Is around who's due in April 2021? How are you feeling?

I was in a thread on here in early pregnancy, dropped off when I joined the buddies Facebook group, I'm still in it but its not really for me.... I miss having a place to go to chat pregnancy though.

OP posts:

Same! Practically counting down the hours til next friday. And then keeping everything (incl legs) crossed that I get a few clear weeks of wind down time before sprog arrives. Feel I could use the break to mentally (and practically) prepare....

Do people have their hospital bags packed yet? It's my plan this weekend. Will be 36 weeks. I think I have most stuff but it's just in a disorganised pile at the moment!

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 09/03/2021 11:39

I'm hoping to start mat leave after the Easter weekend too, yet to clear it with work though, so that may end up being a pipe dream! I'm so uncomfortable with this PGP that I'm hoping for at least a week or two of time off work to relax. As much as you can relax with a 3yo.

I'm not at the bag packing stage yet, but everything is in a big box in the spare room ready to be organised and packed.

Had a midwife apt this morning and whilst baby is measuring bang on the tape measure midwife wonders if there is a lot of fluid around her. There was with my first, and my waters gushed out like Niagara Falls! So going for a scan next week to find out.

You might need a bit more than in pre-covid times though. I was in for several days with my first baby as she was in NICU. Then I could send DH home to pick up bits. Now my hospital is saying to bring everything you'll need as DH can only leave to go to the carpark and not outside the hospital grounds, or he won't be allowed back in. I've no idea how they police this, but that's what we've been told. I'm thinking of packing 2 bags, one for things baby and I will need for a one night stay, and another to be left in the car containing more changes of clothes, nappies etc that I'll need if we're in for longer than a night.

Catlady21 · 09/03/2021 15:32

Mine is all packed bar any snacks. As mentioned above, I have been told hubby cannot leave or he won't be allowed back so making sure I have enough packed to keep him alive lol.

Ickli · 09/03/2021 15:44

If you haven't packed your bags, I'd personally recommend doing it ASAP.

I have one of the later due dates in this thread (right at the end of April) and thought I was being a bit over-prepared when I packed my bag at 31w. Then last week at 32w2 my waters broke (preterm premature rupture of membranes)so I had to rush to hospital. Fortunately labour hasn't started yet so hoping baby will hang on in there a bit longer. The monitoring showed baby and I are doing ok, so I've been discharged. But I was really grateful I had my bag packed as it saw me through a 3 day hospital stay and I felt a little bit more comfortable knowing I had my stuff. I'm now waiting (with many more checkups) to see if labour will start spontaneously- if it doesn't I'll be induced at 37w.

All in all it's been a weird few days. Hopefully none of your babies are as eager to escape womb lockdown as mine - but I'd still recommend packing those bags!

tinatsarina · 09/03/2021 15:52

I haven't done my bag yet had my growth scan today and baby's ok put weight on since the last scan so no need to induce.

flappityflippers1 · 09/03/2021 16:07

Hope you’re ok @Ickli

Baby’s bag is packed, most of my bits are together and packing it properly this week. I ended up at hospital Saturday night for reduced movements, and felt very unprepared! Only a week and a half to go for us though, so should probably get my shot together!

MinnieWebs · 09/03/2021 16:28

Hope you’re doing ok @Ickli

I’ve got a bag packed for me and baby that would last a couple of days. I just need to put some snacks in it. Does anyone have any good snack suggestions? I was thinking flapjacks, some graze pouches and something sweet.

BaaHumbugg · 09/03/2021 16:58

Crisps and cereal bars, some dried fruit to help things going on down there, and all the chocolate you can fit in! Good that it's nearly Easter as I will reward myself for surviving this pregnancy with all the Easter eggs I can eat Grin

snack wise Im planning the same as I would for a 100mile bike ride....so Banana, flap jack, jelly babies, jam and Philadelphia sandwiches 😋 Crisps also a good shout! Also taking a tube of energy tablets to put in my water to replenish electrolytes
I think I'll pack my bag this weekend or next, want to paint the nursery and still washing clothes. I have most things in a drawer ready. 35w yesterday.
Also had weird belly ache last night, Ive never really had period cramps, so maybe thats what they were, just belly cramps? Thought Id catch another bug, but glad I haven't!
10 days left at work 🥳💚
@ickli hope everything is ok!

How many baby outfits have you all packed? Going for 2x up to 7.5lbs and 2x up to 10lbs.... (outfit being a babygrow and a vest) then a hat, cardigan and blanket

blodyn91 · 09/03/2021 17:51

@Handsoffstrikesagain Im a FTM so just assumed you need food if you are in for hours. Also you need energy right?

I couldn't keep anything down in labour other than lucozade sport and water so that's all that's packed in my bag this time around! (11 hour labour) On the other hand I know someone who was labouring for 4 days and lived on toast the whole time. Best to be prepared for anything if it's your first time I suppose, labour is a great big unknown!

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 09/03/2021 19:40

Wow @Ickli hope you're ok, what a worry for you. Glad you were well prepared.

I've packed some of those little porridge pots and cereal bars for post-birth. I ate nothing during my first birth from the time I went in to the time she came out, approx 12h. Just couldn't stomach anything. The midwife gave me honey water for energy. Yuck.

I'm going for 4 baby outfits too, can't imagine I'll be in for more than 4 days and at the beginning they don't tend to have explosive poops or anything...unlike the months that follow!

Catlady21 · 09/03/2021 19:41

I've never eaten during labour either. First was 5hrs, second was 2hrs and my contractions were back to back instantly. No time or inclination to eat anything. After though, I was famished!!

I’ve packed a good 10-12 babygrows, then vests, and a cardigan - we’re likely to be in for a good few days and I always like to take way more than needed.

The tea and toast after DS’s birth made me cry 🙈 I was sooooo looking forward to this much fabled right of passage. But due to the GA section, my throat was agony and I couldn’t eat or swallow anything 😭😭

Really hoping I can enjoy it this time!

Has anyone heard if visiting rules might be relaxed by mid April? I realise all trusts have different rules, but they are all restricted in various ways at the moment... I'm really hoping that things loosen up a bit so my husband can visit for longer - but perhaps that's overly optimistic!
