I’m just wondering how people who have had babies so far are managing that first week at home and visitors? Realise Covid rules might affect this but I’m a bit worried about pressure from people who want to come and sit sit sit and I know I will be exhausted and just wanting time with baby and husband x

Babyevictionimminent · 16/11/2020 10:55

Congratulations @Dee96. What a good weight!

@peachypetite my pelvis feels ready to split the last 3 days. I’m incapable of walking normally now. I know his head is really low but not convinced it means much. I’m consistently waking at 3am every morning and feeling gutted that it’s nearly another night over with no labour!

peachypetite · 16/11/2020 11:18

@Snowwhite2020 all you need to say is “we can’t wait for you to meet the baby either and will let you know when we are ready for visitors”

kkr168 · 16/11/2020 11:19

Just finished at the midwife, baby's head down still, she didn't say how engaged his head was.
She has booked me in for a sweep on the 24th, 2 days before my due date, fingers crossed things move before then

Pinktruffle · 16/11/2020 11:37

Congratulations @Dee96, what an amazing weight! I bet she is adorable. Enjoy and I hope you make a quick recovery x

Snowwhite2020 · 16/11/2020 11:40

@peachypetite thanks- hood soundbite as long as it doesn’t fall on deaf ears...

@kkr168 check your midwife notes- sometimes they record it in there. For some reason it seems to be measured in fifths... not sure what means it’s more or less engaged but you could look it up!

loobeelou · 16/11/2020 11:45

Congratulations @Dee96, hope you are both doing well x

LRHRN · 16/11/2020 11:46

@Snowwhite2020 @kkr168 yeah it is measured in 5ths and should be in your notes and say ceph 2/5 for example.
Free or 5/5 means baby's head is free and 1/5 or 0/5 means fully engaged.
My baby is 2/5 but midwife said her head was very low because she could feel her head as soon as she tried to do an internal.

Hey @Snowwhite2020 - I have had the same concerns (mainly regarding MIL) and just had an honest chat with DH about making sure that we do things at the pace that's right for us and baby. I'm mindful of the fact that it will probably be him organising visits (if we're out of lockdown!) and so I found it reassuring to let him know now that il really need some respite after having baby and we as a family need time to settle. I was quite concerned about MIL as DH and I have decided not to share any photos of her until immediate family have visited - mainly based on how rubbish it felt to tell family about pregnancy over FaceTime and made us realise how, as good as tech is, it can sometimes ruin what's meant to be a special moment. MIL then got upset and stated she'd be there at the door as we left hospital! It made me feel overwhelmed and speaking to DH to clarify that this 100% won't be allowed and that if anything I will need my mum there first certainly helped! We will be setting up a group chat with the family to deliver news so everyone knows at the same time so nobody feels left out and we are hoping that this will help with those who want to visit straight away. Just be honest about what it is you and your new family need - even if it rocks the boat a little it's better than you feeling forced into a visit when you really need rest and struggling to pretend you're happy about them being there! X
december2020 · 16/11/2020 12:22

I'm currently at the day assessment unit.
They can't really explain it at the moment, though the current potential diagnosis is really really early labour. I'm currently lying in a hospital bed while the doctors are deliberating on what to do.

It's likely I'll be sent home to wait it out and then come back if I go into full blown labour.
I have 2 weeks left of work - not sure what to do, I'm going to struggle to work through labour!

LRHRN · 16/11/2020 12:39

@december2020 hope everything goes ok.
I'm assuming they will send you home and if I were you I'd finish work now. Ask for a sick note from the doctors/midwives at the hospital and just stress to them that you cannot work in the pain you're in.
Good luck and try and get some rest xx

peachypetite · 16/11/2020 12:39

Quite a few of my friends said they had far too many visitors as soon as they came home and regretted it. One positive of the corona virus means nobody will judge you for saying no!

peachypetite · 16/11/2020 12:40

@december2020 I’d be emailing work asking to start maternitt earlier.

kkr168 · 16/11/2020 12:49

@LRHRN thanks for that too, it says 3/5

cherryappl · 16/11/2020 12:51

@december2020 yep it definitely is lol I was even too scared to get a bath because I was thinking well what if my waters broke I wouldn't know then would have the baby in the bath ☠️ sound so silly now I look back at it my midwife did find it very humorous 😂

cherryappl · 16/11/2020 12:54

@december2020 just seen your at the day assessment unit hope your okay it's a good job you went to get checked I allways tell people Never ignore anything it's better to be safe than sorry, even if you feel like your being a pest. Your in the best place to be right now everything will be fine 💞 good luck!!

Dee96 · 16/11/2020 13:58

Thanks everyone just been taking today in to really get to appreciate and enjoy her since I was so drugged up when she was born it's taken a while to compute. All the midwives that have done our checks today just cant believe the size of her compared to me and even I'm starting to wonder how she fit herself in there. Hoping I will be let out tonight since I've managed to keep active and our checks are all good. Just want a good cuddle with baby in the comfort of my own bed

peachypetite · 16/11/2020 14:51

@Dee96 hope you’ll be home soon, I’m sure you’ll rest better there. It will take you a while to process it I am sure, take care x

Snowwhite2020 · 16/11/2020 16:12

Hope you get home soon @Dee96 xx

excitednerves · 16/11/2020 16:55

@Babyevictionimminent I feel exactly the same! Every morning I’m disappointed that I’ve held in for another day. So ready to have this baby out now.

december2020 · 16/11/2020 17:13

Thank you everyone!
Turns out my waters have broken and it's basically put my body into contraction mode with them 3 minutes apart. So not just cramps.

I'm having another cervical check soon.
If it's dilating then off to labour I go.
It not, then monitoring overnight and I think I'll be given something to try keep him in there for another week to grow.

I did not see this coming today!

Best of luck @december2020! How early are you?

Snowwhite2020 · 16/11/2020 17:31

@december2020 good luck! Not sure if this was the news you would want or not- how far along are you now? Xx

LRHRN · 16/11/2020 17:33

@december2020 oh wow! It's a good job you went in, I would of never thought your waters had gone 😱 just shows they can go without you really knowing.
Good luck xxxx
