150mg aspirin from ovulation?

Cafeaulait27 · 05/02/2021 12:11

Hi everyone, I just got a BFP yesterday after 2 losses last year (yet to have my rainbow baby, hoping for third time lucky). I am a nlrm weight but have PCOS which I take metformin for. My mum had 4 mcs before having me.

Due to not being able to be referred yet as I haven’t had enough losses, I took matters into my own hands and started taking 150mg of aspirin at ovulation stage and am still taking it now. I haven’t had any bleeding so far or any negative symptoms.

I did my research and chatted to some friends who had recurrent miscarriage, I read articles and also threads on here where others had been advised to take 150mg of aspirin to help with implantation from ovulation, and then to continue right through to 36 weeks.

However I just wanted to double check if anyone else is doing this or has been told to? If I make it far enough in this pregnancy to have a booking appointment I’m fully prepared to be told off by the midwife for taking it without being told to by a medical practitioner... but after 2 losses it’s a risk I’m willing to take to be honest to do everything I can to prevent it this time.

There’s NHS articles online saying there’s no risk to mum or baby so I feel like there’s no harm, but I do feel a bit ‘naughty.’

If anyone has any experience of this or any advice I’d love to hear from you. I just really want this pregnancy to work out ❤️ Thanks

Hi again ladies, I started taking aspirin from ovulation and I'm now 6+4 so still very early. The furthest I've ever got is 7 weeks so waiting to get past that milestone. I have a scan in Thursday too, hopefully il get to see little beans heartbeat xx

Summersun001 · 09/03/2021 20:21

Aw @choccrumpet. I’m so sorry darling. I hope you’re alright. That’s the thing, none of this is guaranteed to work is it. I really do hope that you get the assistance of you Dr. Mine isn’t the best, I’ve even considered changing surgeries! I’m on 150mg at the moment, I just get really anxious moments that I could be doing something potentially harmful. It’s all a worry isn’t it. Sending all my love to you xxx

@lockdownbabyx good luck lovely! I miscarried at 8 weeks. I’ve decided that if I make it to 9, I will definitely have a scan for peace of mind. Fingers crossed xx

choccrumpet · 09/03/2021 20:48

Thank you @Summersun001 I'm okay, up and down to be honest but it's really does help hearing about others positive stories, I'm trying to believe that it'll happen when it's meant to happen. My doctor is okay, I feel like I've had to insist on certain things and suggest tests etc which as a patient I don't think is my job to do so can feel frustrating at times. I've done a lot of research on aspirin and I've seen nothing about it being harmful to the baby. Of course you do what you think is right and best for you and baby. But if it's not this I'm sure there are other things you'll worry about, I'm certain you're doing everything you can and should, keep remembering that. I really hope things continue going well for you!

@lockdownbabyx lovely to hear you're doing well 🤗 hope the scan goes well

Cafeaulait27 · 09/03/2021 21:06

Hey guys, I had my booking appointment today and told the midwife I was taking aspirin - she didn’t mind at all!

I feel like I’ve hit a milestone as I was bleeding by 7 weeks last time and I’m now nearly 9 weeks xx

@Cafeaulait27 that's brilliant, very happy for you 🤗

Summersun001 · 10/03/2021 05:54

@choccrumpet it absolutely will happen for you. Keeping positive is the most difficult thing during moments of sadness. After my mc I was determined to get pregnant again and I’m surprised at how I’ve felt since I found out. Just feel on eggshells and not allowing myself to think about it just yet. But I do have everything genuinely crossed for all of us.

@Cafeaulait27 that’s amazing! I was having a moment of panic yesterday - thank you for sharing that. I’ll just continue as I am and hope for the best xxxx

LemonDrizzles · 10/03/2021 10:52

Me too. I had a loss and was "scolded" during that pregnancy for not taking aspirin. So on the next one I did as soon as I got a bfp. She's sitting in front of me now dc2. By the time I was 3 months pregnant with dc2, I had my first face to face appt with consultant / midwife. They said they likely wouldn't have recommended it but to keep carrying on with it. I did until I delivered. Also I took 75 mg

Inastatus · 10/03/2021 10:57

I took 150 mg of aspirin (along with Clexane injections and progesterone supplements) throughout both my successful pregnancies following several losses. All was good. I wish you lots of luck for this pregnancy.

Summersun001 · 15/03/2021 19:36

Hi ladies. Just a quick one to say hope you’re doing okay. I keep having moments of worry with taking aspirin. People cannot help but give you their opinion can they! Xxx

Cafeaulait27 · 16/03/2021 10:51

Hey @Summersun001 how come you’re worried? How far along are you now?

From what I’ve read from the nhs website - there are no risks to you or baby (unless you’ve ever had a stomach ulcer). My mum was a bit worried about it at first but when I told her the facts and that women with recurrent mc are put on it without any testing she now fully supports me.

I’m 9+5 weeks now and no problems so far xx

Morning all! Just an update, I had my scan last Thursday when I was 6+4. All was well and I even got to see the little heart beat. I know I'm not out of the woods yet, but I'm now 7+2 so it's the furthest I've ever got without bleeding 🤞🏼. Whether that's thanks to do with taking the aspirin, I have no idea. have a private scan booked for the 3rd April also.

How is everyone getting on?

Cafeaulait27 · 16/03/2021 11:50

That’s such great news @lockdownbabyx you must be so relieved!

I have had my booking appointment and was told I couldn’t have an early scan so just waiting for 1st April for my dating scan.

No bleeding as yet so hoping it’ll all be ok this time around xxx

Hi everyone, glad to hear @Cafeaulait27 @lockdownbabyx you're both doing well.

I'm entering my fertile week and tracking ovulation so will be starting my 150mg sometime soon, either day after my peak if I catch it or around when I think I'm ovulating.

I've discovered I've got a bicornuate uterus, it's heart shaped at the top and I'm not sure how deep the separation goes down, we believe it's just slight right now so it shouldn't affect me getting pregnant but it might be for all we know. Either way I'm preserving with my aspirin and hoping it will help 🤞🏼

Summersun001 · 16/03/2021 17:47

Hi ladies. Thanks for replying. Glad you’re all okay.
I’m 5+1 now. So hoping to get to 9 weeks as my next goal.

@Cafeaulait27 oh the usual really! I told my mum the other day, as I’ve been offered the vaccine in work and have chosen to decline. She asked why and I told her, we got on to the topic of aspirin and she didn’t agree. I haven’t spoken to friends about it - But I’ve made a promise to myself to stop reading other forums and articles! So far I’ve not had any issues and so I will stop worrying. :) I promise! 😅 I’m definitely going to book a scan. Need to put my mind at ease.

Glad your doing okay @lockdownbabyx! Lovely to have such positive stories.

@choccrumpet ooo exciting! I conceived on my first cycle of aspirin so I’m really hoping it brings you some good news :) xxz

lockdownbabyx · 16/03/2021 19:30

@Summersun001 when I told my mum about me taking aspirin, she was also concerned. However SO many people are advised to take it even if they're tests come back normal. It's often used as a precaution with the "it's worth a try" attitude. It's such a small dose, very unlikely to do any harm. I really wouldn't worry, the only thing I would say is, if you do start bleeding then to stop taking it. I told my GP I was taking it and she had no issues but said to stop straight away if I do bleed.
Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy ☺️ xx

Cafeaulait27 · 17/03/2021 07:09

@Summersun001 I totally get that- I was a bit nervous at first and my mum said she was worried. But once you know the facts and see all the evidence I think it would be a bad thing to not take it! Once I explained to my mum the reasons she was on board. Who knows if it’s working for me, but I feel much better taking it and almost 10 weeks is the furthest I’ve got!

Good luck guys xxx

@Moominmiss hey hun have seen your name before. Hows everything going. So found out I'm now 4wk but suffered a mc in jan so happy but nervous. I currently taking 75mg of aspirin after reading very helpful threads. Question p/s did you start to take 75mg and than around 12 wk change to 150mg or you took 150mg from the start. Just wondering if it's safe. Just waiting for MW's booking at the moment. Thank you 🥰

Lizbb · 23/03/2021 07:01

@lockdownbabyx glad to hear all is well. May I ask when you started taking aspirin and how much did you take? Thank you

lockdownbabyx · 23/03/2021 08:19

@Lizbb I started taking 75mg from ovulation for about a week. I then realised they the nhs have changed this doseage to 150mg. It seems everyone I spoke to was taking 150mg aswell so I decided to up my doseage. Been taking it ever since and I'm now 8+2.

It's also worth adding that this is the furthest I've ever got without bleeding, I don't know if the aspirin is the thank for that but it seems a pretty big coincidence. Good luck ☺️ xx

Moominmiss · 23/03/2021 08:34

@Lizbb so far things are going really well, I’m currently 14+1, had a fab dating scan yesterday.

So I took 150mg aspirin from 1dpo and am Still taking it now. My midwife checked with the consultant who confirmed that’s the dose they recommend and want me on it until third trimester.

I’m convinced it’s what’s made the difference this time, but I suppose I’ll never know.

Congratulations on your new pregnancy, I have everything crossed for you. I know how terrifying it is after a loss!

Summersun001 · 23/03/2021 09:50

Hi ladies! I’m also still taking 150mg. 6+1 today, so fingers crossed!

@Lizbb I started taking 150mg right after ovulation. So far I’ve not had any bleeding either. Trying as best as I can to hold out until 8 weeks before booking a private scan x

Can I just ask - have any of you had any side effects from the aspirin? I’m not sure if it’s aggravating my morning sickness. I normally take all of my vitamins in the morning but I’m considering taking the aspirin at night now. Just wondered what your experiences were xx

lockdownbabyx · 23/03/2021 09:54

@Summersun001 I take aspirin and my vitamins after my dinner in the evening. I do get nausea at night time however I don't think it's related. It comes and goes and it's not every night. As far as I'm aware, no side affects as of yet ☺️ xx

Lizbb · 23/03/2021 10:47

Thanks everyone for your responses and congrats again 🥰. I take mines in the evening since finding out I was pregnant. So will take 2 from today and up it to 150mg. I'm slightly over 30bmi and 36 yrs old.

Cafeaulait27 · 01/04/2021 19:39

Hey guys just thought I’d update you all - had my 12 week scan today and it all went great! Measuring ahead by 1 day and measurements look great xxx
