@Sheera1 it does seem disproportionately harsh since we are not in full lockdown and no other health board has implemented this policy in Scotland (as far as I can tell.) We would be very happy with the status quo that you have in Paisley. My fingers are crossed for you that it stays that way- that’s how it should be xx

Sheera1 · 10/11/2020 20:26

@Snowwhite2020 it does seem to be as you say. I guess in the main most births are out so quickly but anyone with complications or a surgery needs the partner there. So unfair that they set to see their baby for an hour so so then bye bye. Dad's need bonding time too and all of you as the new family. I feel a bit that if the dad is coming and going twice a day here them why can't they just stay as normal? What is the added risk?

Over full lockdown from March we were like you where the dad was not allowed in the ward at all. I feel they learned from that a bit over here. There should be guidance in the Tier rules I think as this does seem really harsh. Hope it changes for you. Xx

phe694 · 10/11/2020 20:29

my little girl has been head down since 12 weeks 😅 i am actually struggling to sit down now she seems to be so low 🤣

Snowwhite2020 · 10/11/2020 20:45

@Sheera1 that’s exactly what we think... hope you feel better and hope it definitely isn’t preeclampsia for you xx

Dee96 · 10/11/2020 20:47

Does anyone else on here suffer with heart palpitations? I'm used to getting them before and during pregnancy but at the most maybe a couple a day. I've just had some weird moment and had about 21 palpitations in the past two hours now I'm freaking out to whether it is anything or not. I really dont want to spend all night in a&e and dont want to call the pregnancy advice number yet again

excitednerves · 10/11/2020 21:11

@Snowwhite2020 I’m in Northern Ireland. Our 1 hour a week is an improvement on no visiting at all (which we had a while ago) but it’s still not great.

lc86 · 10/11/2020 21:17

@Dee96 I do but that's because I'm anaemic at the moment and struggling to take the iron tablets. I'd definitely call if you're concerned just for some reassurance x

NaomiB79 · 10/11/2020 21:32

@Babyhope98 changes in BP and vision being affected (seeing stars) can be signs of preeclampsia so I would get checked if you are worried at all. I had both of these symptoms and was told that preeclampsia was likely to develop. Take care and defo phone your midwife or triage if it persists x

Babyhope98 · 10/11/2020 21:36

I just had it for 30 seconds must have sat down too quick or something. I have some self test urine strips and it’s not showing any protein in urine. But will ring in if I have it again x @NaomiB79

NaomiB79 · 10/11/2020 21:40

@Snowwhite2020 that was my experience too unfortunately, of the five days I was in hospital (three trying to be induced and two post birth) I saw my parter for only two hours of that time which was about an hour for the section and one hour in recovery after then he had to go. It was hard, not going to lie, but the midwives were great and helpful and I just used to time post birth to bond with the baby.

I had my own room so no idea why he wasn't allowed in more and do feel that he missed out on those early days to bond with the baby but we have made up for that now, he is really great with her, absolutely melts my heart to see him feeding and looking after her 💗.

I hope your time in hospital is short and you get home with your family as soon as as you can xx

@Sheera1 28th November 😊

LRHRN · 11/11/2020 06:29

@phe694 is this your first baby? When are you due?

The midwives at the hospital told me last night that it was a really good sign my baby was engaged as she's my 3rd and normally 2nd/3rd babies don't engage until labour starts so hopefully it's a sign things are starting to happen 😊

phe694 · 11/11/2020 07:13

@@LRHRN yeah she's my first baby! and the 27th of november 🥰

peachypetite · 11/11/2020 07:31

@NaomiB79 how are you doing?

Asianchick6693 · 11/11/2020 08:25

Guys tips for trapped wind/bloating? It's really painful right now and also my leg cramps are awful at night.

NaomiB79 · 11/11/2020 08:31

@peachypetite we are good thanks, settling in to being a family of three. Quinn is generally a happy and content baby, she rarely cries or gets upset apart from the obvious reasons. She had lost more than 10% of her birthweight when she got weighed on day five so we've been given a feeding plan which involves breast feeding and formula top ups every three hours which has been quite intense. Initially I was just breastfeeding and I think because she was delivered early my supply wasn't in yet and took around day 5/6 to start coming in properly. She is gaining well now tho. She is just adorable I find myself staring at her for ages just totally smitten and feel so lucky that she is ours.

How are you doing?

I jump on the thread when I can to see how everyone is doing, can't wait for more baby news as everyone else starts to have their babies xx

Awkes · 11/11/2020 09:47

Morning 👋 thanks for the tag in the new thread, not been on in a while.
I’m officially on mat leave now but having the flat painted so it’s been more work being at home tbh. Don’t know if it’s because I’ve strained myself a bit cleaning etc but I’m getting a fair bit of discharge now and on and off a lot of pressure in my pelvis. My last midwife appt she said she thinks the baby is bobbing in and out of my pelvis so putting it down to that but also wondering if this is a sign labour is on the way? Guess I’m just having a bit of a panic that baby could actually come any time now and I’m not ready at all

Kj1010 · 11/11/2020 11:02

Morning all well still not much closer to sorting out pay gotta wait now for them to go through the payroll at school etc only thing I know for sure is that they ain't paying smp to me and I did manage to get my matb1 and smp1 form so sending off that and application forms for ma off government they have pissed me off so much no support or proper communication at all so even though I have 2 days left till maternity starts I ain't gonna do nothing wen in I'm gonna let the help they hired to do it I will just show my face I was sad at first leaving but now cant wait to go I'm still undecided whether I'll even go back after the year or find new job just want these 2 days to go fast so I can concentrate on getting my stuff done and relaxing

jalu47 · 11/11/2020 12:06

For those of you in Scotland those rules seem really harsh! I'm in London, in full national lockdown, and dad's are still allowed to visit for as long as they want 8am-8pm on the wards (pre or post birth) and can be there throughout all induction and labour / birth, whatever the time of day (i.e. when you're in a private room)

LRHRN · 11/11/2020 12:10

@jalu47 that's so lucky. I'm with Royal Derby and husbands are allowed in from 4cm until you've had baby and can stay for 2 hours and then are only allowed to visit for 2hrs a day and they will be given a time slot.
I'm planning on being out as soon as possible, now I know I'm having a natural birth (all being well) after 6hrs and I can go.

Snowwhite2020 · 11/11/2020 12:14

@jalu47 glad to hear they are being reasonable regarding dads even in full lockdown- again, as it should be!

It’s not all of Scotland... it’s one district of Scotland that has this!!! Grrr. Not sure what the equivalent size of Lothian would be in England but not that big at all... Anyway I’m glad that there are lots of ladies and their partners not being forced into this situation so close to giving birth in terms of the UK as a whole and my sympathy to anyone else who is- It’s not good.

jalu47 · 11/11/2020 12:20

@LRHRN @Snowwhite2020 the only recent change to restrictions is partners are no longer allowed at growth scans (12 and 20 still ok though), so I've got to go to my 36 week one alone.

Also, no attendance at antenatal appts but that has been in place since March. I'm very relieved as thought it could be worse when they announced the second lockdown.

LRHRN · 11/11/2020 12:44

It should be the same everywhere.

What annoyed me yesterday was that I was in the hospital for 4hrs sat on my own and a prisoner was in accompanied by 2 officers
and a lady who didn't speak English had a translator with her.
I just think it's been so unfair for pregnant ladies and none of the rules make sense. I can stand in a queue with Everyman and his dog in Tesco but my husband who lives with me can't stay in a room with me to see the doctors about our baby.
We are lucky we are in a position where we have been able to have a few private scans that he has been allowed in for but a lot of people haven't got/had that luxury.

Amyyy1 · 11/11/2020 12:53

I am really starting to worry about what it's going to be like in hospital after birth. I already suffer quite badly with anxiety and panic attacks. Our hospital allows partners to stay an hour after birth then need to leave. Once we are on the ward after birth they are then allowed to book a 1 hour slot each day after. It's really darkening the experience as a FTM :( Everyone laughs at these lockdown babies but it's so so hard for everyone actually going through it all alone especially those who receive bad news. I don't understand how it lessens the risk with partners coming in and out of hospital each day rather than staying with us until we leave. 🤷🏻‍♀️
