrp · 20/05/2021 17:55

@Inmypjsagain I don't get any more scans now at all so I don't know how they'd know, I don't think they used to measure your bump in my first pregnancy. On my app it says that week 28 is 2.5 so you should technically be above. Weird to think that must be the minimum so mine could be bigger than that already ?

Inmypjsagain · 20/05/2021 18:02

@lucyrp so at my 28 week appointment they measured bump and I guess they know what’s “standard” and if it’s too small in their opinion (under 10th centile I think) they refer you- same happens at 32 weeks. Wonder if you’ll get the same this time around? I know everyone’s midwife appts are different, this was the first time I heard the heartbeat on a doppler whereas others had that at 16 weeks. But yeah yours for sure could be bigger- my notes said 3oz over that is 38th centile so guess most babies are bigger by this point! Nice to attribute some of the weight gain to the actual baby 😂

alittlexmasmagic · 20/05/2021 18:29

I've played the indigestion relief roulette too 😂
I love orange rennies but they only sort mild symptoms. Gaviscon tablets are vile. The liquid works well but I hate aniseed so prefer the mint, and the texture... well I'm sure many of you know what it reminds me of 🙈😂. Anyhows, I now have Omezaprole from the GP. Fortunately it's eased off but it's made me a lot more routine with my meds as indigestion relief interferes with LevoThyroxine, I know a few of you also take it x

lucyrp · 20/05/2021 19:38

@Inmypjsagain midwife did say that at my appointment on Monday she would be measuring my bump but it must be a new thing as never known of it before! Such a weird way of guessing how big baby is though so unreliable 🙄🤣

Hoares3 · 20/05/2021 19:39

@lucyrp I had read that was a fine weight too so was confused when they said baby was measuring small 🤷🏻‍♀️
@Inmypjsagain I have got to go back in 2 weeks to be measured again then again at 32 weeks, they need to see some more weight gain I don't know I have been left very confused!

lucyrp · 20/05/2021 19:44

@Hoares3 I wouldn't worry too much I guess they're just following protocol or whatever and it might mean you get to see baby an extra time which no ones going to say no to are they! X

Hoares3 · 20/05/2021 19:45

@lucyrp yes they do like to make you worry though these babies 😂😂😂

lucyrp · 20/05/2021 19:47

@Hoares3 oh yes and the worry doesn't stop for a good decade or two 😂 I can't believe how active mine is atm was wondering whether maybe they were too active ! This last week I've been having proper rolling around in my belly and hard punches or kicks

HopefulB · 20/05/2021 20:01

I’m sure I remember reading that the belly measurement is something simple like a cm a week? But it’s not a a good reflection of babies growth..... the midwife sonographer explained that to me when I was asking about the measurements they took at 20week scan and decision to do growth scans. Apparently too many people were referred for growth scans based on bump measurements, and they still found they were missing SfGA babies. The uterine artery resistance measurement they take is apparently a better measure....

Caz1226 · 20/05/2021 20:33

Hi everyone
Weird question
I’ve bought quite abit from Amazon really for the little one and today I receive a bar of galaxy chocolate I’ve asked absolutely everyone I can think of if it’s been sent as a gift but no luck
Wondering if it’s from Amazon due number of r went purchases? Has anyone else had anything similar?
Thank you

Inmypjsagain · 20/05/2021 20:40

@alittlexmasmagic why is everything gaviscon related so gross 😂

@lucyrp yeah seems unreliable to me too, also they measure from the pubic bone so I hadn’t prepared my bikini region. I know they don’t care but I cared!!!! I think you asked before about a kick making you sick? I had that only once- I’m sure I was kicked in the stomach? Was horrible. But I’m getting more bladder/cervix kicks these days.

@Hoares3 it does sound confusing but it’s good they’re keeping an eye on it! I’d try not to worry- as I said our measurements are similar and the sonographer was happy, so upside you’re getting more scans 😊 I do find it weird how trusts do stuff so differently!

@HopefulB totally makes sense that the belly measurement isn’t reliable- everyone carries differently. I’m tall so assume my bump has more space than someone 9inches shorter. Having said that I’m happy to be referred for more scans- I was amazed in 8 weeks how much more proper baby like he looked in this scan! 🍼

BertieBotts · 20/05/2021 20:57

I have never once had my belly measured in Germany, only in the UK! So funny what they do and don't do.

Caz I think I would just enjoy it and not ask questions :o

Inmypjs I had to google that! Sounds very useful although I don't think they do that here. They just look at the print out and you do have to be on the monitor for ages whereas what I've just read with Dawes-Redman, once they've got a green light they take you off so you don't need to be monitored for as long. It is good they are keeping an eye on you because I think sometimes when you're this early on you can be fobbed off a bit. I'm sure they will do another scan if needed.

lucyrp · 21/05/2021 06:03

@Inmypjsagain I definitely haven't managed my pubic region for a couple of weeks although it is not getting out of hand from what I can see so surprising although I did say to OH I wanted to tackle that this evening so I'll give it a go before my 28 week appointment on Monday 😂 yeah it was me asking about kicks I've had it twice this week, the first time was like motion sickness from them being so active combined with heartburn which made me throw up and then this time I was having my nails done and I had a good few proper punches to my ribs etc and when I left I had to make a dash for the nearest supermarket to throw up 🤢

Daffodil21 · 21/05/2021 09:10

Just having my glucose tolerance test done - the drink I had didn't taste of much and was just a bit thicker than water. It was clear so I didn't have the orange one.

Currently got the ward to myself and the tv on so can't really complain!!

lucyrp · 21/05/2021 10:03

I'm suffering with a lot of aches and pains this morning combined with an upset stomach which makes me just want to go back to bed but unfortunately i am working 😩

wimbler · 21/05/2021 10:22

@lucyrp I had one of those days yesterday. Was just so uncomfortable. If you are WFH perhaps try and get in a few minutes of gentle yoga stretching or find a quiet spot at work (I hide in an empty meeting room!). I find that really helps with the aches and pains.

Inmypjsagain · 21/05/2021 11:49

@BertieBotts yeah, it was good- I think you can pass the test in 10 minutes otherwise it runs for an hour or so. I was hooked up for 4 hours in total with it before they gave me scan- pleased to be monitored but was boring. The CTG you had probably had a similar print out though, heart rate and movement? Pregnancy sounds very medicalised in Germany though!

@lucyrp oh no fun! I relate to the motion sickness element coupled with heartburn- I’m still getting daily morning sickness but this queasiness in the evening I’m sure is related to heartburn. It’s almost like food is talking longer to digest and it sits in my chest so too much movement in my belly makes me burp- I’ve only been sick from kicks once though. Maybe mention to midwife on Monday?

@Caz1226 no idea if that’s an Amazon but free chocolate is always amazing!

@Daffodil21 hope test went ok!!!

BertieBotts · 21/05/2021 11:57

Yes it's just a print out that they look at and say that's fine. Which apparently isn't as accurate as the computer saying so. It sounded really interesting, I showed it to DH because he loves all that machine learning stuff.

It's funny about it being medicalised. I would agree on many ways, they are big on screening and monitoring and prevention. However the actual birth process and the way they are with newborns is not. It's very hands off, midwives will support you to be in different positions during labour etc and I was even given homeopathy during my last one! They tend to encourage cosleeping and they're very anti medication unless necessary. I'm not even allowed to take ibuprofen when breastfeeding. When I had mastitis I followed the NHS advice and they told me not to!

You can opt for midwifery care during pregnancy here as well but there's a shortage in the area I'm in so I didn't get one. That is less medical I believe.

WolfMother326 · 21/05/2021 12:23

Hello how is everyone feeling?

@lucyrp I feel you on the aches and pains - my body is starting to feel the strain. I'm also waking up every other night at 4am, my body clock seems confused, or its heartburn/stomach problems, or sore hips. But in general I still feel more well than uncomfortable during the daytime.

After lots of back and forth, we decided to splurge on a 3D/4D ultrasound as my hospital was offering it for a reasonable price and I felt it would be safe doing it there (felt nervous about a private clinic with this technology for some reason, even though I went to one previously for normal ultrasound).

The experience was equal parts weird and amazing! It was like looking around underwater or on another planet (my uterus) - but seeing the baby move normally, suck his thumbs and rub his eyes was just incredible and reassuring. Some of the pictures came out pretty creepy due to black spots for eyes etc, but a few were cute and we got to see his little face clearly despite my anterior placenta (which baby was cuddling with).

Also, they told us he's measuring 2.5 lbs (1.16 kg) and is in the 73 growth percentile for 27w2d, I hope that doesn't bode poorly for my GD glucose test next week...

lucyrp · 21/05/2021 14:06

@wimbler I'm actually in work today so no yoga for me 😩 in work for the next 5 days now too and we stay open for an extra hour starting from
Tomorrow which isn't going to be fun as my feet have normally had enough by 12pm anyway 🥺

@Inmypjsagain yeah will definitely mention to her monday, was going to ring and speak to her yesterday but thought it was something that can wait until I see her unless it gets worse of course.

@WolfMother326 I wake at different times in the night at least twice, I have to go to the loo every time I wake now and was woken with some big kicks last night. I woke on my back and they kicked me so hard so they were probs saying mum shift it 😂🤣 lovely pics !

Inmypjsagain · 21/05/2021 20:31

Hmm I no longer get notifications on this thread! 🤔

@BertieBotts Homeopathy in birth! I’m sure some people would like that but 😱 I want the drugs! Really surprised about the ibuprofen, I just find it odd how pregnancy and birth is the same world over but the approach is so different even between different trusts let alone countries!

@WolfMother326 aw look at those photos! He looks like a cutie already! Your pictures look super clear compared some others I’ve seen. Fingers crossed all clear got GD, 73 just sounds good sized to me 😊

@lucyrp well hope no vomit kicks today and you can put your feet up this evening.

So I’ve been pretty lucky that I haven’t felt the constant urge to pee... until now. I definitely feel kicks in the bladder and it like it’s full, but when I pee it’s a few drops or not even a half pee! It doesn’t hurt like cystitis and my urine was checked at the hospital on Wednesday.... so is that just baby’s pressure making me think I need to pee when I don’t? Just trying to figure out if this is normal!

Inmypjsagain · 21/05/2021 20:34

Oh and another maybe gross question! The very top of my bump/underboob, I seemed to have developed a rash... it’s roundish and looks like several areas dry skin. I’m moisturising like mad so I don’t see how it can be dry! It looks a bit like ringworm 😭 but I’ve really inspected it versus google images and I don’t think it is, google also says rashes are common in pregnancy? Is this another weird pregnancy thing? Think I might go to the chemist with a photo tomorrow...

Ready2020 · 21/05/2021 21:09

Sorry to go over old ground but I think from what I've read the majority of you on here have got or will get the covid vaccine? My partner got his first one today and is horrified that I'm still on the fence about getting it while pregnant. He's pulled the 'its my baby too' line which annoyed me more than it should.

I'm all for vaccines but feel hesitant about getting this one while pregnant as while they can say they haven't seen any reason not to I can't help but follow that up in my head with... so far.
