@jenni93 my pee had a funny smell (not like an infection, almost biscuity?) and then the other day it was pale and cloudy (has since been normal and clear)! So weird! Going to just keep drinking loads of water I think!

catgamerlady · 04/01/2021 09:27

@Raffie13
I'm also a teacher although I'm in a secondary in Scotland. We're not due to be in front of pupils until the 18th when I'll be 7 weeks. (Although Scottish parliament is being recalled today so that may change!). I'm planning on going in at some point before that to discuss with the HR person and get a risk assessment. Once I have a RA I will be getting my union rep (who is involved in H&S for my LA) to look at it.
I don't really want to tell anyone yet but they will have to keep this confidential although depending on the outcome of the RA I think people may guess as up until now I've continued to deliver practical science lessons as normal. I'm really lucky as I have a great school, but even then pupils don't socially distance and some staff seem to forget as well!
I really hope that if you go ahead with telling them they are supportive and put in place anything you feel you may need to look after yourself! Don't be afraid to make your needs known, this is your health and that of your baby's. We are terrible as teachers for just muddling through whatever happens but this is too important!
All the best to you Thanks

Noodles4Me · 04/01/2021 09:55

Hello ladies, can I join? I'm 5 weeks + 5. First baby and am ancient (!) at nearly 39. Due anytime 2-5 Sep apparently.

Not done midwife yet, thought I'd wait till end of next week, is that going to be okay?

Peeing lots. Tiny bits of nausea and hips/pelvis very achey. Otherwise okay.

Still like you all, terrified but trying to be cautiously optimistic. Not telling anyone until at least 12 weeks.

Happy 1st trimester Smile

wrensandrobins · 04/01/2021 09:57

Anyone exercising? I ran before getting pregnant- but was a bit of a slow and steady kind of runner.

Braved my first run pregnant this morning and it was hard- my resting heart rate before pregnancy was 65 and now is 82!

Now frantically panicking over every twinge despite all the information that exercise like running is fine in pregnancy.

Zelda91 · 04/01/2021 10:01

@Noodles4Me my mum had me when she was 40 and my dad 44. They are wonderful parents - age is just a number! (Until you get to your MW appt and they tell you you're officially 'geriatric' 🤔😂).

@wrensandrobins I used to be a regular running but got bronchitis in Sept and haven't run properly since - I wanted to start again in the new year but little bean has made an appearance. I'm paranoid to start again now but need to get my bum in gear I think! Need to stop wrapping myself in bubble wrap (/making excuses!!).

Lisakathryn · 04/01/2021 10:04

@wrensandrobins my boyfriend is a physio. He's adamant that exercise is crucial. Light though, and lots of yoga. He keeps telling me that I need to strengthen my legs and back so that I'm not dying at 8 months. He's making a programme 🤦‍♀️

So I think light exercise is OK and good for you and the baby, just don't over do it x

wrensandrobins · 04/01/2021 10:13

Yeah fully on board with that, @Lisakathryn I live in a hilly area and so I think I will modify my normal run to walk up the steeper hills because I was really struggling for breath on them, and definitely could not have 'had a conversation' which is how the nhs define it, I think going a bit easier on myself is probably more realistic and sustainable

Also was googling pregnancy yoga in bed this morning, as I was doing weekly yoga before I got pregnant, but I don't think my yoga teacher allows pregnant women for safety reasons

JollyHollyFolly · 04/01/2021 11:01

@wrensandrobins I've been running for most of the year semi-regularly (more jogging than running!) as I used to go to the gym a lot and wanted something to replace it. I was also doing some YouTube video exercise too. Definitely want to keep it up at least a little although my nausea is really stopping me atm. I did do a slow 5k on new year's Day which was fine but my boobs hurt soooo much!! In my last pregnancy I kept up the gym until about 6/7 months where it kept giving me pain and I was advised to stop so I then did long walks everyday (I was a student at the time and had to defer my exams so I had nothing to do!). But I was a lot younger then!! I do think it helped a lot though.

I'm going back to the lab this week (I'm a scientist) and I am a little worried about the nausea progressing to actual sickness as it's such a pain to get all the PPE on and off! I'm a bit worried about puking in it!! Or in the lab. I really don't want to tell work for as long as possible.

Gadea · 04/01/2021 11:31

I got my BFP yesterday and I'm so excited!!

NestingWren · 04/01/2021 12:37

@VNttc Thank you! And Congrats to you too! My due date is 8th Sept. How about you? I also feel like it's a dream, a really wonderful dream! Crossing everything that it works out all ok.

@Scotti84 & @Birchtree4 yep got similar discomfort in what feels like my uterus. Like mild cramps, sometimes a little stronger, mostly at night. Definitely normal from what I've read and heard. Just the uterus stretching out to get ready Smile

I've not been nauseous yet but very early days!

Feeling for all of you teachers who are trying to weigh up whether or not to go into school. I'm lucky that I work from home, mostly, just need to work out whether to do my once-per-week home visit! I guess as long as I check in with people before each session it should be relatively safe.

So many extra things to think about with Covid aren't there!

NestingWren · 04/01/2021 12:38

@Gadea congratulations! Me too! Best feeling in the world

NestingWren · 04/01/2021 12:45

@Noodles4Me congratulations! I'm due 8th Sept. In reply to your Q about appt...I rang up the local midwife to get an appointment this morning and they told me to wait and call back when I'm 6-8 weeks pregnant. Currently, however it is they work it out, I'm only 4-5 weeks. So sounds like you have time. I'm also peeing a lot! LOL

Happy 1st trimester to you too!

danigrace · 04/01/2021 12:57

@Scotti84 oh gosh that sounds like a magical place! Totally understand what you mean with work though.

@Raffie13 these are the meal planners, eating my way through week 1 at the moment and enjoying it so far!! www.babycentre.co.uk/a1046500/pregnancy-meal-planners-trimester-by-trimester

@NestingWren @Idreamof2more @jenni93 welcome and congratulations!!

@Lisakathryn congratulations! Sorry your feeling a bit rubbish, I had terrible anxiety in my first pregnancy too so can totally relate (this is baby 3). I muddled through but still struggled and with baby 2 had CBT for anxiety (NHS) and it helped MASSIVELY. They prioritise you if you're pregnant.
And don't worry about the baths, loads of people still have no idea they are pregnant at this point.

@Scotti84 good luck at your appointment today! The tummy weirdness you describe is how I know I'm pregnant!! My earliest sign each time.

@Noodles4Me congratulations! Our midwife referrals are online - there's a link to a form on the hospital antenatal care webpage that they ask you to fill in and email then they get back to you. Not sure how it works in other areas though. We're in Cheshire.

@wrensandrobins heartrate naturally increases in pregnancy so I wouldn't worry about that. Keeping fit will certainly help you out when it comes to giving birth!! I can't run because I've got a health condition where my joints easily dislocate but I do a lot of Pilates which is very pregnancy friendly.

@JollyHollyFolly good luck! Sickness in PPE does not sound fun!!

danigrace · 04/01/2021 12:58

@Gadea congratulations on your BFP!

Birchtree4 · 04/01/2021 13:13

@wrensandrobins thanks that is reassuring to hear!

Anyone else started feeling emotional? I'm not normally overly emotional but feel like I could so easily cry today (despite feeling happy if that makes sense haha) x

wrensandrobins · 04/01/2021 13:15

@NestingWren I'm due the 9th! Super close wren due dates haha

Darklava09 · 04/01/2021 13:37

I’ve let the GP know today and she has referred me onto the midwife! I’m 6+1 today so I’ve just got to await my midwife appointment now where they will sort out my
Bloods ect
Returned back to work today in a school... got to say it’s very anxious time in schools and not pleasant at all

Birchtree4 · 04/01/2021 13:53

Sorry too many wrens, I meant to thank @NestingWren!

Birchtree4 · 04/01/2021 13:54

Does anyone else work in the NHS?

123deepbreath · 04/01/2021 14:01

@Birchtree4 Definitely more emotional, I cried at a video of a dog the other day whilst I was eating Christmas chocolates!

Birchtree4 · 04/01/2021 14:04

@123deepbreath glad it isn't just me! Thats adorable

Birchtree4 · 04/01/2021 14:08

@123deepbreath crikey right on cue, just started watching an episode of Tidying Up to inspire me to sort the flat out and already felt emotional at the intro 😆

Idreamof2more · 04/01/2021 14:13

I’m due 11th. My eldest is 28th so hope the gap doesn’t close too much. Xx

123deepbreath · 04/01/2021 14:14

@Birchtree4 I'd love to say I have a supportive OH but he just laughs at me! 😂

Scotti84 · 04/01/2021 15:30

So had my app, they took bloods, urine and did an internal ultrasound. He couldn’t see much but deffo something there. Then he said it might be two sacs but he won’t know properly until next week when it’s bigger! 😮 Wasn’t quite expecting that one! Other than that I got a bit of info, said to avoid raw meats and cats, and over here they recommend a jab against flu and also against whooping cough, apparently to protect the baby in the first two months before it has its jabs. But that is optional. I asked about my age (36) and if there’s anything extra I should be aware of and he said just a test in the 12th week to see if there’s anything not properly developing but other than that should be normal! Feels a bit more real now!
