@TheDaydreamBelievers ❤️

Queenbee95 · 20/11/2020 09:44

@Mc1989 it really depends on your midwife/gp practice. My dh came with me to my 16 week appointment yesterday

ladymary86 · 20/11/2020 12:40

@TheDaydreamBelievers I'm so sorry you've had bad news. Thinking of you... take care 💐 x

rosegoldivy · 20/11/2020 16:39

@Thedaydreambelievers oh I am so so sorry to hear your news, please take care of yourself xx

rosegoldivy · 20/11/2020 16:43

I've just caught back up with the thread, glad to hear all your updates.
I'm another under FV, but my mw is north Lanarkshire and I've had no issues.

The news of the twins is finally public knowledge! Feel so much better it's out there and everyone knows. Everyones reaction that we were having twins was the same... "ohhh my goddd"

Has anyone one here decided NOT to have any of the screening tests done? I had first appointment at the twin clinic and after speaking to my consultant I decided against any of the tests. (had all of them for DD1)

Queenbee95 · 20/11/2020 16:55

@rosegoldivy I didn’t have the tests done. The midwife asked me at my booking if I’d terminate if there was any problems and I said no so she put me down for no testing

Sexnotgender · 20/11/2020 18:43

I didn’t have the screening tests last time, there was a massive age gap between my 2 so we’d have dealt with whatever we had in front of us and it wouldn’t really have impacted anyone’s lives other than ours.

I decided to have the screening done this time as our little boy will only just be 2 and a potentially severely disabled sibling would massively have affected his life.

Aprilsun20 · 20/11/2020 19:29

Hello,

I am 8 weeks with first baby. I have my first appointment with the midwife next week. The letter does not say anything about bringing partner or attending alone. Not sure because of covid rules. I can phone on Monday to check but just wondered if anyone knew? I am in Edinburgh.

Thanks!

fattymumbum · 20/11/2020 19:31

We didn't have the screening tests done either. We specifically said no. We wouldn't want to terminate and I didn't want to think about odds all the time. I figure if some measurements are odd during the screening scan then we'll have an idea that something may be wrong with baby and prepare from there.
We found out for our first because even though my boyfriend said he would never terminate, I had considered it. Odds came back fine then. I just don't feel the same now. I'm two years older so age isn't on my side, so though statistics would look bad anyway to me!!.

rosegoldivy · 20/11/2020 20:18

I had actually went in wanting the screening done, but had to speak to the twin consultant as it is a bit different for twins. If got the tests done, if a result came back high risk they wouldnt know which twin it was. And then if they wanted to find out more and do more tests there could be a risk to losing both babies. Soon as I heard there could be a risk to both pregnancies that changed my mind. I would be too stressed out about a high risk result coming back.
.
They booked me in for my 20 week appointment on 12th Jan, and considering Xmas is pretty much next week it will be here in no time!!!

fattymumbum · 20/11/2020 20:34

@rosegoldivy not the same as I'm not pregnant with twins but I wouldn't want to be walking around for over half the pregnancy worrying about a theoretical risk, so I see what you mean.

HeyDW96 · 20/11/2020 21:25

@Aprilsun20 I didn't take my partner to my booking appointment, I never even thought to to be honest. It's really just meeting your midwife, they'll ask you lots of questions about yourself, your health and your partner. They will ask about your families medical history as that can impact you and your pregnancy potentially. They'll take your BP and maybe some blood (health boards can vary), give you your vitamins and usually just tell you what your antenatal care will be like (future appointments and scans). Unless your partner specifically needs to be there then they will probably want to limit their footfall through the surgery doors at the moment.

rosegoldivy · 20/11/2020 21:59

@fattymumbum that's exactly it! A theoretical risk! If I had done the tests and one twin result came back high risk, I wouldn't then want to put both babies at risk to do more invasive tests to find out which twin/which condition they may or may not have. So I would just be stressing and worrying the rest of the pregnancy. And let's face it the thought of twins is stressful enough hahaha

fattymumbum · 21/11/2020 04:07

@rosegoldivy I can't image the thought of twins right now! Haha!!

Is your sickness any better now?. I'm 16 weeks now, and they are there but I can function. Mostly just feel like an old hag though, about 75 I would say!!

Queenbee95 · 21/11/2020 07:49

@rosegoldivy I was told the same with my first pregnancy (the twins were in the same sac, sharing placenta, so assuming they were identical?) unfortunately twin B didn’t make it past 11 weeks, but the screening tests would still not be able to be done properly because I didn’t miscarry so twin B was still there at 12 week scan. Anyway they only took NT at scan and didn’t do the bloods.

@Aprilsun20 I’m in north Edinburgh and my dh came with me to my 16 week appointment on Thursday. It Varys depending on midwife/gp practice so you really would have to phone and ask. The booking appointment is just a massive conversation about yours/partners health, etc, there’s nothing really “exciting” at that point

Gaxy1 · 21/11/2020 09:23

I’ve started eating a second breakfast when I get to work. And having a more substantial lunch. It seems to have helped quite a bit with the sickness.

Queenbee95 · 21/11/2020 10:03

@Gaxy1 I feel like I never wanted to eat because of my sickness but eating did actually make it so much easier to cope with! I found it got worse when I was hungry

Gaxy1 · 21/11/2020 10:06

@Queenbee95 I think I underestimated how much I needed to eat. The grazing all day didn’t really help. My GP did suggest eating more sugar as it can be related to low blood sugar. I think I’m starting to get used to feeling like crap all the time too.

Queenbee95 · 21/11/2020 10:17

@Gaxy1 how many weeks are you now? I found bland foods helped me, I ate a lot of toast and bagels

Gaxy1 · 21/11/2020 10:19

@Queenbee95 I’m almost 9 weeks. I’ve had nausea since the beginning. Even had small waves of it before I found out I was pregnant. How far are you?

Welliedays · 22/11/2020 11:44

@gaxy1 definitely eat little and often. I had rich tea biscuits that helped as well as salt and vinegar crisps, bread of any type and chips. I wouldn't go long without having a biscuit and it did seem to help (I'm now 18 weeks and thankfully well past the nausea)

Gaxy1 · 22/11/2020 12:23

@Welliedays when did your morning sickness stop?

sunnysideup3 · 22/11/2020 17:35

This week has been really tough. Don't think I've ever experienced such fatigue in my life. I struggled to simply put dinner on my plate and then I had to lay down before I had the energy to eat. I finally have my booking appt next week, can't wait to talk to someone about this. Nausea in the evening and night doesn't help either. I'm 11+3 weeks.

I know it varies for everyone but does it get better? If so, when? 😄

Hope everyone is having a good weekend x

Sexnotgender · 22/11/2020 17:38

It does get better! I feel positively chipper today 😂 I’ve been awake since 5! I’m 20+1.

Queenbee95 · 22/11/2020 17:45

@Gaxy1 I’m 17 weeks now, my sickness and nausea stopped around week 10/11. Had an awful day today with nausea on and off which has been an unwelcome surprise.

I’ve also been feeling the fatigue. Feeling like I need a nap in the afternoons again. Having dizzy spells too, hoping it’s not a sign of low iron
