@Piccalily19 you made the right decision, who knows you might have this baby before the scan, the weight looks good at the moment and definetely speak to your midwife for more info and details.
As long as you feel ok, and you feel the baby is doing good in movements etc then don't stress i'm sure everything will be ok.
But any concerns get in touch with them. XX

Stef92 · 25/01/2021 11:46

@Bambino87 my husband works in construction so can't self isolate as things stand, we are hoping his boss stops him from going to site once we are in Feb.

OnNaturesCourse · 25/01/2021 11:55

@Stef92 we are the same with the construction work but unfortunately there is no way they'll stop him going onto site, plus he van shares so is in close contact with atleast a few people each day.

I think there needs to be more done for expectant parents in the run up to birth during covid.

Stef92 · 25/01/2021 12:01

@OnNaturesCourse he does the site assessment and measurements so I'm hoping they can send the other person who is in the same role from Feb as he can still use the measurements others obtain to draw up what needs to be made - he doesn't fit the things. He could travel to site in his own car on his own if needed to buy his boss insists on car sharing 🙄

Piccalily19 · 25/01/2021 12:03

@OnNaturesCourse @Safxxx thanks both! Baby’s movements are regular as they’ve ever been, I have an anterior placenta but whenever I lie on my sides I feel him squirming away.
Praying I do go into labour naturally early in the meantime, I’ll get on the natural induction techniques sharpish!

babbit87 · 25/01/2021 12:31

@Piccalily19 well done you for standing up for what you want. They did the whole "the risks are on you" speech with me with my 2nd DC, made me feel really crappy about it but I really didn't want to be induced either (ended up induced anyway 1 week later for reduced movements but thats neither here nor there!) Its had a bad effect on me now as I'm sooooo reluctant to go for reduced movements this time as my hospital have a policy that of you go up for monitoring when you are past 37 weeks they suggest induction. (Also have anterior placenta so can go all day without feeling LO when I'm on my feet - cheeky monkey likes to hide) I personally had a much better time when I went natural. I sometimes think they suggest induction when it is convenient for the hospital! As in its more predictable that they will have plenty of staff on IYSWIM?? Trust your body and trust your instincts.

jbx10 · 25/01/2021 14:01

@Piccalily19 please don't worry you've made the decision you think is for the best! I'm also FTM with low PAPPA and have been going for growth scans since about 28 weeks. My baby has been measuring on the 10th percentile all the way through but following a steady curve. I had a growth scan at 33 weeks and she told me they'd have to induce at 37 or 39 weeks dependant on her growth at next scan. Even though they'd always said as long as she's following a curve then no need for induction. 35 week scan she'd had a huge growth spurt and now no need for induction. But everything else was showing with no issues at all so I would have pushed back an induction especially as early as 37 weeks.

How is everything else? They check my blood flow through the cord as I think low PAPPA can effect this. If everything else is okay & baby's movements are all okay then I would have made the exact same decision as you!

I was told they are pushing a low of inductions at the moment as a way to try and control hospital numbers/admissions xxx

Safxxx · 25/01/2021 16:00

@jbx10 No way thats terrible pushing for inductions for reducing admissions.
The first day i went in for reduced movements i was told by a doctor we won't let you pass 40wks i said i've not passed it with my other 3 so i'm not too worried.
She said to be on the safe side if you've not had it by then we will induce you and she started writing notes down. I mean once upon a time going 2 wks over was never a issue infact it was normal, and now its like they rush you in everything.

Need to be careful and trust our instincts and do whats best for our babies.
Yes many times there is a need for it but other times its not necessary.

Piccalily19 · 25/01/2021 16:03

@babbit87 thanks for sharing your experience, glad I’m not the only one! I do feel like she could have given me a bit more of an explanation and chance to register it all as opposed to just verbally chucking a tonne of info at me then expecting me to have processed it all. She wasn’t horrible at all and she’s just doing her job but I definitely can’t process information like that properly.
@jbx10 nice to hear from someone else on the PAPPa wagon, glad yours is going in the right direction! Think i got cocky because my growths been on the 60-70th I didn’t really think induction would be suggested even if growth did dip a little this late on.
My RI reading for umbilical artery Doppler was .66 today and it’s been .6 something throughout all my scans, i can’t find info on a normal range but they’ve said flows been good at every scan. All other notes on fluid etc say normal.
Doesn’t surprise me about the admissions control though :/

pampero · 25/01/2021 16:07

Interesting hearing all this about inductions, especially if you're almost being asked on the spot without having a chance to process or speak to partners properly. I saw some stats for my area and noticed a decent percentage were inductions but had / have no idea if thats their normal level or if its higher for the reasons mentioned here.

jbx10 · 25/01/2021 16:16

@Safxxx absolutely, it wasn't out the ordinary at all to go 2 weeks over at all was it providing everything was okay. I think we are just a day apart aren't we, I'm trying to stay positive she will come before or on 40 weeks or else I'm sure I'll be induced. I don't think they'll allow me to go over. But agree we need to trust our instincts and do what we feel is best.

@pampero I know you can see why they might want to be controlling admissions not sure what the normal rate is but it does seem high at my hospital too.

@Piccalily19 I also didn't consider induction as was told throughout as long as she follows a curve and everything else shows ok then they'll be no need. I am finding there is such a difference in opinion from one consultant to another. I know they might vary slightly but you would think they would generally be on the same wave length, my consultant last weekend as totally against induction unless absolutely necessary! Just makes it harder to know what to do for the best xx

IronMummy28 · 25/01/2021 16:37

@Piccalily19 facing induction next Monday too (my due date!) if this baby doesn’t arrive before then! Been very concerned about it but the more I read the calmer I feel. Unfortunately you don’t hear many positive induction stories but they are out there! And just keep reassuring myself there’s a reason they do them so often!

babbit87 · 25/01/2021 16:44

Yes its so hard to know what to do especially as our partners aren't with us. I'm not anti-induction as there are many cases where it is necessary but I strongly feel it should be your own choice and that you're not pushed. I agree, going over by two weeks used to be normal. I think reasoning behind the change is that they recognise there is a higher risk of baby pooping in the womb and swallowing meconium after 40 weeks.

TheGirlWhoLived · 25/01/2021 16:59

I’m sort of the opposite- I’ve had inductions twice in the past, and when I got admitted a couple of days ago they said they would induce at 37weeks (Wednesday) I was really happy!

The baby is considered term at 37 weeks and I would much rather them be out and be able to see if they are growing/struggling/moving rather than constantly be panicking when they are inside! I’ve had positive induction experiences and love being monitored as I get quite anxious otherwise at the complete lack of control....

Happy to answer any questions re induction if anyone has one! I’m certainly not an expert but I have done two in two different hospitals so I have plenty of first hand experience Grin

jbx10 · 25/01/2021 17:02

@TheGirlWhoLived that's really good to hear too, I'm so glad you had positive experiences both times! definitely not anti-induction it is just confusing when getting mixed messages from different consultants you just want to make sure what your doing is for the best and that is a good way to think about it! Xx

OnNaturesCourse · 25/01/2021 17:28

Okay so just in from walk, only a mile and at toddler pace, but once I got home I went to the loo and on wiping I have lost about liner length of really thick mucus and I had loads of cramps when I walked too quick.

Plus one instance on the walk I suddenly felt soaking wet - like the liner couldn't absorb it quick enough. My liner was pretty damp but not soaking like it felt when it happened, however whatever its been has happened in a gush as my pants surrounding the liner are wet too.

Could my waters be starting to go? Never had it happen naturally before..

OP posts:
Muriel84 · 25/01/2021 17:34

@OnNaturesCourse sounds like it could be your waters for sure. That’s exciting!

Appreciating the positive induction stories too as I’m pretty scared of being induced. Also worried about postnatal ward which the reading the thread on post c-section after care hasn’t helped 🙈x x x

OnNaturesCourse · 25/01/2021 17:40

I'm going to keep a eye on it... I use pretty heavy duty super absorbant liners so I am wondering if they have soaked up more than I have realised. 🤔 Baby is moving fine, so I'll see how it goes

OP posts:
Char41zam · 25/01/2021 17:47

@OnNaturesCourse sounds like it could be your waters! There are 2 lots of waters and when mine went with my first it wasn’t much so was questioning if I had just peed lol but when I went up they said your hind waters are still intact it’s the other waters that went so it could be that

babydust2412 · 25/01/2021 17:48

@OnNaturesCourse that sounds like it could be your waters! How exciting xx
Maybe call your unit and see if they'll check you over to see? Xx

Safxxx · 25/01/2021 17:51

@OnNaturesCourse i would get that checked out, usually they do a speculum test to see if it is the waters.
If it is they expect the baby to be born within 24hrs, or else its a risk of infection.

Safxxx · 25/01/2021 18:01

@TheGirlWhoLived i'm not anti induction either, as i've said before, at times its necessary and maybe not in other cases.
Yes do share your experience i'm sure it will enlighten many of us. Xx

Safxxx · 25/01/2021 18:04

@Muriel84 what have you decided? Will you be induced or are you going for a C-section?
Have you moved house yet or still on going? Xx

jbx10 · 25/01/2021 18:09

@babydust2412 exciting does sound like your waters! I would agree and get checked to make sure 😇

pigletpie2177 · 25/01/2021 18:13

Hi all, totally interloper from the January board but happened upon this and saw @TheGirlWhoLived's offer to talk about inductions. At this rate my baby will be a feb baby - 40+3 with a very high bump still 🙈

I'd love to hear your induction stories - I'm hoping for vbac after planned c last time for breech baby and had been dodging induction chat but my consultant wants to induce this weekend if we achieve nothing with a (third) sweep this Friday. Feeling a little overwhelmed and bouncing on ball/eating dates etc to try to encourage it to happen naturally.

Any info much appreciated!
