I'm 8 weeks tomorrow & was completely unaware I should be getting a flu jab 😕 Is this something midwives cover in the booking appointment or should I just get better at googling what I should be doing? 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm also feeling very nauseous. Some days I feel like I've got the worst hangover ever, but it doesn't ease off. Hoping it eases off soon!

Luckyelephant1 · 10/12/2020 13:15

I'm getting the flu jab when I have my 12 week scan on the 23rd as apparently they have a clinic running at the same time. Saves an extra trip!

I'm 9+5 and still not told anyone except husband as I'm far too anxious about early miscarriage. My manager has picked up that I'm a bit withdrawn and low (even just via Zoom meetings!) so I was really tempted to tell him today but didn't as I want parents/in laws to be the first other people to know! Just made up an excuse of feeling burnt out and winter blues lol.

3rdtimelucky2019 · 10/12/2020 13:20

My midwife mentioned for me to ring and book but the surgery rang out of the blue on Monday offering one as they have a clinic Saturday. It's well worth having. Whooping cough after 16 weeks too.

luxxlisbon · 10/12/2020 13:24

Just had my booking appointment this morning at 9+1. Apparently they do the flu jab when I go to my 12 week scan. Also found out they booked my 12 week scan for yesterday but didn’t tell me so obviously I didn’t attend. The midwife was asking me why I didn’t go and that was the first I had heard!

Blughbablugh · 10/12/2020 13:40

@luxxlisbon I would've thought having your 12 week scan at 9 weeks would be far too early. As far as I know the time frame is between 11 and 13 weeks so they can get the correct measurements. Maybe there has been a mix up?

@3rdtimelucky2019 Thank you! 😊

strawberrycherryblossom · 10/12/2020 15:38

@AliceinBunniland I had my flu jab around the time I found out I was pregnant as it was booked anyway. Never occurred to me not to! Will also get the whooping cough jab after 16 weeks.

luxxlisbon · 10/12/2020 15:54

@Blughbablugh they keep getting confused because LMP was 10 September, but I have long cycles and know I am only 9 weeks as I had a private scan but they seem to refuse to properly acknowledge that!
You would think they would have dealt with PCOS before. Today at my appointment the midwife put on my notes mid June as my EDD and I told her that was way off, she replied "it might change slightly at your scan". A whole month isn't really "slightly".

Scottishskifun · 10/12/2020 16:37

@luxxlisbon I had long cycles with my first so ended up with a scan at 10 weeks and a scan at 13 weeks. It's probably a good thing that you missed it as I remember feeling really rubbish about going back by nearly 3 weeks because I had been so ill!

luxxlisbon · 10/12/2020 16:44

@Scottishskifun to be fair I had this at two private ones, the first one LMP put me over 8 weeks and they said I was only 4 weeks. Even though I hadn't known for long I felt so bad moving back 4 weeks already! Then at my follow up 3 weeks later everything was looking good for 7+2.

I was glad that happened so early as I would have found it more stressful going for my 12 week nhs appointment and getting all excited only to be told I was only 9 but also that there was a tiny chance it wasn't progressing as obviously they couldn't be sure until I came back for another one.

All that will happen is you'll be brought back again to get the measurements you need..keep quiet, you get an extra scan 👍

Mish20 · 10/12/2020 22:20

@AliceinBunniland I have been advised to have it too as I havent had it yet. They said the hospital can give it to me at my 12 week scan or go to the gp

NamechangeTTC · 11/12/2020 19:38

I'm checking in. EPU dates fitted with my own calculation (not LMP) and at 7+0 there was a heartbeat. Still hugely anxious. 7+2 today. Have a private scan booked for 10+0 and nhs at 11+6 (they think it's 12+5)

Have had flu jag pre pregnancy for work.

Mish20 · 11/12/2020 20:06

Hi all I went for my booking appointment and had my blood test and urine test done. The midwife said there was glucose in my urine and that I have to come for further tests on Monday to check for gestational diabetes. This has really worried me as I eat very healthy and dont have many high sugar or processed foods. I am not sure what this diagnosis would mean and what I should do. I'm worried now on what I can eat. Has anyone got any experience with this that could help me?

Scottishskifun · 11/12/2020 20:19

@Mish20 gestational diebetes often isn't related to diet some people are more predispositioned to it. My friend had it with both her pregnancies and she is a marathon runner!
My bloods are always checked as my dad is diebetic so I am at greater risk.

They can ask you in for tests where you fast, followed by a high sugar drink and they check your bloods. Gestational diebetes if left out of control then can cause very large babies but also health risks for you.

Typically if you do have gestational diebetes they monitor you more closely and your more likely to give birth on a labour ward then a midwifery unit. You follow a special diet (low GI) to also help keep it under control.

I wouldn't worry as they will do full tests first and it's also very controllable

Mish20 · 11/12/2020 21:11

@Scottishskifun thanks a lot for replying. I was just feeling guilty that I have done something to cause this. Hopefully it is nothing but if I do have it then I'm happy to hear they can control it. Thanks again

FlossyFae · 12/12/2020 07:41

I have a private scan booked for 1:30 today and I am already awake feeling excited but very nervous(?) does anyone one else just worry what could go wrong etc for no reason!! I will feel so much better after this scan. I’m 9+3 today x

Sweetpea12 · 12/12/2020 09:36

@FlossyFae I feel the same I have a private scan next Saturday and I want to be excited but so nervous for it. Good luck with your scan I hope it all goes well... positive thoughts Smile

AliceinBunniland · 12/12/2020 12:14

I had an early nhs scan at 9+5 and I was very nervous. I think it's natural. Good luck.

I went for my flu jab today and the nurse wouldn't give it to me as they only give it from 12 weeks. So when my GP said to wait til 12 weeks it must be a surgery policy as no one else has said that.

Luckyelephant1 · 12/12/2020 19:47

FFS I feel like I keep doing silly things and then googling after and realising I shouldn't have done that. I found some eucalyptus oil in my house and thought oh that's nice let me put a few drops on my fireplace garland. Well I was a bit too liberal and it smells really strong, plus apparently use of essential oils is to be avoided in pregnancy particularly first trimester!!! Does this count as 'use'... I'm not exactly directly inhaling it?? Apparently air fresheners and scented candles should be avoided too. Please tell me I'm being stupidly paranoid??

Definitely not the only one doing daily googling! Not sure on essential oils, depending where you look it tells you different things, but I'm sure from just the one use it will have done absolutely nothing even if it is in the not advised category (my conclusion is that it varies oil by oil). That's what I'm trying to tell myself with stuff, anyway! And I haven't been able to resist winter spice scented candles, not sure I'd have managed this week without them!
Scottishskifun · 12/12/2020 22:14

@Luckyelephant1 step away from Dr Google!

Essential oil warnings are more for direct use so on the skin or in vaporizers/albus oil or lavender oil on a pillow etc. The warning comes because it can cross the placenta but little is known of any effects so like anything else if pregnant they go with the just avoid it warning instead!

You will honestly drive yourself bonkers if you look up every little thing.
The main things are take your vitamins, don't use ibuprofen/volterol, don't have liver or pate (too high in vitamin A/food risk), avoid raw meats, soft unpasteurised cheese, too much liquorice, raspberry leaf tea (til after 35 weeks) and keep alcohol to the minimum/none. Don't do high risk sports or suddenly take up weight lifting. Other than then that in the early days your all good when you get to past 16 weeks it's sleep on your left hand side which is a pain in the arse!

3rdtimelucky2019 · 12/12/2020 22:28

Had my flu jab today at 11+3. When I was pregnant very first time I was told flu jab at any point from positive test so 😕

FlossyFae · 13/12/2020 07:59

That’s unusual, I had my flu jab at my first midwife appointment around 8 weeks. The scan went really well they found baby really quickly and a strong heartbeat! Hopefully I can stop worrying so much now ☺️

Mish20 · 13/12/2020 08:04

@FlossyFae glad to hear your appointment went well! Must be a relief Smile
