I've had the vaccine and will carry on with outdoor only until after my second dose as it's just not worth the risk to me, especially with the new variants being more transmissible.

If you haven't seen my earlier post, I also recommend you watch the recording of the live Q&A webinar from April by the RCOG and Pregnant then Screwed. All the panel recommended getting the vaccine. The MP who arranged it is Stella Creasy and she was going to upload it to her Facebook after.

@Flittingaboutagain can i ask if you had any side affects to your first jab?

I had my first jab yesterday I'm 29 weeks, with high blood pressure and gestational diabetes. It was the Pfizer one. I expected to feel like rubbish today, my arm is sore but so far that's about it. The whooping cough vaccine gave me more pain was ill for two days after that.

Hi, hope you don't mind me jumping in. I am due July and had to speak to my Dr last week about anemia. Whilst in the phone I asked his views on the vaccine and he recommended it and said he was able to prioritise me on booking a Pfizer appointment which I got on Friday! No symptoms but a sore arm so have been lucky I think! Can't get 2nd does until after I'm due online so going to call and see if he can book me sooner on Monday. I'm only 27 so no reason to be prioritised. If anyone does want it maybe try call the GP even if they can add you to a last minute list for no shows.

I think I’m going to wait for my jab now until after the baby is here - I’m 33 so in my area I’ve not been asked to have it yet - so I’m thinking by the time it’s my turn I’ll be due to have the baby anyway so I may as well wait until he/she is here.

I’m not letting myself get too stressed about the virus - I’m just trying to use a common sense approach with it all - the issue is regardless of people coming into your home everyone has potential to get it just through bad luck unless you’re whole household is fully staying indoors at all times. I’m working from home but my partner has to go into work as he can’t do his job from home so I’m already exposed at that point....just ensuring I do what I can to avoid getting it hand washing and the like - but I’m looking forward to seeing people indoors again - we have a meal booked in for next weekend - just want to do a few things just us before the baby arrives and life changes forever! Xx

I have my 1st jab booked for the 1st June. I had a letter inviting me to have it a couple of weeks ago, about 2 weeks after the guidance on preggo people getting jabs changed. I rang the booking line to double check it is the Pfizer one and ended up having a bit of a row with the woman on the phone who told me I couldn't have it. She then tried to book me in the day after my due date in July. When I suggested I may be a bit busy then, she tried to book me in the week before. I asked when the earliest she could do was (1st June). She really didn't want me to have it when pregnant. In the end she booked me in because I insisted, but told me I'd need a letter from my GP. I emailed my GP who rang me the following day, really confused as to why he was being asked for a letter. He hadn't been asked for this for anyone else before. He strongly advised I have it and sent me an email to show as proof, but very much doubts I will need it. It was so weird!

We are only meeting people outside. I have been to the shops a few times, but always try to go when it will likely be quiet.

A few friends are starting to try and organise get togethers now. I feel like I am being awkward suggesting outside things only.

@ElderMillennial I’m the same as you.... outdoor meet ups only. Husband thinks it’s fine to go to the pub and is generally not as anxious as me about it so we’ve found it quite difficult as we don’t agree. I’m as cautious as possible, not been to any pubs, been to Superdrug once as I needed something urgently but not been to any other shops and I’m wfh. DH occasionally pops to the corner shop if we need bits but other than that we do online shopping. He goes into work in london about once a week which makes me really nervous but it’s unavoidable. We obviously wear masks, wash hands and we also do lateral flow tests twice a week x

Its so hard to work out what I'm comfortable with, and I think some of it almost depends on who I'm meeting. I've got friends who are so relaxed about meeting multiple people I think ill be more cautious with only meeting them outside, whereas some of my family are hardly meeting anyone so ill feel comfortable sat inside with them. Although the new variant is making me nervous. We've also got lateral flow tests and I'm encouraging my husband to do them - my worst fear at the moment is him testing positive and not being allowed to be at the birth Confused

Approaching 33 weeks now, ill probably be invited for vaccine just before my due date and I think I'll try and book for around then!

It sounds like most of you are similar to my way of thinking and it's interesting to know you have a similar difference of thinking to your DH @Peaplant20 We both WFH. DH wants to start going back into the office but I'd like him to wait until either baby is here or we both have the vaccine.

It is good to know some of you have had the vaccine and not had side effects.

I also found the whooping cough jab really painful for days after!

I’m still quite worried about seeing people but will see family outdoors. I’m getting vaccinated this evening but feeling quite anxious about it. Has anyone else has the Moderna jab? Mostly everyone I know has had pfizer.

Hey all slightly off topic but I’ve been to get some stuff for my hospital bag and went to boot the disposal underwear was £14.99 for 8 pairs which I thought was pretty expensive anyway I then went good shopping after to Aldi and the exact same things were £3.99 so just a heads up if anyone still has to buy these things - shop around! I own a couple of shops (florist) so have been working since the first lockdown, opening when we’ve been allowed but doing delivery and click and collect when we haven’t, so I haven’t been stuck indoors as much as other people seem to be.

We are in a childcare bubble with my in laws for when I’m working but apart from them we don’t see anyone socially.

We’ve just been following the rules really, I’d love to go to a pub or restaurant but I dont feel there’s much point when I can’t drink! And I’m not taking 7 kids to sit outside a restaurant on a rainy day Grin

@Foxglovesandlilacs I can't blame you! I get stressed taking my 2 to a restaurant or pub and end up rushing my food so we can get out before anyone causes trouble. Can't even imagine coping with 7!

I'm unsure about the jab, I think I'll just wait until after the baby is born. I'm 30 weeks today and with no underlying conditions, no job to take me out of the house I think I'll be ok without it for a while. Also I'm 30 so doubt I'll be getting offered it that much before the baby comes anyway.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 16/05/2021 13:21

Without wanting to worry anyone it was something i read about how at some point 10% of patients in ICU with covid were ladies in their third trimester (many of who had no underlying conditons) which made up my mind about the jab.

Anyway, i am only 33 so probably won't get offered before due date! But as i said i will ask the mw when i see her next.

Just a dead arm for 24 hours so I couldn't put on a bra myself! Otherwise fine.

Yes similarly I don't want to worry anyone so suggest you do your research from the experts not the internet, so you can make an informed opinion on the science and which risk/benefit is more important to you.

For those who are thinking of hospital bags, what kind of size are you going for? I'm planning a home birth but have been told to still pack one. I'm a bit of an over packer generally!

I have my midwife appointment on Tuesday so might have a chat with her and see what she suggests regarding the vaccine....I 100% want it just thought it might be best waiting until the baby is here as I’m worried if it’s not been tested enough on pregnant woman I’d be stressed for any side effects for the baby....but then the ICU stats are concerning....it’s a difficult one I’ll see what she advises on Tuesday

Just placemarking and hoping to catch the new thread as I see this one is almost full.

I'm 30 weeks (due with my second). I'm slowly packing my hospital bag. Just need flip flops for the shower and that's it.

Me and DH still haven't decided where DC1 will go when it all kicks off. That's the one thing that's stressing me out. Other than that, I can't wait until the big day and being able to lie on my belly, like a PP has mentioned!

Report

@Flittingaboutagain I have always taken a cabin suitcase for me and change bag for the babies stuff. I’m having a home birth too but will have one ready just in case. My 5th baby was supposed to be a home birth but when I rang they told me to go in as there weren’t enough midwives! So always best to be prepared.

Thanks ladies. I was debating a case or a hold all type bag.
