@lucyrp and @Caz1226 aw this makes me jealous that my appointment was over the phone! And you both heard heartbeats! ♥️ I’ve just tried to give my tummy a prod to see what I can make out and I just feel squishiness, but I did get a punch or kick which made me jump. Wonder if as they get bigger if we’ll recognise which parts they are?

BertieBotts · 06/05/2021 16:35

I've never had much luck with differentiating head vs bum, I guess you probably need to be trained for that, but you can definitely tell when they're bigger where one end is. It's just not clear which end it is necessarily!

And if their back is to your front you can normally feel where their back is lying as it's a flattish straight long part.

And sometimes they stick a foot out and that's very clear XD and not that comfortable! But you can play a fun game of poking them back...

BertieBotts · 06/05/2021 16:37

But I can't tell at all where anything is at the moment. Very squishy and movable in there.

Inmypjsagain · 06/05/2021 20:25

Oh I’ll have to have a poke in a few weeks and see if I can identify some limbs! Thinking about it it’s rather odd to think there’s a human growing in there!!!

The thought of seeing a foot weirds me out a little.

We’re off to vote now, fingers crossed no queues!

I was reading out some 25 week facts to my seven year old last night and he was amused to hear baby is now weeing in the womb... I felt a bit queasy 🤣
Inmypjsagain · 06/05/2021 21:19

@Angelesque 😳😳😳😳 why did that not occur to me?!? So, they wee and that wee stays in there with them or.... 🤔 I’m gonna have to google this but I might save it for tomorrow when my stomach is feeling stronger 😂

wimbler · 06/05/2021 21:37

@Inmypjsagain I hate to be the one to tell you but amniotic fluid is basically all baby’s wee by this point 😂 they swallow it and wee it out on repeat

lucyrp · 06/05/2021 21:42

@Caz1226 i think that's where my little one is sat, feet in my cervix which is honestly such a weird feeling 🤢 that's exactly what happened todag my midwife was pushing around and baby kicked a few times! and then when she was listening to their heartbeat they moved away from the doppler as if to say"go away that's too loud" 🤣

@Inmypjsagain fingers crossed you'll see mw soon!

i thought as w second time mum i'd have less appointments but so far i've had 7,16,25 and i've got 28,31,34,36,38,40 and 41 to go🤷🏼‍♀️

Ready2020 · 06/05/2021 21:55

Ah I love my bed. It's the comfiest piece I can be just now. I often just go to bed after dinner with my book or laptop to watch something. My couch is an imitation leather (cats scratch fabric couches 😕) and so not comfy.

I've been hearing the heart beat at my last 3 appointments. Was lovely to hear. OH came to last appointment and heard it too. Got my next scan on 13th May. Its the first of my growth scans.

Daffodil21 · 07/05/2021 09:33

Covid cases in our area have risen so they're now accelerating vaccines for 18+, so it looks like I'll be offered it soon, which I wasn't expecting. So joining the 'should I/shouldn't I' conundrum!!!

OP posts:
wimbler · 07/05/2021 09:46

@Daffodil21 there is an article on the BBC today about pregnant women being offered the vaccine but struggling to get it as they cannot specify which vaccine you will receive on booking. It's recommended that pregnant women receive either the moderna or pfizer jab but most places are offering the astra zeneca one I think.

Daffodil21 · 07/05/2021 10:10

@wimbler thanks for this! Our area is Pfizer so that's a bit of luck. Still on the fence, didn't think I'd be offered it before August tbh. We are now the worst area in Scotland after being the best (except for the islands) for most of the pandemic 🙈

MrsB2019x · 07/05/2021 10:13

@Daffodil21 I asked my midwife about it at my 25 week appt on Wednesday and was still basically told no. She said there’s a lot about it in the media but they haven’t been told by the bosses higher up to start distributing it so they aren’t doing it right now. Think it’s another case of postcode lottery tbh..

Ava50x · 07/05/2021 10:42

Hi all,

Has anyone had their GTT yet?
I've booked in to have mine at 28 weeks, currently just 24. Was wondering how it was and if you had the drink or not?
Will ask my midwife what to expect at my next appt at 26 weeks but would appreciate hearing how it works- i've never had one before.
Thanks!

lucyrp · 07/05/2021 10:42

@Daffodil21 my midwife asked me yesterday if I'd received my vaccine letter as she'd requested for it to be sent or something but I didn't realise. I declined mine as I'm not too keen on having a baby born with one arm or 4 eyes 😬🙈 I was offered the Pfizer but still saying no

BertieBotts · 07/05/2021 11:42

Sorry to go back to the car seat debate again! I have just been watching the demo videos for the new Britax release and it's absolutely gorgeous and ticks every box for me apart from price. But it's no more expensive than any of the other top-end options, so if you're already considering one of those it's well worth a look IMO.

  • Spins on the base
  • Base also takes a spinning toddler seat up to age 4, rear facing or forward facing
  • Flexible angle for baby seat (essential if your car has tilted back seats)
  • Lie flat inner angle adjuster for baby (only on the smaller harness settings)
  • Easy seatbelt fit in case you need to
  • 5 point harness, that isn't necessary but some people prefer
  • Britax (fantastic safety/quality record, all products made in UK or Germany)

It also has lights which I think are a bit of a gimmick/novelty, but do look absolutely lovely in the pictures and will be great for darker evenings over that first Autumn and Winter when babies are going through the phase they hate car seats (typically 3-8 months)

And (big huge unexpected bonus) - it looks like it goes on Maxi Cosi pram adapters so will be compatible with loads, not just the ones that do Britax adapters! Shock Shock

If I won the lottery I'd be replacing our baby seat with this one for sure!

Smurf123 · 07/05/2021 11:56

I've just been told I don't have slapped cheek immunity.. 😫though gp said I also don't have any signs of infection in my blood so will test again in 4 weeks and hopefully it still says no signs of infection.
Not much can be done apparently. Just said to let consultant know. Phoned the hospital and was speaking to a midwife who said no need to worry about telling consultant right away just to tell them at my next appt in 2 weeks. She then asked how many weeks I am and when I said 27weeks she replied "awk you'll be fine then" so I'm assuming that means they aren't too worried about it at this stage.
@Daffodil21im due to get mine on Sunday. Booked for the hospital site which will hopefully mean it's Pfizer - we have no other way of telling over here. They are now saying all under 40 should be offered Pfizer or moderna anyway.
I've been told they are confident vaccine is safer than the potential risk of catching covid in third trimester and that at this point in pregnancy baby is pretty much fully formed and mainly just putting on weight.
Saw a webinar that said the Pfizer one they don't think crosses the placenta as it's out of system pretty quick. It's on the pregnant then screwed fb page if it's any use.

BertieBotts · 07/05/2021 12:22

Ah but that's good there's also no sign of infection. Fingers crossed everything stays clear!

Hi @Ava50x. I had my GTT yesterday at 26 weeks and it was all fine. I had to fast for 12 hours, then it was a blood test, drink, 2 hour wait in the waiting room, blood test. The drink was fine, tasted like a strong tropical squash. You're allowed to drink water during the 2 hour wait. They advised on my letter to bring a snack, which I devoured before driving home! And to take a book or something to distract you whilst waiting (my hospital is rubbish for phone signal).

At my trust, the results get posted to you, so I should hear back next week. If you have any other questions, let me know!!

Whatshouldbemyusername · 07/05/2021 15:09

@Daffodil21 just like @wimbler I asked the MW today and she basically said that she personally doesn't recommend it - but there are mums who want to take it and that's their choice but she believes not enough research done and shouldn't even take it upto 3 months atleast whilst BF.

@Ava50x just like @RunnerGirl123 I had mine this morning. Similar process. Except will find out in 1 working day - which is now Monday. X

Daffodil21 · 07/05/2021 16:05

Thanks all. Ah I thought I was leaning towards taking it but now I'm not so sure!!!

@Whatshouldbemyusername omg what! i was hoping to get it soon after baby was born!

biscuitcat · 07/05/2021 16:26

@Daffodil21 I think different professionals also have massively different views which can make things really tricky! I had the AZ (before they changed the guidance for under 30s and pregnant women) and the man who did mine shared very clearly with me that he thought it was an excellent idea to get it done. Luckily I hadn't been worrying, but I found him very reassuring nonetheless.

I would say I'm feeling better having had it if that's of interest - my area has very low cases indeed and has done for a little while (we rocketed around Christmas/January), but I'm going into work in person a lot more now. I'd be doing that either way as it means I can do the more fun parts of my job, but it's nicer doing it all jabbed up. My social calendar has also filled up a lot until baby is born, and again, from my perspective it feels nice to have the reassurance of the vaccine for while I'm doing that 😊

Daffodil21 · 07/05/2021 16:44

Thanks @biscuitcat - I was just saying to my husband that I guess there'll always be health care professionals who advise for it, and also against it. Just so hard to decide! I wasn't worried about needing the vaccine until recently because cases were low here, but now they're not and my husband can't wfh. Also a bit worried about catching it in hosp as who know what the situation will be like here there, and I'm hopefully having an ELCS so will likely be in for a few days

OP posts:
Whatshouldbemyusername · 07/05/2021 17:00

@biscuitcat @lucyrp @Daffodil21 Ofcourse. End of the day I would say depending on your lifestyle and also what you believe in - just take it. I think just my personal opinion is that I'm going to wait for a while. X
