Is around who's due in April 2021? How are you feeling?

I was in a thread on here in early pregnancy, dropped off when I joined the buddies Facebook group, I'm still in it but its not really for me.... I miss having a place to go to chat pregnancy though.

Has anyone here had a previous ELCS? And if so, how long did they keep you in hospital for? Had a consultant apt today and was told 24h is the norm, if there are no complications, but interested to hear how others got on as most of my friends have had vaginal births or emergency c sections. Having an ELCS this time around after major birth trauma with my first (vaginal) birth and wondering what to expect.

BaaHumbugg · 03/02/2021 23:14

@Doritodiva afraid not, only swimming helped and not like you can do that right now Sad

@Unicornandsparkles my friend had an elcs for her second and was in for one night only I think, "for one night only" haha!

Yes I don't eat too late either and eat little and often, I think when the baby stops moving around I feel more uncomfortable as she's kind of wedged in one positon. Oh well almost at the end of another week at least!

Wavesandsmilesencore · 04/02/2021 19:19

I’m getting heartburn here and rib pain also, still haven’t started to organise my hospital bag(s), partly as I first have to translate parts from french.
I had my scan to check the growth last night and it seems concerns were totally unfounded. Amazing experience to see him so clearly with what already look like chubby cheeks!

Amazing pic Waves what a cutie

Those little cheeks Grin

What a fantastic photo waves

I'm starting to gather bits for my hospital bag. I'm unsure what to do about nightwear. Where are you all buying from?

I don't usually have nighties, last time I went to primark and picked up a couple cheap. I don't want to spend a fortune because they either get manky and go in the bin, or I won't wear them anyway. I'm considering not taking a nightie and just getting some nursing friendly pjs to change into after birth.

doritodiva · 04/02/2021 20:00

@BoJingle I've packed an over sized Tshirt with pj bottoMs and then a long Tshirt with leggins to leave in. I doubt I'll even get round to wearing them though. I'll happily leave in pjs.

MrsG30 · 04/02/2021 21:31

Hi all,

I’m so happy to see this thread! I was gutted a fb group was set up as I’m not on fb.

I’m 30 weeks (31 on sat) with my second - I have a DS who is 3 ❤️ Expecting another beautiful little boy this time 😍

DS was born small with placenta issues by crash section, this baby seems to be going same way with growth so looking likely my elective section will be early.

Haven’t read the whole thread but seen a few mentions of hospital bags - I can’t remember when is a good time to pack! I had thought about 34 weeks but perhaps best to start getting stuff together now.

Saw about nightwear - I have a maternity jumpsuit that is actually sleepwear so will have that in hospital (it’ll be loose around scar but keeps legs covered, frigging hate nighties!). Will also use feeding vests with up to my tits PJ bottoms 😂

Planning to exclusively pump this time after horrible bfing experience last time, no desire to try it again, totally forgot I would still need to consider booby access! 😮🙈

UnicornAndSparkles · 05/02/2021 09:47

Welcome!

And what a gorgeous scan photo!

RE nightwear I've got some cheap stuff from pat pat which is feeding-friendly. I think it took 3 weeks to get delivered. Similar in quality to primark and the sizing seems fairly accurate. Agree some of it will end up going in the bin after the birth! First time around i packed white floral pjs...how naieve!

BoJingle · 05/02/2021 10:24

White floral 🙈😂 @UnicornAndSparkles I've never bought from patpat but I'll check it out. Oversized tshirt would work except what was oversized is now erm, tight 😂 I'm wearing alot of DPs tops atm around the house but he's not a big guy so they aren't oversized either.

Welcome MrsG I'm expecting my second too. We already have a 2.5 DD and no idea what we're having this time.

BoJingle · 05/02/2021 10:26

Talking of DD, is anyone else who's having DC2 starting to feel guilty? I think the reality has set in that if they induce me, this baby could arrive next month and I feel sad that I will have to spread myself between two and she won't get 100%. She's the only child obviously but also only grandchild on both sides so I just hope it's not too much of a shock

Hi
I'm due mid April and wondering if anyone else is also experiencing this with their bump. Several times a day it gets really hard and solid, worse on one side, lasts a few minutes and is quite uncomfortable! Are these Braxton Hicks?

MrsG30 · 05/02/2021 11:08

The guilt hasn’t kicked in yet for me, but tbh it hasn’t quite kicked in that I’ll probably have a newborn in 6 weeks 😳

I think me, DH and DS are going to be in for a shock!

MrsG30 · 05/02/2021 11:11

@gretagreengrapes my bump has been doing that, I assumed it was baby sticking his bum out - I can’t remember anything from first time around so could well be BH 🙈

I got fanny daggers last night, totally forgot about those 😳

UnicornAndSparkles · 05/02/2021 11:29

My bump goes hard sporadically too, I think its very mild braxton hicks.

As for the guilt, no guilt here! My daughter (3.5yo) has been desperate for a sibling for over a year, to the point where she asked for one from santa in 2019...it wasn't even on the cards then! She does keep referring to bump as "her" baby though...so i wonder if she'll be ok once she realises she can't do everything she does with her baby doll with the real baby! Have you thought about getting your youngest a doll to look after prior to baby being born? Also i find giving them some responsibility really helps; she's in charge of getting nappies and wipes set up, folding babys clothes etc.

clb8921 · 05/02/2021 11:44

I have also been experiencing some strange feelings with bump. They really don’t last long though - literally 5 seconds! I assumed it was the baby shifting around and pushing against me. Kind of feels a bit tingly. Not sure these would be Brixton hicks though with them being so short-lived?

YouToMeAreEverything · 05/02/2021 17:01

Hello all, namechange as appear to have been locked out of my Unicorn account and not sure how to fix. Hope you all have lovely weekends!

LuckyFlash · 05/02/2021 17:53

I get a hard bump too - often in the evening. Also assumed it was him sticking his head or bum out! No idea what to look for in terms of Braxton hicks to be honest.

Can any STMs shed any light on what size clothes to take to the hospital? I know everyone differs, just not sure what to plan for. Currently anything I have bought that is maternity with the rouched sides is way too big and unflattering. 9 weeks to go though so I’m thinking they will fit by the end. But then I’m wondering whether I should plan for still being 9 months pregnant size straight after birth or more like now in which case just T-shirt’s a couple of sizes bigger than normal should be ok

flappityflippers1 · 05/02/2021 18:06

(name changed from MrsG30, probably not that outing a name but felt something more anon is prob best!)

In terms of sizing... first pregnancy I had lovely maternity clothes ( maternity jeans, nice tops etc) and couldn't wear any of them post birth due to c section as absolutely everything rubbed it. So I lived in maternity leggings, feeding vests and a long cardigan/long line t shirt.

This time I've spent the whole of pregnancy in maternity leggings and long line t shirts, and planning to wear those post birth as they avoid my section scar completely.

So for sizing, you'll still have a bump, mine took about 3 weeks to go down I think, but it got smaller each day. So maternity clothes for hospital I would say - what you have now (a few sizes bigger) sounds good.

BaaHumbugg · 06/02/2021 08:32

@bojingle I feel guilty that my DD is going to have to share us! She is nearly 5 so I'm worried about her world changing! Although everything is so up in the air at the moment with the pandemic I guess it's just another change to deal with.

I'm more worried about myself and dealing with a newborn, I feel like I've forgotten everything! Although I'm not sleeping now anyway so at least I'm prepared for that Grin

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 06/02/2021 16:08

Can I join please? I'm 29 weeks pregnant with little girl no.2, due at the end of April. Haven't started thinking about much in terms of babies arrival yet, although I have an apt to discuss birth plan with a consultant as last time almost ended up in an EMCS, and my midwife has suggested an elective could be a good option.

flappityflippers1 · 06/02/2021 16:54

@TheViewOutsideMyWindow hello! How old is your eldest?

I had a crash section with my first, so going elective this time :)

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 06/02/2021 16:58

Hi @flappityflippers1

My first is 3yo, will be almost 4 when baby arrives.

Any tips for considering an ELCS?

flappityflippers1 · 06/02/2021 17:09

@TheViewOutsideMyWindow My son is 3, 4 in November :)

I guess just weighing up the pros and cons of each? I hated the c section recovery as not good at sitting on my bum, but that's a trade off I'm willing to make this time.

I've gone for one purely because it was the closest I could get to guaranteeing that I will be awake for the birth - being put under GA with my first really bothered me that I didn't see him be born (totally necessary, we didn't know if he was alive getting rushed through, but it still bothered me!)

If you do opt for one, then practicality wise - it's up to your boobs knickers and bottoms that are well clear of your scar. Take a small towel to hold over your incision when you laugh/cough/move. Easy to put on shoes that you don't need to lean down to do, and keep everything you need to hand (inc baby haha!).

Make sure you pay close attention to what midwives etc tell you regarding recovery - I ignored them and was out for walks a week post section, did 3 miles 3 weeks post section and split my scar open. I didn't look after myself at all and have paid for it ever since!

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 06/02/2021 18:21

@flappityflippers1 sounds like a very difficult first experience, and painful having the scar opening. An ELCS definitely so sounds preferable! I'm hoping that with an older first child (4 in August) she'll understand I need to take it easy after the birth if I end up having a CS but like others have said I'm a bit worried about her being jealous of baby if I end up sat on the sofa breastfeeding 24/7 rather than playing with her. We'll only have 4 months of baby being here before she starts school, so that'll be an upheaval too. I'm hoping DH will be WFH for the foreseeable so I've got a bit more support at first, I'm really bad at relying on others to help.
