Hi everyone,
just hoping to get as many people in one thread as possible. More scope for sharing knowledge, concerns or worries. Wishing everyone the best of luck on this journey.
When I've a minute I will try and tag everyone across the three threads.

Hi everyone, congratulations to you all and I'm so delighted to be here!

I'm just coming to the end of week 9 and this is a pregnancy after loss and various medical ups and downs, so we didn't expect to fall pregnant for a while. I have a bump/bloating going on which is getting me really excited as I can see my body changing.
Just wanted to join in and soak up all the excitement.
I have a noticeably increased thirst, food aversions (I've also eaten lots of veg but can't look at anything green), weird and horrible nightmares, sore boobs which are much bigger and I think that's about it! No MS to speak of, although I have felt nausea for a few weeks!

Is anyone else having the vivid, awful dreams?!

Mondaymonday249 · 20/01/2021 21:49

That should say 'I've always eaten lots of veg', implying the change - I can't seem to face it and definitely a tad worried about that!

Thisisbananas3 · 20/01/2021 22:23

@Mondaymonday249 welcome and congratulations! Sorry to hear of your previous loss, wishing you a healthy pregnancy!

I had 2 nights of weird dreams (talking cats, asteroids, a shooting!) glad that didn’t last long but don’t think I’m asleep long enough to dream atm! Have you been having yours for long?

I don’t know what it is about green food that’s grossing us all out?!

Hope everyone has a good night- no trips to the loo, no crazy dreams and no random awakenings for hours on end!

Champson · 20/01/2021 23:21

I had weird dreams too come to think of it - never would have put it down to the pregnancy!! I’ve also developed this new habit of waking at 3:55am and not getting back to sleep for ages. Annoying! Although I’m sure nothing like what’s to come Confused

I’m 9+3 today and still no booking apt or scan :-( I rang the local midwife service today (high Wycombe in Bucks) and they were like, yeah we have your form just wait for someone to call. I just don’t see how they’re going to squeeze in booking appt and get a scan booked in for basically two weeks from now if they’re that busy already. Frustrating!! Although a bump has most definitely arrived - no surprise with three in there but still so so so weird!!

PurplePansy05 · 21/01/2021 07:29

They will. My booking appt was at 10+2 and booking scan booked the same day for 12+3. I was stressing out too but it was fine. They will have to talk you through the tests too, I think they might be different to standard in a multiple pregnancy but am not sure.

I sleep terribly these days :( Either insomnia or vivid dreams and light sleeping, I'm exhausted.

ame88 · 21/01/2021 08:04
@Miniheart oh but I understand it’s a long time to wait. I had an 8 week scan because despite feeling awful, I couldn’t believe it was real and was convinced that there was no baby there! I felt reassured but went back to stressing... I think at 9 weeks you’ll see something and it might make the next few weeks go quicker? I do understand though, my scan is 3 weeks today and I’m so tempted to book one for the weekend just for my own impatience!!!!

Tbh even looking at prams I feel im getting too ahead of myself. I can’t imagine actually buying stuff until after the 20 week scan but I don’t know what people usually do.
I had a private on Tuesday (8+1) and NHS isn't until 18th Feb...not sure if I can wait that long! Especially because they found a cyst on one of my ovaries and although I've been told not to worry I do keep thinking about it...

Jessicapebbles · 21/01/2021 08:10

@ame88. Sorry to hear you’re worrying about your cyst. If it offers you any reassurance, they found a 7cm cyst on my right ovary during my first pregnant and when they came to re-scan it had totally disappeared. It’s back now at around 4cm but I know it goes up and down and I had a very healthy pregnancy and it didn’t cause any issues. Hopefully it will be similar for you xx

Champson · 21/01/2021 08:14

@PurplePansy05 thank you - makes me feel better!!! Xx

That has made me feel so much better actually as mine is measuring the same!!
Just need to keep myself busy for the next 4 weeks!

Alittlexmasmagic · 21/01/2021 09:05

@Champson fortunately the community MW and antenatal scan teams are completely different so don't worry too much about your scan date. They'll fit you in, I think they have up until 14wks to do the screening. Frustrating for you to be later but still okay. At least with fortnightly scans after, you'll have lots of opportunity to see them grow x

@Thisisbananas3

Just googled the bbhugme and wow that is pricey... but if it helps you sleep, I’d pay good money for a decent sleep! (Or just any sleep atm). Then it seems all baby things are expensive, I was looking at the cots and prams people recommend on other threads... £750 for a pram, £200 for a car seat, £200 for a cot that lasts 6 months.... 😱 best get used to this being my life now!

And we have a super king, at times I often think that’s too small 😂

oh I would love a super king! we've got a king size which is big enough for now! All the kit is so expensive. We're lucky that we can use everything again but my advice would be definitely look around for second hand options (minus car seat, mattresses etc). You definitely don't need to spend a fortune on baby items but there is huge pressure to have everything brand new and shiny. I tell you one thing, the baby certainly doesn't care and will throw up/pee/poo on everything anyway!!
wimbler · 21/01/2021 09:37

@Miniheart

Welcome *@NewMamma21*!

@Thisisbananas3 I’m week 9 tomorrow and my NHs scan is 11th Feb which will be exactly 12 weeks. I’m thinking about booking the private scan for next week - so week 10. So I think / hope I’ll be far enough along then only have two more weeks to wait.

I’ve also heard good things about the bbhugme - so pricey... but I also think that if it helps sleep and sees me through then probably a good investment. Haven’t bought anything yet, feeling weirdly that I should wait until my first scan.

I didn't buy anything until after the 20w scan with the exception of things to help my pregnancy. For me that's the big important scan
Alittlexmasmagic · 21/01/2021 09:59

I agree with everything @wimbler said!

I'd definitely recommend to do some research on prams as they are really quite personal. We have a Mountain Buggy which is great for us but would be terrible for urban living or anyone with a small/standard boot size.x

I am going to but furniture after 12 week scan as its a 13 week order time, however this is bedroom furniture we will need weather we have a baby or not, also will need a cot weather for this baby or not, as I will be a Mum no matter what!!!

But will wait for 20 weeks to buy all the baby specific stuff, e.g clothes and pram

Jessicapebbles · 21/01/2021 11:16

@ame88 Glad to help ☺️ I think mine are controlled by hormones but they are painless and seemed to improve with pregnancy! X

biscuitcat · 21/01/2021 11:52

I'm hoping to pick up lots of bits second hand, that will definitely help! I've also not bought anything yet (apart from paint for the room which will be the nursery as my husband has a quiet few weeks ahead with work and wants to get on with it!), I think after the scan I'll feel a bit more confident. And for some bits I'm hoping that the shops will reopen as I'd like to buy in person rather than online!

@Alittlexmasmagic I wonder if that might be a good pram for us to look at, we live out in the countryside and spend all our time tramping around muddy woods with the dog! Would it be good for that do you think?

Thisisbananas3 · 21/01/2021 11:56

Second hand it is!!! (Apart from the obvious of course!) but if they outgrow everything I don’t see the point in new fancy stuff! I hope if I get to the point where I can look at prams itll be safe enough for shops to be open.

Have you guys been monitoring your weight at all? I’m still lighter than my pre pregnancy weight owing to sickness and food aversions, probably not something so worry about at this stage? Also heartburn kept me up for ages last night, really thought that wouldn’t hit me til much later on!

@Champson I’m sure they’ll be able to fit you in, I’ve seen a few threads where the scan was booked at the booking appointment for the following week- hopefully that will be the case for you too!

BertieBotts · 21/01/2021 12:10

Defo defo you do not need to spend loads of dosh on baby stuff. Second hand is brilliant for most things as they outgrow them so quickly anyway. I've never spent more than £200 on a pram.

If anyone wants car seat advice I'm your girl :o

I've made a new thread as this one is going to lock soon. Find it here:

August 2021 - Scans and booking in

winnie3838 · 21/01/2021 14:13

Hi everyone,

I'm pregnant with my first baby (due very end of July but i am sure baby will likely arrive in Aug). I am just coming up to 13wks.

Haven't had my nhs scan yet, the app. is next week but we had a couple of early scans as i had actually started IVF and was a few days in to taking the IVF drugs when we found out we had already conceived naturally! Such a miracle. Because i will be almost 14wks by the time i have my first scan on the nhs and because i am 38yrs old we decided to go private and have the NIPT test for Down's/Edwards & Patau which were all negative and we also found out the sex 💗It is all feeling very real now!

Look forward to connecting with you all.

VWLolabunny9119 · 21/01/2021 14:28

My pregnancy app and all the information I read about my stage of the pregnancy 13w says that I'll be feeling really horny at the moment and basically gagging for it but I'm really not at all. Can anyone please tell me I'm not the only one? And yes I do find my DH very sexy and typically would bang very happily and often.

LyraShaeLilly · 21/01/2021 16:11

@winnie3838

How to you find out the sex so early? Is there a separate test to the 12 week scan?

winnie3838 · 21/01/2021 16:23

Hey @LyraShaeLilly yes, instead of the combined test the nhs test do with the 12 week scan you can pay private to have a DNA blood test known as a NIPT test (also know as a Harmony test i think) for Down's/Edwards & Patau, they can also tell the gender through the blood test too. The test can be done from 10wks. It is expensive though - we paid £450.

LyraShaeLilly · 21/01/2021 16:28

Thanks

Does the NHS test for Downs routinely?

winnie3838 · 21/01/2021 16:30

@LyraShaeLilly yes, but you can opt out of it. Had you had your midwife appointment - she should have gone over that with you :)
