@BuffaloMozzerella no I don't have one yet but it is defo on my list (have lists everywhere) 😂 yes BH are happening most days now tummy all right then releases. The body is a wonderful thing I'm going to call physio also and see what they say x

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 07/10/2020 08:51

Really liking everyone's favourite names! Totally get what you mean about the South East's inability to pronounce "th" though @Frazzlerock 😬 it drives Xanthe mad! Having only moved to the South when she was 13 she'd never had people unable to say her name!

Frazzlerock · 07/10/2020 08:57

@onlyreadingneverposting8 your DC's names are awesome. I love Xanthe too but, my god, how annoying for her that her name isn't pronounced properly! I get pissed off if someone doesn't 'spell' my name properly (with an ie instead of a y) let alone having to correct pronunciation too.

@jalu47 all those names are fab. It's so hard deciding isn't it!

Then we need to think of middle names Grin

OP posts:
NaomiB79 · 07/10/2020 09:16

I think we've settled on Quinn for our baby girl and Catherine will be her middle name which is my MILs name. Our baby will be her only granddaughter so we thought it would be nice to give her her middle name. We both love the name and it's the only one we both agreed on.

My only concern is that my sister in law will complain that it's too like our nephew's name (Flynn). She can be difficult at the best of times but she'll just need to live with it!

BuffaloMozzerella · 07/10/2020 09:37

It's nice reading everyone else's names. Before I found out I was having a boy I had loads of names I liked. Now I KNOW I'm having a boy I can't seem to settle on one. I just don't seem to love any of them or can't imagine myself shouting the name across the playground 😂

My DP is Italian so we want a name which works in both English and Italian. I like some of the Italian names but I'm hesitant to land him with a name which he has to correct constantly in English - like Giorgio or Giacomo.

What do people think of Rafael (Rafa)? Italian spelling is Raffaele (with the last e pronounced) but I think that spelling looks like a girls name.

I like Hugo but my partner pronounces it Ugo which I don't like 😂

Sheera1 · 07/10/2020 09:48

I agree with Zander not Sander. DP actually likes that one. There are not many we both agree on.

I like Zachary too but DP doesn't. My gave is Harrison and DS was almost Harrison but I have been vetoed again 😂.

I have thought girl all along and girl name is pretty fixed as Emi (thank you @frazzlerock) and we all seem to have loved it instantly and consistently.

Adyn is still up there for a boy but I prefer the way it looks to the way it sounds iyswim. Pronounced like Aiden.

Middle name is Kenyon. It is DP's granddad name who dies a few years ago and I actually really like it. It can be a first name for a boy or a girl, though was his surname.

NaomiB79 · 07/10/2020 09:56

@BuffaloMozzerella I love Rafa for a boy! It's really cool and folk will get used to the longer version and how it is spelt.

@Sheera1 Zac was top of our list if we were having a boy....I found boys names much more difficult to come up with than girls!

Frazzlerock · 07/10/2020 10:00

@NaomiB79 sod what your SIL thinks. Its a completely different name!

@BuffaloMozzerella Rafael is the name a friend gave his son - I don't think either of them are Italian either and it works well. They call him Rafi which is putting me off using Rafferty as that would inevitably get shortened to Rafi as well and it bothers me he would think I'm copying him! (we have er 'romantic' history Hmm). I also know an adult called Rafael who also doesn't have Italian roots so I thin it works well in the UK. Only thing would be the pronunciation but that goes with most names!
How would you pronounce it? Raf-ey-el? or 'Raf-ale'?

OP posts:
Frazzlerock · 07/10/2020 10:03

Ahh I'm so pleased you're using Emi @Sheera1 I've just remembered it's also the name of the mannequin in Mannequin although I think hers is spelt 'Emmy' Grin Such a pretty name!

OP posts:
BuffaloMozzerella · 07/10/2020 10:25

The Italian version is pronounced Raf-i-el-eh (hopefully got that right I tend to butcher Italian pronunciations too!)

I think the -eh on the end makes it sound feminine so was thinking to use just Rafael as we are more used this the UK.

DufferedUp · 07/10/2020 10:59

Hello ladies!

DD is now 5 weeks and I can finally say that I feel as though I'm recovered from the birth. Not sure if it was because of my geriatric status or just bad luck but this birth and recovery was so much harder than last time in my late 20s. Just 2 weeks ago I was balling to the midwife about the coccyx pain but over time that has disappeared, thank god! It's left me with a supply of support cushions that I'll never use again but they were a godsend for a brief while.

I'm still reading the thread daily but the chat is mostly pregnancy related and I want to forget that whole experience so will probs be more on the FB group.

Loving all the talk about names. I always struggled with boys names for some reason.

Mumof3almost4 · 07/10/2020 11:00

Thank you for the welcome ladies.
I'm loving all these names! @jalu47 I'm having a similar problem with our accents, we manage to say the name Rowan differently.
@Frazzlerock I love Rafferty!!

Frazzlerock · 07/10/2020 11:10

@BuffaloMozzerella I like both spellings Smile. I also like Rafa as a nickname which is what we might do with Rafferty if I can't bring myself to call him Rafi (re the friend). I would also pronounce it the same as you say.

@DufferedUp I'm so pleased you're feeling so much better! Boys names are HARD!

@Mumof3almost4 Rowan is one that DP likes and I'm thinking it might make a good middle name. How do you and DP pronounce it? I've always said 'roe-an' (emphasis on the roe)

OP posts:
Mumof3almost4 · 07/10/2020 11:41

@Frazzlerock I just make it sound harsher than DP with my Manc accent ha.

I don't think we will ever agree on a name though, we have completely different tastes. I would like an Irish one and he likes very traditional names. We rarely talk about names at the moment, we both think there's not much point when we are always saying no to each other!

jalu47 · 07/10/2020 12:20

@BuffaloMozzerella I have always loved the name Matteo and hoped to meet someone with an Italian connection lol. With no Italian in us whatsoever it would be a bit of an odd choice but still love it!

BuffaloMozzerella · 07/10/2020 12:58

@jalu47 I like Matteo too - what's putting me off is we already know a few small children and babies with the name.

I quite like Niccolò and Leo too, but again not convinced.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 07/10/2020 15:38

@DufferedUp glad to hear you're feeling better now! Such a rough start for you!!

@Sheera1 Emi is so pretty!! We have a niece called Emily so names similar have always been off the list for us.

I, funnily enough have always found girls names more difficult than boys. If this baby had been a boy he was going to be Morpheus or Christopher depending on how "way out" I wanted to be on the day!! You'll have seen from our other names that when our youngest was born I felt like being "different"! Sometimes I wonder whether it was a bit too unusual but then our eldest son (Nick) has just turned 18 and he got a tattoo of his name in Greek and was complaining that his little brother had such a good name and how he could get a really great tattoo that meant something...so maybe it wasn't too way out if an 18 yr old thinks it's "cool".

Sheera1 · 07/10/2020 15:56

I have lots of friends down in England and I think that you guys get away with names being a bit more out there, especially boys names than we do in Scotland.

Any fellow Scots want to agree or disagree. I think we are getting better but out there names are not always so accepted when School aged so need to be a bit careful. I think a bullying thing and because we tend to have lots of normal names like Paul, Craig, David etc. that people with unusual names stick out a bit.

I am trying to find a balance as although those are great names I want something a bit more interesting without making my child a target IYSWIM?

X

Sheera1 · 07/10/2020 22:29

Just coming on to groan. About to be 34 weeks. I am getting very comfy. I have not got it that bad a d thankfully have really had no issues all pregnancy but def feeling the weight of the baby in there. Quite achy and crampy down low especially when I stand from sitting for a while. Even on the sofa I just felt comfy down low. Not long to go but don't remember this feeling with DS. I was two weeks overdue and only started feeling fed up right before induction. Still 5 and a bit weeks to go. We can do this!

Frazzlerock · 08/10/2020 07:22

@Sheera1 I am getting very uncomfortable in the evenings too. I can't get comfy on the sofa so we end up going up to bed early and watching telly up there. My breathing is a real struggle during the evening and the night. Like I've been climbing a hill. I think it's when I'm trying to relax and lie back a bit, then baby pushes up against my lungs so I have to sleep almost sitting up which isn't ideal. Also sleeping on my side is giving me achy hips now despite using a massive preg pillow. So yes I feel your pain!

I can't wait to get my section date so I've got something to work towards and can properly start counting the days. Having said that,, like you, I've had a good pregnancy and I will really miss it when its over Sad

OP posts:
onlyreadingneverposting8 · 08/10/2020 09:04

@Sheera1 @Frazzlerock pretty uncomfortable here too! Baby is definitely pretty high and crushing the lungs and stomach! I can't wait for it to be over now. Usually I've been very much baby is safe inside but with this pregnancy I've had no trust in my own body and have found it really hard psychologically. I've decided to go for the c section (tbh I'm terrified of both options this time) so should get a date at 36 weeks when I go in for my next scan and clinic appointment - will that be the same for you @Frazzlerock?

Had some no so great news yesterday about our eldest son - his colitis is flaring up again so his consultant has said he must go onto long term immunosuppressants (type they use for transplant patients) and initially back on steroids - both these make him very clinically vulnerable to covid. Fortunately we decided not to send our school going kids (already home educated 3) back to school and now they do a full time internet school & our eldest opted for full time remote learning for uni (mainly to save herself money - she's a true Yorkshire lass and very tight 🤣🤣) but even so it's going to be a worry again - he obviously is the least worried - being 18 he thinks he's invincible!!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 08/10/2020 09:05

Sorry for all the bold....Sunni how that ended up happening! 🙄

Frazzlerock · 08/10/2020 09:10

@onlyreadingneverposting8 I'm seeing the consultant when I have my next scan at 35 weeks (2 more weeks) so they will book me a date then.

Sorry to hear of your son's colitis flare up Sad That sounds quite stressful and I'm sure you don't need it when heavily pregnant and moving house... How's the move looking for tomorrow BTW? (You thought maybe Friday, right?)

OP posts:
onlyreadingneverposting8 · 08/10/2020 09:22

@Frazzlerock no move tomorrow - very fed up of it! Living amongst heaps of boxes is very very annoying!

Frazzlerock · 08/10/2020 09:27

Awww man Sad This is why I don't know how you do it so much. When we moved, we were hanging around for weeks waiting for completion/exchange dates and kept getting promised dates and then they'd come and go. Never again!! Grin
