Did any of you NOT vomit?

I'm 6 weeks with my first and I'm absolutely petrified of vomiting so much so I almost decided against having children. I've had awful nausea and been given cyclizine but I just see so many stories of women who had vomiting or even HG. My anxiety is so bad I'm starting to regret getting pregnant. Did any of you have nausea and not vomit!? Is it inevitable that I will?

(I think we have a culture of pregnancy = being sick because it's a lot harder to show a slightly odd weird queasy feeling on film than a massive puke)

alltheadrenalin · 08/02/2021 23:10

Nope just all day nausea

YorkshireGirl35 · 08/02/2021 23:10

I felt queasy and hungover until after week 14 but I was never actually sick, and I’m someone who was previously sick when hungover drunk etc

JamMakingWannaBe · 08/02/2021 23:11

I gagged when I went into a public toilet once but other than that, no nausea and no vomiting (Age 38. Had a girl).

Biglumpycustard · 08/02/2021 23:11

I felt sick with all 3 of mine but never was sick.

chelle862 · 08/02/2021 23:12

I felt ridiculously sick, I wasn't sick at all. I wasn't sick in labour either and that was something I worried about. I didn't want a baby because I'm terrified of being sick too but she would of been worth it Smile

wingingmywaythroughlife · 08/02/2021 23:15

Never physically sick. 2/3 days of nausea during first trimester, otherwise fine

Sheleg · 08/02/2021 23:16

No vom, just nausea!

Fabuleuse · 08/02/2021 23:17

Two vomit free pregnancies here! First time I had no nausea either. Second time plenty of mild nausea in the early stages. Eating little and often really does help. I remember going to teach a class and feeling so sick I thought I couldn't do it, but I ate a packet of crisps and felt much better! By the way my nausea mysteriously vanished around week 9 for a week then came back and was gone for good by week 12.

Mulletonyourhead · 08/02/2021 23:22

Me! Felt very very sick from almost the very beginning to around 17/18 weeks, but never actually vomited.

HoldontoOneMoreDay · 08/02/2021 23:24

I had one absolutely spectacular vom climbing the steps of a stinky bar in a stinky hostel at around 4 months. It smelt like death and I just went, all over my colleague's back and onto my new shoes. Mortifying yet kind of spectacular at the same time. Was never sick again.

I agree, focusing on this won't make you feel better especially if its stopping you from eating which brings a whole host of issues with it.

Caneloalvarez · 08/02/2021 23:24

I have the same phobia and I also felt very sick but never actually threw up. I had to eat little and often to keep the nausea at bay, I had cereal bars by my bed and ate one as soon as I woke up! Every day I wondered if I'd start with HG and googled obsessively but it never happened. I remember feeling very low and scared but you will come through it and feel so proud that you made it! It is so worth it to have a little one! She's had a few sicky moments but it's only baby sick and it's manageable so far 😅 Towards the end of pregnancy I think the relaxin (?) kicked in and I had quite a lot of acid reflux in the night which was unpleasant but not eating too late helped.
I'd also be interested to hear how people overcame this phobia. It seems to flare up at times and then other days I feel able to cope, very strange!

Re-reading your posts I think it's worth reiterating:

feeling nauseous is nothing to worry about

You're scared because you hate being sick, and you know it can lead to significant problems. But you're not being sick. What's more, even if your nausea gets worse, it's still not being sick. The nausea in and of itself isn't going to make you ill.

Have something you can eat readily available. As I said, I had crystallised ginger and peppermint tea (though I think since then ginger has been regarded as a bad thing?) and another poster suggested digestives.

You are right in that I'm making myself worse by sitting reading horror stories all day and making myself more anxious. It's because I'm only 6 weeks and I've read that vomiting starts later on so I've got myself into a state. I can cope with nausea I'm just scared that because I have it already is a sign it'll turn into vomiting. I know it's not a healthy or productive thought process but I've just got myself so obsessed and worried about it now. I think ginger is still recommended! I didn't know about peppermint tea. I'll definitely get some crystallised ginger. Thank you x

I didn’t vomit at all with my first (ds) but spent months vomiting with dd.

Hello from one emetophobic to another! It is awful isn't it and so debilitating. I find mine gets worse around things where there's either stress or upheaval.. so pregnancy is the perfect time for it to rear its head! That's exactly what I am doing, reading all these horror stories and living in fear that it's going to kick in any day x

Nope - only very mild nausea here which was all but gone by 9-10 weeks, and no vomiting whatsoever.

By the sounds of the place I think it would make anyone sick! I know I'm not helping myself and I don't know if the nausea and not being able to eat much is being made worse by my anxiety or if I'm just secretly hoping it's caused by that! x

This is the same reason I've put off having a baby and even now it's happened I'm still not sure if I'm going to be able to mentally cope with it x

I honestly pray that the same happens to me, did the nausea start early? x

I'm 34 weeks and haven't been sick. Felt queasy and lost my appetite at times, but never actually sick.

Good luck. I hope your nausea calms down.

I think you're right about the culture thing, I have a few films come to my head where the woman starts vomiting at work to somewhere that's supposed to be amusing before she takes the test.. x
@ScouseSenorita yes, much better by about 8/9 weeks, and gone by 12. I don't remember any more clearly than that, sorry!

It was absolutely fine, really. I have a terrible phobia of vomiting, but it wasn't triggered at all. I tried to get lots of sleep, as that definitely helped. And eating dry biscuits (digestives or Rich Tea) helped to. But I don't think I was ever too ill to miss a meal or anything even.
I really really hope mine improves my 9 weeks as everywhere I've seen (good old google) says that 9 weeks is the peak which terrifies me the thought that it's only going to intensify over the next 3 weeks! x

I was only sick a few times when I started getting migraines around weeks 13 to 17 (apparently if you had migraines as a teen, which I did, they commonly happen again during pregnancy) but before that it was mainly general nausea and food aversions and heaving randomly at the sight/smell of certain foods.

I could handle that, I really hope I'm the same. Thank you x

No hint of nausea. Or sickness.
1 boy - long labour, no nausea/sickness at all during labour or delivery.
1 girl - csection, no nausea/sickness before during or after.

As PP have said, you can't compare. Concentrate on you snd how you feel, not how others have. Chances are you'll be fine. Don't borrow worry from tomorrow! Good luck!
