150mg aspirin from ovulation?

Hi everyone, I just got a BFP yesterday after 2 losses last year (yet to have my rainbow baby, hoping for third time lucky). I am a nlrm weight but have PCOS which I take metformin for. My mum had 4 mcs before having me.

Due to not being able to be referred yet as I haven’t had enough losses, I took matters into my own hands and started taking 150mg of aspirin at ovulation stage and am still taking it now. I haven’t had any bleeding so far or any negative symptoms.

I did my research and chatted to some friends who had recurrent miscarriage, I read articles and also threads on here where others had been advised to take 150mg of aspirin to help with implantation from ovulation, and then to continue right through to 36 weeks.

However I just wanted to double check if anyone else is doing this or has been told to? If I make it far enough in this pregnancy to have a booking appointment I’m fully prepared to be told off by the midwife for taking it without being told to by a medical practitioner... but after 2 losses it’s a risk I’m willing to take to be honest to do everything I can to prevent it this time.

There’s NHS articles online saying there’s no risk to mum or baby so I feel like there’s no harm, but I do feel a bit ‘naughty.’

If anyone has any experience of this or any advice I’d love to hear from you. I just really want this pregnancy to work out ❤️ Thanks

Hi lovely! @Cafeaulait27. I’m so pleased for you. Wonderful! I’m 7+4 today and I’m so tempted to book an early scan but I’m really trying to wait until I’m 9/10 weeks. So nervous.

Out of curiosity did you suffer with bloating? My tummy is so tender from where I’m so heavily bloated. I’m so uncomfortable. Tried everything! X

Cafeaulait27 · 02/04/2021 15:03

@Summersun001 thank you!! I truly think now that it’s not worth having very early scans, it just causes so much worry a lot of the time! So if you can hold out I would say it’s the best option. It does eventually come around!

I have been very bloated. Some days it’s not too bad and other days it’s terrible. I think it’s something that is supposed to ease off in the second trimester! Everyone keeps telling me how great the second trimester is haha 😆

Hey ladies. I went to A&E yesterday after I had a sudden bleed. Not clots or tissue and it’s subsided by the evening - very dark spotting today.

I can’t say that I’m feeling positive, I think this is the start of a second loss. I’ve got my second blood test tomorrow to check my levels. They can’t get me in for a scan until the 14th! It’s all so incredibly sad. I just don’t want to hold our Hope just have my heart broken yet again! X

Cafeaulait27 · 05/04/2021 13:14

@Summersun001 oh no I’m so sorry to hear that! Good to hear that there were no clots and the blood is subsiding now. Try to keep an open mind until you get blood results, I know it’s easier said than done.

Such a shame they can’t get you in for a scan sooner! Would you consider a private scan this week? Xxx

Hi everyone! Hope it's okay that I join. I've had 3 MCS- 2MMCs between 8-10 weeks and 1 MC at 6 weeks. We have never heard a heartbeat and growth has never made it past 5.5 weeks. I was awaiting a referral for the RMC but decided to go private to rule out clotting (which came back neg) so we could continue trying. Does anyone here live in Scotland or Glasgow and know how long the wait is?

GYN said I could take asprin and progesterone as a 'might help' but he has said to me 75mg from a BFP, but after reading this thread I'm not so sure!!

We are in the TWW just now and just praying it doesn't happen again. It is so comforting to hear some positive stories 🌈 congrats to all who are having success this time around 🤞🌈.

BubsNumber2inTheMaking · 29/04/2021 06:23

Hi @DancingGiraffe, you don’t need to wait until bfp to start taking aspirin as it can actually help with implantation by increasing blood flow to the uterus (so I’ve read!). I started taking 150mg from ovulation and it worked - I’m currently pregs! But I’ve had light, brown spotting since my bfp which has caused quite a lot of anxiety after 2 losses. Had my bloods checked and the results yesterday showed numbers have doubled so it’s just a waiting game now. I’d definitely take aspirin again if this fails though, as I got pregs first go trying it! I think I might reduce it to 75mg if spotting doesn’t completely stop soon though - just in case the aspirin is contributing to it. It’s definitely supposed to do more good than harm though! Good luck for your tww! 🤞x

Hello - just doing some more reading about asprin and came across this thread. Sorry to hear about everyone's experiences however great to see the success stories. I just wondered if you all continued taking the asprin throughout your pregnancies? Anyone else have experience of success using asprin? I have had 3 early losses since I started to TTC #1. Recently confirmed pco and possible pcos at a private clinic. They advised to take asprin from a BFP just as something to try. However, this cycle I have been on 150mg asprin since ovulation and I think I have got a BFP at 9dpo. After the other losses I don't have any expectations this will progress but going to continue with asprin for now.

Moominmiss · 15/05/2021 08:37

@Catmum55566 I’m so sorry about your losses, but tentative congrats on your bfp!

Im currently 22 weeks pregnant and still taking 150mg aspirin a day. I’ve been told by my consultant to continue taking it until closer to my due date.

Good luck

Catmum55566 · 15/05/2021 10:26

Thank you @Moominmiss. Wow 22 weeks that is great! Congratulations! Great to hear this positive outcome. I think I will keep taking the 150mg asprin rather than the 75mg suggested and just see how things go. I'm only 9dpo and ridiculously early so will take it 1 day at a time.

Catmum55566 · 15/05/2021 10:27

And I will learn to spell aspirin! Smile

lockdownbabyx · 15/05/2021 20:20

Hi @Catmum55566 I started taking 150mg of aspirin from ovulation, I'm 16 weeks tomorrow and so far so good. Before this pregnancy I had 3 early losses, all before 7 weeks. My midwife told me I could stop taking aspirin at 12 weeks, however I was petrified to stop incase something happened! So they've said they're happy for me to continue taking up until 36 weeks. They basically told me it wouldn't do me any harm.
Tentative congrats on your BFP, hope it all goes well ☺️ x

Slk3558 · 17/05/2021 10:52

Hi @Summersun001 just wondering how you got on after your bleed? Hoping everything went well for you x

Ruthsoph · 17/05/2021 15:02

I have also endured numerous miscarriages but never 3 in a row so further investigation on re-currant miscarriage would have to be done privately
I am 43 and just discovered I am 4 weeks 4 days so super anxious but throughout ovulations I was taking 75mg of asprin which from reading above I will now up to 150mg
my miscarriage's are usually around 7 weeks so perhaps an early scan at the hosp and then we can discuss further things
i was prescribed Progesterone's last time so perhaps they may suggest that again?

Slk3558 · 18/05/2021 12:59

Has anyone here taken baby asprin for their whole cycle or is it best just take after ovulation?

deedsnotwords11 · 18/05/2021 13:01

I did this after 2 miscarriages, also have PCOS. Not sure if it was the aspirin, but I had a successful pregnancy and actually kept taking it until delivery as later on in pregnancy I was advised to. Wishing you all the best!

Summersun001 · 18/05/2021 21:51

Hi lovely! @Slk3558.

So far…so good 👍 . I’m now 14 weeks, after my bleed I had near enough a fortnight of brown discharge but I had my 12 week scan and everything was absolutely fine. I think we’re going to book in a private scan for around 16 weeks, it just seems too long to wait for the 20 week one! I’ve been taking 150mg since ovulation and will continue to take it, I’m consultant led because of my BMI and no one had raised any concerns around the aspirin. I wouldn’t take aspirin for the whole cycle personally as your period will probably appear to be heavier where the blood has thinned? I literally caught the first cycle of taking aspirin, and I will definitely do it again should I have any future pregnancies xxx

Slk3558 · 19/05/2021 13:29

@deedsnotwords11 thanks and congratulations on having a successful pregnancy.

@Summersun001 that’s great news congratulations! I was really hoping you’d make it to your 12 week scan after I read you had a bleed .

I started taking 75mg on CD10 I am CD12 today. I wasn’t sure weather to take it before ovulation or after but after reading all these posts I just thought to take it sooner rather than later as I’ve had two early losses. My only concern is whether to take 75mg or 150 but I can see most of the ladies on here having taken 150 so I might up it to 150 after confirmed ovulation. Wishing you all the best and hope soon I can add to the positive testimonies on this thread!

Ruthsoph · 19/05/2021 14:00

@SIk3558
I used to take 75 but my doctor advised 150mg so have upped it

Cafeaulait27 · 19/05/2021 18:05

Hi @Catmum55566 I’m still taking it and now I’m almost 20 weeks. It seems to be working a treat!

Without the aspirin I really don’t think I would’ve made it to 12 weeks. In my eyes it’s a wonder drug!

My baby is kicking and wiggling around in my belly as we speak! Xx

Cafeaulait27 · 19/05/2021 18:07

@Slk3558 I waited until after ovulation, as then I knew it would hopefully help aid implantation. It worked on our first cycle with aspirin and I’m now nearly 20 weeks. I would def up your dose to 150 that’s the NHS recommended amount xxx

Summersun001 · 19/05/2021 21:37

@Cafeaulait27 how lovely!! When did you first feel movements? I can’t wait for this 💕 x

Cafeaulait27 · 20/05/2021 07:12

@Summersun001 felt first internal flutters at 15 weeks, which is really early for first baby and I have an anterior placenta which is supposed to make it hard to feel them.

It’s been quite scary at times though as I’ve gone several days feeling absolutely nothing a few times. I phoned triage a few times in tears and they had to calm me down, I was so worried something had gone wrong. Just recently I felt nothing from Saturday - Tuesday, then since Tuesday night the baby has wiggled loads! Both internal movements and a few little kicks I can feel on the outside if my hand is in the right place.

It’s very hard to not feel anxious when there’s no movement but as it’s so early I’ve been told not to worry about it. I think they say it doesn’t settle into a pattern until 24-28 weeks.

Hope you feel some movement soon but don’t worry if you don’t for a while yet, it’s totally normal not to until over 20 weeks for first baby xxx

Thanks @Cafeaulait27. I will take 150 mg after ovulation should be in a few days. If you don’t mind me asking how many previous MC you had? It’s really great that it worked on the first cycle for you!

Cafeaulait27 · 20/05/2021 11:04

@Slk3558 I had one miscarriage at 9 weeks which was my first pregnancy after 5 months trying. Heartbeat was found on a scan at 6 weeks and I was told everything looked good except baby was small, but they told me not to worry. I miscarried a few weeks later and my theory is that baby wasn’t getting enough oxygen/nutrients hence the heartbeat but small size, but I’ll never know for sure.

My second miscarriage was what many people would call a chemical pregnancy, it happened 2 months after the first, I tested positive but then I had a very long and heavy period. Then I tested again and it was negative 😔

Also just to note I could never be bothered with ovulation sticks, I just used my glow app to tell me when my ovulating window was and started taking the aspirin around then as well as doing it every day! Weirdly I just knew it’d worked, I ended up testing a few days before my period was due and it was positive.

Hope it works for you, good luck 🌈

@Cafeaulait27 thanks 😊 I know I’ve ditched ovulation sticks this cycle too was stressing me out too much last cycle. Best of luck for rest of pregnancy! X
