Checking back in.

First midwife appt on Friday. Virtually!

I’m 8+6 today on ovulation (correlated with EPU scan) 9+5 on LMP and due to a panic and symptoms last week we got another early scan on Thursday which would put me 9+3.

Scan is early jan when I’d be 11+6/12+5/12+3 and I’m still hugely terrified. Hoping for a positive outcome

elldog6 · 22/12/2020 07:27

@CC81 can I also join the fb group? Smile

hippohippohippo · 22/12/2020 09:11
@hippohippohippo that’s brilliant. I have my 12week scan on Wednesday and am so anxious and scared. Had a mmc in July so petrified it will be the same fate x
Everything crossed for you!!

jewelsx · 22/12/2020 10:49

Have my scan today 😊

Luckyelephant1 · 22/12/2020 11:10

@Runnergirl1 I have mine tomorrow too although I'll only actually be 11+2 then so hopefully it's not too early for the nuchal test. Good luck for yours x

AliceinBunniland · 22/12/2020 11:14

Good luck @jewelsx

I have my scan tomorrow too @Runnergirl1 @Luckyelephant1 I will 12 weeks tomorrow. I had an early scan at 9+5 but nervous and hoping it goes well and for you too

Blughbablugh · 22/12/2020 12:07

Looks like lots of us having scans tomorrow. I have mine as well tomorrow at12+2. Exciting and nervous times. Good luck with all the scans tomorrow and in the coming days and weeks!

Wow we are all in tomorrow. I won’t be 12weeks either I am according to lmp but not actual ovulation. I’ll either be 11+2 or 11+4. Good luck tomorrow everyone x

jewelsx · 22/12/2020 13:16

11 weeks already, was really shocked to see the scan with baby moving and their little arms and legs. Going back again in two weeks

Scottishskifun · 22/12/2020 14:12

I was due a scan on Xmas eve which was rearranged due to original plans of visiting family now will be on the 7th but I might have to be on my own due to the Scottish lock down.

Fartymcfart · 22/12/2020 14:16

Hi, I've just tried to contact me midwife services to which I got told to email some email address? Did anyone else have this what am I supposed to email? Is this what the service has become, never had this with my others?

Is it me or is that really weird? And really shit for way to deal with a service

AliceinBunniland · 22/12/2020 14:30

That's slightly frustrating @Scottishskifun but good you have an appointment

I need to double check whether I can take DH with me to scan tomorrow but he would be taking me anyway

@Fartymcfart It varies by area but I don't think self referral is unusual. I was given the number of the local midwives to call and they arranged a booking in appointment for me.

Fartymcfart · 22/12/2020 14:41

Thanks, I think it a quite shocking way to treat people, but alas I've emailed them my name and number and we will see what happens

Luckyelephant1 · 22/12/2020 14:45

@Fartymcfart do you mean contact for self-referral or did you mean you needed to generally contact a midwife for something else?

I think the email for self-referral thing is quite normal now and at least there's a paper trail. But if you were trying to contact a midwife for something else potentially urgent then getting told to email isn't great, I agree.

Sweetpea12 · 22/12/2020 15:32

Good luck to everyone who has scans coming up Smile I had to self refer to midwife I don’t think I’ll hear anything as sent the letter of two weeks ago and I have my booking appointment first week in January when I’ll be 13 weeks. I thought there was tests they do before 12 weeks though?

Maybe some hospitals operate differently

jewelsx · 22/12/2020 15:49

They do the test / fluid check between 12 and 14 weeks @Sweetpea12 so you dont need to worry x

Runnergirl1 · 22/12/2020 15:57

@jewelsx that’s great to hear. Glad everything is going well for you x

AliceinBunniland · 22/12/2020 16:41

I don't have an appointment letter for my 12 week scan tomorrow as it was confirmed by phone and then text

Can someone please tell me what they have been told about drinking before the appointment?

I have my 20 week scan appointment by letter and says to drink 1 and a half pints an hour before. Is it the same for the 12 week scan? I can't remember from when I was pregnant with my first baby

AliceinBunniland · 22/12/2020 16:43

I think I asked on the phone and she said to attend with a full bladder...

Scottishskifun · 22/12/2020 16:48

@AliceinBunniland yes like anything up here we are waiting on more information. Last lock down partners weren't allowed. English NHS said a few weeks ago that partners should be allowed at all stages of pregnancy appointments but Scotland hasn't said the same thing.

Our nurseries are also due to be closed until at least the 18th so now in a waiting game of if my son can get a key worker place based on my DH - it's a bit of a Council lottery some say both parents have to be key workers others say 1!

Either way everything is turning into a stressful mess from family plans cancelled to lock down and now nursery! Xmas Sad my son massively regressed last lock down and became terrified of people I don't want to see that again.

My letter says a glass of water 30 minutes before.
AliceinBunniland · 22/12/2020 16:54

@Scottishskifun Hopefully you get some answers before your appointment snd your DH can go with you.

Thanks. A glass of water 30 mins before feels more do-able. I remember for a scan on my first pregnancy having to drink a lot (like half a litre or a litre?) and then waiting ages for my scan with a full bladder but can't recall which scan it was.

We are about an hours drive anyway so I will drink in the car but slightly anxious about needing the loo and anxious about it generally

AliceinBunniland · 22/12/2020 17:16

Sorry but I have another question about the 12 week scan

Were you asked to take a urine sample with you?

I thought I would, just in case, but the bottle I have is from my local midwife and one of those with boric acid in it

I don't have another bottle to give a sample in

PeanutButterFalcon · 22/12/2020 17:46

Hope everyone’s scans go well. I’m 12 weeks Christmas Day but can’t have my scan until I’m 13+3.

My last ones at EPU I drank about 200ml before we left and 250 in the car and was told my bladder was very full.

@AliceinBunniland they have the pots in the toilets in my hospital to use once we have had the scan.

Scottishskifun · 22/12/2020 18:56

No urine sample required. My letter states drink the water, wear a mask and they will take bloods if you are having down syndrome check. This used to be done separately by the midwife in our area but they are combining as many appointments into 1 as possible. So for my health board area we get whooping cough vaccination at 20 week midwife appointment, ultrasound also does bloods etc but I don't think this is the same for all health boards.

I'm also in a fairly rural area of Scotland of mostly small towns!
