@Sweetpea12 I'm almost 11 weeks and the nausea isn't letting up yet. 12 weeks Christmas Day so crossing my fingers. I'm sure I felt better by week 10 last time though!

Luckyelephant1 · 16/12/2020 17:07

@Sweetpea12 I'm 10 weeks today (I thought I was 10+4 but I had an early private scan yesterday that pushed it back a few days) and even though I've been quite lucky with not much sickness, I definitely lost my appetite and had a lot of food aversion, but this week things seem to be returning to normal, I even managed broccoli yesterday which a week or so ago was my ultimate food hell!

WarrickDavisAsPlates · 16/12/2020 17:33

May I join the thread?

I'm pregnant with my 3rd DC! Very much wanted but quite a bit sooner than expected. Approximately 9-10 weeks, I've estimated my due date to be the 17th of July, but am quite unsure as had an unpredictable cycle so expect the date to change when I have my scan.

I'm very anxious as I've had previous losses so glad I found this thread as Ive only told DH so far.

FirstTimeMummy2021 · 16/12/2020 17:54

I've been lurking on the thread for a while but haven't felt ready to post yet. Midwife has started me on iron tablets already, not sure if that means I'll be on them for the rest of the pregnancy? Does anyone know?Have got my scan booked for after Christmas and am hoping we will be able to share with our families straight after. We are yet to tell anyone our news!
@Sweetpea12 I'm almost 11 weeks and the constant nausea has reduced in the last 2 days. I was dreading Christmas lunch in case I couldn't eat any of it but I'm hoping another week and it will be gone!

Sweetpea12 · 16/12/2020 18:09

Oh girls I hope the nausea stops soon I find it the hardest part. I did notice if I take my vitamin later in the day that I don’t feel as sick as when I take it in the morning

Luckyelephant1 · 16/12/2020 18:22

Has anyone had pregnancy headaches and/or keep feeling faint in the shower? I've had to keep the temperature down, keep the windows open and shorten my showers otherwise I keep almost fainting! I'm also quite breathless a lot of the time. BP was only slightly lower than normal when I had my booking BP taken.

Blughbablugh · 16/12/2020 19:09

@Luckyelephant1 I haven't felt faint but have had breathlessness. It was worse in the earlier weeks but not too bad now but still there. Maybe speak to your midwife. Have you had your bloods done yet?

OP posts:
MillyJS · 16/12/2020 19:24

@Luckyelephant1 I feel like that when I get out of the bath (even if it's a sensible temperature). I suddenly get really hot & feel faint & sick so have to sit down and munch on a dry cracker... joy!

Luckyelephant1 · 16/12/2020 19:55

@Blughbablugh had bloods done over 2 weeks ago but not heard anything yet. Not entirely sure if I'm supposed to chase up results myself? The midwife mumbled something like 'if you don't hear within a few days assume no news is good news' but I still want to find out either way.

The thing is its just a bit of an ordeal contacting the pregnancy unit, I'm always spoken to like I'm thick and am calling for no reason. I say always, I've literally called them twice ever in the first few weeks to chase up my self referral because the form literally said to contact them if I hadn't heard within 7 days, which was the case!!! So it's not like I'm a pest. It's pretty sad and shocking how many stories I'm reading about how pregnant women are treated everywhere. I'm in the health care industry and if I spoke to a patient the way I've been spoken to I'm sure I'd be struck off the professional register by now.

@MillyJS ah I actually stopped having baths even way before pregnancy because of feeling like that so maybe I'm just generally more prone to the effects of hot baths and showers!

Scottishskifun · 16/12/2020 21:31

@Luckyelephant1 How's your BP? I suffer from faintness/fainting when pregnant due to low BP. Having a salty food can help also clenching your bum cheeks if you do feel faint can help stop actually fainting.

@FirstTimeMummy2021 they will keep monitoring your bloods but yes it's possible you may be on iron tablets. Dark leafy greens help so brocoli, kale etc and become easier to eat! I was on iron for my last trimester with my son. Suggest keep speaking to your midwife about it as some of the side effects to the iron tablets are not fun!

AliceinBunniland · 17/12/2020 08:03

I hope everyone is okay today

@Luckyelephant1 I haven't had an issue particularly with showers but I have low BP and get lightheaded sometimes. I'm just careful about not getting up too quickly and if I need to sit for a bit then I sit for a bit.

@Blughbablugh I was feeling so breathless last night. I think it's because I feel so bloated after I eat.

So... I keep a Brita filter jug in the fridge and obviously don't wash it enough as noticed last night a small amount of black mould on it!! I took it out of the fridge to wash immediately but dread to think how much mouldy water I've drank. I do use a Brita filter water bottle too so I'm hoping it won't have done any harm and I haven't felt ill plus the water has hopefully been filtered again anyway in the drinking bottle... Envy (not envy)

I will definitely be more careful!

FirstTimeMummy2021 · 17/12/2020 09:22

Thank you @scottishskifun The iron tablets are not the best, I've had them in the past but was never great at taking them. Trying harder this time as its not just for my benefit !

My nausea is better again today, fingers crossed it keeps going in that direction! I haven't had any issues with feeling faint after a hot shower. @luckyelephant1 Sorry you're not having the best care so far. I was contacted about my low iron about 6 days after my booking bloods so is agree that no news is good news. Have you got contact details for your midwife team or is it just all dealt with via a central number?

Blughbablugh · 17/12/2020 10:08

@Luckyelephant1 I'm sorry that you are not getting the support you need. It does seem that trying to get hold of a midwife is so difficult and it is a bit of a lottery with maternity care. I think generally pregnant women have been put low down in the pile at the moment and a lot of basic care has been neglected. I had my booking in two weeks ago and only having my bloods taken today. I was worried that I wouldn't get my notes in time for my scan next week as booking in was over the phone.
Keep trying and asking the questions and I hope you get somewhere soon!

@AliceinBunniland that sounds pretty grim but I'd doubt it would do any harm especially as its only a small amount. I suffer with awful sinuses and very mild asthma anyway. My sinuses have been really terrible since I got pregnant. Last time I had really dry eyes and couldn't wear my contact lenses but that seems OK now. The joys of pregnancy!

Well I'm definitely looking forward to finishing work for Xmas. Pregnancy insomnia has hit (had it last time) so even though I'm knackered I'm not getting to sleep til 3.30/4am and then up at 7 with my toddler Xmas Sad

Need to find some of the relaxation sessions I used last time as working full time on 3 hours sleep is crap!

AliceinBunniland · 17/12/2020 11:07

@Blughbablugh I'm having the contact lens issue this time around. I don't remember it in my first pregnancy but then I was wearing them most days for work whereas now I wear glasses most days (as WFH) so maybe I notice it more as I only wear them on occasion.

I have just been given a date for my 12 week scan - next Wednesday at 8 am when I will be 12 weeks exactly. I am a bit nervous but scan at 9+5 was okay so I'm hoping everything is still okay.

jewelsx · 17/12/2020 15:09

I had to call up and get my results. Which turned out to be low iron. Give them a call maybe to be on the safe side

AliceinBunniland · 18/12/2020 11:07

@Scottishskifun Insomnia is tough. Are you having trouble falling asleep or waking up in the night? I find I wake up in the night but I have been able to get back to sleep for the most part. I find asmr videos and relaxing bedtime story podcasts can help me sleep as can an audiobook.

Both! I struggle to get to sleep and then when I do I wake after an hour Xmas Confused

I had it with my last pregnancy as well plus side at the moment is I won't have numerous colleagues telling me it's preparing me for baby and me wanting to punch them!

It's one of the symptoms I struggled with the most as I was so exhausted but still couldn't sleep for more than a few hours a night

luxxlisbon · 18/12/2020 11:46

This morning we found out we are having a girl!! I didn't care either way but it is just exciting to know something about this little bean.

AliceinBunniland · 18/12/2020 11:49

@Scottishskifun I hope it gets easier for you

@luxxlisbon That's lovely 💗 How far along are you that you have been able to find out?

luxxlisbon · 18/12/2020 11:54

I'm only 10w2 but did the sneakpeek blood test, did it at a clinic though so we could be sure there was no contamination in the result.

MaryLola · 18/12/2020 12:06

@luxxlisbon that's lovely news 💖
I'm going for my first scan today at 10w privately. It will be the first apt I have related to the pregnancy, haven't seen a doctor or midwife yet. Hopefully if everything is OK we can tell close family this weekend 🤞

AliceinBunniland · 18/12/2020 16:35

Is cramping still normal (I am 11*2)

I have a bit of an ache front and back but I get pelvic pain on my pubic bone anyway and think maybe I have more of a general stomach ache...

Flittingaboutagain · 18/12/2020 16:41

I echo the comments about feeling faint or light headed. The only thing that helps me is to sit down immediately and have an ice cold drink so I have been keeping lucazade sugar free with me WFH.

Insomnia and night time sickness are the main symptoms for me. I was up from 3am with the I'm about to throw up feels until it finally passed...at 8am when I had to start work at 8.30. I am told we'll all start to feel better mid January.

Good luck for your scan MaryLola.

I have delayed contacting the MW as I couldn't face the booking in chats that really made it all so real (and therefore worse) until I got passed the number of weeks I was when I lost my last pregnancy. I got an early scan at 7 weeks and then 10 weeks with EPU and all is well so have contacted the MW finally. Feeling so grateful and cautiously optimistic now!
