Ah congratulations @hagster !!! What a long haul! Warrior woman. Really pleased you had a positive experience and enjoy cuddles with your little boy xxx

SammiLou2312 · 07/10/2020 21:45

@Hagster congratulations graduate! So happy for you. Hope to see a pic of/when you feel up to it. For now, rest as much as you can xx

tmc14 · 08/10/2020 07:49

OMG, arrived at hospital at 7am, waited 45 mins, the other planned women got taken in & I got told there wasn’t a bed, they’re waiting for discharge info & I should go home & wait. I said no I was going outside to wait with DH & I’d be back in an hour for an update. I can’t believe they’re ruining this for me...feeling very down.

Avocuddles · 08/10/2020 08:21

@tmc14 how frustrating, I hope they don't keep you waiting too long.

The actual Caesarian was a surreal but amazing experience. I was so exhausted that I felt a bit disengaged from it all but was overwhelmed with emotions when she started to scream before they'd even lifted her out of me. Because I was so out of it I didn't really get much skin to skin at first which I regret, but my husband held her by my side whilst they stitched me up and looked after her for a couple of hours whilst I slept for the first time in days. I found the first day of recovery after he was sent home really tough but was surprised how quickly I did start to heal after that. I was very weak and struggling with mobility at first though having a catheter in means at least you don't need to worry about toilet trips! I'd had an initial epidural a full 12 hrs prior to the section though so potentially took longer to wear off than if I'd skipped the whole induction experience....
I think I managed a few steps about 9 or 10 hours after the section, sitting up and turning over in the bed was tough but the midwives were more than happy to help me, I must have pressed the call buzzer dozens of times over that first 24hrs! I think I had my first shower about 48 hrs after the op though know some people manage earlier, and was happily pottering around after a day or two. On day four I went for a relatively long walk around the hospital and by a week post section I felt fine going for walks and pushing the pram. Three weeks on I have to try to remind myself that I've had major surgery because I generally feel fine!

Other things I didn't really know - you'll still have lots of uterine aches and pains and vaginal bleeding post section, mine is tapering off now after three weeks but was heavy for the first couple of weeks. My scar hasn't hurt at all but my tummy still feels tender higher up.

Good luck and I eagerly await a baby announcement!

AnxiousLady1 · 08/10/2020 08:45

@tmc14 That's incredibly frustrating! We've all put up with a lot being pregnant during a pandemic and not getting access to a lot of services that should have been in place. But to mess you about like this at the 11th hour is shocking. How are you supposed to be anyway relaxed about the birth when this is the start they are setting up for you?? Really hope sticking to your guns gets some positive results today.

@babyghirl Bestof luck with your scan today. Will be thinking of you. X

Whiffle77 · 08/10/2020 09:11

Congratulations @Hagster im so happy for you! What a warrior 💪 hope you get some rest. Enjoy those baby cuddles!
Oh @tmc14 I am sorry, you are doing the right thing hanging around though - I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you. Hopefully this will all be a distant memory very soon!

Hagster · 08/10/2020 09:24

@tmc14 I'm so sorry this is being done so poorly. Hang on in there, sending you all the love for today, hope you start getting better care soon ❤️

tmc14 · 08/10/2020 09:33

Thank you all. I now have a bed, but am not on the elective list, I’m on the category 3 list definitely. The midwife is trying to find out more. I’m refusing to see the midwife who saw us all at 7am as she asked me why I was stressed & that she could sort it if I came up with a solution?! I mean wtf?! But have DH with me, just waiting it out now, will definitely be today, but no idea when. Miss my little boy but all will be ok. Thanks for listening to me rant!!

@Hagster hope you had a good first night x

tmc14 · 08/10/2020 09:34

@Babyghirl good luck for your scan today 🤞

tmc14 · 08/10/2020 09:38

Also, am so hungry!!! Last ate at 8pm... why do people mess with hungry heavily pregnant women?!

Babyghirl · 08/10/2020 09:46

There's a baby there with heart beat measuring a bit behind but I did tell them my period has went from 29 to 25 to 26 days from my loss last October so fingers crossed back in two weeks will hopefully c more then girls xx

Knotemma · 08/10/2020 09:47

@tmc14 sorry that you're having such a stressful time, fingers crossed they pull their socks up and things get turned around quickly for you. The good news is that the end result of this stressful morning will be your beautiful baby in your arms, hopefully fairly soon xx

Hagster · 08/10/2020 10:48

@babyghirl tentative congratulations, I'm so pleased your scan showed a little heartbeat.

@tmc14 well done for standing up for yourself. It's so frustrating though, why do some people talk to patients like that?! Just blows my mind. Good for putting your foot down, you can absolutely do this.

footprintsintheslow · 08/10/2020 14:53

@Hagster that's wonderful news I'm so thrilled you had a good induction too.

@tmc14 ffs you poor thing. I'm hoping you get some good news very soon. I'm very impressed by how you've handled all this and being so assertive.

@Avocuddles thanks for the c section info I think I'm going to have to read up on all of this as I know nothing about sections. How long did you stay in hospital for and what was the situation for your husband staying with you and visiting.

@Babyghirl I'm thrilled for your news so let's all hope this positivity continues!

Avocuddles · 08/10/2020 18:38

@footprintsintheslow I was in for five nights but it was nothing to do with my section. Other women on the ward went home the day after their section, or the day after that if they'd been struggling with feeding or mobility. I had to stay in because India was jaundiced and losing weight, if it hadn't been for this I probably would have gone home after 2 nights. In terms of visiting it was a bit rubbish. I had my section at 8.29am and my husband was allowed to stay with me until around 1pm at which point I was transferred from a side room to the postnatal ward - he wasn't even allowed to bring my bags into the ward, just leave them at the door for a porter to collect. The visiting hours were then just an hour a day which meant a full 24 hrs passed before I was allowed to see him again. I won't lie the visiting restrictions really didn't help me from a mental health perspective - I was very stressed and tired and could really have done with more support / hugs. Fingers crossed you won't need to stay in for long.... 🤞

tmc14 · 08/10/2020 19:04

Thank you all, it’s really helped me today xxx

Currently nameless baby girl born late this afternoon, finally! It was a long day of waiting but once we got to theatre everyone has been brilliant. She was awkward to get out due to position and I lost a bit more blood than ideal but we’re doing ok. We’re most likely staying overnight in recovery which is much nicer than the postnatal ward (they’ve no free beds up there). Keeping everything crossed I can go home tomorrow but we’ll see.

Thanks again for all the support xxx

Knotemma · 08/10/2020 19:21

@tmc14shes bloody gorgeous cx

footprintsintheslow · 08/10/2020 19:23

@Avocuddles that must've been so hard not having you husband around. I don't think I could be away from my toddler that long. I'll be giving birth in a brand new hospital and they don't have wards as such. All individual rooms so I'm wondering if that will positively affect visiting rules.

@tmc14 oh my god she's incredible. She looks the picture of health. Is your partner with you still?

AnxiousLady1 · 08/10/2020 19:54

@tmc14 Oh my goodness she's gorgeous!! Do you mind me asking what weight she is? She looks like a proper cute little squidge. 😍

tmc14 · 08/10/2020 20:28

@Avocuddles 5 nights is hard. I have to say I was fine with being on my own at antenatal appts but for me today & the next bit I would live DH here more.

@footprintsintheslow he went home for our toddlers bedtime. Because I’m still in recovery he could have stayed here though until I go to the ward, which might not be y TIL morning. We both had covid tests on Tuesday that allowed him his visitor pass. Tomorrow he’s allowed to come 11-2.

@AnxiousLady1 she was 8lb3. Over a lb lighter than my son!! So she’s not massive in overall size but is a chunkster. I make chubby babies 🤣

AnxiousLady1 · 08/10/2020 20:57

@tmc14 Wow your son was a pound heavier! I was thinking she could almost be a couple of weeks old. Proper adorable little chunkster as you say. I was debating whether it was just the close up camera angle 😂 I've my growth scan next week (at almost 37 weeks). No idea at all how it will be as my hospital don't measure bump or weigh throughout pregnancy. So I've forewarned my DH that we could very well go there and be told I need to be induced following week (If baby is bigger or smaller). 🙈

Hope you're recuperating okay and enjoying the cuddles with your gorgeous little girl. I'd imagine all the stress of this morning must almost feel like a lifetime ago now she's here!

MOGMOGMOG85 · 08/10/2020 21:04

Wow!

@Hagster congratulations! I'm so glad your induction went better than expected, although that does sound like a long night!!! It sounds like you handled everything amazingly.

@tmc14 oh. my. god. why are you getting so stressed about it??? OMG I HAVE NO IDEA WHY!!!! And I loled at your comment on hungry pregnant women haha! But I guess it all pales into insignificance now because wow - your daughter is stunning! I showed my partner and he shouted out "wow! So chonky!" which I assure you is the highest compliment - she is beautiful, those cheeks and arms melt me! We are hoping for a chubby baby but I'm not hopeful as we were both kinda skinny babies apparently.

@Babyghirl congratulations on your heartbeat - that is great news. Today you are pregnant. I will be crossing everything for your next scan - how far along are you now? xx

I had a "funny turn" today, it was really odd. I just suddenly came over really dizzy, nauseous and spaced out - as though I was on strong painkillers or something. I had to lie down and forced myself to eat a bowl of soup despite the nausea, and then kept sipping on water, and it seemed to pass after a couple of hours. I feel fine now but it was really freaky, I've never felt like that before - except when I've been on strong painkillers! Will keep an eye on it. I'm seeing my midwife Tuesday so will get my bp checked. I haven't been sleeping well, and had the flu jab yesterday both of which could have contributed to a funny turn i guess.

Congratulations to our 2 new mummies and I hope the rest of you are doing well too xxx

@Avocuddles thanks for checkin in and sharing your experience - it's really good to hear other peoples birth stories for those of us who have it looming! xxx

Babyghirl · 08/10/2020 21:21

They r saying 6 weeks 1 day but I do have a tilted uterus and a heart shape womb so until I'm further along it will be hard to tell. And that doing early ultra sounds can more but ur back until ur further along I'm hoping that's my case 🙏🤞🍀💚

tmc14 · 09/10/2020 08:44

@AnxiousLady1 she did look older yesterday! Today she looks more scrunchy newborn. Ah, hope the growth scan shows a perfectly average sized baby 🤣 although I think only one growth scan might be quite inaccurate? I had several scans and her measurements were all over the place.

@MOGMOGMOG85 I definitely take chunky as a compliment 🤣 how are you feeling today? Do you think it was the flu jab? Lack of sleep and all the stress you’ve had won’t help, I’ve been so tired lately I sometimes felt really hungover on no booze.

Had a lovely night of snuggles & feel pretty good. Feeding so far is going much better than it did with DS, keeping everything crossed that continues. I lost a bit too much blood in the op so I think whether I’m allowed home today will be based on the drain I’ve got because of that... keeping everything crossed as would love to see DS today, and also look out of a window/see outside!!!

Hope everyone is doing ok and thank you again for listening to my rants the past week... it all feels very surreal now that she’s here and it’s all done.
