@SP2Bx
I'm super up for hypno birthing. I know it's early but I want to remain calm and confident and about the birth and I think with the manifesting I'm doing and then with hypno birthing it's a good Combination to prepare.

I'm not naive and don't think I can avoid pain or complications by this but I am also very open minded that a calm and stress free labour is an easier one and I'm sold on that!

SP2Bx · 16/03/2021 20:18

That's sort of my view @Bubbles1st - I've heard really good things from a real mix of people! But my understanding is it just teaches you to remain calm, be confident in your body and making your own decisions and remaining in control even if/when everything around you sees to be going mental! I think I'll definitely give it a go..

KH512 · 16/03/2021 20:29

@mumof23188 sadly 16 weeks appointment around here are over the phone, so don't get to hear the heartbeat either :( already had mine (a week early, lasted about 15 minutes!)

@Mamabearwhere my hair has been falling out in crazy amounts! Keep having to unclog the drain...I thought hair was supposed to fall out after!

@SP2Bx Don't know anything about hypnobirthing....anywhere you recommend to read about it?

mumof23188 · 16/03/2021 20:32

@Kirky658 I know, I was gutted about it when I was pregnant with my son. I got to listen to my DDs at every appointment but that was 9 years ago. I’m in Lincolnshire!

Anybody having to have growth scans? I’ve also been prescribed 150mg of aspirin daily to give a good blood flow to the placenta as I have small babies!

mumof23188 · 16/03/2021 20:34

@KH512 it’s crazy how every trust does things differently. Sorry you didn’t get to listen to babies heartbeat 😩. Hopefully you get to at your next midwife appointment!

Poppins2016 · 16/03/2021 20:36

@Bubbles1st @SP2Bx

I did hypnobirthing with my first baby and found it really helped. I did an NHS course via my local hospital and found it was a really good balance of science and relaxation exercises (which were also part of the science but it didn't feel like it!). I didn't have a pain free experience (I'm convinced people are lying when they say that... 🤣) but I did feel as relaxed as possible and the experience of giving birth felt manageable. I also had a water birth, which I highly recommend if you're open to the idea!

I'm going to do a refresher course at some point during this pregnancy. 🙂

Poppins2016 · 16/03/2021 20:38

@mumof23188

Snap! My DS was a low birth weight despite being overdue, so I'm also on 150 mg aspirin and having growth scans.

Squibble84 · 16/03/2021 20:41

I’d like to give hypnobirthing another go - I tried but didn’t really commit to it last time.

@mumof23188 I don’t think I have to have growth scans but I’m also on a daily aspirin for low Papp-a 75mg

Bubbles1st · 16/03/2021 20:41

@Poppins2016 I'm really open to a water birth a good friend of mine had two and I think it would suit me. However I have a high bmi and not sure if the option will be available to me. Also not sure if I would end up disappointed if something happened which meant I couldn't have one and therefore better off not going for it.

@mumof23188 me too, whereabouts in Lincolnshire?

Bubbles1st · 16/03/2021 20:43

@mumof23188 also yes to the growth scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks due to bmi. I'm on daily aspirin too and will need blood thinner injections daily from 28 weeks 😫

Poppins2016 · 16/03/2021 20:46

@Kirky658 I don't think you're being naive! I don't own a single baby book and my DS is 2.5, I relied/rely on the NHS website, Google (as long as the source is trustworthy), instinct and calling my mother! You're also given loads of leaflets at crucial stages by the hospital/midwives/health visitors (not that all of them necessarily get used...).

Poppins2016 · 16/03/2021 20:51

@Bubbles1st it may still be an option, I know there's a consultant led room with a pool at my local hospital so it might be worth investigating. But I know what you mean about wanting to avoid disappointment... I guess you could always plan as though you won't have a water birth, but keep your mind open to going for it on the day if it's available/an option for you?

...I'm desperate to have another water birth and keep having to remind myself that it may not be an option if all the rooms are in use. Eek.

SP2Bx · 16/03/2021 21:00

I love the idea of a water birth and will go for one if the option is available to me but I don't want to set my heart on it!

@KH512 I first heard of it from people on Instagram (hardly credible sources lol although one influencer was a midwife herself!) and then recently more and more people I actually know in real life seem to be raving about it. I asked one of them about it as didn't have her down as the "hippyish" type (for want of a better word), and she really sold it to me! She's not local to me though so I guess half the battle will be finding a course that isn't too preachy that I get on with! Guess I'll start with Google!

crobo87 · 16/03/2021 23:06

@Kirky658

My midwife said the 16 week appt is an opportunity to listen to the heartbeat, another urine sample, blood pressure and general check up. Interesting they don't listen to the heartbeat in your trust *@mumof23188*! Where in the UK are you?

I have literally one baby book that got given to me. Pregnancy week by week. I don't think I'm going to go down the route of books. I might be being naive, but I want to try and work things out myself & use my families' experiences too... Might all end in tears mind! 😂

My midwife told me they don't routinely listen to the heartbeat here either at 16 weeks xx

I've been advised I need extra scans and aspirin but because my BMI is 0.3 over the threshold 🙈🙈

I'm also in Lincolnshire & midwife told me the same about the 16 week appointment x

FTEngineerM · 17/03/2021 07:52

@SP2Bx I’d definitely do hypnobirthing some things you have no control over, but, being calm and being able to relay what you want/are feeling is only a good thing!

I’d watched videos last time but my classes were cancelled due to Covid.

@Kirky658 not a bad plan, I filled my brain with so much stuff on the internet last time that I was a bit of a stress head over nothing. I did like the wonderweeks book though that helped me understand what our DC was/is going through babe you read that @CherylLW ? About leaps and stuff.

@Bubbles1st check with your chosen hospital, my BMi was 35 last time and hopped straight in. I only got out because it started going wrong, was sooooo much nicer in the tub.

@mumof23188 glad they’re looking after you early on though, how small was your last baby?

@crobo87 0.3?! You could have had a big pee and not been over🤦🏽‍♀️

bluemagicalsky · 17/03/2021 08:06

@FTEngineerM ohhh I love the sound of the wonderweeks. I'm going to order this as my third and final book

I'm definitely going to do hypnobirthing. I've heard nothing but great things about it. I think you need to just jump in with both feet for it.

I'd also love a water birth. My hospital only has 2 tubs, and I understand that September is the busiest month to give birth, so won't be getting my hopes up for it

Kirky658 · 17/03/2021 08:15

@ftengineerm that is what I'm worried about, I'm a nightmare Googler and I know if I got too many books it would overwhelm me. I've seen one recommended by mumsnet called first time parent that DH is keen to get so we may get that one.

@bluemagicalsky same here with the birthing pool. Think I'll deffo have bub in hospital though rather than at home. We don't live that close to the hospital circa 25 mins so I'd rather be safer.

FTEngineerM · 17/03/2021 08:20

It’s totally worth it @bluemagicalsky I can’t remember the week but it was a few weeks old and I was so tired because he just wanted to be cuddled by me every second of the day ‘why oh why can’t I take a shit in peace’ and then that book said they’re scared of their new world and need us for comfort. He learnt to see close things or something, I was mortified and cuddled him non stop then 😂.

Yeah all depends on so many different things keep an open mind.

unicornpower · 17/03/2021 08:28

My midwife said they listen to the heartbeat at the 16 week appt so I hope they do, Its the only thing stopping me booking another scan!

Oh gosh I feel behind with birth options, I'd like a water birth but depends on availability, the midwife birth centre has a pool in each room but just depends if you needed to get transferred to the labour ward if anything starts going wrong! I'm trying not to think about a plan as I'll get wound up if it doesn't go to plan Confused

CherylLW · 17/03/2021 08:43

Thanks for those with book suggestions, I think it’s just having something to look through as there is so much unknown.

@AdventuresAwait just books mainly about birth, when you bring your baby home really. I’ve seen a few books that give you the honest truth about things, books from real mums.

I’ll have a browse

FTEngineerM · 17/03/2021 08:56

@CherylLW from real mums sounds like a good idea! Let me know if you find one.

FTEngineerM · 17/03/2021 08:58

@unicornpower I think the plan is mainly to get you thinking of things you definitely do not want, pain relief for example there maybe things you really don’t want so can put that down and it won’t be offered. Nobody knows how it’s going to pan out. I’m a little anxious already I must admit.

CherylLW · 17/03/2021 09:14

@FTEngineerM I’ll be searching for some online. Someone on here (sorry can’t remember who) said about ‘the modern midwife’ abs a few people have recommended that.

I’ll let you know if I find any.

Also to who was asking about maternity leggings... I got mine from ASOS and they are so soft and comfy! Mine are over bump but they had a variety of under bump too x

AdventuresAwait · 17/03/2021 09:16

@CherylLW, I have a few books. My 2 favourites are:

How to grow a baby by Clemmie Hooper

The modern midwife guide to pregnancy, birth and beyond by Marie Louise
