Thank you @ElderMillennial what did they say about abs separation ?

ElderMillennial · 24/02/2021 08:29

@tobeornottobe1 She said to engage my abs when I do anything active and to try not to get up by sitting straight up (you know as if you were doing a sit up?) but rather turn to the side to get up or hold onto something.

I think basically the more strain you put on your abs especially without engaging them the worse it can be.

I plan speak to her again next time because I already feel quite big and like they have separated a lot at 21 weeks so I want to know if there's anything else to do to support it. After a baby you can wear a band or something but I don't know about during pregnancy.

@LouLikesLollies Hey, currently in the same boat as you, i am 21 weeks and 3 days and i have not felt any movement for the past 3 days, i am getting worried because i had a miscarriage 2019, wondering if its normal or what?

Hi - I also had this at the same time as Lou, for about 2.5 days total. Now baby seems to have moved and is kicking regularly again. My original plan was to text my midwife if it got to 3 days just in case, but not certain whether she would or wouldn't have thought it was an issue before 24 weeks.

Is anyone else around the 20 week mark having bad round ligament pain at night? I assume that's what it is anyway - last night I think I flinched in response to a dream and felt a searing pain across my lower abdomen and had to wait a good 30 minutes before it had faded enough to move, or cough, etc. The amount of pain was terrifying and still feels quite sore this morning.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 24/02/2021 09:50

21+3 and having lots of both round ligament pain and growing pains in my bump. Really starting to struggle getting comfy in bed.

Had a dream last night that baby was born in a speedy, no fuss, pain free birth but was a girl! (We have been told boy!)

Going to update the list in a min ...

Blossom428 · 24/02/2021 10:03

@PurpleCurtain not when laying still, but when I sneezed- omg it was literally the worst pain across the bottom of my bump. It felt like my insides ripped! But like you took a while for it to fade. scared to sneeze again now 🙈🙈

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 24/02/2021 10:06

If you hold your bump as you sneeze it helps a little!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 24/02/2021 10:34

I have my scan today at 3pm! Anyone else feel really nervous before they had theirs?

BananaCustard85 · 24/02/2021 10:39

Hello!

Had my scan yesterday, all good 🙂and found out they're a little boy. So another one for the boy list!

Can definitely sympathise with the sneeze pain. It's horrible!

@TiredAlreadyOhDear I was nervous about my scan too! But I find as soon as I get in the room I don't feel nervous any more. It's just the waiting that's bad! Hope yours goes well

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 24/02/2021 10:43

The boy list is booming!

I think nerves are worse when you have to wait til later in the day!

PeanutButterFalcon · 24/02/2021 11:26

@TiredAlreadyOhDear mines tomorrow and I’m nervous too.

Im trying to think positive and that we get to see our baby again

PurpleCurtain · 24/02/2021 11:41

Reassured that others are having the round ligament pain too! Tummy still hurts when I move today but I guess it must just be like pulling a muscle and will probably take a few days! Regretting googling first as it came up with a ton of horror stories about misdiagnosing round ligament pain as an abrupted placenta!

Really hoping 24 weeks arrives soon as I think I'll feel very glad to be at the point where baby could feasibly survive, though that then reminds me that I've bought absolutely nothing yet and need to get on that even if just a crib and couple of sleepsuits!

Luckyelephant1 · 24/02/2021 11:44

Had my scan yesterday. Its a girl! So happy (I would have been either way) and the sonographer was lovely, she explained everything as she went along, even down to telling me at the start that she'd be quiet for a bit while scrutinising the scan but not to worry as it's all normal.

I was so nervous beforehand that I gave myself a headache!

Luckyelephant1 · 24/02/2021 11:47

Also if your letter said no partners allowed, I would strongly suggest calling the department to double check, as my husband was allowed in for the whole thing even though the letter said he wasn't. The rules had changed in the time between getting the letter and the appointment so it's always good to ask!

CoffeeAndCaramel · 24/02/2021 12:15

Congratulations @Luckyelephant1 !
Can't believe we're all around the half way mark! I'm so unorganised this time round haven't bought a thing! X

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 24/02/2021 12:53

@CoffeeAndCaramel all i have bought is a 4 pack of bottles as they were cheap in Aldi Grin

notalwaysalondoner · 24/02/2021 13:38

I had my 20 week scan this morning (although only 18.5 weeks). I was definitely nervous before as I had bad news (missed miscarriage) at a private 9 week scan last year. It all went great - the sonographer was great, she explained what she was looking for as she went through the the brain, kidneys, diaphragm, stomach, arms, legs, heart, mouth etc. We got the cutest view of its little nose and mouth as she checked for cleft palate! And we saw it wriggle as she pushed it quite hard to a different position and it almost climbed up inside me - you could see it stretch its legs out and shift position!

We didn't find out the gender, she told us to look away at the crucial moment - although I didn't want to miss anything but luckily it was just a few seconds.

I'm now excited to start buying things - I haven't bought a single thing until now because of having 2 miscarriages previously. Feels a bit scary to start! Think I'll start by making a list! My sister is a nanny so hopefully will be the fount of all knowledge! How much are you guys buying new vs. getting second hand? I could afford everything new but it just seems so wasteful when they grow so fast, there's so much lightly used stuff available, or you don't know if you'll use it - although we want 3-4 children so want things that will last...

FemaleLady · 24/02/2021 13:49

@PurpleCurtain thank you for the response, i called my midwife, she said it happens but doesnt mean theres anything wrong, it might be that sometimes i dont feel the movements since i am always bizzy.

@Luckyelephant1 congrates hey. my scan is friday, i am super nervous, and worried, and everything else, i have not bought anything at all, kinda feel like buying something would jinx things. i think by the time friday arrives i will be worse then now. hoping for the best.

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 24/02/2021 17:17

Had my scan 20weeks exactly today! Baby is fine we didn’t find out the gender.

My placenta is anterior so explains why I might not have felt much movement yet! Also the placenta is touching where the baby will come out so I have to have a 32week scan so check if it’s moved if not I’ll have to have a c-section. The lady who did ours was so nice and explained everything so well....also saw my baby’s lips and it doesn’t have a cleft so another thing less to panic over xx

Flittingaboutagain · 24/02/2021 18:25

Congratulations on the scans ladies! Mine is Monday and I'm getting quite nervous after a MMC picked up last year on the scan.

Although I had a phone call today and the ultrasound department are now admitting partners for the 20 week scan only. Result! Really grateful for this after going it alone throughout my MMC and all the resulting medical appointments and scans after it.

If all is well I'm going buy as much second hand clothes as I can and instead spend money on new equipment that will last longer than 3 months for clothes I think. But from an environmental perspective I'm also hoping to get some second plastic items such as rocker etc.

I have been feeling movement here and there. I find it so reassuring. Totally unexpected after being told at the 12 week scan not to worry if I didn't feel it until 20-24 weeks with an anterior placenta.

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 24/02/2021 18:50

@Flittingaboutagain it’s so strange as my partner has been allowed to both scans and is allowed to the 32 week one we now have planned on as well. Bet you can’t wait for Monday to come around!

I was nervous for this scan but also found it much more enjoyable as well I felt we got more time and the lady had loads to say and explain to use this time.

:)

marmilade92 · 24/02/2021 19:02

I have my 20 week scan next week at 19.5weeks. It says on my letter too that partners aren't allowed but I asked the midwife and she said he can be there so that's good to know. Just ask the midwife or phone them before to double check.

I've been feeling a lot of kicks this past week or two. Before that I've been feeling pokes since 12 weeks but didn't know for sure but it definitely was movement. Sometimes it can be quite violent and it makes me jump. The other night however, I felt pressure right across my lower tummy and I'm not sure whether it was the baby pushing and doing a full turn or whether it was braxton hicks. I had to Google it and it says if it's all hard it's a contraction but if there's soft places it's the baby moving? It didn't hurt it just felt like pressure or tightening right across. Baby also bounces away after having orange juice and I am loving orange juice right now!

Flittingaboutagain · 24/02/2021 22:22

There just weren't enough spaces for partners to wait before, as well as such a high number of staff off sick or passed away from Covid I completely understand why they couldn't let partners in before at my hospital....but am really pleased they can now :)

Braxton Hicks if they're anything like the contractions I had with MMC treatments last year might feel like your tummy goes rock solid with a pressure feeling across the belly, not in a local area but all over if that makes sense. Mine involved my belly from belly button down becoming rock solid for each contraction, but above my belly button it still felt 'tight' IYFSWIM.

tobeornottobe1 · 24/02/2021 22:56

@ElderMillennial thank you for the info. Il be onto physio too! I'm in the same boat as you, I'm 19 weeks and already huge so worried as I progress it may get worse too x

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 25/02/2021 06:28

My scan was last week, partners allowed in for last 5 min of the actual scan only here
