Overwhelmed here too - too many things to buy!

Did a superdrug order of nappies and creams and milton... but the milton seemingly exploded in the post which I'm really annoyed about! I'm assuming that given it's baby safe/ food safe I shouldn't be too concerned that I got loads of it on my skin as a result?! Never used the stuff before as this will be my first but conscious it's basically bleach and that I would have worn gloves if I was knowingly using it!

Aj1400 · 25/03/2021 21:41

Not so much overwhelmed with what to buy, but in all the decisions - and I've no idea how I'll feel.

More what life will be like later in pregnancy, and then with a baby.
I've just had to submit dates for mat leave etc - I'm cutting it close to my DD but I'm keeping 2 weeks of holiday in reserve to take before my mat leave.

We also have less decisions in terms of baby stuff- the house we're currently renting doesn't have space for an office and a baby room, and we need the office to WFH so baby will be in our room - meaning minimal stuff and space saving cribs etc.

Hoping to buy somewhere before DC is 6 months old tho as nearly ready to apply for a mortgage. (we had hoped to do this before getting pregnant but hey ho)

BertiesMangos · 25/03/2021 21:57

@Aj1400 I think it's even harder to know what things will be like because of COVID - so difficult to know what types of things will stay and what won't! We're currently using what will be baby's room as my husband's office, and it has one of those folding desks drilled into the wall - can't decide whether or not to remove it. Firstly can't work out if it's safe to keep it there (nope I don't trust my husband's DIY skills) and secondly don't know how much longer he will be WFH.

Mummy2O · 25/03/2021 23:09

I'm using our nursery to be as an office too at the moment. It looks like working from home may become a long term thing for me. I have no idea where I will end up working from after mat leave. Confused

Anyone else still struggling with managing to sleep on their side? I've bought so many pillows and I still can't do it, I just kick them off and roll onto my back before I'm even asleep Sad

ElderMillennial · 26/03/2021 09:38

@PurpleCurtain I manage to stay on my side and haven't rolled onto my back (which might be partly because of the pillow I have) but I do get uncomfortable as I get restless legs and cramps so sometimes have to switch sides. I also have PGP so switching from one side to the other is painful and I have my legs either side of my pillow so it's a bit of mission when I do want to turn!

I find being on my side but leaning forward slightly helps so that my bottom leg or hip is less likely to hurt.

Do you use your pillow between your legs or behind your back? Trying to work out what's more likely to help! I'm hoping that I've fixed this by 3rd trimester as I think that's when the studies around the risks of back sleeping focus on!

ElderMillennial · 26/03/2021 10:13

Mine is like a C shape so I sleep with the long bit at the front and one end curves through my legs and up to my back and the other end I either put my head on or just sort of keep in front of me. Not sure if that makes sense?!

A bit like in this pic I just found online except I see that I seem to be using it the opposite way around to everyone else! Saying that, if I turn, I don't turn the pillow so I must use it both ways...

Hi everyone, thought i'd intro myself properly... I'm due on July 25th with my second, a girl! I have a little boy already so am super excited to have both.

Just wondering is there a Facebook group yet for July babies? I find Facebook easier to keep up with than MN threads which move so fast!

Warrickdaviesasplates · 26/03/2021 17:17

@TedLife yay! You're my due date twin!

FemaleLady · 26/03/2021 19:44

anyone experiencing heartburn?? mine is so constant um starting to fear food at the moment. but then again i need food.. its like my chest is on fire. the burps.. oh my god the burps. they are awful... its like um burping acid. i have been staying away from spicy food but it seems to not work. any remedies?

ElderMillennial · 26/03/2021 19:54

You can take Gaviscon or Rennie

FemaleLady · 26/03/2021 19:57

@ElderMillennial thank you

Peaplant20 · 26/03/2021 20:29

@FemaleLady me too!!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 26/03/2021 20:52

Gaviscon and rennies here too

Believe the gp can also prescribe tablets

isadorapolly · 27/03/2021 11:10

@FemaleLady me too! I drink a lot of cold milk! Seems to help for a while. I can’t stomach gaviscon liquid or the chewable tablets but I think there’s others. Also lying propped up slightly with pregnancy pillow seems to help.

FemaleLady · 27/03/2021 13:00

@isadorapolly i am trying Gaviscon today. sleeping has been unbearable... keep sitting up during the night coz the heartburn would go all the way to my throat.. il also try lying propped up lightly, thank you for that. i cant stomach milk, even the smell of it sends me straight to throw up hour

CC81 · 27/03/2021 21:40

For anyone with bad acid reflux and heartburn, ask your midwife to request an omeprazole prescription from the GP. I couldn't manage without it! I only have the problem when pregnant - and the medication makes it (mostly) vanish 👍

PurpleCurtain · 28/03/2021 11:45

Thankfully not had heartburn, but have been feeling awful recently, worse than at the peak of my morning sickness. In my head I've correlated it with eating sugary foods - so for instance, my weekends seem to be a write-off and I usually start them with croissants and jam/ pancakes and syrup and then feel exhausted and nauseous and weak for several hours. Whereas on weekdays I have bran flakes or plain porridge for breakfast and feel mostly okay. Today I had bran flakes but I stupidly had a couple of biscuits with my cuppa a few minutes ago and now I've had to go to bed and on the verge of throwing up. Is this a standard pregnancy thing (I admit, whilst I have a healthy BMI, I was a sugar/ carbs fiend pre pregnancy!) or should I be worried that it's a warning sign of GD etc?

Mummy2O · 28/03/2021 11:50

@CC81 I am on that too. It is a lifesaver!

isadorapolly · 28/03/2021 12:05

@CC81 I haven’t heard of that, thankyou, sometimes I forget you can get medication for things, I remember with my 6th baby I had absolutely awful sickness every single day of the pregnancy, and when I was in labour the midwife said I should’ve been given something for it, it hadn’t even occurred to me to ask! Then she gave me an injection so I wasnt sick during labour and it worked instantly! Good old modern medicine eh 🤣

Mummy2O · 28/03/2021 15:43

@isadorapolly I have had not to silent reflux from day one of this pregnancy, which has progressively got worse. Thankfully, the Omeprazole has kept it at bay. It is in tablet form so no fuss. I also have a bottle of Peptac (like Gavascon but cheaper) just incase I have a poor eating day that sets me off in the evening. I had none of this with my first pregnancy. I really was lulled into a false sense of security.

PurpleCurtain · 28/03/2021 15:57

Sounds like I'm lucky with the lack of heartburn... sorry to hear people are struggling and hope you find your cure!

Kowhai13 · 28/03/2021 16:20

Im 23 weeks and while I get the odd kick I can feel on my tummy, often I get a weird feeling below the baby like she is kicking or pushing up against my bladder or something internal around there. Often makes me jump and feels pretty weird. Does anyone else get this?

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 29/03/2021 11:44

@Kowhai13 I get that feeling too sometimes it’s really weird isn’t it!

I have another midwife appointment tomorrow :) hopefully I will get my MATB1 form as I’ve still not got it and have to show my employer it by Wednesday as I’ll be 25 weeks then. Is anyone else still waiting on theirs?

My midwife was just like oh I forgot to print it last time I’ll get you it next time - so I didn’t get my free dentist appointment either as I didn’t have my form 🙈
