Hello! Just tentatively dipping my toe in here - how is everyone doing? I'm due baby #2 in July, and am about 15 weeks now. Is there a Facebook group that people are part of as well?

PeanutButterFalcon · 28/01/2021 16:05

@TiredAlreadyOhDear we have to completely change the spare room which is exciting but means we have no storage. Hoping to get the plumber in soon to start it.
I’ve bought a bath thermometer. Suppose we have to start somewhere. I can’t wait for it to arrive later on.

PeanutButterFalcon · 28/01/2021 16:06

@ZaphodBeeblerox congrats. there is a Facebook group. I’m sure someone will be along to tell you who to message as I cannot remember.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 28/01/2021 16:08

Has anyone else still not announced their pregnancy?

Luckyelephant1 · 28/01/2021 16:17

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE

Has anyone else still not announced their pregnancy?
I've still only told close friends and family, and my line manager at work. Planning on letting not-so-close friends and colleagues etc know after my 20 week scan. Not really sure why I haven't told them, I guess I'm fairly anxious as a person and would rather know all is going well before letting my wider circle know. It's getting quite hard though especially as I have colleagues also expecting, one of which is also due in July and chit chat on our team calls is often about babies and pregnancy!
CC81 · 28/01/2021 22:01

Same as @Luckyelephant1 !

Only told my parents, so far.

Not even told my husband's parents! We're waiting until after the 20-week scan, if all is well.

Then may tell others after 26 weeks (anyone we haven't seen in person, obvs - it'll soon be impossible to hide!).

CC81 · 28/01/2021 22:02

@Luckyelephant1 - Same with the 20-week thing, I mean.

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 28/01/2021 22:34

@PeanutButterFalcon that’s one thing I was looking at buying soon actually! Just ordered a bundle off tommie tipee website with steriliser, perfect prep machine, bottles etc got a 20% discount code so thought I may as well get the discount as we will only buy them at some point anyway!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/01/2021 07:17

I still have a perfect prep from my last baby, it was replaced by TT two months before he stopped having formula so it should still be in good condition!

If you do have any problems i do find their customer service is good!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 29/01/2021 08:04

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE oh that was lucky it was replaced just before he stopped using it! I’ve had so many people recommend them - I’m going to try and breastfeed at first if I can manage it - but I wouldn’t want to do that on its own for too long - so plan on going with a mixed approach then me and my partner can share the load a little :)

Nicolamca · 29/01/2021 08:12

@TiredAlreadyOhDear we're planning the same, to do breastfeeding first but then a mix! My husband has said he wants to be involved with feeding so we'll give it a go. Although I don't like the look of breast pumps - how are we in the 21st century and they still look like that?!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/01/2021 08:39

I have never BF any of mine, all FF from day 1 through choice and all perfectly fine and healthy! You just do what works for you and your family although the mw did suggest i might like to try BF this time, like with 5 other dc i have time to try and establish that 🤣

It was lucky the prep got replaced then yes! Saved me £60 (hopefully)

PeanutButterFalcon · 29/01/2021 10:25

@TiredAlreadyOhDear I have no idea where to start but it popped up online so I thought why not. I just want to wander the shops and go crazy buying everything.
Is it the closer to nature bottles? We’re hoping to breast feed but thought if it can’t happen we can always quickly grab these on prime in the supermarkets if we need to.

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 29/01/2021 11:14

@Nicolamca I know the breast pumps look a bit brutal don’t they 🙈 hopefully mixed feeding will work - but I wouldn’t want to breastfeed for a long time great for those who can but I don’t think it’s for me!

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE could you imagine trying to get to grips with breastfeeding with 5 other children to look after and do things for!! No I think you do right! Lots of my friends tried and couldn’t breastfeed so I’m not precious about it - I would try but if it doesn’t work out I’m just as happy to formula feed fully - as long as the baby is fed that’s what matters!

@PeanutButterFalcon yes it was the closer to nature ones! I know I really can’t wait to come out of lockdown now and actually go and look at things - online is hard as you can’t always tell what things are like online.

Can anyone believe how close July seems! Time is going so quickly! Seems like yesterday when I found out hahaha xx

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/01/2021 11:33

Definitley, fed is best!

We used the tommee tippee bottles with dc5 and had no issues. Have previously used Mam and Avent fine too.

I think TT are good as they sell them and the teats etc EVERYWHERE

Nicolamca · 29/01/2021 11:42

@TiredAlreadyOhDear they really do!! I think I'm going to try breastfeeding and just see how it goes. I guess if you're a first time mum you don't know what works for you until you're there do you!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 29/01/2021 11:50

@Nicolamca yeah very true. Suppose we’ll be winging it and just seeing what works until we get into some type of routine :)

Nicolamca · 29/01/2021 11:54

Going back to buying things, has anyone figured out what buggy they're getting?! I never thought I'd struggle this much to decide!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/01/2021 12:00

I have narrowed it down to three doubles but i can pick faults with all of them

Nicolamca · 29/01/2021 13:48

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE same (although singles not doubles), and trying to navigate the minefield of car seats that are compatible is a nightmare!

PeanutButterFalcon · 29/01/2021 13:50

@TiredAlreadyOhDear please let me know how you find them.

Breast pumps look terrifying. Like something you’d attach to a cow.

@Nicolamca I wish! I know what I like the look of but I want to be able to see if I can lift them, fold them easily with one hand and what they push like etc. You?

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE what have you narrowed down to?

Nicolamca · 29/01/2021 13:54

@PeanutButterFalcon exactly my thoughts - "great, I'm going to look like a farm animal when pumping, exactly what every woman dreams of" 😂

We've narrowed it down to 3 that we like but I want to go and actually try them like you said. They look good, but you don't know what it'll be like when you're actually using it! We'll probably buy one second hand but I'm tempted to order one from John Lewis or wherever and just try it in the living room. Apparently they're returnable as long as they haven't got dirt on the tyres and visible signs of use.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/01/2021 13:57

@PeanutButterFalcon love that description for breast pumps Grin There is a posh one that you just put in your bra, i think its called Elvie?

@Nicolamca which singles have you narrowed it down to?

I am looking at the babyjogger city mini duo (but can only parent face while in carrycot) cosatto wow xl (but worried about the weight) and phil and teds voyager (hardly any reviews is off putting)

Nicolamca · 29/01/2021 14:11

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE @PeanutButterFalcon I've heard mixed reviews about the Elvie - apparently they leak if you bend over and some reviews said they're not worth the high cost. Still debating them though!

We've narrowed it down to the bugaboo Fox or chameleon (leaning towards chameleon as it's cheaper), uppababy vista and the oyster 3. We looked at the babyjogger but we go on quite a lot of country walks so need something that goes off road a little bit.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 29/01/2021 14:17

Babyjogger is bottom of my list, its meant to be the easiest of my three choices to use as a double but the not parent facing thing really bothers me, i still have my 16 month old parent facing and my babies tend to outgrow carrycots by 5 months Sad plus my other two choices can both be used as a single so would hopefully last longer Hmm
