Had my first scan yesterday they haven’t gave me a due date but have said i am just over 5 weeks I was thinking I was 6 weeks by lmp 🥰

Okay, deep breath I'm going to tentatively join.

Hey everybody! Second timer, my daughter will be three in February. History of multiple early miscarriages so I'm not quite out of the danger zone yet. 4+4, due on the 22nd of August currently. Lots of positive tests taken all been great so I've no reason to think this one won't stick other than my own experience and paranoia.

@BertieBotts that's awesome! Crazy how these things can line up :) What's the ramifications of being signed off? Do you still get paid?

Wow @BertieBotts that must have been a surprise! It's one of the reasons I'm really reluctant to tell work - I'm mostly from home, but the parts of my job where I do get out and about are my very favourites and I don't know what the policy is about continuing that!

Joined from another August thread. Due date 1st August based on lmp with my first but got a scan on Saturday so I might just nudge into July! Got my first midwife appointment on Monday.

Really struggling with sickness atm. Managed to eat some plain mashed potato for lunch, exciting times!

Signed off on full pay as long as the coronavirus threat is here. Germany is extremely protective of expectant mothers! Even in non-corona times, I'd have the same if I worked with dangerous chemicals, doing lots of lifting, or with young children (due to the threat of childhood illnesses). The company has to move you to another role (such as office-based) or they can say they have no alternative work, in which case you're signed off for the duration of pregnancy (and then you go straight into maternity leave).

It does shoot me in the foot a bit, because I am currently on a very part time (12h pw) casual arrangement which is not contracted, and I'd been hoping to get a full time or at least 25 hour contract, which I probably won't get now. I might keep looking for office jobs.

I also had to tell them as soon as I knew apparently - as it could invalidate their insurance if I knew but didn't let them know, and I had some kind of complication due to events at work.

Yes, defo. We will usually video call everyone over the course of Christmas, so they'll all get told then :)

@BertieBotts that sounds incredible!

We're telling family - the original plan was to tell on Christmas Eve (after our early scan on the 23rd) but DH has just been called into work and now won't be home until the evening of Christmas Day (which is a disappointment in itself, ruined our plans a bit!) so I'll have to hold questions about not drinking at bay, and say orange juice in a champagne flute is Buck's Fizz until he gets home!

@biscuitcat there so many more convincing options for "drinking" but not drinking. This is my third 1st trimester Christmas so I'm a bit of a pro 😂
They do some really quite nice alcohol free sparkling wines. I get one from Sainsbury's which is about £4 a bottle. Likewise alcohol free beers are really getting better, I like anything but Becks blue.
Hot Vimto/Ribena with a dash of orange makes a good substitute for mulled wine, or there are plenty of mulled punches around.
I think it's Sipsmiths that also do a gin-less gin, if you want people to see yourself pouring a gin&tonic x

Well it would have been better if DS2 had managed to settle into childcare so I was working more than 12 hours a week! But I'm not going to complain, if I'm getting paid to put my feet up.

I always get really mystical/woo about early pregnancy but I feel like it's significant we have our first scan on the 21st, the winter solstice. If we're lucky enough to see a heartbeat that will be like a light or star blinking in the darkest day of this difficult year. If we end up having another boy, I think I'm going to look for names that mean solstice/light in the darkness.

I was supposed to fly home for Christmas but as my country pretty much announced it you leave before a second negative COVID test then you might get a 9600€ fine so yeah staying in London and spend it just with my husband laying on a sofa doing nothing. easier this way to not tell family yet. Planning on waiting until the 12 week scan at least if not longer as don't want my mother to get over excited until we know everything is Okei and we have a proper plan how to tell both families.
