Hi everyone,
just hoping to get as many people in one thread as possible. More scope for sharing knowledge, concerns or worries. Wishing everyone the best of luck on this journey.
When I've a minute I will try and tag everyone across the three threads.

It’s been really lovely to see some positive scans @VWLolabunny9119 @ame88 @BertieBotts

@haidri hope you are doing ok, sorry to hear how uncertain things sound.

I had my booking appt (over the phone) on Sunday and bloods / urine appt on Monday. Although only formalities it did feel nice to be talking about my pregnancy as though it’s actually happening!

I’m 9 weeks on Thursday and really considering booking a private scan for the reassurance as my NHS one isn’t until 11th Feb. I worry a bit about what people have said about what you do if it’s bad or uncertain news. It seems that the NHS will just say I have to wait until the 12 week scan which must be very hard. Decisions!

BananaHammock23 · 19/01/2021 19:58

@Miniheart I feel the same way about private scans! The deciding factor for us was that my partner can't come to the NHS scan; so we wanted to book a private one as well. I'm having the private one on Friday and my NHS 12 week scan on Weds; purposefully close together incase there is any uncertainty at the private scan. I would've done it the day before/morning of if our local private place had appointments.

LBunz · 19/01/2021 20:09

Hi Ladies. I have my booking in appointment next week. Not sure what to expect but hopefully all will be ok. Must go alone though so I’m expecting all future scans will be the same which is really sad as DP is very excited Sad but needs must.

Nausea has me floored the past few days. I seem to have a MN aversion to certain textures, mainly veg. I’m constantly shovelling in oranges so at least I’m getting some nutrients. Wanted a huge bowl of pesto pasta for tea but managed half before I started retching when trying to swallow. Is this a pregnancy thing? I was enjoying the taste but had to really concentrate to swallow and retched afterwards. Happed earlier today when I tried to eat some tomatoes and soup Envy (not envy).

DP has been a bloody star in keeping me supplied with oranges and salt and vinegar Pringles which is the only thing I’m enjoying.

LBunz · 19/01/2021 20:09

An aversion not a Mn aversion Grin

Alittlexmasmagic · 19/01/2021 20:17

@LBunz he's really not missing much at the booking in. It's just bloods, BMI, urine test and a whole raft of questions.
Have your trust stopped partners going to both scans? Might be worth checking the website for current guidance.x

Thank you for sharing this @Mae19 It must be so special when the scan goes well and you hear the heartbeat and get to see your little bubba!

@BananaHammock23 your decision making makes sense. I’m fortunate in that my trust is allowing partners to scans. So I’d be booking it just for reassurance and because I’m being a little impatient!

Yeah I don’t think he’s bothered about that tbh, glad to get me out the house for a while I imagine Grin. I actually googled that a few weeks ago and information on one page said you must attend appointments alone. I’ve just looked again and while that page is still there, under the “covid info” it does say you can attend scans with 1 named partner, so fingers crossed!

BertieBotts · 19/01/2021 22:17

DH isn't allowed to my scans either, I did feel a bit sad today to see it wiggling around and all he gets is a blurry picture!

I will see if he's allowed to the high detail one but I'm guessing not. And even if he can I don't know who we'd get to look after DS2.

We're about to fill up this thread if anyone wants to start a new one :)

Hey everyone!
Is anyone else having trouble sleeping? I’m constantly exhausted but then it comes to sleep and I’m wide awake 😭 I’ll be 12 weeks tomorrow and I was really hoping this would all dwindle off now but it seems to be getting worse! I never struggled like this with my daughter 😴😴 absolutely any recommendations are very welcome!

Not sure if I've introduced myself but I'm expecting #2 with an EDD of 4th August although I've got my 12w scan tomorrow eek!

I'm not sleeping well either. I wake up several times in the night to pee and then its difficult to fall asleep. The aches and pains started last night too, think I need to dig out the maternity pillow!

Jessicapebbles · 20/01/2021 12:42

@wimbler .. I’m so glad I’m not on my own! I am due 5th August and have my scan on Friday, good luck! Yeah I’ve been restless as my hips really hurt no matter how I lie. I didn’t have a pregnancy pillow with my DD, I had a tiny bump and she never bothered me...starting to think this baby might be a giant 😂 I’ll have to look in to getting one.

Miniheart · 20/01/2021 13:31

@Jessicapebbles @wimbler Also really struggling with sleep. I go off fine but wake in the night for the toilet and as much as a try I can’t go back off for ages. Last night it was 2am and I was awake until at least 3:30am... urgh! As I’m on my first and only 9 weeks I don’t own a maternity pillow yet but would people recommend it might help?

I found one really helped. I had bad pelvic pain with my first so needed something between the knees for support. I've already started using a pillow for that but the full length pillows that support you are good. I also end up on my back a lot when I sleep so need something to stop that when I get bigger.

NewMamma21 · 20/01/2021 14:58

Hi everyone,
I’m due about 10th Aug, this is my first baby & first pregnancy. Feeling lucky it’s happened quickly for us but so far the experience has been horrible! I’m really hoping it gets better soon.
Had an 8 week scan & saw baby’s heartbeat, dating scan is booked for 30th Jan!

Thisisbananas3 · 20/01/2021 16:11

Hi everyone

Nice to see some new names on the thread, congratulations to you!

There was a point on private scans upthread- I think they’re good and bad. It was nice to see heartbeat but it only calmed my anxiety for about 10 minutes! But I think if there’s a chance your dates are confused or you go too early it can lead to a lot of confusion. If your nhs scan is in the next week or 2 it may not be worth the cost?

Re sleeping- yes! This started on Saturday, i feel shattered all day but when it comes to bed time I’m wide awake. Then awake for several hours in the night. I’ve no advice I’m afraid but I feel your pain.

I’ve also had a lot of watery discharge today (sorry if tmi!) which panicked me a bit as I’ve not had that so much, it feels like there’s a lot of it. Am hoping it’s normal but I get worried at everything!

Am interested in what pregnancy pillows anyone would recommend, I’d like to treat myself to one after the scan if it’s good news!

I've heard wonderful things about the bbhugme - definitely got my eye on one but they're very expensive. I've seen them second hand on facebook but personally for the minimal saving I'd rather buy new and sell on as I've got some vouchers to use up and they seem to sell on for a decent price. We also don't need to buy any big items this time round - trying to justify it to myself!

I've got a dream genii from first child, it's ok but I didn't love it I found it quite flimsy and I had to also use another pillow between my legs.

my husband hates all maternty pillows as they take up so much room in the bed Grin

BertieBotts · 20/01/2021 16:39

When I knew we were planning more kids I insisted on a king size bed :o It pays off!

Thisisbananas3 · 20/01/2021 17:17

Just googled the bbhugme and wow that is pricey... but if it helps you sleep, I’d pay good money for a decent sleep! (Or just any sleep atm). Then it seems all baby things are expensive, I was looking at the cots and prams people recommend on other threads... £750 for a pram, £200 for a car seat, £200 for a cot that lasts 6 months.... 😱 best get used to this being my life now!

And we have a super king, at times I often think that’s too small 😂

SS123456 · 20/01/2021 17:29

@Thisisbananas3 and it only gets more expensive as they get older too 🙈😂

biscuitcat · 20/01/2021 17:37

@Thisisbananas3 I've been astonished by how expensive baby things are!! I know everyone always says babies are expensive but I never tried to put a figure on it, now I'm doing that it's eye-watering!

Thisisbananas3 · 20/01/2021 17:51

I’ve never really looked at baby items before but eye watering is a good way to describe it!!

I can certainly imagine it getting worse as they get older too! I think I was an expensive child, I always wanted 10000 barbies, seems it’s time for my payback!!!

Miniheart · 20/01/2021 18:01

Welcome @NewMamma21!

@Thisisbananas3 I’m week 9 tomorrow and my NHs scan is 11th Feb which will be exactly 12 weeks. I’m thinking about booking the private scan for next week - so week 10. So I think / hope I’ll be far enough along then only have two more weeks to wait.

I’ve also heard good things about the bbhugme - so pricey... but I also think that if it helps sleep and sees me through then probably a good investment. Haven’t bought anything yet, feeling weirdly that I should wait until my first scan.

Thisisbananas3 · 20/01/2021 20:08

@Miniheart oh but I understand it’s a long time to wait. I had an 8 week scan because despite feeling awful, I couldn’t believe it was real and was convinced that there was no baby there! I felt reassured but went back to stressing... I think at 9 weeks you’ll see something and it might make the next few weeks go quicker? I do understand though, my scan is 3 weeks today and I’m so tempted to book one for the weekend just for my own impatience!!!!

Tbh even looking at prams I feel im getting too ahead of myself. I can’t imagine actually buying stuff until after the 20 week scan but I don’t know what people usually do.
