@Sweetpea12 thanks for replying, I feel like I'm a nervous wreck about the scan, I didn't do a private early one as with Xmas we just had so many other things to spend money on. Really wish I'd have had one though.

Luckily my midwife has already booked me in to see her in person at 16 weeks so as long as I make it that far an in person visit might put my mind at rest.

Sweetpea12 · 03/01/2021 22:37

@WarrickDavisAsPlates I went for a private one only because of a MMC at 8 weeks last year so I had a private one just before 10 weeks. It’s hard to not worry for me I tell myself each little milestone that is passed is one step closer to ever holding a baby in my arms and closer than I was before.

Good luck with your pregnancy I’m glad there are people on here in the same position and can offer any advice and just even nice words.

Famous last words but my sickness seemed to miraculously go on Friday eve (12 weeks 6 days). Same time as I fell down the stairs and had cramps start though, so of course I have worried about it more than I've enjoyed it so far! But I did go get checked out today and they found a heartbeat okay which reassured me (no scan). Still not sure what's causing the cramps (is it round ligament pain? Did i pull something when i fell? Is it a UTI?) - if it's not sickness it's something else!

AliceinBunniland · 04/01/2021 09:03

I didn't see your previous post @hippohippohippo but I was also worried about pains on Friday. They were low abdominal pains with some lower back pain, not severe and not enough to want to take pain killers, but i had it all day. Some anxious googling showed that pains at 13 weeks are not unusual but I also wondered if it could be related to a UTI or constipation. I have a good appointment today but I don't know whther they are actually testing for UTIs as I read some places will just prescribe antibiotics. I had no more pain from when I woke up on Saturday morning.

I have had very some light spotting when wiping too. I am hoping this is just from my cervix as I had a couple of instances around this time in my first pregnancy and I also had some at around 10 weeks this pregnancy and my 12 week scan was fine but I'm going to get in touch with my midwife.

hippohippohippo · 04/01/2021 14:39

Thanks @AliceinBunniland, useful to read! Presumably there is no risk in GPs choosing to blanket prescribe antibiotics "in case" it's a UTI?

Glad to hear you're feeling better and hopefully the spotting is completely normal but you're right to raise it!

AliceinBunniland · 04/01/2021 15:44

@hippohippohippo I don't think it's ideal to take antibiotics if you're not sure you need them. I would be reluctant but I read on Mumsnet some doctors had done that.

I just spoke to my gp and she has asked me to drop off a urine sample to tomorrow to check if I have a UTI so I'm happier with that and with regards to spotting she said it's unlikely to be anything untoward since I have had a positive scan but to call again if any issues and I have also texted my midwife to see if I can see her sooner than 16 weeks.

PeanutButterFalcon · 04/01/2021 16:17

Hey, it’s not unusual to prescribe antibiotics without sending off a urine sample now. The guidelines changed to prescribe them on symptoms.

However, I had a UTI at 8 weeks where my urine was dipped and have another now. 111 prescribed over the phone this time but I have to get my urine checked. I think they’re more cautious in pregnancy.

My first sign has always been flank pain (think they call it that) and I can tell ones coming before my urine becomes cloudy/stings etc

@hippohippohippo my sickness stopped at 12 weeks too. Saw baby yesterday and everything is ok so I hope it is for you too

AliceinBunniland · 04/01/2021 16:36

@PeanutButterFalcon I'm cautious about medication so I would try to avoid taking the antibiotics unless I knew I needed them but I'm pleased they are going to check.

I had to look up where the flank is Blush Has your pain been more to the side? Mine was quite central but I think last time I had a UTI I was in a similar place.

PeanutButterFalcon · 04/01/2021 17:08

@AliceinBunniland definitely agree the healthcare system likes to just give medications for everything. However, having a UTI can be harmful to the baby so definitely worth getting checked, I’ve left this one too long and now feel awful. They have given me a lower longer dose rather than the usual high short dose due to being pregnant.

The love handles! It can go around the front into the groins too. Mine tends to be on the right but whenever I get pain it’s on the right side. Once it’s on the left I know it’s time for medications. It also hurts more after I’ve been to the toilet.

jewelsx · 04/01/2021 18:44

Has anyone ever found out what the gender is at 13 weeks? I have a hospital scan Wednesday but have also paid for a private one on the 23rd, just thought have I wasted my money if they can tell you. Or probably too early?

AliceinBunniland · 04/01/2021 19:07

I thought a private scan could tell the gender from 16 weeks @jewelsx

jewelsx · 04/01/2021 19:15

Yeah 15+
I don't think I'd get much hope of asking Wednesday at being 13

AliceinBunniland · 04/01/2021 19:23

Have you already had a scan @jewelsx or is it possible you are further along?

I hope it goes well anyway

jewelsx · 04/01/2021 19:31

I already had one in December.
I was 10 week 5 days
So Wednesday I'll be 12 weeks 5 days, by the time I have my private scan that I've paid for I'll be 15 weeks exact which they said that's a good time to come in

jewelsx · 04/01/2021 20:11

Seeing as we are now in lockdown for 6 weeks shall I cancel my appointment at private scan and get a refund ?? as I assume they will be shut?

strawberrycherryblossom · 04/01/2021 21:31

@jewelsx I would suggest waiting until at least 16 weeks for a gender scan anyway as it's harder to be accurate the earlier you are.

I'm guessing they'll still offer well-being scans which may also show gender rather than specific gender scans. That's how it was in the November lockdown anyway.

jewelsx · 04/01/2021 22:31

@strawberrycherryblossom I'll change it for the end of the month then I think, thank you!
And I totally understand if they have stopped unnecessary scans but I don't really want to loose my money that's all! But I'll ring them tomorrow to check

elldog6 · 04/01/2021 22:48

@stickytoffeepud1991 I don't know how to private message on the app but please could I be added to the fb? Smile

elldog6 · 04/01/2021 22:49

I've got my dating scan on Friday. Anyone got any advice to keep me sane and positive before then? Terrified something could be wrong without me knowing.

Luckyelephant1 · 05/01/2021 07:37

I was the same as you, terrified of anything and everything, to the point I almost convinced myself there'd not even be anything to see on the scan at all.

The only advice I could give is to remind yourself worrying won't change the outcome, what's there is there and nothing you do will change it. For me I also tried to keep myself busy although I know its hard in a lockdown situation. Try not to google too much either but a good thing to look up is the miscarriage calculator which shows just how much your chance of miscarrying decreases every day. If you're a numbers type of person that definitely helps!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 05/01/2021 07:46

Hi, I’m due for my 12 week scan tomorrow - the NHS one - with last nights lockdown news does anyone know if partners are still allowed to come? On my letter it says yes however this was before the lockdown announcement last night.

I’m going to try and call when they open but can’t find any guidance online at all - really nervous to go on my own as it’s my first baby and worried in case I get any bad news and I’m just on my own xx

strawberrycherryblossom · 05/01/2021 08:31

@TiredAlreadyOhDear our maternity department have put out a message to say no changes but it will depend on your local hospital. I'm sure you won't be the first person to ring and ask!

If it helps, I went to my scan on my own as we didn't have childcare. It was absolutely fine and the staff were brilliant. It is obviously not the same as having your partner there but they are really supportive. You also have to remember that chances are, it will go exactly as planned x

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 05/01/2021 09:19

@strawberrycherryblossom thanks so much for the reply. I’ve called this morning and they’ve said no change and that partners are still ok to come Smile at the hospital that I’m going to so that’s a relief I guess. I think as well he would have been gutted if he couldn’t come - as it’s going to be the first time it feels a bit real so we were excited to go together. I know it wouldn’t have been the end of the world if he couldn’t have come and there are much worse things happening but I do feel a little relieved he can come - excited and nervous now for it! Roll on tomorrow Blush

strawberrycherryblossom · 05/01/2021 12:46

Has anyone else had their combined screening results back yet?

fib11235 · 05/01/2021 13:14

Nope not yet. I got my scan yesterday and my measurement was 1.8 so am just waiting on the bloods
