150mg aspirin from ovulation?

Hi everyone, I just got a BFP yesterday after 2 losses last year (yet to have my rainbow baby, hoping for third time lucky). I am a nlrm weight but have PCOS which I take metformin for. My mum had 4 mcs before having me.

Due to not being able to be referred yet as I haven’t had enough losses, I took matters into my own hands and started taking 150mg of aspirin at ovulation stage and am still taking it now. I haven’t had any bleeding so far or any negative symptoms.

I did my research and chatted to some friends who had recurrent miscarriage, I read articles and also threads on here where others had been advised to take 150mg of aspirin to help with implantation from ovulation, and then to continue right through to 36 weeks.

However I just wanted to double check if anyone else is doing this or has been told to? If I make it far enough in this pregnancy to have a booking appointment I’m fully prepared to be told off by the midwife for taking it without being told to by a medical practitioner... but after 2 losses it’s a risk I’m willing to take to be honest to do everything I can to prevent it this time.

There’s NHS articles online saying there’s no risk to mum or baby so I feel like there’s no harm, but I do feel a bit ‘naughty.’

If anyone has any experience of this or any advice I’d love to hear from you. I just really want this pregnancy to work out ❤️ Thanks

Also, my first 2 pregnancy losses were with my ex 3 years ago. I fell pregnant on the first try both times.

With my current partner I also fell pregnant first try, so I don't seem to have any issue conceiving but I am yet to get past 7 weeks, I'm really hoping the aspirin helps me this cycle 🤞🏼

Cafeaulait27 · 09/02/2021 18:39

Hey @lockdownbabyx sorry for your losses. My pregnancy is going ok so far but I’m only 4+5 🤞 hope things go better for you this time.

Just to let you know the NHS guidance is 150mg now - so I take 150mg. I was nervous of it at first but it is the official guidance, I’ve been on it for about 4 weeks now and it’s fine. I started taking 75mg with my last pregnancy and lost it super early (like under 4 weeks) so I was brave and upped the dose this time. Totally up to you though 😊

Wish you the best of luck 🍀🍀🍀

@Cafeaulait27 thank you, I have read it 150mg now, I just didn't date up the dosage haha. Il read up more on it and go from there ☺️

Good luck with your pregnancy also, hope everything goes perfect for you xx

choccrumpet · 09/02/2021 20:30

@Cafeaulait27 brilliant thread! I've had 3 chemical pregnancies, all ending around or just after my period due date. I'm going to start taking aspiring this cycle after I ovulate and was going to take 75mg but you're making me rethink and up to 150mg, going to have to think about it. I haven't been advised by any doctors but have read a lot about it and it makes me feel better knowing I'm trying something different this time that will hopefully help. Fingers crossed for all of us!

Hi all. Ive had 3 recurrent miscarriages since last year and currently 6 weeks pregnant. I have no children yet! Im on asprin and high dose folic acid which i have been taken since my last miscarriage (december 2020) and now taking progesterone and heparin since the postive test. Ill keep you posted 🤞

lockdownbabyx · 09/02/2021 22:11

I've just been reading on a few nhs websites that it has been increased to 150mg, so I will double the dose from tomorrow I think. Fingers crossed for all of us xxx

Cafeaulait27 · 10/02/2021 06:15

@choccrumpet I hope it works out for you, keep us updated!

@Bobs82 that’s great, hope it helps you this time. Are you taking 150mg?

@lockdownbabyx I think that’s definitely a good idea, keep us updated xx

How are we all getting on? I got very faint positives today, I'm only 9dpo so not getting my hopes up just yet. I just felt horrendous this morning so couldn't help myself, I had to POAS 😂.

@Cafeaulait27 @Moominmiss are you still getting on ok with taking aspirin? I increased my dose to 150mg, so far so no negative side affects xx

@lockdownbabyx that’s exciting! Congratulations!!!

I feel totally fine on 150mg other than normal preg symptoms, I’m 6 weeks on Thursday. Really hope it helps me this time 🤞 time seems to be standing still xx

@lockdownbabyx I’m feeling fine in regards to the aspirin. I can’t say I’ve noticed a single side effect. Just the normal pregnancy symptoms.

Still taking 150mg, but I keep forgetting to take it at night and end up taking it in the morning.

Moominmiss · 16/02/2021 21:06

@Cafeaulait27 also totally with you on time standing still!!! I’m 8+2 and have a scan on Thursday. Feels like I’ve been waiting for it FOREVER!!!!

lockdownbabyx · 16/02/2021 21:10

@Cafeaulait27 @Moominmiss so glad to hear everything is going well for you both!

I really hope the aspirin helps me this cycle and this one is a sticky bean, time will tell I suppose ☺️

Hope all goes well at your scan! Keep us updated xxx

Cafeaulait27 · 16/02/2021 22:50

Hi ladies! Still no BFP for me sadly. Coming up to my fertile week! @Cafeaulait27 did you say that you started taking aspirin before or after ovulation? Xx

Cafeaulait27 · 17/02/2021 06:44

@Summersun001 i started taking it at the beginning of my fertile window, as it can help with implantation, and it seemed to work as I got pregnant! This was our first month trying after my very early mc in late November last year. I’ll never know but I think it helped. This is the first time I’ve had to implantation bleeding too, not sure if that means anything. I’ve just carried on taking it since my fertile window 🙂 fingers crossed it helps you xx

Summersun001 · 17/02/2021 12:10

Yes fingers crossed! I miscarried at the same time, so I’m hoping this month is our month. Started taking them today so I’ll let you know how I get on! 😘 hope you’re keeping well xxxx

Summersun001 · 04/03/2021 17:17

Hi Ladies, I just wanted to check in an ask how everyone is on the aspirin? I had a faint BFP today, have been taking aspirin since before ovulation at 150mg a day.

So nervous now. It’s going to be a long old wait to 3 months. If I get there 🤞 xx

Moominmiss · 04/03/2021 17:34

@Summersun001 congratulations on your bfp!! 🤞🏻 For you, I hope things progress beautifully for you!

I’ve been taking 150mg aspirin a day since ovulation and am now either 10+5 (my dates), or 11+1 (date by scan). So far things are going well but a nipt test and scan next week will hopefully tell us more 🤞🏻

Summersun001 · 04/03/2021 18:15

@Moominmiss thank you ❤️ It’s such a strange feeling after a loss. Really do have everything crossed!

Wishing you all the luck in the world! Did you go for any early scans? I’m conscious that I may be setting myself up for heartache if we were unlucky again. In some strange way, having not had a scan previously made it a little easier to digest as I hadn’t seen a heartbeat/baby or anything? Xx

choccrumpet · 04/03/2021 18:19

Congratulations @Summersun001 that's amazing news!

I was taking 75mg from around my fertile week. Couldn't pinpoint my actual ovulation. End of last week I got some very faint positives but they are now negative and still no period. Either my late ovulation delayed my period or it's something else but my period is late and I'm testing negative. Really not sure what's going on. So I'm considering stopping my aspirin now because I'm expecting my period to arrive any day. Of course I'm cautiously hopeful that it'll be a late positive but sadly doubt that will be the case this month.

Really lovely to hear your good news, helps to stay hopeful. Thank you for sharing with us!

choccrumpet · 04/03/2021 18:20

Oh and I've no idea now if those positives were evap lines or not as they've now turned negative and still no period

Moominmiss · 04/03/2021 18:53

@Summersun001 I truly hope this is it for you. Pregnancy/bfp, the whole thing is just so scary and unsettling after a loss. It’s excitement, but cautious! All I kept telling myself was that this was a whole new egg, a whole new sperm and there was no reason why this wouldn’t be the one to stick.
I mean don’t get me wrong, I still panic every minute of every day, still check the loo roll when wiping etc, but I also know that I can worry all day long and it won’t change whatever date has in store for this baby!

I had quite a lot of early scans 🙈 I had one at 5+4 at the EPU due my previous losses, we saw a heartbeat then, then I had them at 6+2, 7 weeks, 8+4, and 9+6 all private.

Each scan was better than the last, at the last scan baby was super active, measuring 4 days ahead from where I thought I’d be.

With my previous 4 losses we never saw a heartbeat at any scans so for me I know I just wouldn’t be able to wait until potentially 12 weeks and then get bad news. I needed to be prepared.

Now I just need to get through the nipt next week 🤞🏻

Cafeaulait27 · 04/03/2021 19:32

@Summersun001 that’s great news! So pleased for you 🙌

I’ve been taking 150mg since ovulation and have also started progesterone, I’m now 8 weeks, fingers crossed! 🤞 xx

Summersun001 · 09/03/2021 19:05

Hi Ladies, me again! I’m having a moment of panic really. Having only just had our BFP we obviously haven’t told anyone in the family.

I guess I’m just a little anxious about having made the decision to take aspirin. I will say, my BFP was so so clear even at an early stage. And I’ve had stronger symptoms this time around. I guess for me, one loss is enough and I just didn’t want to chance it again. Although nothing is guaranteed I know that. How are you all getting on? Have any of you had a chance to tel drs/midwife that you’re taking it? I’m just interested to know what they said xxx

choccrumpet · 09/03/2021 19:51

@Summersun001 glad to hear you're doing well and that aspirin seems to be working for you 🤗

I'm pretty sure I have miscarried for the 4th time, even with taking aspirin but this one happened after 5 weeks and it's the longest I've carried so far so there might be something to the aspirin. I'm going to increase my dose to 150mg next cycle and looking into getting a progesterone prescription. Have a pelvic ultrasound on Monday so hoping to either get reassurance that everything is fine or not and be able to do something about it.

These positive stories are really helping at the moment 💕
