Sorry legionnaires disease. Its from build up within systems (hence hotels in lock down had to still have staff to run all the taps!)
If your house has a cold water tank then yes avoid just in case but it's very unlikely anyway

AliceinBunniland · 25/12/2020 12:05

Thanks @Scottishskifun You're always very kind in your replies. I think it will be okay as you say it's more common in larger commercial buildings and I think if I did get something like that I would have symptoms anyway so fingers crossed. As DH said, we use that water to brush our teeth anyway and I did drink it mostly out of a filter bottle Grin

Merry Christmas everyone 🎅🏻

Sweetpea12 · 25/12/2020 12:46

Merry Christmas everyone I shared my pregnancy news with my mum and dad today I’m only 11 weeks but couldn’t hold it in any longer Blush my dad had to take himself to bed he was crying and shaking bless him

Hope everyone has a fantastic day ❤️

Scottishskifun · 25/12/2020 12:46

@AliceinBunniland happy to help! My DH is an environmental health officer so deals with public health and food risks etc. It's made me a lot more relaxed about most things pregnancy food/water related as he knows it in detail anyway but I also get how worrying a time it is and Google can lead people down deep rabbit holes!

Happy Christmas everyone!

FirstTimeMummy2021 · 25/12/2020 15:30

@sweetpea12 Aw we also told my parents today and they were both so pleased. It felt really strange saying those words though.

Happy Christmas everyone! I'm missing certain foods more than I realised I would today

jewelsx · 25/12/2020 18:37

Is anyone else eating these?

AliceinBunniland · 25/12/2020 18:40

Cured meats are not recommended @jewelsx I think ok if frozen. It's not something I eat often anyway though

Scottishskifun · 25/12/2020 18:53

@jewelsx

Is anyone else eating these?
Yes I am my big craving at the moment is cured meats which is not ideal as you need to freeze them for 4 days to ensure there isn't any issues and then defrost in the fridge!

The freezing ensures no bacteria as cured meats are not cooked via heat it uses salts to preserve.
All are fine cooked (like on a pizza) without having to freeze Xmas Grin

AliceinBunniland · 25/12/2020 18:55

I was going to say it should be okay if frozen or if cooked eg on a pizza

jewelsx · 25/12/2020 19:16

Ah okay I'll give it a miss then! Just to be safe! Hope your all having a good Christmas

Scottishskifun · 25/12/2020 19:27

Like most of the warnings chances of ever getting ill are very slim but they have to stick with the advice. If you stick a packet in the freezer and you can have it for new years eve nibbles though 😊
hippohippohippo · 26/12/2020 16:35

Hope everyone had a great Christmas! I can't believe how much alcohol I was gifted, friends and family dont normally buy us alcohol either! Will be interesting if they recall it when we break the news - we are holding out to 20 weeks to tell friends and family if possible. Partly due to nerves and partly because we think the current situation means will manage that. I imagine if this wasn't our first I would say something sooner.

My latest worry, though, is the sheer amount of sugar I'm eating. I just can't find savoury food I can stomach right now, and often can't even manage water so turn to fizzy drinks. Yesterday I must have had half a crumble with ice cream all to myself, two whole 750ml bottles of appletiser, a non alcoholic cider, about 200g of foam bananas (big craving), a slice of (alcohol free) christmas cake, a flapjack, a mince pie, syrup on my crumpets at breakfast, lots of orange juice. You get the idea - and today is not dissimilar. I'm really struggling with sickness and getting out the house is a bit of an ordeal - really just can't seem to work out any good savoury snacks that I can stomach. Oh and I'm intolerant to dairy and don't eat meat so that feels like it makes it all a lot harder!

How much damage am I doing?! Anyone else gone sugar mad?

Scottishskifun · 26/12/2020 16:55

@hippohippohippo it's difficult to avoid when things are your cravings but pregnancy ruins your teeth (hence you get free dental treatment!) so be extra careful with brushing and sugar if you can. Pregnancy also causes glucose spikes and some women are more predispositioned to gestational diebetes. Your not necessarily going to develop it just by having sugar but there are some swaps you can try to reduce your sugar intake.

Things like sugar free cordials with sparkling water, roasted carrots, parsnips and sweet potatoes are sweet, doing half orange juice with fizzy water, going for natural sugars like some stewed fruit etc

jewelsx · 27/12/2020 00:45

Can anyone please recommend a double pram that is suitable for a baby and young child?? So u can have newborn facing and child either the same or rear facing??

AliceinBunniland · 27/12/2020 08:02

@hippohippohippo I haven't been eating very healthily recently but I don't think that's unusual in the first trimester when it's difficult to stomach a lot of things. I also have had a fair amount of sweet things as I find I sometimes have a bitter taste in my mouth or feel sick and sucking on a mint or eating a sweet can help.

The past couple of days I have eaten some Christmas sweets but it's Christmas! Maybe the second trimester will be easier when the sickness usually subsides.

Scottishskifun · 27/12/2020 09:04

@jewelsx I have friends who highly rate the bugaboo donkey as a double buggy but its pricey I think they come up second hand fairly regularly. Depending on on the age of your first you might get away with a toddler buggy board on your existing pram.

I find the made for mums website useful for reviews.

Luckyelephant1 · 27/12/2020 12:03

Did anyone feel horrendous after the flu jab? I got mine on 23rd and by the evening of Xmas day I started getting cold like symptoms. Yesterday and today I've had such a woolly head, full blown cold, awful sore throat and achey all over! Is this a normal thing to experience?

AliceinBunniland · 27/12/2020 12:29

@Luckyelephant1 I had mine on 23rd too. I had a bit of a high temp for a few hours so one paracetamol and went to bed. Arm was sore for a day or two. Otherwise I was okay. I think it's normal to get aches and pains. Not sure if full on cold is normal. You could have had a cold coming on anyway or picked it up somehow.

hippohippohippo · 27/12/2020 12:32

Thanks @Scottishskifun and @AliceinBunniland! Pre-pregnany I ate pretty well (husband and I both played top level sport with pretty intense nutrition plans etc) which is probably why I'm worrying so much at the contrast, I just can't stomach the healthier options at the moment! Good point that I'll just have to hope I can make up for it once the sickness eases (fingers crossed it's not here for the duration!). I'm trying to compensate with excessive teeth brushing!

WarrickDavisAsPlates · 27/12/2020 20:22

@luckyelephant1 I haven't had one for this pregnancy yet but I do remember getting really ill after my flu jab with my last pregnancy. It did clear up after a few days and it's a real shame you had to feel rough over Xmas but hopefully you'll start feeling better soon.

luxxlisbon · 27/12/2020 20:50

Hope everyone had a good Christmas! We just had a private scan today as our hospital one isn’t until the 6th jan. It was incredible to see the baby today, she was moving around and flipping about so much! Measuring 11w5 today with a heartbeat of 157. I’m so glad we had a private one so close to our official 12 week one as it was just such a lovely experience. The people doing the scan were so friendly and excited whereas I can imagine the nhs one might be a little clinical.

Hi all, hope you have had a lovely Christmas and it’s lovely to see everyone’s scans.
Just popping on for a little vent. Midwife had told me to start taking aspirin from 12 weeks (Christmas day). Finally got my hands on some today and after my DM was prescribed something she cannot take I thought I would read the leaflet. Turns out I am allergic to them, which they knew, and things could have been so much worse. I did not realise aspirin was in the same medication group and would have just taken them especially on Christmas Day. Thank god I couldn’t find any.
Not sure if there’s an alternative for me to take so will contact in the morning.

NamechangeTTC · 29/12/2020 09:36

Just checking back in. Should be 10/40 tomorrow and going for a private scan. Hugely anxious due to everything that’s gone on so far and the bizarre mucus plug I lost last week.

Praying for a miracle.

Blughbablugh · 29/12/2020 11:30

Hi all. Is anyone still on here thats on the Facebook group at all?

OP posts:
AliceinBunniland · 29/12/2020 11:34

@luxxlisbon I'm glad your private scan went well

@PeanutButterFalcon That's annoying but good that you spotted it. I hope there is a safe alternative you can take.

Do you have a prescription for the asprin by the way? My consultant didn't give me one but one pharmacy refused to supply it without. I've got some but it's dispersible which I don't like and have had mixed advice on whether it's okay to just swallow whole.
