Thank you for explaining @Bluebell2020 It sounds like they have made the right decision for you and your baby. It's great you are doing this at full term. A friend of the family had her baby a couple of weeks ago at 36 weeks and all was well and no real intervention was needed

NaomiB79 · 31/10/2020 07:02

Hi all just a wee update on what feels like the longest induction ever! The first set of drugs did nothing in 24 hours so they administered some more at 4.30pm yesterday. I was having 4 contractions in 10 minutes last night but wasn’t dilated to 2cm so they couldn’t break my waters or move me to the labour ward yet.

They gave me pain relief and I’ve slept most of the night. I think my contractions have stopped now as I’m not in any pain anymore 🙈. They are due in this morning to check on me again. Can’t seem to progress to the next stage!

Don't think this baby or my body are quite ready to come yet! Hopefully will make more progress today. I'm still on my own as DP not allowed in yet xx

december2020 · 31/10/2020 07:15

@NaomiB79 keeping my fingers crossed and super glad you managed to sleep most of the night. How are you feeling?

I had my midwife appointment yesterday. Baby seems to be back on track on the 50th percentile (last measurement was over the 97th). My fasted blood sugar came back normal, just waiting on the HbA1C results.
Instead they found a protein trace in my urine
So who knows what's happening 🤷‍♀️

I'm a FTM and it's suddenly hitting me that "crap, I'm going to be a mother". I think so much focus was going into conceiving and being pregnant I haven't really thought about once he actually arrives! It still feels like a concept.

Sheera1 · 31/10/2020 07:53

Hi @naomib79 oft that is a long time. You must be so fed up already. Will they not progress to the drip? My induction failed (10 yes ago) I did have a small gush about 12hours after first round (like 10mls of water on the bed and the decided it was a small break in waters and took me to labour ward. Had another round that morning about 9am and think they started the drip about 12 ish. Was still on it at 9 when I didn't ever progress passed 1cm dilated and had an emergency section in the end. Fingers crossed things start to progress. Not going to lie, the drip contractions were pretty painful and very frequent from the get go. Hope DP gets to come in soon. Sending hugs xx

Sheera1 · 31/10/2020 07:56

@december2020 This is my 2nd but a 10 yr gap and I feel the same as you. I had an mmc at 12 weeks a couple of yrs ago so this pregnancy is very much been going from milestone to milestone and not really thinking about leaving that hospital with another living person. I am freaking out a bit. I think we all do and once it is here you just dedicate everything to his/her care and become a researcher and take each step as it comes. Nothing prepares you for how much you are going to love this wee bundle. Xx

BG1234 · 31/10/2020 07:59

@december2020- I’m 37 weeks and have been measuring big- 97th centile at 36 weeks. Then went for growth scan and afterwards the consultant said it’s big but healthy.
But then I’ve had another scare because they’ve found +1 protein in my urine on Thursday. She mentioned preeclampsia but I’m low risk for that (no normal) so was given antibiotics for a urine infection. Then got a call yesterday saying that after further testing it’s not an infection and they need another sample because it could be the start of preeclampsia Confused
Are they monitoring you to see if your levels go up or are they leaving it because it’s just a trace?

BG1234 · 31/10/2020 08:01

That was supposed to be ‘(bp normal)’

NaomiB79 · 31/10/2020 08:15

Thanks @Sheera1, They won't put me on the drip until my waters have broken / been broken and they won't do that until I'm 2cms so trying all the pessaries and tablets to get me to that stage.

I heard that once you are on the drip the contractions are really intense so that's when to ask for an epidural if I want one (I will defo be doing that).

I think I have a v low pain threshold I'm struggling with the internal examinations, they had to give me gas and air to get through the one last night 🙈!!

jalu47 · 31/10/2020 08:20

@december2020 so glad to hear your fasting came back normal! I've not had an HbA1c test (at least I don't think I have)... think I've got the hang of the diet and my glucose testing levels are in good shape. Can't lie I'm missing the sugar a bit, bit depressing I can't have a biscuit with my tea but I do feel a bit better, like I've got more energy so maybe I was feeling the effects a bit.. I've lost 2.5lbs this week but guess that's to be expected and I've got plenty to spare lol.

@NaomiB79 hoping that things speed up for you today, will you have an October or November baby?!

Anyone slightly concerned about the news today about possible national lockdown? My hospital is pretty open at the moment, partners allowed at induction etc, but worried this will now change 😕

peachypetite · 31/10/2020 09:06

Oh @NaomiB79 how frustrating, you must be fed up! Hang in there. I am glad you got some sleep though. I’m also wondering what kind of state things will be in my due date at the end of the month. Again it will probably depend a lot on the individual hospitals. I’m guessing my husband will be allowed in with me to see consultant on Monday and who knows after that. I have just booked myself a haircut and pedicure ASAP tho!!!

Snowwhite2020 · 31/10/2020 09:13

@NaomiB79 aw hun been thinking of you. Sorry to hear you are not getting the progression you had hoped for yet. It must be difficult to do this part alone. We are also in Scotland central belt and not happy about the restrictions which have come back in (no partners until “active labour” and then they have to leave after one to two hours once the baby is born and can’t come back and no other visitors at all full stop.) This is hard on mothers and partners. @jalu47 These are the rules in Scotland now (central belt/ Glasgow to Edinburgh and most in between and either side) and we are not in full lockdown so god knows what they might do if we do go into full lockdown. I do hope they will as a minimum honour the basic human right of a birth partner in labour. Everyone I know in maternity seems to think so... so fingers crossed.

Naomi, you are a warrior girl- keep going! Remember baby is not far away and soon you will get to hold them and this will all be a distant memory! This too shall pass.... xxx

NaomiB79 · 31/10/2020 09:27

@Snowwhite2020 thanks you, yeah it's tough on my own but need to keep my eye on the prize, I will have my baby girl in my arms in the next few days!

The current rules which you explained in your post are what they put back in place this week which is also what happened during the first strict lockdown. I hope that means they won't be tightened any further even if we do go back into a national lockdown as the only other step they can take is no partners at all and that would be awful!

Kj1010 · 31/10/2020 09:39

@NaomiB79 sorry things ain't progressing as fast as u want I was induced with my girl I was put on the drip after a few hours as wasnt working but my waters had gone hence why I was took in and also had green stuff coming out I didn't have anything apart from gas and air yes the drip makes ur contractions come quicker and more intense but it only took an hour from start to finish once on drip for baby to come I hope things progress for u so u can have ur partner there that's my fear of being induced and oh not being allowed in till active labour ty for keeping us updated tho

Snowwhite2020 · 31/10/2020 09:41

@NaomiB79 @Kj1010 hope KJs experience gives you hope that things can move quickly all of a sudden Naomi. Love to you and will be thinking of you today xxx

loobeelou · 31/10/2020 09:46

@NaomiB79 I had an epidural with DS after I started on the drip. It worked for me, it helped with the pain, I relaxed and finally got to 10cm.

Good luck, you can do this 😊

kkr168 · 31/10/2020 11:10

@Jalu47 the threat of another nationwide lockdown is so depressing!
I'm not so much worried about the birth because I can't see them stopping birth partners, but I'm worried about the financial implications.
My husband has taken on a huge job that we have invested thousands in, on materials that are currently being manufactured. They're due to be delivered on the 18th, so that the job can start, if lockdown happens then manufacturing will stop (I'd imagine as non essential). We'd literally have no income, savings wiped on materials, I honestly don't know what we'd do.

Kj1010 · 31/10/2020 11:38

I'm also worried about this lockdown as still havent got everything we need not that we need major things but the thought of having to maybe get out this week to get everything we need is scary as we are quite tight on money at mo with Bill's bdays etc my girls bday on the 8th still have to get bits there and the stuff I need is gonna be classed as non essential such sad times we are all going through because of this virus

lc86 · 31/10/2020 11:59

My local hospital has never changed the labour throughout covid, always stayed at can't have partner there until active labour and if c section they have to leave once you're in the recovery ward. I'm in wales so we are in lockdown at the moment and praying Boris doesn't say ours will last longer, this one has only been a week so far again and I'm losing my mind!! So glad we are prepared for baby with nursery and clothes etc or I'd be freaking out! 35 weeks here and baby has been on 97th centile since his first measurement, but midwife says he doesn't feel big so god knows!! Hope everyone is well, looking forward to hearing all the baby delivery news this weekend 😊

jalu47 · 31/10/2020 12:00

@kkr168 ooh that's sounds very stressful, I hope there is a way around it for you.

The whole thing is just so worrying but you're right I don't see them stopping attendance at birth and we're not too far from hospital so not much chance if him missing it even if he is at home and has to rush in. Not ideal but have to keep thinking about the bigger picture!

Sheera1 · 31/10/2020 12:11

@snowwhite2020 where do you get the updates on centralnbelt scotland maternity ward and birth restrictions. I need to be glued like a hawk to it over next two weeks. I don't see the point in my partner starting paternity if I am in hospital for a day after c section and he can't even come in. He doesn't get anything more than statutory.

@naomib79 I managed on gas and air for quite a while but it stopped working as the contractions on the drip were constant and you need breaks in it for it to work. I then had the diamorphine jag which did nothing for me then an epidural. I would go for epidural nice and early as by the time they did it the contractions were crazy and he punctured my spinal chord and got a horrific spinal puncture headache for 2 weeks after. Better to do it when things are calmer. I am very overweight so it was harder for them to do due to padding! The drip also didn't progress me at all so I might have been on it far longer than was necessary. Try get as much sleep as you can just now. Xxx

Snowwhite2020 · 31/10/2020 13:41

@Sheera1 you’re right- it hasn’t been publicised at all as far as I can tell. We are in Lothian and that is what my midwife (and the midwives if anyone I know who is due to give birth) has said about restrictions. Naomi appeared to report the same thing in Glasgow so I’m assuming since we are all in tier 3 that it’s the same everywhere. I’m sorry I didn’t mean to panic you. Phone your midwife on Monday or if you can phone your hospital for an update on their policy x

Jwl45 · 31/10/2020 14:25

I am in Wales also @lc86... And hoping that when it's lifted on 9th... My parents and in-laws will be allowed over!
I had my consultant appointment last wed... had to go by myself as have had to do throughout the pregnancy. My pre-op Is next Friday - have to go on my own for that which is fine. C - section booked for Monday the 9th. Hubby can come in when I go in in the morning and stay with me then until I go to theatre. After we get back on the ward, he can stay 2 hours but then must leave .... He can't come back until we are off home! At moment, all being well, I'll be home on the 10th. 🤞

@NaomiB79.... Hang on in there. Rest best you can ... And just think .. won't be too long before you have your beautiful baby girl in your arms 💕xx

NaomiB79 · 31/10/2020 15:10

@Snowwhite2020 @Sheera1 I'm Lothian too not Glasgow so don't know if it's different there. I saw it on Edinburgh Live news page on Facebook it was only like a tiny bit of the news one sentence that evening! The literally made the decision on Wednesday avo and said it was with immediate effect. All the midwives at the hospital said they had no warning and most of them found out about it on Twitter!

Sheera1 · 31/10/2020 15:12

@snowwhite2020 don't worry, no panic here. I was just hoping there was an actual live update site or something.

Have signed up to NHSGCC updates where I am but seems to not have changed since March.

Consultant said that at the moment partners are allowed in the ward on time slots and they stagger them and they get two hours a day but of course that can change anyday.

As a planned section at the mo DP can come with me in the morning and wait with me and begin theatre and then recovery which is pretty good. Only restricted when we move to the ward.

I am not too bothered about being in the ward myself as long as out in a day or so. It is more around wanting to maximise his time off work as he isn't off for long and will be pissed if he is home chilling playing playstation in a peaceful house and I get stuck in hospital lol.

Sheera1 · 31/10/2020 15:12

I am RAH in Paisley btw
