It might say on your letter whether to take a urine sample. It's different everywhere. If it doesn't say then you probably don't need to or can do one when you're there. I don't think you usually have bloods at the 20 week scan.

Alicespring · 17/03/2021 08:50

@Mrslouu My 20 week scan was only a scan, no bloods or urine but I have a midwife appt next week for that. I'm in Glasgow though so not sure if it's different everywhere

Mrslouu · 17/03/2021 08:55

@ElderMillennial @Alicespring thank you. The letter doesn’t mention it and I did recently have a midwife appointment.

Kowhai13 · 17/03/2021 09:28

Found out at yesterdays scan we are having a girl! So happy she appears healthy and normal.
I wanted a girl a little bit more but its funny when I found out I realised I was just so relieved she is normal that I wouldn't have minded!
In fact I found myself feeling a tinsy bit sad not to be having a boy as we had some boy names and I sometimes imagined myself with one. Funny the emotions you go through!

isadorapolly · 17/03/2021 10:05

Kowhai congratulations that’s lovely 😊 Flowers

lilroo87 · 17/03/2021 11:01

@Kowhai13 congratulations.
I found out Monday that we're having a girl and I know exactly how you feel. I thought we would have a joy so I'd been focusing on boys clothes and things so it's so odd that now she's a girl. Although I'm really happy as boys run in my partners family so was concur probably not ever get a girl 😂

PeanutButterFalcon · 18/03/2021 13:36

I still can’t bring myself to buy anything and now I’m panicking that we have nothing. After reading on another post people have started packing their hospital bags at 30 weeks which seems scarily close I feel like I should be more organised!

OP posts:
THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 18/03/2021 13:59

@PeanutButterFalcon 30 weeks is early, don't think i have ever been that organised, 36 should do lol

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 18/03/2021 14:18

Oh god! Hospital bags at 30 weeks! I haven’t even started thinking about that yet! We’re not starting the baby’s room for another couple of weeks and don’t want to get loads of stuff before then as I’d prefer to get the room done and furniture built so then I can put things away! Although my baby swing (nuna leaf grow) has arrived today can’t wait to finish work and open it up!

Warrickdaviesasplates · 18/03/2021 14:48

I do feel very behind with buying stuff. It seems like almost everyone on my social media is having a baby in July/August and they all seem to have been shopping like crazy!

I have not got a single thing. Although we haven't taken down DS's cot yet so I'm just going to leave that up in our room for this baby.

Because the baby will have to share with DS we aren't going to sort out rooms until the baby is here as we will be swapping all the kids rooms around.

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 18/03/2021 15:37

I have no idea how people are shopping so much - like there are somethings that you can order online but some items I need to physically see first - and I’m terrible for not sending things back so I don’t want to order online and have to send things back so I’m just waiting it out! Xx

Sweetpea12 · 18/03/2021 15:43

I’ve got in clothes, play mat, steriliser but need my bigger things like a pram and next to me so stressed out not having those. How a pram shop isn’t essential I don’t know! I know I have time but also don’t want the hassle of shopping closer to giving birth when I’ll be tired and won’t want to 😆

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 18/03/2021 16:25

I have been using my new pram with our 1 year old and am happy with it (as a single obv havent used as a double yet)!

PeanutButterFalcon · 18/03/2021 16:25

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE thank goodness. Feeling more reassured I’m not so behind now. Its coming around so quickly.

@TiredAlreadyOhDear we’ve been waiting to by the nursery bits for the same reason. I don’t just want a mountain of things. Hope the baby swing is ok. I’ve been looking at some (been looking at everything) and can’t decide on any.

@Warrickdaviesasplates everyone I know who is pregnant seems to be ready and I’m due first with nothing! It puts the pressure on doesn’t it.

OP posts:
THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 18/03/2021 17:10

@Warrickdaviesasplates we are also needing to move all the dc rooms around! Baby will be in with us until sleeps through and then go in with the currently 1 and 4 year olds!

So far i have bought 8 bottles as cheap in Aldi, pram and changing bag

I still need to dig out all the baby clothes and work out what is sensible to buy

Luckyelephant1 · 18/03/2021 17:54

Well I started buying a few bits last weekend as I was getting panicky, but they have all already arrived and are just sat cluttering up my small house now! So I'm going to try and ignore all these people who seem to have bought everything already and do my own thing. Apart from pram/car seat I think I have decided on everything else 'big' such as bedside crib etc so will just wait till closer to the time to order. I feel I should maybe start buying the smaller things instead like clothes, nappies, toiletries etc.

FirstTimeMummy2021 · 18/03/2021 19:12

I also haven't started buying anything yet! We are hoping to buy the pram once shops open in April as I just don't feel comfortable buying it online without ever having pushed it.
My bump feels sore and tender this evening. Its not painful as such, but its not comfortable! Is this my skin/muscles stretching again?

Warrickdaviesasplates · 18/03/2021 19:21

@PeanutButterFalcon it definitely is putting the pressure on! I do feel like I might have bought a couple of bits of the shops had been open but with lockdown it's felt like... I might as well just wait.

I'm reassuring myself that most of the people I know are having their first baby and did big social media announcements so are maybe just more excited than me with my 3rd (and my dislike of announcing anything on social media)

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE We only managed to get DS out of our room in feb and still he doesn't always stay in his (lovingly decorated before he was even born) own room all night. So I'm in no real rush to redecorate everyone's bedrooms just yet.

I also need to get the old baby stuff down from the attic, I'm hoping we won't need too many clothes as DS was a summer baby as well, although he was a May born 10lber so the real summery clothes may be destined for the charity shop.

@FirstTimeMummy2021 it could just be your tummy stretching, especially if baby is laying in an awkward position. I'm definitely with you on the pram buying, my first pram was so terribly heavy (given to me so I didn't have a choice with it) I'll never buy one without getting to try it out in person.

PeanutButterFalcon · 18/03/2021 20:15

@FirstTimeMummy2021 @Warrickdaviesasplates
I agree, I’m not the strongest either so want to be able to lift the car seat and pram easily. Plus they need to fit in the car

I’d probably had everything by now if I could go shopping. Nothing like some retail therapy. It won’t be long and we will be able to go and have a look at things. There’s barely anything at our local supermarket too.

OP posts:
FirstTimeMummy2021 · 18/03/2021 20:21

I'm the same! And I know the websites say how heavy they are but I dont really know how heavy 12 kg really is... Once I get started I think we will buy most things really quickly. Its been hard to get excited about when we haven't seen our friends and family properly for months.

Warrickdaviesasplates · 18/03/2021 20:34

@PeanutButterFalcon I did joke with my friend that even though this baby probably needs the least stuff (car seat and pram really) I'll probably be so excited to get out and go to a shop that isn't my local Asda this baby will end up with loads anyway. Haha.

@FirstTimeMummy2021 totally agree, 12kg means nothing to me so I need to know the feel. We need a double pram as DS is only one and not a reliable walker so the weight is a real deal breaker for me as it'll already have a heavy toddler in it before I worry about the shopping and new born!

I'm definitely feeling like it's been hard not seeing anyone through this pregnancy, it's made it feel less real in some ways. I don't think it's helped by my falling pregnant really quickly after trying for years for DS, it's like we don't deserve it to be this easy so I need the reassurance of seeing other people to cement it as real.

Does anyone else feel like that or am I insane?

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 18/03/2021 23:27

I think my icandy orange is 12.5 as a single, its lovely to push inc up hill with an 18 month old in. I think as a double it is about 18kg. Its heavy to lift but i won't really be doing that so not an issue

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 20/03/2021 11:29

Morning all

Just thought i would share that mama and papas have a £30 refer a friend deal on, minimum spend is £150 to use the code. It does work if you refer someone who lives with you! They also have a sale on

Just got the carseat i wanted plus a raincover for it, some bibs, cardigan, an outfit, hat and mits for £130

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 20/03/2021 16:40

Ooo thanks for the heads up @THATbasicSNOWFLAKE

Anyone else a bit overwhelmed about how much stuff they need for a baby.

I feel a bit like I’ve got a mountain to climb with it all - and the more articles I read the more I think I need to get!

Hopefully we can start the baby’s room in April once that’s decorated we can get furniture up and then start to buy things and it will all be in the correct place so I will know what I’ve got abs what I need.

I’m so confused about what a baby wears to sleep in! I thought it would be in a grow bag thing but apparently they can’t be used until the baby is bigger! I think I’ll panic using a blanket- even a cellular one! Any advice would be appreciated! I mean to be fair our babies are due in July- if it’s hot they’ll probs just be in their vests- or is that not allowed?!🙈 feeling very unprepared today!! Xx

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 20/03/2021 16:58

Some grow bags are fine i think from 8lb! So it depends on the size of your baby. Mine have gone straight into a grow bag or been wrapped up in a cellular blanket (i do it under their arms)

Vest, or just a nappy in very hot weather is fine!
