Is around who's due in April 2021? How are you feeling?

I was in a thread on here in early pregnancy, dropped off when I joined the buddies Facebook group, I'm still in it but its not really for me.... I miss having a place to go to chat pregnancy though.

Such a different experience being pregnant during a pandemic too. We did NCT first time around and still speak to my girl group daily. This time it feels so disconnected and isolating. A couple of friends are pregnant but at different stages to me and due later in the year.

Inkpaperstars · 06/02/2021 18:26

Sorry if this has been mentioned before and I missed it, but how are you all doing picking names? I am still struggling to think of one that we like and doesn’t have some kind of issue with it.

BaaHumbugg · 06/02/2021 18:31

Welcome @theviewoutsidemywindow, 29 weeks here too!

@inkpaperstars I haven't got a clue with names, struggled with my DD too!

flappityflippers1 · 06/02/2021 18:37

@TheViewOutsideMyWindow it was great, and the first 10 weeks or so were horrific with feeding issues etc, but it’s been ok since that got sorted.

I’m a little worried about my DS feeling left out also, but hubby has demanded I’m on bed rest the first week at least (he knows me way too well haha) and we’re lucky he has 3 weeks off work to watch DS and entertain him. We also won’t stop DS coming up to see me and baby whenever he wants to and planning on having books to read with him etc. I’m sure we’ll muddle through 🙂

I had planned on rota-ing in my mum, mother in law and sister in law so I had someone with me each day for the first 6 weeks but Covid has put a stop to that 🙄

Try and accept help where you can - be warned though you get used to it! I had HG for the first 21 weeks and offloaded all clothes washing to mum and MIL, they’re still helping now (they both love to though) but gosh I’m going to miss that when it stops!

flappityflippers1 · 06/02/2021 18:37

It’s wasn’t great*

Oh my goodness yes! Our NCT seems non existent around here, but I met a load of mums on a competitor site to mumsnet, and we started a WhatsApp group - we still have it now and talk daily.

I never did baby groups with DS as struggled with MH and couldn’t face them, but really hoping they’re back fairly soon as would like to attend this time!

flappityflippers1 · 06/02/2021 18:43

@Inkpaperstars our 3yo DS has chosen baby’s name - we couldn’t decide on anything at all and hubby vetoed the only one I really loved. Happy with what DS has picked though and goes lovely with his name ❤️

DS is Alfie (Alfred), and he’s chosen Ollie (Oliver)

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 06/02/2021 18:58

I really need to get better at accepting help, it makes me feel so uncomfortable having someone else do washing etc for me, other than DH, and he can't do it all. I'm guessing I'll be bed-bound for a bit after a CS too so may have to get a childcare bubble set up. We're lucky that both sets of parents live close by, but neither are hands on helpers; it was my best friend who was the only one to bring us a meal after baby 1, and she lived 40 miles away! Im making a point of batch cooking this time around!

blodyn91 · 06/02/2021 19:05

Heyy all, haven't posted in about a month! But things are getting exciting now I feel. Spent the past hour reading and catching up. Can't remember who to tag though sorry 🙈

First NCT classes....so I haven't signed up for anything that costs 😆 I've joined in with a few free online courses on bf and bathing/nappy changing and feel quite prepared. Do I need to pay for a class? I live in the country so no local ones, so won't meet anyone really.

Im also moving house on the 19th of Feb! Very excited but means all baby stuff are just in boxes and house is currently upside down!

Re hospital bag, I have a drawer I've been chucking things into, will pack a bag in March- something to look forward to doing.

My travel system arrived yesterday, took a month to arrive! Good old brexit/covid delays!

Movements wise, mine is just rolling around now, can just watch my belly rumbling away. Also feel a big hard lump, with bum or head, and also getting that hard belly thing- braxton hix 🤷🏼‍♀️

31 week appointment Monday, measured just above 50th centile at 28 week scan. Also had my anti D, most lain free injection Ive ever had!

Ive also had a covid antibody test, that came back positive, which im glad about, hoping baby has a tiny amount of immunity now 🤞

Lastly 😄 someone mentioned belly brace....ive got a baby go one and its amazing!!! I can walk 7miles now! Its a huge relief having it hold my belly up. It has a strap under then over the belly.

Hope everyones well ☺️ Im finding it very lonely, but trying to enjoy this last 10 weeks!

Inkpaperstars · 06/02/2021 19:34

@BaaHumbugg I am kind of glad it isn’t just me. I flick through the name book just going, ‘no, no, nice but we can’t because relative has that name, no, no, nice but nickname awful, no, no’. I haven’t seen one that I really like or that feels right. There is one name I might have felt that way about and might still use but it is really popular now which puts me off a bit.

Those names are lovely @flappityflippers1, I think there’s nothing nicer than your little one naming his brother too!

JTB123 · 06/02/2021 20:27

@blodyn91 I'm moving on the 19th feb also, so feel your pain with the boxes 😂😂 the back pain is real packing everything!!!

SunnySideUp2020 · 06/02/2021 20:32

@blodyn91

Can you share the free classes on bathing/nappy changing?

Anyone got recommendations for baby handling tutorial as well?

First time parents. We haven't got a clue. No babies around us. No antenatal classes, and we moved out of UK last year.

SunnySideUp2020 · 06/02/2021 20:33

So worried we won't know how to hold her and care 😔

flappityflippers1 · 06/02/2021 20:57

@SunnySideUp2020 as long as they’re not upside down you’re doing good!

Perhaps YouTube some videos for “tiger in tree hold” which is good if they’re colicky, otherwise just make sure their head is supported and you’re all good 👌

Honestly your instincts will just kick in and you’ll know what to do - I’ve been useless with babies all my life and managed to drag one up so far 😁

BoJingle · 06/02/2021 21:18

@sunnysideup2020 Everyone says it so its such a cliche but you really do just know what to do with your baby.

With DD, I'd sent DP home, it was about 11pm and I realised that she needed her nappy changing and I had never changed a nappy before. I hadn't even dressed her because I didn't feel great when she was first born. We got there eventually though😂

Hi everyone,
Have been following this thread, but posting for the first time!
I’m 31 weeks and have been having growth scans every 4 weeks.
I haven’t had my fundal height measured yet, not once. Anyone else experienced this?
Thanks!

P.S describe how you feel when you sneeze.. just curious!!

flappityflippers1 · 07/02/2021 07:21

@reimah I’ve only had mine done once, but if you’re having regular growth scans that may be why? They may also be trying to reduce contact due to Covid, but you can always request it to be done 🙂

The growth scans are more accurate than fundal height I believe

Honestly - when I sneeze I feel like my c sec scar is going to rip open 🤢

blodyn91 · 07/02/2021 07:59

@SunnySideUp2020 the free webinars are through the baby academy, really good, bf was 1 hour, baby care 2

blodyn91 · 07/02/2021 08:01

@reimah oh sneezing, can feel my weakened core muscles holding on for life 😣

BaaHumbugg · 07/02/2021 08:35

Sneezing is ok for me but if I laugh it really really hurts! Grin

1sttimemumtobe2021 · 07/02/2021 08:51

Would I be ok to join please? I noticed this group a few weeks ago. I'm due April 11th. Feeling a bit apprehensive about it all and completely not ready (total lack of guidance with antenatal classes from nhs I'm sure you'd all agree!). I didn't want to go for NCT, I do have friends that are due later in the year but also money wise, we are renovating so didn't have the spare cash. I feel anyone's pain who is living out of boxes as I am similar!

Btw we are super excited, it goes without saying - just really nervous and busy! A total mixture of emotions!

Thank you for the suggestions on the baby academy. I've bought a lot of stuff now and written a list. Also won't be doing the nursery until after birth (too much other stuff to do!) so I've eased some pressure there. Would you say 36 weeks is a good time to pack the hospital bag? I've also no idea about a birth plan, it's not been mentioned by my midwife yet. Should it have been?

blodyn91 · 07/02/2021 09:36

@1sttimemumtobe2021 I think 35 weeks is totally fine, Im just buying some bits each week to spread cost.
Since Im moving house, don't think I'll do the nursery till he has arrived either. Might try and start it, but not sure if painting and being heavily pregnant is wise 🤭

@JTB123 living out of boxes is fun isn't it. We had hoped to be in before Feb! My exercise ball has been deflating and the pump is in a box somewhere under another box 🙈 Can not wait to move though!

LuckyFlash · 07/02/2021 09:39

Welcome @1sttimemumtobe2021 I’m due on the 11th as well!

We have NCT online classes booked in March but this week just had an offer accepted on a house in a different city an hour away! Providing all goes well with our chain we will probably be moving only a couple of weeks after he’s born and now I’m really starting to stress about it. Having never had a baby I have no idea what I’m going to feel like. DH has a grand plan of doing it all with the movers and having a couple of rooms set up for mine and baby’s arrival but I think it will be really hard and I hate the idea of not being in a familiar comfortable place so soon after giving birth. I guess we will just have to adapt and cope for long term gain though. I’m in limbo too as to whether To switch my NCT classes to the new town or not. I’d hate to move them and then our sale fall through! What have I taken on... 🙈

1sttimemumtobe2021 · 07/02/2021 11:05

@blodyn91 and @LuckyFlash , we are all as mad as each other it seems! You'll make it work, just try to have a realistic goal in mind for the diy. We ripped the back of our house out and did a kitchen extension so just before Christmas we had our kitchen in our bedroom, microwave meals all the time and about one room that wasn't covered in dust haha!

With the painting, I think water based is fine but not gloss etc. And just keep rooms well ventilated.

We had a bit of a splurge this weekend but we are doing the same - just bit by bit. Everyone says 'oh don't worry about clothes you'll get loads'. When? I can't see anyone haha. So we have bought 7 sleepsuits and that's it. We then have enough for hospital and a few days. Then when we are back if we have no clothes, will order online. I'm expecting vouchers from work so going to put that towards a cot. If we get anything else from people then I may just ask for vouchers so I can put forwards feeding equipment/nursery.

With feeding, I don't know about you guys but I'm just going to see how it goes. I have a steriliser and bottles as I'd like to express if bf. my mum couldn't bf with me so I just want to see how I am in hospital and then do an Amazon order when I get home either for a pump or a tommee tippee prep machine. You guys thinking similar?

LuckyFlash · 07/02/2021 11:32

Yes luckily all the new house needs is painting and carpets, no major work so hopefully we can get it decent quite quickly (and fingers crosses recruit some family help if restrictions get better by April!)

We have bought a load of sleep suits and onsies off eBay - there are some great bundles for only a couple of quid. I imagine we will get some clothes gifted but people tend to buy bigger sizes to grow into or impractical cute outfits when I imagine all you want is a rotation of practical onsies to start!
