@PurpleishDahlia Oh so exactly same! Yes DD 24th...

I researched and my area has a dedicated home birth team so I’ve emailed and you then talk to them and then get handed over to them for rest of preg, delivery and afterwards too. It would be the same 2 midwives out of possible 8, which would be amazing as that’s what I struggled with during first at the birth centre!

I’m in West Yorkshire, where are you?

lucieloos · 31/12/2020 18:51

@AlRRRR yes I still have all the usual midwife appts but also extra consultant ones and I will have to give birth on the consultant unit rather than the midwife led unit so i can have extra monitoring etc

Whywontitname · 31/12/2020 20:36

@AIRRR I’m in West Yorkshire too, did you just research and refer yourself? No ones really mentioned birth or anything to me yet the only thing I’ve been asked is which hospital I want to go to.

AlRRRR · 31/12/2020 21:36

@Whywontitname

Love the name haha I struggled
to get a name too hahaha

Yes, I just looked on mid yorkshire trust’s website and it came up, dedicated home birth’s team. I’m in Wakefield, so they cover Wakefield, Pontefract and Dewsbury :)

It said to send an email so I did and waiting for them reply :)

Whywontitname · 31/12/2020 22:52

@AIRRRR
I know he’s a pain trying to get something no one else has!

Ah I’m in Leeds I’ll have a look what it says on there, not sure if they’ll let me as I’m having to see a consultant but can’t hurt to ask! To be fair I’d prefer to go to pinderfields as I know it more but I’m north leeds so closer to the Leeds ones.

PinkPlantCase · 01/01/2021 01:00

@AIRRRR

I’m 17 weeks now, I told the midwife at my booking appointment and she got the home birth team to give me a call a few weeks later, we talked through the pros and cons and from them I decided to be ‘moved over’ to them for the rest of the pregnancy.

I’m seeing a consultant at 20 weeks to talk through how some existing medical conditions could impact on pregnancy/birth but Homebirth should still be possible. They might just have to put a plan in place for if I need anaesthetic if things go wrong.

Humpty11 · 01/01/2021 06:22

@Burningbenches @Lovethatjourneyforme @Nesski @Sitchervice and everyone else who’s replied about heartburn. I hope we all find something to help soon! I haven’t tried Rennie so might see if I can get hold of those to try! I really fancy a nice cold drink of something fizzy but I know I’ll regret it so much once I’ve drank it and the acid is making me feel worse again!

@Nesski I hope it eases up soon for you, if not definitely speak to the GP as @burningbenches has said.

Happy New Year everyone 🥳

AlRRRR · 01/01/2021 07:15

@PinkPlantCase ah okay!

So even though you’ve been transferred to their care can you go to a birth centre or hospital, whatever when the time comes?

I’m midwife led and no complications (so far) or previous health issues so hoping a home birth is suitable.

My friend recently did it and my mum did it with my brother (the 2nd baby)

AlRRRR · 01/01/2021 07:17

@Whywontitname Just put a search into google for home births leeds and they may also have a team! Not sure if the Wakefield one covers Leeds but you can always email them and ask, maybe they’ll put you in touch with Leeds?

Failing that you just ask your midwife at your next app, have you got one at 16 wks? :)

PinkPlantCase · 01/01/2021 10:50

@AIRRRR I don’t know if you can transfer to midwife led unit at any point, I know that hospital is always an option but I didn’t think you could swap to midwife led unit at the last minute. Maybe fine a few weeks/months in advance and probably depends on your area.

They might only say that because when you’re in labour most of the options that you can have at home are the same as what you can have in the midwife lead unit so people don’t transfer there if they aren’t getting on well at home, they go straight to hospital.

So far as being ‘allowed’ to have a Homebirth the midwife explained to me that they aren’t there to decide if they’ll let me have one or not. They advise you of the pros and cons and then at this stage anyway it’s 100% your choice Grin

I didn’t know if I’d have to wait until after my consultant appointment to be told if I was ‘allowed’ but ultimately I understand the conditions I’ve lived with for years far more than the obstetrician that I will see for 10 minutes. Regardless of what they say I’ll still want a home birth.

Nellle · 01/01/2021 14:00

I'm in West Yorkshire too and would prefer a midwife unit to hospital. No one has mentioned birth to me at all. I've not even met my midwife.

Feeling a bit anxious and out on a limb to be honest. Having no notes from my scan, not met midwife and 16 week appointment only over phone... Plus about to head back into the classroom to teach this term. I think it's getting to me a bit.

Wish baby boy would do a noticeable back flip or something - that would cheer me up!

swiftt · 01/01/2021 14:14

I’m so tempted to order a pram as I’ve found a really good deal on one I want. Just feel worried it’s too early. Has anyone else ordered one yet? I’ve got my 20 week scan in 2 weeks so think I’d feel better waiting til then!

OP posts:
Snally82 · 01/01/2021 15:00

@swiftt we have, just because the sale deal was so good (about £100 cheaper than usual).

AlRRRR · 01/01/2021 15:03

@Nellle Are your dr’s not doing in patient appointments? How they do they measure your Blood pressure and wee if you don’t see anyone?

I’m in Wakefield and seeing my midwife next week and she said she’s listening to the heartbeat, checking wee and doing BP.

My midwife asked me where I wanted to go for birth during first booking in app at 8 weeks (over phone) She then saw me in person at 9 weeks. I said birth centre and she asked me which one, Dews, barnsley, walefield and i said not sure so on my online notes it says Pinders birth centre but you can actually go anywhere I think!

My midwife isn’t doing paper notes either, she signed me up to Midwife notes online and there is the data she imputted and the hospital for 12 week scan report

swiftt · 01/01/2021 15:16

@Snally82 were you able to try it in person before you’d ordered it? I’m a bit nervous about buying blind and wondering if I should hold off til the shops are open again too... it’s such a big purchase, I want to get it right.

OP posts:
Whywontitname · 01/01/2021 15:32

@AIRRRR Oooh I’ll have a look at it, I’ve had my 16 week appointment over the phone but I’ve got to have another one next week as they couldn’t work out what my blood type was so I’m blood is in Bristol being tested... so having a second one next week when I hopefully have a blood type.

@Nellle No one has mentioned home to me either, or really midwife unit vs hospital, just what hospital I wanted to go to.

I’ve also not met or even spoken to my allocated midwife, I’ve had 3 conversations so far and all different people and been told I won’t see anyone in person till 28 weeks so also feel pretty out of it all and as it’s my first I feel a bit like I don’t know what’s going on and what’s right.

Snally82 · 01/01/2021 15:39

@swiftt yes we popped out just before tier 4 hit us just in case. What one are you thinking of?

Firsttimeconcerns · 01/01/2021 16:41

@nellle I completely understand how you're feeling. I am in the same boat. Not seen a midwife either and my 16 weeks is over the phone. I'm also teaching and the moving around school to teach in various rooms, queuing to go to the loo and having constant duties is worrying me. Have you had a risk assessment at work yet? I've read on twitter that teachers are to step back from teaching in the classroom at 28 weeks.

Nellle · 01/01/2021 16:49

@AIRRRR I'm guessing my doctors must be trying to limit face to face appointments as much as possible. I gave blood and wee for my booking in appointment, but that's it. Had a cover midwife for that, so haven't met "my" midwife. I text her about the 16 week appointment and she said it would only be in person if she felt it was necessary to take bloods etc. I'm pleased that she deems me low risk, but I'm also surprised as I was put on a course of iron tablets which was completed weeks ago - I would've thought she'd want to check my levels at this stage. I will ask about midwife unit on the phone ‐ amongst my other concerns! So, can you access your online notes? I have access to all my "regular" medical notes online, but the stuff from the hospital scan isn't there.

@whywontitname I'm so with you. It's not a nice feeling. Is it your first baby? It's our first and I'm trying to keep anxiety at bay after previous MC. My 16 week appointment is on the phone Monday and it'll be the first time I've spoken to my midwife. I think I'll have to be quite upfront about how I'm feeling and I'll be "one of those" first time mums, but I don't care.

AlRRRR · 01/01/2021 17:04

@Nellle It’s an app that she got me to download and the stuff gets added to that whenever someone imputs it.
Don’t be worried about sharing your concerns, it’s all so weird atm, with my 1st you saw same MW all way through, app’s all time and always in the dr’s , I can’t imagine how shit you must he feeling with all being your 1st baby!

Waitingforbabypage · 01/01/2021 17:32

I met A midwife at my booking in for bloods and starting paperwork etc, but I had a phone consultation with a different one on the 20th December and won't have another face to face until 15th March.
Very different to my last pregnancies when I was being seen every 2 or so weeks to be measured and blood pressure taken etc.

lucieloos · 01/01/2021 17:38

Anyone else had sharp pains all over stomach?

Snally82 · 01/01/2021 17:44

@lucieloos mostly at the bottom, but very sharp on occasion. I think it’s pretty common x

lucieloos · 01/01/2021 17:51

@Snally82 mine are all over at the moment. I don't remember it being like this with the other two but maybe it's just everything stretching. Really uncomfortable though and a tad painful.

Snally82 · 01/01/2021 18:02

@lucieloos I’m such it is just stretching but can you call someone to chat through? Midwife or pregnancy unit?
