@RaeRae84 congrats and glad your scan went well!

The list is ace, thanks @Bubbles1st

@D0nut I didn't get a proper nubtech report but posted on the nubtheory Facebook page and they were wrong (don't think my scan picture was the clearest though)

D0nut · 16/04/2021 10:27

@CherylLW I’ll definitely feel weird if I find out it’s a boy too! (Even though I would of course be happy with both) I’m going to try my best to imagine both for the next weeks so I’m less shocked!

@mumof23188 @KHR1 it is so interesting! I was certainly surprised to get as high as 98%. I really didn’t think it was that clear at all.

SP2Bx · 16/04/2021 10:33

Great list @Bubbles1st ! And interesting what you say about some of the surprises turning pink if we're particularly hormonal. I'm 17+2 and STILL being sick 😫 Lots of people think it's a boy (based on erm... nothing!) and I just get this feeling of "I'm not so sure". Not sure if that's because I think it's a girl or maybe I'm subconsciously hoping for a girl even though I know I'd be happy with either!

Welcome @D0nut and good luck today @CherylLW! ❤️

Bubbles1st · 16/04/2021 11:12

I will add any extras and update the list after a few days after people have had the chance to catch up.

Yesterday afternoon I abruptly started suffering with what I assume is carpal tunnel.

I was Googling symptoms as I know it's common among dog groomers, which I am. What I didn't realise is how common it is in pregnancy on its own.

Has anyone else ever had CTS and specifically during pregnancy? I'm hoping it goes as quickly as it comes but I have a feeling I won't be that lucky. I might call the gp Monday if it does stick around, mainly just to have it noted when it started for future rather than have to say how long I've had it. Hoping it sticks to just my right hand and is cts as apparently it can be misdiagnosed in the beginning and actually can be pre eclampsia which I am praying I never get!

MrsTD88 · 16/04/2021 11:26

@DOnut congratulations, our due dates are close, mine is 27th. That's a shame they are not doing 16 week appointments where you are, I've just come back from mine. Got to hear the heartbeat which was lovely.

I haven't used Nub Tech yet but have a gender scan next Saturday so may give it a go.

Jay3004 · 16/04/2021 12:43

Welcome @D0nut. Nubtech said 85% girl for me and it was very much a boy at my scan 😂 No 16 week appointment for me either so just looking forward to my next scan.

FTEngineerM · 16/04/2021 12:48

I did in my last pregnancy @Bubbles1st because I do a lot of mouse moving/typing, essentially all day. It hasn’t happened this time yet though 🙌🏽 Probably because I haven’t actually done much work lately. Start back next week properly though so I’ll keep you posted. My sciatica has gone now, maybe because the baby is up and out of pelvis woohoo. Is yours better to?

Geegee20 · 16/04/2021 12:51

Hey ladies!
As anyone breastfed before or planning on with there new babies?
I really want to this time but never done it with my other 3 children, do you gave any pros / cons or any advice for me I dnt no anyone that breastfed well that I will remember did so it's all new to me. Any advise or tops would be appreciated!! Hope you all keeping well xx

FTEngineerM · 16/04/2021 13:14

Yeah @Geegee20 switch from BF to FF at 7.5m he’s 10m now (today yay):

BF pros (for me) - always available, free (how bloody expensive is formula😬), easily accessible just find somewhere to sit, nothing to carry around, lots of more time sat cuddling/chilling with DC in early days (this may turn into a con now it’s DC2), oxytocin when sometimes shit I needed that 😂, nutritionally complex it adapted based on what DC needed so as they get older they don’t drink more volume but it becomes more calorific - super cool.

BF cons (for me) - lots more feeds per day, lots more night wakings, touched out, only me could do it, some people get REALLY awkward whilst you flop a tit out and frantically try not to make eye contact, hurt like hell for first fortnight but shields and lanolin saved me, I was incredibly shocked at how often theyd feed on earth days of ‘cluster feeding’ a few hours attached to the breast every evening isn’t unusual, people would often comment on how ‘my milk obviously isn’t filling him/he doesn’t need breast again/just Chuck a dummy in’ i found that wearing.

I am loathing the faff that is bottle feeding in comparison, I didn’t appreciate that aspect enough at the time. Now my changing bag is enormous.

I’ll 100% be trying to BF again for the first 6m at least but I probably will switch as we introduce solids, slightly earlier than I did this time. There’s definitely a lot of pressure from Kelly mom and the likes about ‘responding to your baby’s needs and always just offering breast’ which is fine on paper but no you don’t have to feed them every time they wake at night for what fees like the rest of their lives 😂and the world doesn’t cave in. I wish wish wish I night weaned earlier, on the Facebook groups about breastfeeding/peer support groups it’s almost like a boasting badge how many times did you wake last night, as if it’s the best thing ever. In reality not many can live like that, I certainly couldn’t, it’s fine to night wean from about 5-6m if you want to.

mumof23188 · 16/04/2021 13:29

@Geegee20 I breastfed my last baby and I am planning on breastfeeding again. I breastfed my last until 8 months then he went onto special formula as he had a milk allergy. Hoping this little one doesn’t but if he does I will go dairy free too. @FTEngineerM has said exactly what I would say on the pros and cons. I just love the bonding experience and how it’s free. It’s a lot of hard work in the beginning whilst you get the feeding established but then it’s so easy to just whip your boob out as and when needed.

Bubbles1st · 16/04/2021 13:59

@FTEngineerM how long did it last? Did you have any treatment / wear any support?

My sciatica also is much better, thank goodness 😅

FTEngineerM · 16/04/2021 14:13

I remember it getting progressively worse at least until I stopped working (36 weeks) I can’t pinpoint in my memory when it stopped though 🤔 that along with restless legs the guys in the office thought I’d lost it.

Geegee20 · 16/04/2021 14:24

@FTEngineerM @mumof23188 thanks so much for your replys, I suppose all you can do is try, I just feel abit nervous incase he doesnt get enough and things like that, and especially in public, thats what always put me off doing it before. But am sure my midwife will give me some advice aswell, and I've joined a few groups on Facebook xxx

FTEngineerM · 16/04/2021 14:28

@Geegee20 yeah give it a bash, formula is always there; nappy output is a good indicator for ‘are they getting enough’. I found no problems with people out and about, it was family/friends that were awks 🤭. I think @Poppins2016 is still BFing after a few years so probably got loads lore advice 😀.

Noodles4Me · 16/04/2021 14:39

I'll give BF a go but I'm not going to let either me or baby get distressed if there's a struggle...I'll make sure he is fed first and foremost. I know I'll be more comfortable trying it when I'm home and feel settled and my sis-in-law is on hand to advise.

Sophieandtiger · 16/04/2021 15:17

@Geegee20 I agree with everything @FTEngineerM said. The biggest pro was for nightfeeds, I only had to be awake for a few mins (DD was a fast eater), I can't even imagine having had to go downstairs, boil a kettle etc and would have found it difficult to get back to sleep afterwards. With BF I could just do it half asleep and not have to leave my bed.

The biggest con was not being able to be away from baby for too long, I found that responsibility a bit overwhelming. I once cancelled a hair appointment last minute as I was convinced she would starve if I left her more than an hour Grin

Hoping to BF this time again but would try to introduce an occasional bottle sooner. I never did and ended up with a total bottle refuser so breastfed until she was 1 in the end (would probably have liked to stop around 6 months otherwise).

I thought I would dread feeding in public but you can get tops and scarves etc that hide things a bit until you get more confident, and I found that I soon didn't care.

All the best with whatever you choose :)

Geegee20 · 16/04/2021 16:06

@Sophieandtiger
Thank you. Yeh I know what you mean about not being able to be away from baby for long, I also feel abit mean on my partner as thisnis his first, but he has said its up to me if I wnna bf, and yeh hopefully I will feel ok I public. I suppose its natural and normal to bf that's what there for hahah xx

CherylLW · 16/04/2021 16:27

Scan all went perfectly today and he’s still a boy 💙 I can relax for a tiny bit now! He was being a pickle and laying the wrong way a lot but we got there eventually 💙

It’s quite nerve wracking as they do such an intensive check of the baby so it’s a lot of waiting to hear it’s all ok whilst she’s checking.

I also had my whooping cough vaccine whilst I was there.

FTEngineerM · 16/04/2021 16:41

That’s a relief @CherylLW glad it all went well.

AdventuresAwait · 16/04/2021 16:54

@CherylLW, glad it all went well. Great news xx

CherylLW · 16/04/2021 17:00

Thanks lovelies 😊 @AdventuresAwait @FTEngineerM. Now for the 5 week wait for my midwife appointment xx

Sophieandtiger · 16/04/2021 17:01

Great news @CherylLW! I have seen a few people mentioning having the whooping cough after the scan, were you told this would happen? Just wondering if I can expect to have it then or need to make an appointment. Totally forgot to ask the midwife at the 16 week scan and she never mentioned anything

CherylLW · 16/04/2021 17:04

@Sophieandtiger thank you ❤️. I was told at my 16 week appointment that they would offer me the whooping cough vaccine at my 20 week scan. There was someone there just doing them. Maybe see if they do it at your scan but if not contact the doctor. They told me today that the doctor may contact me too but it’s already done 😊

Bubbles1st · 16/04/2021 17:33

So ladies I had a telephone appointment with the anaesthetist this afternoon and I was really surprised that he straight off the bat I suggested that I have an epidural as soon as possible once labour has established.
I always kind of thought they like this as a last resort well that’s what I believe from watching one born every minute. Mostly I’m okay having an epidural in itself if I want one at the time however it does automatically rule out water birth or even any type of birth in the midwife led unit if I agree to it automatically.

To me it feels really early to even really be discussing this so see what the midwife says at 25 weeks but has anyone had this advice before?

I'm not too keen on having a catheter and waiting to regain use of my legs but is that enough reason alone to rule it out as main preference.

Also bearing in mind, due to blood thinners I can only have one if 12 hours have passed since last injection.

I know this is a ramble but anyone else ever had their birth plan be recommended before you've even given it much thought yourself?

bewitchingnight · 16/04/2021 17:35

Great news on your scans @CherylLW and @RaeRae84

Thanks for making the list @Bubbles1st it's great!

I'm keen to give breastfeeding a go too (first baby) so reading all the pros and cons was really helpful, thanks ladies
