Is around who's due in April 2021? How are you feeling?

I was in a thread on here in early pregnancy, dropped off when I joined the buddies Facebook group, I'm still in it but its not really for me.... I miss having a place to go to chat pregnancy though.

Fortunately no heartburn here. None in my previous pregnancies either, and both came out with a head of hair! Maybe it's due to my GD diet?

I packed my bag at 35 weeks with my first, she arrived at 37 weeks. I had back to back contractions from the get go. My husband rang to say I was in labour and pushing. They said as it's my first it'll take hours and to take paracetamol and have a bath and to ring when the contractions were closer (not sure how they could have been closer than back to back!) I made him take me in anyway, my waters had gone and as I had fibroids I knew I had to get there asap.

Once there, they refused me on the labour ward until I'd been assessed at the pregnancy unit (heavily contracting) to check I was actually in labour. The pregnancy unit took me straight around to the labour Ward (without examining me) and there they found I was 7cm dilated. My daughter arrived 5hrs after my first contraction... so I luckily my bag was packed and waiting! Second child was only two hours...

I’ve made a start packing mine; just a few bits and pieces left to sort. I think it’s that FTM excitement though. My husband thought I was a bit keen, but I don’t work so boredom set in!

GreySkyClouds · 01/02/2021 14:48

Does someone have a hospital bag list, or have I missed it?

I started looking at one before but I think it had three different bags. One for mother, one for baby...and one to be kept in the car? So I stopped thinking about it :D

Ickli · 01/02/2021 15:55

I'm trying to hold off on packing my bag - definitely a bit of FTM excitement from me as I'm due at the end of April so still a way off!
I saw that lucyflow_yogabirth on Instagram ran a talk on packing hospital bags today, so I'm going to watch that tonight (I follow her as she has a nice pregnancy yoga programme plus other good info)

Rh8781 · 01/02/2021 16:31

@GreySkyClouds I just googled hospital bags for labour and sort of compiled a list from a few different ones I found online. I do have three bags Blush (one for labour and two for afterwards - my stuff and babies stuff which will stay in the car until needed) so it feels like a bit of overkill but I’ve read some women take in a wheely suitcase to make it a bit easier. The baby bag with nappies etc took up a whole bag which I wasn’t anticipating!

Does anyone ever find they have quieter days for movement? I’ve read about it but I don’t know if it’s actually a thing? Sometimes I find it hard to gauge what’s ‘normal’ for me! I’ve already been to the hospital for reduced movements at 28 weeks but looking back I don’t even know now whether it was or if it was just me being paranoid!

gretagreengrapes · 01/02/2021 16:40

@greyskyclouds Tommy's have a hospital bag list you can download from their website which seems quite succinct and sensible. I'm planning on taking a little wheelie cabin sized suitcase, easier than carrying and I've seen people at maternity triage with them.

I am due mid April but baby might be born anytime from 34 weeks so I am also thinking about getting things together now. I haven't bought baby a single item of clothing yet...

BoJingle · 01/02/2021 16:56

@Catlady21 you might be on to something there. I was just saying to DP last night that I barely have heartburn this time, last time it was horrendous! Last time I wasn't on a GD diet so perhaps it is that. Have they talked about inducing you? Sorry if you've already said, my brain is knackered at the moment.

I hate packing so the hospital bag will probably be left until 35/36 weeks. Last time I packed really light in a holdall type thing. This time I'm going for a suitcase. Not because I didn't have enough stuff but it was a nightmare to find anything after it had been rummaged through, moved from place to place etc. A suitcase which can fold open will be so much easier! I most definitely will not be doing 3 separate bags.

If its not on your list I recommend packing an eye mask. Hospital wards are never fully dark and it's so hard to sleep!

@Rh8781 yes I definitely have days of reduced movement. They are very different to the days around them as LO is normally incredibly active. I went in last night for that very reason as he'd barely moved all day - he'd have a little wriggle if I nudged him but only a small one. Normally he's kicking, punching and wriggling all the time without being prompted. When he was still barely moving even after dinner (usually his favourite time of day) I called the hospital. Everything was fine, and this was normal for him. No idea why yesterday was different - MW confirmed he was in the same position as usual - but I still think I did the right thing to go in and midwives were happy that I did. If someone tells you they have pain in their chest you don't say "it's probably just a muscle" even though it probably is just a muscle... so basically you probably shouldn't worry but I think it's reasonable to get checked to rule out any problems.

Hahaha, I’m due mid April and we haven’t bought any clothing yet either. I’m laughing because it’s good to know I’m not alone.

I’m trying not to over buy things so Amazon prime will be useful for th4 n4xt few months I think.

Off to download the list...

Yes! Some days I feel kicking all the time. Other days I have to lie down and concentrate (and then it’s more twisting rather than kicks/punches). I don’t know what’s normal and haven’t identified a pattern (29 weeks)

JTB123 · 01/02/2021 19:58

Oh my god my heartburn/acid is BADDDD too.
I've got a huge bottle of Gaviscon on prescription every 3 weeks with the drs!
So definitely worth contacting them to ask for a prescription over the phone if you're struggling x

This is the list I've been using to gather bits for my hospital bag!!
Hopefully it posts ok, posted blurry below!! X

Inkpaperstars · 01/02/2021 21:52

I am 31 weeks soon and haven’t identified any pattern of movement, also haven’t purchased a single thing yet! If it’s any comfort Grin

Inkpaperstars · 01/02/2021 21:53

Btw I am on Omeprazole for acid reflux and it’s good stuff.

LuckyFlash · 02/02/2021 08:19

I thought I had identified a pattern but it’s gone out of the window this week after one day of not much and then the last two days of him going absolutely mad in there. Kicks, rolls, stretches, vibrations, the works. It feels like he has about 8 limbs as I’m being poked from every angle lol.
Does anyone get a head or a bum (can’t tell which) sticking out in a hard lump a lot? He often does this either to the right of my belly button (which feels like a weird place) or just under my ribs which makes it hard to sit down as my ribs are then pushed up...

I have made a list for hospital but will probably pack it around 35 weeks. DH and I did have a fun day of virtual shopping at the weekend though and ordered most of the big stuff we need like the pram. Also got way too involved in clothes bundle auctions on eBay. It’s going to be a cute week of packages!

GreySkyClouds · 02/02/2021 09:18

I get a hard lump either side of my belly button. Had a scan last week and I now know that the smaller bump is her bum and the larger one...is her feet! I’m surprised as I thought it was a bum or head and it doesn’t look like the shame of a foot or leg.

Doesn’t go as far as my ribs, thankfully.

GreySkyClouds · 02/02/2021 09:19

Shape not shame

BlueberryPancake21 · 02/02/2021 10:35

I can't tell what is what at all! All I can tell is that there's a big lump in the middle and that's the baby. I'd really like a look inside! I never get any movement or anything up near my ribs so thought he was wrong way round but MW says he's head down and his back is to my front, he's just really low already.

Think I might pack hospital bag this weekend (32 weeks) just so it's done. And because while I'm packing it I will realise all the things I am missing and need to buy. One thing a friend recommended that I hadn't thought of was some straws - she said it helped that she could have a bit of water easily without having to move.

No, no word of being induced. If I remember correctly from my previous pregnancies, I was told I'd be induced around 38 weeks if my GD become medicated.

doritodiva · 03/02/2021 09:12

Does anyone get any pain in their ribs when lying down on either side? It's preventing me from sleeping. I'm having to sleep propped up on my back.

BaaHumbugg · 03/02/2021 10:38

@Doritodiva I did in my previous pregnancy and turned out to be my gallbladder, it was horrible! You have my sympathy!

I find I just can't get comfortable anymore, especially towards the end of the day, sorry I sound like a broken record haha! I think it's harder in lockdown as there is less to distract yourself from the horrors of being pregnant!

doritodiva · 03/02/2021 15:39

@BaaHumbugg was there anything you could do to help the pain?

JTB123 · 03/02/2021 18:57

@BaaHumbugg Ergh I find this too, I do really find that the later I eat, the more uncomfortable I am!
So I've had my tea now and probs won't eat anything major or at all before bed now.. and i find I'm soooo less uncomfortable!
Maybe worth a shot, see if it helps?

UnicornAndSparkles · 03/02/2021 20:23

@BaaHumbugg you're not alone there! 28 weeks and already feeling so uncomfortable in the evenings. I eat with my 3yo at 5.30pm and am in bed by 9pm as I'm more comfortable laying on my side. The later I eat the more uncomfortable I get!
