@wrensandrobins 🤣😂 I learnt that lesson when I ran DS his first bath. Babies are meant to have body temperature baths but I tried it and it's horrible and cold. I normally do his around 38-38.5.

Fortunately I'm not big on baths anyway. But I 100% agree that 37C baths are miserable.

Raffie13 · 03/01/2021 18:37

So I'm only 5 weeks tomorrow but I'm thinking of telling my manager I'm pregnant (via email as we are working from home next week - I'm a teacher).

What would you do, tell or not to tell?

Manager is male and not too approachable so I'm trying to chicken out of doing it face to face. As well as that, everything with covid in schools, vaccines etc..makes me think it's not something I should keep secret for a long time from work? Surely there's risk assessments etc? I teach about 120 students per week so I'm constantly mixing. We constantly have students and staff off work due to covid or being in contact with people with covid.

What do you think?

2020mc · 03/01/2021 18:52

@raffie. I'm a healthcare worker and am due to get the vaccine soonish I think, once it comes to that point I'll probably have to tell my work. I wear mask, visor, apron and gloves with every patient. I think everyone should have a risk assessment and I'm going to request not to see any patients who can't wear a mask as thats an increase risk. To be honest if I was a teacher I would be a little concerned and want a risk assessment soon so I would probably speak sooner. Covid definitely is more of a concern for me now I'm pregnant. Sorry, don't want to be scaremongering, i just know a couple of people with long covid and it's not good. One of my patients last week was a midwife and said she would consider getting signed off work 😯 (I do have dodgy lungs too)

VNttc · 03/01/2021 19:12

@wrensandrobins

Noooo don't say that! I was looking forward to a bath - finally having one installed after not having one for over a year! I think as long as your body temp doesn't exceed 39 degrees it's okay?

Darklava09 · 03/01/2021 19:18

@Raffie13 I also work in a school...non teaching role so am also thinking the same thing. Don’t want to tell them too early though either as I know some heads really dislike pregnant women Envy let me know what your planning on doing and how it goes?

wrensandrobins · 03/01/2021 19:24

@Curiosity101 I love baths! Oh well, I would rather not take any risks. @VNttc yeah that's right, it's about your body temp, so as long as it doesn't rise above that, I'm a worrier so I think I will stick to the guidance or stick to showers

Raffie13 · 03/01/2021 19:30

@Darklava09 @2020mc

Good to know I'm not on my own with this one! I read online that being pregnant can weaken the immune system so that's worrying with covid. And obviously they aren't giving the vaccine to pregnant women either.

I work in a college so it's a little different but I have definitely worked in schools in the past with terrible heads! My manager is understanding, just not too approachable!

I think I will email him tomorrow to say it's still early days but thought I'd make him aware due to the current risks.

123deepbreath · 03/01/2021 19:40

Another healthcare worker here, I'm a paramedic but I've had covid then found out I would have been pregnant during having it if that makes sense? I've booked an early scan to make sure everything look about right then I'm going to tell work in a few weeks. I'm lucky though as I'm on a phased return from covid at the moment.

Hopefully your manager will absolutely fine with everything @Raffie13

AHobbyaweek · 03/01/2021 19:58

I was worrying about the bath thing last night but can't live without my baths! Surely I could sit with a thermometer?!?

Raffie13 · 03/01/2021 20:22

@123deepbreath

Sorry to hear this! I hope you have had a smooth recovery. We all need to be careful this year with pregnancies. Hats off to you with your job though you are fantastic! Thanks

123deepbreath · 03/01/2021 21:26

@Raffie13 It was pretty rough I won't lie but I'm feeling so much better thank you!

danigrace · 03/01/2021 21:28

@wrensandrobins yes I had a bath today with my 15 month old and it is cold! Never the relax I envision!

@Raffie13 I agree with you, there's more things to consider with everything that's going on at the moment. Do you hope to stay home?

@123deepbreath so sorry to hear you've been poorly. Do you feel fully better now?

I started on the baby center pregnancy meal planner today, all tasty so far!

123deepbreath · 03/01/2021 21:39

@danigrace much better, but it's knocked me right off my feet for 5 weeks, seems I was only of the unlucky ones who got hit hard but my partner just had a slight cough for a few days!

Scotti84 · 03/01/2021 22:02

@AHobbyaweek I’m like you, just got a load of lush bathbombs for Xmas. It’s about the only time I can really relax. I’m still going to have them, just not as often and not as hot as usual, I read if you don’t go red and overheat too much it should be ok.

Regards to work, I have my first drs app tomorrow and seeing how that goes I might tell my boss then. I’m not actually working atm, I work in a hotel and we’re closed still which I’m quite thankful for, but when we do open again having contact with people from all over does worry me a bit. I live in a very touristy town, very near to the original Disney castle in the alps if anyone’s heard of that, so as soon as we are allowed to open we will be booked out so it’s not like I’ll be eased back into it either.

felicityheather · 03/01/2021 22:18

@Noornie I'm still breastfeeding my eldest. It's agony already. I keep snapping at him when he latches strangley. Not sure how long it will last at this rate!Confused

Raffie13 · 03/01/2021 22:20

@danigrace I'm interested to hear about the meal planner! I've never heard of it! Luckily I've been eating quite well up until today but I always need new ideas :)

I'll definitely have to go back to work after we stop teaching online but the conditions can be quite difficult (classroom windows open all day, no masks, full classrooms etc) but I've heard some schools allowing teachers later on in their pregnancies to start working from home so it could be an option further down the line

NestingWren · 03/01/2021 22:25

Hi everyone! Really appreciating this group. Just found out I’m pregnant, v early days. Decided it’s time to come out of hiding and say hello!

I just turned 35, it’s my first, been trying for a few months so feeling over the moon and also can’t believe it’s finally happened.

Glad to see I’m not the only one worried about the bath situation!

Wishing everyone all the best with your pregnancies!

Lisakathryn · 03/01/2021 22:34

Hello. I'm joining the September club.

I wasn't expecting to experience this much anxiety. Oh my god, the thought of getting to 12 weeks is stressing me out. I'm terrified of my own shadow.

I'm a teacher, primary. I've spoken to my headteacher today and she said that there's no greater risk in the first qmd second trimester. The third trimester is more of a risk because the pressure of the baby impacts on your ability to breathe. She said she'll do qn individual risk assessment for me, but other than that there's no greater risk.

Also... baths. I have had a couple before I realised I was pregnant. Should I worry?

Rice1992 · 03/01/2021 22:38

@Raffie13 my husband’s a teacher too and his colleague (who was vulnerable to begin with) is pregnant and had terrible morning sickness. She hasn’t been in work since end of October I believe and is teaching online, but won’t be back until after baby now (baby isn’t due until like march time). Obviously she’s an extreme case, but hopefully school’s will take the same approach as the risk isn’t worth it at the moment.

Side note, has anyone had an explosion of spots since getting their BFP?! Since coming off the pill I started to get some spots around the time of my period, but now they’re constant! And on my back/shoulders which I’ve never had before 🤷🏼‍♀️🙈

Lisakathryn · 03/01/2021 23:03

@Raffie13 yes to the spots. I actual think I might have acne 🙈

VNttc · 04/01/2021 07:48

@nestingwren congratulations! When's your predicted due date? I found out a week ago now and I'm still in shock and disbelief that it's finally happened! Still waiting to wake up and discover its all a dream!

@lisakathryn the anxiety is real and so exhausting! Every day I'm learning more things I should or shouldn't do! Must remember that women have been having babies successfully for thousands of years though without all of this knowledge!
I think with the bath situation it's more off a concern that you might faint than anything else :) your body is good at altering your core body temperature to keep you and baby safe!

I'm going to have my risk assessment at work this week. I work with xrays, anaesthetics and animals so it's challenging to keep myself safe at work :( thankfully I don't have to deal with the public too much!

@Rice1992 YES to the spots! I got them before I got my BFP and then thought they'd settled but found a few more yesterday 😭 all on my face (at least I can hide them with a mask at work!)

Scotti84 · 04/01/2021 08:48

Morning all, hope everyone’s doing okay today!

I’ve got my first gp appt, I’m not expecting much apart from maybe bloods and another appt in a few weeks but I’ll let you know how the Germans do things!

Feeling bit sick this morning, it usually comes on in the afternoon so that was a nice suprise. I also had weirdness in the night, my stomach felt kind of heavy and tight, it wasn’t painful and no cramps, just uncomfortable, anyone else had something similar?

Idreamof2more · 04/01/2021 08:50

Hi I’m scared to join but got my digital bfp yesterday still can’t believe it. I have lost 3 before 6 weeks so a nervous wreck! I am so spotty and tired. In lockdown with a moody teen and a hypo 4 year old whilst exhausted is fun! 🤣

Birchtree4 · 04/01/2021 09:07

Hey @Scotti84!

I have been getting the same, seems to be shortly after I lie down to go to bed I feel tightness in my pelvis. Almost like a burning? But I wouldn't call it pain, just discomfort. Is yours like that?
I read as long as it isn't persistent and not severe then its probably normal.

My nausea is also mostly in the evening and pretty mild (but early days haha)
Take care x

jenni93 · 04/01/2021 09:09

Hi everyone 🙋‍♀️ so excited to join you all, got my BFP on Saturday at 5+5, and am due 1st September 🎉 this will be my first LO and I still can't get my head around it.

So far I haven't had many symptoms at all, I feel super bloated all the time, and have had really mild cramps every day since my missed period was due, but other than that I feel normal which is weirdly unnerving. Oh and my pee has changed smell, anyone else had that? 😂 Not bad or anything, just different.
