@Asianchick6693 @Jellycat2020
I'm so sorry you are both feeling like this. You're both amazing and It's a massive shock to the system having a new baby especially when things don't go the way you expected.
Advice from the professionals is so conflicting it makes it very hard for mums to know what to do. This is my third baby and I'm struggling too more than I thought I would.
I do suffer from anxiety but came off medication in January to try to conceive but I'm back on it now. I'm not struggling with bonding with the baby my issue is I won't let anyone else near her, she's too small and precious and I'm constantly watching her. I had a Moses basket for her at the side of the bed and I was just constantly sat up watching her cause I was scared she was choking so my husband has bought us one of the side sleeper cots and it's made me a lot more settled so I'm sleeping better too xx

With regards to the feeding, I know I'm not producing as much milk as I was, but I've not been eating and drinking properly so I'm pumping more with the electric pump and bottle feeding her abit more because yesterday it was every hour. I'm not turning to formula just yet.
My HV and midwife told me that mixing breast milk and formula isn't great for their tummy's as formula is harder to digest so that may not be helping with the grunting. Does she cry??
Nora doesn't cry or look in pain she just grunts and brings her legs up but last night she wasn't bad at all. She's pooing more but that may be down to my antibiotics.
Last night was the best night I've had with her she went from 9pm till 1.40am then 4am and I've just fed her now. It's amazing how much better I feel today having a half decent nights sleep.
Try and get as much sleep as you can in the day when baby sleeps, housework can wait. I find power naps help me.
It does get easier, your body is still recovering from childbirth, that and a mix of hormones and lack of sleep is not ideal ❤️❤️

For those of you with babies, I'm having a little panic at a few stupid thoughts - I have the most well behaved, amazing golden retriever who is our little fur baby! But I know you should never leave babies and dogs together alone. So my question is, when my husband is out, how do I shower, go to the loo etc when it's just me, baby and dog? Do you think I need to buy a bouncer to bring with me to the bathroom every time just so they aren't left alone together? Just to reiterate, my dog is so well behaved and gentle but she's also very curious and loves babies so can imagine her wanting to get close to the baby, especially when I'm not there.

@LRHRN thank you.. it's hard to not feel like a failure. I think before I was giving her the cold ready made formulas that already come in the bottle. Since I've been making the one with the powder she has been grunting less. Also went for a poo a couple of times more last night. It seems like the infacol has helped with the wind as she is burping/passing wind more frequently.

She doesn't cry when she grunts but yesterday morning it was so loud that she was turning Red and ended up coughing a couple of times. She was also being really fussy last night. She breastfeeds fine during the day but for some reason at night she won't latch properly and just fuss but when I give her the bottle she's fine. I'm still trying to figure her out. I gave her cuddles and tried to rock her to sleep but I had her in my arms for nearly an hour before she even closed her eyes. Just feel at a loss. Hope today is better. Registering her birth today so it's an excuse to get out the house as well which I haven't done for a while.

@danielasummer Could you put stair gates up & shut the dog out when you leave the room? That's what we've done. I would only do this if I'm going to be relatively quick, making a cuppa or quick toilet trip. For showering I have put my son in his bouncer in the bathroom, the steam worked wonders on his bunged up nose.

LRHRN · 07/12/2020 08:58

@Asianchick6693 Nora is the same and struggles latching properly at night so I've switched to express bottles.
You've got to do what's right for you and your baby and like you say it's all very new and you're still getting used to each other xx

Babyhope98 · 07/12/2020 09:51

Good luck @Kj1010 🌟

danielasummer · 07/12/2020 10:09

@kkr168 stair gates are a good idea, I think I have one somewhere. Will definitely be getting a bouncer as I've heard they are useful for showering. Thank you for your advice! x

Kj1010 · 07/12/2020 11:54

Hi ladies still waiting nerves going 10 to the dozen should be within the hour now I'm starving and thirsty but obvs cant eat anything yet or drink just want to have little man here safe and sound and eat lol aww @jalu47 I really hope things get moving for u soon xx

Amyyy1 · 07/12/2020 12:57

@Kj1010 Good luck, not much longer and your little one will be here in your arms!! X

@danielasummer I have 3 (very well behaved) dogs and we're going to be using a stair gate when my DP goes back to work for when I shower, need the loo etc 😊 If you don't already have one, you can get them for about £20 on amazon. They also do some nice retractable ones that aren't as bulky x

Nic2908 · 07/12/2020 14:18

@kj1010 you got this.

lc86 · 07/12/2020 14:24

@Kj1010 so exciting!!!! I've never been so nervous as I was for mine! Hopefully you're now cuddling your baby 🥰

lc86 · 07/12/2020 14:24

@danielasummer I second the retractable gate, it's amazing and what we use for our two dogs xx

lc86 · 07/12/2020 14:26

@LRHRN @Asianchick6693 what is with these babies and latching at night! I've already had to switch to a bottle for a night feed last night, we were using a syringe but it was taking so long and felt so frustrating! I just hope it doesn't interfere with his latch too much in the day as we have introduced it so early x

MySafeSpace · 07/12/2020 14:31

@lc86 my lil one is the same, we've opted for a bottle at night as otherwise he just uses me as a comforter for hours on end and during the early hours of the morning the pain gets too much let alone id quite like some sleep too

lc86 · 07/12/2020 14:34

@MySafeSpace definitely!! He slept 2-6 this morning after a bottle, I feel so much better for it today! xx

Asianchick6693 · 07/12/2020 15:12

@lc86 @MySafeSpace I think at night we make less milk too so that could be a factor. Who knows! Also what do you girls do when you're out? Are you comfortable breastfeeding in public or are you expressing? I have trouble expressing so took a bottle with formula but let's see if she needs it.

Pinktruffle · 07/12/2020 15:28

My DH has been back to work a week now and I'm really struggling. I feel guilty asking him to do stuff, especially at night as I know he has to get up and work in the morning and his work is pretty complex so he needs to be able to concentrate.

I chose to catch up on my sleep with he little one this morning so have just eaten my first meal of the day and now have a banging headache. I did manage to brush my teeth this morning but I'm yet to wash my face/shower/get dressed. Given the time I'm not sure there is even any point now.

Much love to everyone else that is struggling.

lc86 · 07/12/2020 15:35

@Asianchick6693 I haven't ventured out yet 😬 but I don't blame you. Do what feels right for you! I did manage to cover myself when my dad was here yesterday lol, felt very weird having my boob out with him in the room xx

lc86 · 07/12/2020 15:37

@Pinktruffle me and the baby stayed in bed until 12 today too 🙊

lc86 · 07/12/2020 15:38

@Pinktruffle luckily my husband gets 6 weeks off so can't imagine how you're feeling xx

Pinktruffle · 07/12/2020 15:54

@lc86 that makes me feel so much better! I'm glad I'm not the only one x
