Is around who's due in April 2021? How are you feeling?

I was in a thread on here in early pregnancy, dropped off when I joined the buddies Facebook group, I'm still in it but its not really for me.... I miss having a place to go to chat pregnancy though.

@Inkpaperstars thanks, my 38 weeker had to go under the lamps for jaundice I just keep thinking if it was anything really serious they would have said something by now

Catlady21 · 05/03/2021 19:20

My first was 37 weeks and she was 6lb 3. I had to stay in for 12 hours as she needed her blood sugars checking due to my GD but aside from that she didn't need any extra care.

@Catlady21 that's really encouraging to hear! Could I ask if that was a c section?

We've been told we will be in for at least 2 nights, but the one thing sticking in my mind now is the midwife saying "we like them to drink 30ml each feed to get their weight up, but baby doesn't know that, so feeding can be a battle with them!"

It's starting to play on my mind as although I'm not breastfeeding, I feed on demand (expressed milk) and really disagree with overstretching their tummies (surely that applies to bottle feeding in general, not just formula?!)

I will be questioning the need of course, but wondered at your experience with feeding/midwife pressure?

Catlady21 · 05/03/2021 20:24

@flappityflippers1 No she was a natural spontaneous birth. I didn't have any pressure to feed. I was bf but had trouble (later a tongue tie was diagnosed) and I was regularly offered formula top ups if needed. All the midwives were concerned with was wet nappies. They never said it had to be a certain amount and like you say, you should never force feed a baby so stick to your guns!

Thanks both, much appreciated! I will stick to my guns for sure! I'm glad to hear that didn't happen with you both, hopefully just an 'off' midwife!

Ahh... I will speak to DH and make sure we're totally united in the "don't force feed our child front" - it's really starting to spike the anxiety just from that one throwaway comment from the MW Sad (I have PNA)

Thank you @Handsoffstrikesagain 🙏 they know feeding is a touchy subject with me anyway (caused no end of issues with DS!) I’ll have a chat with DH x

Catlady21 · 05/03/2021 21:26

I've had the same midwife for all three pregnancies now and she is just lovely and supportive. She will ask me once how I'm intending to feed and then never mentions it again. As long as I'm happy with my decision she doesn't seem bothered.

I've been lucky with the hospital midwives too after giving birth. Again no pressure from them just lots of support. I've heard stories of awful ones though and as a first time mum you need someone on your side to support you to stand up for yourself.

BaaHumbugg · 05/03/2021 22:17

I've never had any pressure from midwifes r.e. feeding either, I think they advised me to feed on demand as I was formula feeding and that was it.

I did get one midwife telling me not to use a dummy in hospital with my daughter though, which I found odd as I thought they were good for SIDS etc, I went ahead and ignored her anyway Grin

LucieStar · 05/03/2021 22:19

Is anyone else having sort of mild period cramps? I'm 34 weeks tomorrow

@flappityflippers1 my niece was born at 36 weeks, around 6lb, maybe an oz above! It was c section and she didn’t need any extra care.

flappityflippers1 · 06/03/2021 06:55

Thanks all for the support 🙏 it’s my second and I’m usually my best advocate but feeding trauma/anxiety still trips me up 🙈

I’ve done some anxiety management last night and have put it to the back of my mind - I’ll deal with it IF it happens and assert a firm “no, we feed on demand” x

LucieStar · 06/03/2021 08:39

@Handsoffstrikesagain

Braxton hicks can feel a bit like that lucie but always best to drop your midwife a message to check x

MW said not to worry unless I'm bleeding. But the pains really have been quite difficult to ignore these past few days and different to the Braxton hicks I'm used to (I'm used to tightenings and discomfort across my bump, but this is actual pain). Confused

tinatsarina · 06/03/2021 09:15

@LucieStar can you time them to see if there's a pattern incase it is the real deal. Sometimes my Braxton Hicks can be quite sharp but then it does eventually fade

flappityflippers1 · 06/03/2021 10:53

I second @tinatsarina - there are apps you can download to time them just to check if they're contractions.

drumst1ck · 06/03/2021 13:10

@LucieStar definitely time them to keep an eye on it! Although with my first I had painful contraction type things every single evening for about three weeks before she was born! Every night I thought it might be labour and then it would die off again. Just my body getting ready for labour and luckily it was fairly short once it got going!

Bojingle · 07/03/2021 23:40

@LucieStar I've been getting the noticeable period cramps. I didn't get anything last time so I'm hoping this is a good sign that my body is preparing for labour in a few weeks. I'm 35 weeks tomorrow Smile

What app do you all have for contraction timing? Not that I have anything to time just yet but may be good to predownload something

BaaHumbugg · 08/03/2021 08:12

I don't have an app but that might be a good idea! I hope you are feeling okay @luciestar.

I am really not looking forward to the birth now, think I have been in denial this whole time! I had to go to the hospital yesterday and now it's bought it all back, not good memories either haha!

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 08/03/2021 19:14

Hi ladies,

Hope you're all ok. Sorry to hear about the difficulties with cramps and the like, I remember having quite strong Braxton Hicks with my first towards the end.

I'm really struggling with pelvic pain this time around, I use a support belt when walking but I've resigned myself to staying home as it's an effort just going up and down the stairs, and if I'm being honest it's painful even lifting my foot up to walk on level ground. Feel like I'm really struggling! There's no physios nearby that have any availability and nothing I can take for it. I'm 33 weeks. Wondering whether this could be a reason for booking me in for an ELCS earlier than 39 wks? I'm having an ELCS anyway, but wondering when. I speak with the consultant next week. I'm just desperate to get this baby out tbh but I know 39 weeks is considered optimal.

1sttimemumtobe2021 · 09/03/2021 09:06

Good luck with speaking to your consultant @TheViewOutsideMyWindow.

Who is on the countdown for finishing work now? Less than two weeks before mat leave for me and I cannot wait! It's been quite full on up til now so I'd really like a rest!

clb8921 · 09/03/2021 10:06

I’m definitely on countdown but still have 4 weeks of work to go! 🥴 I just need to make it to Easter and then the end is finally in sight. Can’t come soon enough.
