excitednerves · 12/11/2020 20:09

@Sheera1 good luck! How exciting you’ll meet your baby so soon!

MsBee13 · 12/11/2020 20:19

@Sheera1

Hi all. So all go here. My section was booked for Monday but they called me ytday afternoon and said Monday was overbooked and would I move my surgery.

They were meaning later next week but I asked for this Friday as better for paternity leave and had actually asked a few weeks ago about moving it and they said yes!

So was in for pre-OP obs today and in at crack of dawn tomorrow!

Yay, amazing! Good luck xx
excitednerves · 12/11/2020 20:20

@LRHRN were they ok with you refusing the induction? I’m worried if I need to go in again with reduced movements that they’ll suggest it.

As for scans I’ve had loads. I was scanned fortnightly at the beginning then every 3 weeks since, so maybe 10 or 11?

peachypetite · 12/11/2020 20:51

@LRHRN well done for standing your ground. Just finished the positive birth company’s course and I feel so much more empowered to not just go along with what the midwives/doctors say. She has a few videos on the course about induction and unless absolutely necessary I would decline too. There was also another video about the whole due date and how we get fixated on it, some people even getting booked in for future induction as soon as they hit their due date when it’s not set in stone that’s when baby will come, and then you are stressed out hoping the baby will come naturally beforehand, stress is the complete opposite of oxytocin! So unless clinically necessary I am really hoping for spontaneous labour. If induction cannot be avoided she gave some good tips for trying to make it work for you.

kkr168 · 12/11/2020 20:53

@Sheera1 Good luck for tomorrow

I've had 3 NHS scans & 2 private

I completely lost the plot today & stripped the kitchen wall tiles, been wanting to do it for ever but 2 weeks till due date is probably not the best time to start!!

jalu47 · 12/11/2020 21:08

Best of luck for tomorrow @Sheera1! Hope you get some good rest tonight Grin

Dee96 · 12/11/2020 22:18

@peachypetite I'm having serious doubts about my induction on sunday as well. They keep claiming my baby is measuring big belly wise but she seems very content down there and I almost feel bad to start a process which includes aloud of drugs chugged through us both and will most likely lead to needing intervention when scans have such a large margin for error either side. I cant help but feel like if I hold on she may come soon after my induction date on her own. I want to give us both a fair chance for this labour. I was given a leaflet on inductions and it says that the benefits out weigh the risks but the sound of an intense and slow labour doesnt seem like the best ordeal to put yourself in. I'm just still sceptical I'm doing the right thing for me and baby, how is anyone meant to make a decision based off undefinitive scans?

LRHRN · 13/11/2020 06:33

@excitednerves absolutely fine. They said because my first 2 babies were born before their due dates this one is likely to do the same anyway. Also because I'm not 39weeks yet it could take 3-4days to induce and still not work and end up with a caesarean so to me seems pointless. She's advised I discuss with my midwife about being induced on my due date if she hasn't already come.
I've been contracting for a while now and showing obvious signs of early labour so just going to see what happens now. I'm 38weeks tomorrow so fingers crossed it could be any time.
I agree about the due date as I've been told 3 in early pregnancy. Im looking at is as my baby will definitely be here in the next 4 weeks no matter what so it could be any day, I'm taking it a day at a time xx

peachypetite · 13/11/2020 06:33

@Dee96 is it because baby is big or for any other reason? My trust say that’s not a reason to induce.

excitednerves · 13/11/2020 06:41

Oh good luck @LRHRN sounds like baby might be imminent!

LRHRN · 13/11/2020 07:33

@excitednerves I hope so but knowing my luck it will be 42 weeks 😖 xx

Snowwhite2020 · 13/11/2020 08:46

@Dee96 I understand the position you are in after being told the baby is big. It is difficult to manage mentally re: birth and make the right decisions. Listen to your heart and your intuition either way. I don’t believe, personally, that there is an easy decision xx

peachypetite · 13/11/2020 09:09

Good luck today @Sheera1!!!!!!

Dee96 · 13/11/2020 09:09

@peachypetite they're treating me as if I have gestational diabetes even though they

ever did any official testing and throughout my whole pregnancy couldnt work out if I have it or not, they've now decided (from nothing) I do. But I was under the assumption the main reason why I'm being induced is because I'm tiny and baby is big along with dp. They threw in this whole shoulders getting stuck thing last minute when they tried to stick me on the big baby trial which turned out I was never eligible for anyways because of my heart palpitations. So really it's all a big giant mess. I'd rather have a sweep first to see if we can get the ball moving naturally

jalu47 · 13/11/2020 09:15

@Dee96 I'm going to find myself in exactly the same position next week, except they have thrown in the option for c-section too. Baby is big (according to scans) and I'm diet controlled for diabetes. My tests never showed i had it but i started the finger prick testing and they said because I got a few high readings that's a diagnosis.

36 week scan on Tues and will take it from there - its soooo hard to make a decision re induction, section or just waiting. The consultant threw in the shoulder getting stuck thing and that seems the most scary thing but hard to know how likely that would be. Best of luck with your decision - you'll know what's right for you!

LRHRN · 13/11/2020 09:19

@Dee96 do what feels right for you. They can't tell you the size of baby accurately it's an algorithm so really not great. How can they say you've got GD if they've not tested you? That's ridiculous, it's like saying you've got preeclampsia without doing your blood pressure 🤷🏼‍♀️
They did this to my friend and told her that she would have to have csection because the baby was almost 10lb at 36weeks. She had the csection just after 38weeks and he was 7lb 8oz so a complete waste and unnecessary trauma.

If I was you I'd come up with a plan with the midwife to not let you go over 40weeks and just try and let nature take it's course first. Remember it's your choice, I've asked for no medical intervention unless it's absolutely vital for mine or baby's wellbeing

LRHRN · 13/11/2020 09:21

@jalu47 @Dee96 remember with inductions they aren't always successful and can take days to attempt (you'll be sat in hospital alone) and it could lead to an emergency csection anyway if it doesn't work.

It's such a hard decision to make and knowing which is right to do for the best xx

Snowwhite2020 · 13/11/2020 09:24

@Dee96 if you want a sweep- go with that. I’d phone the midwife and discuss your concerns and feelings. They need to support you x

peachypetite · 13/11/2020 09:25

@Dee96 according to NICE guidelines, suspected big baby on its own is not a reason for induction so that is surprising. I had a consultant appointment after my scan at 34 weeks revealed baby had grown faster than expected and she sent me for a GD test (negative). Consultant said shoulder dystocia is not able to be predicted from ultrasound scans, predictions of big babies are often incorrect and so I'm just on track to have a natural vaginal birth. I would do some more research and weigh up the benefits, risks and whatever you decide make sure you are happy with the decision and do not feel pressured into it. www.rcog.org.uk/globalassets/documents/patients/patient-information-leaflets/pregnancy/pi-shoulder-dystocia.pdf

Babyhope98 · 13/11/2020 10:06

@jalu47 did you get your blood test results for the itching? X

Dee96 · 13/11/2020 10:10

@jalu47 sounds like were in identical situations! They did the exact same to me, didnt give me a test but told me to monitor by finger pricking, had a few high (but still average for non pregnancy) results that depending on the midwife I saw said it was okay for some and too high for others. They put me on the diet which I didnt follow after a while because I found it all stupid and pointless considering no one confirmed I had gd. Then throughout the rest of my pregnancy it consisted off alot of medics asking me whether I had gd because they couldnt seem to work it out! Like I'd know! Now all the sudden they want to act like I do to justify an induction and i cant help but get the feeling they're only acting like this to cover their own backs worst case scenario. No ones actually asked me if i want to go ahead with an induction instead I've just been expected to go along with the motion. It's hard to make such a huge decision when the people that are meant to be professionals cant seem to make one themselves. And all these risks scare and make me feel obliged to do it. But from what I can find the shoulders getting stuck depends more on positioning rather than sizing. And plenty of women have had easy births with a big baby compared to when they had smaller ones. So who's to say!
