@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE

16+3 and i seem to have developed pregnancy insomnia, anyone have a miracle cure?
Let me know if you find it! My usual cure would be essential oils but they're a pregnancy minefield I don't dare explore!
THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 20/01/2021 12:26

@lmao88 is lavender safe then? Clueless with stuff like that!

Don't think i have ever had this in previous pregnancies!

lmao88 · 20/01/2021 14:15

Yes pure lavender oil is safe after 12 weeks as advised by my midwife, also I read it in some maternity books too. but other oils such as tea-tree, peppermint aren’t. Alternatively you can use dry lavender / lavender bags in your pillow. It helped me to fall asleep but not for the entire night.

AliceinBunniland · 20/01/2021 14:53

I like the Lush Sleepy moisturiser. I sometimes use it as a hand cream before bed.

I also find asmr or an audiobook can help me fall asleep.

Hello,
Joining the thread as I'm currently 14+5 - first baby hopefully due 18th July (3rd pregnancy - 2020 was NOT a good year so hoping third time lucky)

Have a weird question - when I wake up I have a really definite bump/lump in my lower stomach, probably about the size of a tennis ball, not hard but feels different from the rest of my stomach so you can cup it in your hand and my DH says he can see a kind of outline - it's mainly on the right so if I lay on my back and look down my tummy is lopsided with it being lower on the left and higher on the right where the 'ball' is.

Is this my bump arriving?? Been getting bloating for weeks and am not skinny (size 12) so the rest of the day I don't feel much different to normal - jeans just feel a bit tighter.

Don't know what I expected a 'bump' to feel like but it's weird that it's so round/defined and more on one size - thought it would sort of mushroom up from the middle?! Has anyone else had this? Is this normal??

CC81 · 22/01/2021 17:21

Also posted in the Facebook group (pasted here for those not there!):

Had my 16-week midwife appointment today - so relieved! She found both heartbeats (after a long search - they kept wiggling). ❤️❤️

BP/urine tests fine too; and she had no concerns about my overall health, weight, etc. She said I can finish my folic acid prescription, but won’t need more after that. Just to continue with my pregnancy multivitamin.

Next is a phone appointment with a hospital consultant on Monday (due to twins / previous c-section). Not sure what to expect... think most of my questions will be about my c-section (timing, monitoring beforehand, etc).

Anyone else under consultant care already had an appointment? What did you talk about?!

Leala20 · 22/01/2021 19:34

Can I join? I am 17w today and full of nerves. Cannot wait for my 20w scan to see if everything is ok. It’s my first and I am super cautious. I know it’s not normal to feel any movement yet but I feel nothing at all. I had my midwife app. last week and heard the heartbeat but I still worry.

Char899 · 22/01/2021 20:08

@Wiggleinherwalk don’t want you going unanswered but I’m afraid I can’t help. This is my second baby and I can’t say I’ve ever experienced a tennis ball sized lump. For me my bump is very much the whole front of my stomach and you can sort of feel the slightest outline where it’s hardening but not as you described. Have you contacted your midwife to ask? Maybe someone else has had similar

Char899 · 22/01/2021 20:10

@cc81 I believe I am also under consultant care as I was induced with my first baby at 37+3 due to him measuring on the small side! I had a letter from the hospital asking me to attend an appointment and no one seems to know what it’s for! I’ll be interested to see what they say for you!
Also.. can I join the fb group please?

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 22/01/2021 20:41

@Wiggleinherwalk i have felt that before! It will get bigger

I have a consultant app at 36 weeks to discuss the birth

CC81 · 22/01/2021 22:24

@Char899 - Might be worth a call to your midwife to find out more!

Re: Facebook group - If you scroll back in this thread and find @stickytoffeepud1991, send her a PM and she can invite you to the FB group (it's private, so you can only join by invitation).

It probably won't be immediate, though, as she only gets the chance to visit this thread (and check messages) occasionally.

@THATbasicSNOWFLAKE - Have they said why you don't meet your consultant until 36w? Seems very close to the end! I'm likely to have a c-section at 37 weeks (ish).

stickytoffeepud1991 · 22/01/2021 22:29

@CC81 I get the notification if someone tags me haha!
But yes I’m happy for anyone to PM me so I can add to the group.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 22/01/2021 22:41

@CC81 i did see a consultant at my first scan and think i will at my second two but other appointments will be midwife. I am half and half, higher risk but only due to being sixth baby

PurpleCurtain · 23/01/2021 00:00

It's a nervy few weeks until the 20wk scan and/ or definite movement isn't it!

Interested in everyone's approach to mouldy fruit - pregnant and not pregnant! I hate food waste and was always taught to just wash/ chop off the mould and continue as long as it smelt okay... so yesterday I a) sniffed some quite furry rhubarb (great new innuendo isn't it Grin) and b) chopped the obvious bad bits off, washed it and stewed it. Husband is adamant that I've now caused damage through mycotoxins (not a word I knew before yesterday) by sniffing it alone let alone by eating it...is this a thing?

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 23/01/2021 07:22

@PurpleCurtain i have no idea on the mouldy fruit sorry

Still 3.5 weeks til my scan. 16 week app this week at 17+3 on the phone. Anyone had a phone one?

AliceinBunniland · 23/01/2021 08:02

@PurpleCurtain I would normally just cut off the mould, give it a good wash and eat it tbh. I'm a bit more mindful while pregnant and generally anxious during pregnancy so if I'm overthinking it then I'd rather just throw it away than worry for a day or two...

I panicked weeks ago after eating a loaf of bread after the one next to it was mouldy...

CC81 · 23/01/2021 11:22

@PurpleCurtain - I reckon stewing the rhubarb will have killed off anything harmful.

That's why it's ok to eat cheese with a white mould rind IF it's cooked (e.g. baked Camembert), as any listeria in the mouldy rind would be killed off.

He's mostly at me for sniffing it and supposedly inhaling the toxins rather than eating it - I can possibly see his point on why smelling things to check if they're bad might not be the wisest idea!

(And he's now been on google and telling me mycotoxins are resistant to heat - well my reaction to that is surely if they were that prevalent and dangerous they would be in various pregnancy books!)

I'd definitely rather him be worried than totally indifferent to everything, but it does leave me wondering how much we're going to disagree about approach once baby's here!

Luckyelephant1 · 23/01/2021 11:56

Is anyone feeling worse in 2nd trimester than they did in 1st? I'll be 16 weeks on Monday but the last couple of weeks I've woken with a migraine headache nearly everyday and have puked a few times including puking up just water first thing in the morning. I have absolutely no energy. I only had nausea and food aversions in first trimester, no sickness. Anyone else experienced this?

PurpleCurtain · 23/01/2021 11:56

@ThatbasicsSNOWFLAKE mine was supposed to be on the phone and only wasn't as I ended up needing bloods doing. I was told it would have just been a confirmation of my 12 week scan results, a reminder to book in for whooping cough, and a chance to raise any concerns or ask questions.

luxxlisbon · 23/01/2021 13:11

I'm not even having a 16 week one, not even on the phone. I was lucky to have my booking appointment in person, then I had my 12 week scan and 20 is on the 23 Feb but I have nothing until then.

I might book a private scan in a week or two to put my mind at ease since my trust are doing less appointments.

Does anyone feel like lockdown has made them obsessed with the baby?
I'm already looking up prams, cribs, cute decorations and only 16 weeks! I think it is because I have nothing else interesting going on through lockdown so planning for the baby is a nice distraction.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 23/01/2021 13:20

Currently home schooling three children with a four and a one year old to juggle too .... i genuinely forget about the baby at times Blush

PurpleCurtain · 23/01/2021 14:01

@Luckyelephant1 yep I'm definitely feeling worse and vomitting more often and migraines too. Which is a pain in the arse as I feel like there is just nothing to do to distract me from it at evenings/ weekends at the moment, so I'm turning into a fat lump and barely managing a 20 min walk outside a lot of days.

And yes @luxxlisbon I definitely have a big wishlist saved... don't think I'll buy anything until 20 weeks though!

CC81 · 23/01/2021 16:35

@PurpleCurtain - Hmmm, his Google-based science training sounds rather wishy-washy to me!

Your sniffing of mould would probably need to be heavy, prolonged and frequent to do harm.

Also, heat 'resistant' doesn't mean something can survive being stewed/boiled etc.

PeanutButterFalcon · 25/01/2021 12:15

Hey everyone hope you’re all ok?

I’ve just received a letter and got excited thinking it’s my 20 week scan. Instead, it’s an appointment to see a consultant at 22 weeks. Is this routine? My midwife didn’t mention it to me at all.
