@SunnySideUp2020 I packed 10 nappies and a pack of maternity pads. She didn’t get through loads of nappies and we were in for 3 days.

Same with pads, I didn’t get through as many as I thought I would, but that’s probably because I had a section.

Ejb86 · 31/01/2021 11:04

@mlax I keep doing the same. I'm telling her she has to wait until 37 weeks, then she can come whenever she likes!

I'm almost sorted with everything, prepping for a home birth so I've gone into major organising mode.

Not feeling too bad, just fat and fed up. Starting to find it hard to do things like pick up items off the floor, or anything that involves me standing for an extended period of time.

The clingy 3 year old is a delight too! Basically wants me in his bed all night, which then makes me ache.

Apart from that all good!

Are you all ready?

SunnySideUp2020 · 31/01/2021 12:07

Thanks @TerribleImagination

@Ejb86
Didnt know you were planning homebirth! Awesome!!!
Do you have a pool?

mlax · 31/01/2021 13:53

Haha yes like me! @Ejb86 I really want to have a home birth but I live in an apartment so don't really think it's practical as there really isn't the space. When I have another 😂 I'll be moved into a house then as that is the aim, so hopefully then! How exciting though. I've just bought loads of new things for the apartment ready for his arrival so think I've entered nesting mode too!

I've actually just got back from a walk and it shouldn't have taken as long as it did. Waddling, constant need for Forrest pees (no shame, when you gotta go...!)

Bless him, probably taking as much advantage as he can before his sibling comes along 🥰

I think I'm all ready though! His nursery is set up etc still need to pack my hospital bag for my side of things however. Just ready to not feel completely useless and be able to not pee so much haha x

Ejb86 · 31/01/2021 15:56

Yes @SunnySideUp2020. The pool is on order, they will be phoning me on Friday to confirm, take payment and book in delivery. I have the midwife coming on Tuesday to do a homebirth assessment and so that she can talk hubby through all the equipment she has with her in case of an emergency, as that's something he's worried about.

He's recently been diagnosed as having PTSD after losing the twins, so one of my main reasons for having a homebirth is to have him with me all the time and for it to hopefully be a healing process. My due date with this one is within a week of the twins' due date last year too.

We have a snug area off the dining room which is where the pool will be set up. I've written positive affirmations on the mirror and I'm going to put up some fairy lights so it is all cosy.

I'm really looking forward to it, I'm lucky that homebirths here haven't been affected by covid, they have in many places.

MilsCookie · 01/02/2021 03:08

@ChampooPapi 🤯🤯🤯 tell me this gets easier. PLEASE 🙏 both have bad reflux and we've just spent 5 hours this evening trying to settle two very cry-ey, colicky babies. I am on my last knees. I don't want to complain at all because I love them so much, but it's so so hard when you've only had 2 hours sleep the previous night, built on nights and nights of no sleep! We currently have one each to sleep but it's not even the actual nights that are bad. It's the evenings from about 6pm. They are awake the entire time till they fall asleep from exhaustion at around midnight and basically just cry unless they are held. I have been crying all evening because I just feel like such a shit mum that I can't comfort my own babies.

ChampooPapi · 01/02/2021 13:08

@MilsCookie sorry I've only just got back to you in your hour of need, it's absolutely horrendous sometimes it truly is. two babies are a bloody nightmare ! One of ours is on gaviscon too. Now for the reassurance part my love, I promise it gets so much easier, there is a huge turning point in babies sleep and temperament genrally around 12 weeks.

And twins are no different, mine went through the worst around 8 weeks, it was hell on earth. But suddenly bang on 11 weeks one started sleeping through the whole night, and soon after the smaller one started doing longer stretches. Plus that witching hour (or 4) in the evening actually became an hour of crying and fussing rather then 4! You are nearly there I promise , you are running on empty now which makes it so hard but you will get through this one day at a time. Each day is a day closer to it being better xxx

MilsCookie · 01/02/2021 15:00

Thank you @ChampooPapi. The problem is mine cry during the day as well. I fed them at 1pm and since then they've been so uncomfortable and screaming since then. Something clearly isn't right. 😔 I'm going out of my mind! Did yours have reflux or anything? I think mine have a cow's milk protein allergy and reflux but it could be something else.

kkr168 · 01/02/2021 22:01

@MilsCookie my son is suspected to have cows milk protein allergy (cmpa). He had awful reflux that led to him screaming (a really painful sounding cry) most of the day, spots all over his face that got worse with every feed, by the end his ears were split & bleeding, explosive diarrhea which became constipation after using gaviscon, hiccups all the time, congested, low weight gain, sure there's more! On the 21st Jan he started his new prescription milk, within days of using this milk most of his symptoms were gone, his skin is perfect again, he still has mild reflux but it doesn't really bother him.
Things the Drs made us try......
Gaviscon, didn't really help his reflux & led to constipation, so we stopped using it. Infacol & gripe water, made him worse. They then prescribed aptimal comfort milk (can be purchased in Tesco without prescription), it's a low lactose milk, this seemed to be working & as its thicker his reflux was so much better at 1st but he suffered from constipation again & after about 1 week his cmpa symptoms reappeared with a vengeance. I rang the Dr again, said I suspected cmpa & expected to have to put up a fight for a milk prescription but she agreed & put him on his current milk, SMA alfamino.
I'm not sure if your breast or formula feeding, if breast cut out all dairy from your diet if you suspect cmpa, if bottle contact your GP & explain their symptoms. The milk is expensive though so the drs will make you try the cheaper options 1st, gaviscon, comfort milk, etc, my GP was brilliant but I know alot of people have to really fight to get the correct milk prescribed.
I've added some pictures, the red & blue stripes was him at his worst, green outfit was taken 2 days later, already you can see the change, he still has some spots but the redness is gone & the final picture was taken yesterday, look at my happy smily boy with beautiful flawless skin.

kkr168 · 01/02/2021 22:16

@MilsCookie I've just read back & seen you are on a prescribed formula & gaviscon, teach me for not reading back 1st 🤦🏻‍♀️
Which formula have they been prescribed? Some still contain low amounts of dairy, if they are still reacting they may need a milk that contains no dairy, soya, etc like alfamino, I believe neocate is another make.
If it's just the reflux that's now causing issues the Drs can prescribe things other then gaviscon, from what I've read gaviscon doesn't work for the majority of babies, so definitely call your GP again. I was told by my GP to call back after 48 hours if there was no improvement.

MilsCookie · 02/02/2021 03:13

Hey @kkr168 thank you so much for taking the time to write to me. That's so brilliant your little boy is doing so much better! I can't believe the difference in those photos in such a short space of time, you must be so relieved to have found a solution! Seeing them in pain is the most horrendous thing. I called the GP again today and said I was desperate and she prescribed Neocate, which we have to trial for the next week to see if symptoms improve. Last week we were given Nutramigen formula but it still has small amounts of cow's milk in it. We saw an improvement for the first few days but then like you their symptoms have come back the last few days. The only difference with my girls is that they don't have any skin rashes anywhere so I'm not sure it definitely is a CMPA? Anyway we got the Neocate this afternoon so they've had 3 feeds now with this new formula aaaaaand I don't want to speak too soon, but they do seem a little bit more settled. Frankie slept for 6 hours straight 😳 after not sleeping all day! (Could've just been exhaustion though). REALLY hope this will help them 🙏🙏🙏 would you say your little boy's symptoms have gone completely now he's on the SMA Alfamino?

MilsCookie · 02/02/2021 03:15

@kkr168 he's absolutely gorgeous by the way. What a smile!! 😍

kkr168 · 02/02/2021 04:36

@MilsCookie yes, his symptoms almost disappeared from the 1st bottle, except the reflux but even that is so much better. The amino milks are very thin, which doesn't help with reflux, I did try using a thickener called carobel but his rash flared up again, which apparently means he's possibly allergic to soya also!!
It's strange but to me even his cry is different now, he no longer sounds like he's in pain. His breathing is better because he's no longer congested, I hadn't even associated his bunged up nose with cmpa but it's cleared completely since being on the milk.

I really hope things keep improving for your babies xx

MilsCookie · 02/02/2021 11:27

@kkr168 wow, that's amazing. You must be so relieved to have found a solution for him. And to see him so much happier! It makes me sad that they've been in pain/uncomfortable for so long 😔. Well it's now 11:30 and the girls have been asleep the whole morning, apart from waking for their mid morning feeds and staying awake for half an hour or so after. Usually at this time I'd be wishing they'd go to sleep and end up taking them out in the pram to get them to drift off. They have been absolutely fine at the end of their bottles, hardly any wind and no crying!! Surely the milk can't have worked as quickly as that?! I'm hoping it's not just a coincidence that they're now like this and the old milk was actually the cause of all the crying! It's such a relief to see them looking peaceful ❤️🙏

Whiffle77 · 02/02/2021 14:19

Ahhh lots of love to you @MilsCookie, its so hard when you don't feel like you can fix whatever is wrong, you end up feeling so helpless. Plus sleep deprivation makes everything 1000 times worse.

So glad things seem more settled for you with new milk, im really keeping my fingers crossed that this keeps on improving for you all!

Our little man has gone backwards sleep wise this week, and decided 2am is when sleep starts. Been a fair few sobs myself!!! Once he gets to sleep he then sleeps for a long amount of time with a feed in the middle, but we are just at a loss as to how to bring that forward! I was quite laid back about his sleep before I read about wake windows and now I'm thinking about when he should be asleep constantly. And how to work his daytime naps so that he starts his night earlier. I honestly have no clue Confused not sure if it is too early to be trying to get a routine in place either and I should just let him find his own way

But he is 10 weeks tomorrow, which has flown by! Hes such a chunky monkey.

Hope everyone else is OK this week. Very jealous of those planning pool births, I would've loved that! x

MilsCookie · 02/02/2021 19:43

Thank you @Whiffle77 ... and sorry you're struggling with the sleep side of things! When is awake from before he falls asleep at 2am? Also where did you read about wake windows? I feel I need to read more about this... x

Whiffle77 · 04/02/2021 08:29

Gah I wrote a huge reply yesterday and it deleted it! So annoying.

How are your ladies @MilsCookie are they still more settled?

We have had a much better two nights so I feel human again. I really don't do well with sleep deprivation, I'm lucky that my DH is as calm as they come.

Don't look up wake windows!! Just something else to worry about!! They are how long a baby "should" be awake for between sleeps, for our babies it is about 1.5 hours. F regularly does more than that awake and I was getting myself in a tizz about when he should be asleep etc. I've given myself a talking to as he is a very happy boy and (usually) sleeps ok overnight, so why am I stressing? I am forcing him into a couple of naps a day now tho as I assumed he would sleep when he was tired but that isn't always the case.

For other people fighting nap times, we have been listening to rockabye baby on Spotify and it works a treat on him. Just may send us mad!!

How is everyone else, @Fizzl have you had your scan?

Fizzl · 04/02/2021 19:55

@Whiffle77 it really has flown by for us! It's going so quick it makes me feel a bit panicky that I'll never get everything ready in time 😂

@Leok83 your nursery is so lovely! I need to start getting some inspiration and yours looks amazing! Cant wait to start planning ours now.

Lots of useful advice re nappies and pads etc - thanks ladies! I feel like there is so much to figure out! What do you even bring a baby home in from the hospital when it's June and the weather could be quite warm?! I feel like this baby needs to come with an instruction manual!

@MilsCookie ah I'm sorry you're having such a tough time. I've just worked with someone who was caring for a very refluxy/colicky baby and it was horrendous. After trying various different prescription milks they finally found one which helped. Hopefully this passes for you.

Just had my 20 week scan today - everything is perfect 🥰 such a huge relief! Finally feel like the spending spree can begin now and we can get excited! We found out what we're having too! We're keeping it a surprise at the minute from everyone but I'm desperate to tell! I wonder if anyone recognises me on here and I'd give it away 🤔

SunnySideUp2020 · 04/02/2021 20:39

Awww such lovely news. Glad to see your scan went well 💕💕💕 @Fizzl

I am dying to know. I have a feeling it is a girl though 😊

Hope everyone else is ok.

Sorry you are having such a tough time @MilsCookie
Sending hugs to you mamma xx

Annny27 · 04/02/2021 20:41

Exciting @fizzl :D

I promise I do not know any body who is pregnant so message me the gender 🤣🤣🤣

Leok83 · 04/02/2021 20:50

That's fantastic news @Fizzl!! So exciting now all, it's such a good feeling now to be able to go and buy stuff knowing everything is good😊
Can't wait to find out what you are having!! Xx

Whiffle77 · 05/02/2021 08:18

Ahhh @Fizzl thats great news. Really pleased for you!! 🥳🍾

SunnySideUp2020 · 05/02/2021 09:11

So i started reading the gina ford contented baby book and i am mind blown...
I know so little.

@Fizzl
Yes to the instructions manual!!!!!

As for June clothes, such a tricky one. June in UK was either steaming hot or miserably cold and raining.
I think you have to plan for both..

I am doing the same for my edd at 3rd april in the 0 to 3 months clothes i bought.
Mix of long sleeve and short sleeves.
Pants and shorts...
But i would think a newborn needs to be properly dressed even if it's 25 degrees.
So yours will probably need a onesie with vest under and some blanket.
