Hi all, happy Friday!

@NWnature I can't offer any advice, but I can see your dilemma. I'd definitely be in two minds.

I read through that other thread today, helpful and also a tad scary in places no?! All the things that will happen / might happen are starting to freak me out a bit. But I have been watching a YouTube channel by an American labour and delivery nurse and finding it helpful, her channel is called Nurse Zabe. She goes into detail about lots of things I didn't know much about so that's being a good source of information for me. My other YouTube pick is Mama Doctor Jones who talks about lots of things pregnancy related and has some funny videos too. Anyone else have any social media pregnancy / new mum recommendations?

Spark27 · 21/08/2020 20:37

If you're low risk and having a relatively 'easy' (ha) pregnancy @NWnature I wouldnt be adverse to a weekend away at 37w. My issues would be- would you be physically comfortable travelling that far when bigger, and would you be comfortable/awake enough to enjoy the socialising. In the evenings I like to veg out now. Would you be comfortable doing that around them? Would you be expected to be up late socialising, etc xx

BntTowers · 21/08/2020 21:25

Our city has gone up to red in the RAG rating for Covid cases, bit scared we will go into lock down soon. It's my 30th birthday next week and would love to see my mum, supposed to see her Monday and Thursday, but obviously won't be seeing them if we do go into lockdown.

@BettyBotter1 I like mamma doctor Jones and Nurse Zabe too. Really informative.

Our cats haven't been too interested in much of the furniture, one did try to jump into the cot yesterday but that's about it. DH played baby crying noises to see what they would do... Absolutely nothing, just carried on licking themselves!

Quiffy · 22/08/2020 12:41

@otterbaby enjoy your weekend away! Hopefully the weather isnt as bad as the forecast

NWnature · 22/08/2020 13:16

Haha @Quiffy hope the car seat goes smoothly! Our Installation was stressful 😂

I’m having a mani pedi! such a treat after 4 months ! Amazing foot massage. I need a serious pamper pre baby as imagine it’ll be another 4 months at least before I can emerge for appointments.

Thanks for the tips on good YouTubers girls- going to check them out!

BntTowers · 22/08/2020 21:39

@Quiffy how did the car seat fitting go? How long did it end up taking him to do?
I live in York, it is such a tourist trap and I think with the amount of people visiting it has just pushed the numbers up, will have to just wait and see of we go into local lockdown. I just want everyone to leave so there's a chance DH can be there for more of the birth.

@NWnature I would love to have a pedi at the moment, my feet are aching so much at the moment! Hope you enjoyed.

The weather is rubbish here at the moment and every time I go for my after meal walk I get caught in the rain.

blankiesandunicorns · 22/08/2020 23:50

Just picked up DH from a wedding, had to get help getting him out of the car and he's on the bathroom floor covered in vomit 😒 AIBU for not letting him sleep in our bed tonight until he's showered?!!

I'm quite annoyed but know I probably shouldn't be!

Treaclepie19 · 23/08/2020 07:31

Ugh @blankiesandunicorns I hope he's grovelling this morning. I'd be most pissed off.

Such a bad nights sleep. I rolled over and something, maybe my coccyx? Made the noisiest click and i felt it move out of place. So painful. This SPD is so bad now. Gonna have to ring the doctor and see if they can still refer me.

OP posts:
blankiesandunicorns · 23/08/2020 07:33

@Treaclepie19 he's still asleep on the sofa. I told him he wasn't getting into bed til he's had a shower as he's covered in sick. It's everywhere he's I'm quite annoyed!

Quiffy · 23/08/2020 07:58

@blankiesandunicorns I'd be really annoyed at that too. Hope he makes it up to you

@Treaclepie19 ahhh that sounds super sore ouch :(

@BntTowers I think we've got it now. The base was simple but getting the hang of getting the chair in and out took us far too long. We came in for lunch to get away from it for a while as we were both panicking about being useless parents. We worked it out after that though! I can imagine York being overrun with people on holiday, I'd be wanting them to go home too :(

My sleep is awful at the moment, the whole process is so exhausting that I dont want to go to bed. Can't get comfy, cramps, waking up every 2 hours with painful pee pressure and bad dreams.

Alana1984 · 23/08/2020 08:29

Hi guys,

I disappeared for a while, just catching up...

@blankiesandunicorns - are you sure you're not married to my ex? Lockdown has been tough for everyone, hopefully he just needed to let off steam and he'll be suitably apologetic.

Have to say, I'm getting into a routine of sleep, bed early, left side for an hour or two, right side for an hour or two, sitting up for an hour or two and repeat - with a loo break each time I wake up.... And of the course the hip pain being the reason for all the position changes, no wonder I'm tired!

This morning I woke up pretty upset, my dh wasn't allowed into the midwife appointment last week and we thought he would be, but we'd misread (the very misleading) update.

It made me wonder about the Labour wards, it says he can come in during labour but not go to the postnatal ward. It doesn't say how long he can stay post labour - I've heard it's only an hour. What's it like in your areas? Also, what are the rules normally, pre-covid?

At this point I'm considering swapping to a home birth or some sort of on the street protest birth! I'll definitely be leaving hospital the second it's safe to do so!

blankiesandunicorns · 23/08/2020 08:41

@Alana1984 yes people haven't been able to blow off steam as they normally would. He's not a big drinker at all so this is a rare thing for him but a bit annoyed he got himself into that state.
As for labour, I'm not sure on the current rules in my area was going to ask nearer the time as things change so quickly

Spark27 · 23/08/2020 09:15

I know I shouldn't laugh @blankiesandunicorns but I couldn't help myself. Classic men. I be really annoyed about the sick smell and the mess, but I would definitely use the situation to make him feel guilty for ages. A LOT of making it up to you needs to be done. You need to devise a plan- diy, housework, takeaways, foot massages, etc.

Sorry to hear you're in pain @Treaclepie19 hopefully it gets better soon. Maybe speak to someone about what painkillers you can take?

I'm 35w today and finished the baby hospital bag yesterday. Managed to squeeze it all into the backpack changing bag, so pleased with that. Means I can use a smaller cabin bag for me. Ordered a microfiber towel to save space too. Going to tell DH that hes got 2 more weeks where he's allowed to drink and then we're on baby watch.

Treaclepie19 · 23/08/2020 09:22

Makes me so glad DH doesn't really drink much now. Neither of us have much, no fun getting up with a 4yo after drinking!

Yeah @Spark27 I'm going to ring the doctors tomorrow. I need referring to physio too really.
The consultant was very dismissive of it and just said its only going to get worse until baby is out. Which is why she offered me induction. I'm still planning on holding out but it is getting harder each day.

OP posts:
Quiffy · 23/08/2020 09:37

I agree with @Spark27. I'm still benefiting off Christmas 2017 when DH drank so much red wine that he projectile vommed all over the hall and bathroom (it looked like a murder scene as it was red and splattered everywhere). I got a massive present after and it's still fun to make fun of him for it. Happy 35 weeks too!!

@Alana1984 I think every district is different - at least they seem to be letting people out pretty quick so you can get home.

Treacle81 · 23/08/2020 09:42

Morning girls! I had the return of RLS lady night, was quite painful as well as servery frustrating, hardly slept then must have fallen over as some at 4 to pee and it had dissappeared. Never got reply from mw reg omeprazole so just going to call surgery 2m as heartburn is still crippling. Visited my friend yest, she is due in 3 weeks!! So exciting. She has had no boob pain, morning sickness, heartburn or RLS, she just has the same night time struggles and tiredness but that's it. Her chest hasn't even grown, mine is like twice as big 😳. Just shows you how different we all are. Both want an average sized baby with relatively easy, quick birth right enough 🤣xx

blankiesandunicorns · 23/08/2020 10:41

@Spark27 yes I would probably find it funny if it wasn't me too 😂
But yes I will be milking it for a bit especially as Iv just had to clean the sick out of the car!

@EvieT123 Thanks and Done 😊xx

CharlieBalf · 23/08/2020 14:17

@Treaclepie19 do you mind me asking, were you offered an induction because of the SPD? I'm sorry you're suffering, I've been struggling since week 30 with it gradually getting worse and I'm about done. Can't move around, feel like I'm 90 years old!

So sorry @blankiesandunicorns - husbands aren't always the most reliable!

Treaclepie19 · 23/08/2020 14:53

@CharlieBalf sort of a mix of reasons. My consultant was going to offer it anyway as far as I know because of the pregnancy after loss element. She said she recognised after a TFMR I may be ready to have baby a bit earlier because my mental health isn't great either.
I think it is something you can ask for though if the spd is bad.

I've been doing the positive birth company videos so going to try and avoid it if I can.

roarfeckingroarr · 23/08/2020 16:11

@Quiffy hello! I've been up and down and through it but overall pretty well thank you. And yourself? I'm processing a fair bit of residual childhood grief from losing my mother and it's been tough but it's great steps forward. I'm 33 weeks today and met up with some of the women from my antenatal group yesterday who were LOVELY.

MrsK89 · 23/08/2020 16:32

@Treacle81 my midwife just brushed off my heartburn and said she can't prescribe me anything, so I've got some gaviscon to try.
To be honest I wasn't happy after the midwife appointment, seemed a bit pointless, bp and urine check, then sent me off. I get weekly bp and urine checks when I'm in the hospital so I might just cancel my next appointment. Really wanted her to write down about refusing the after birth injection and to note down Ive had previous fast labour's, but she wouldn't.
Hope everyone is feeling better today x

Pineapplemummy2020 · 23/08/2020 16:59

Hi all
Apologies for not writing to you enough.

@Treacle81, the midwife can't prescribe you anything. Mine had advised me to call my gp and ask for a prescription for the reflux and heartburn, which I did. Initially the gp didn't want to prescribe me anything, but I complained saying that this is now affecting my life massively as I can't sleep due to the reflux and I cant enjoy eating anything... so he then gave in. I'm on my 2nd round now. These pills are lifesavers!

otterbaby · 23/08/2020 17:12

@blankiesandunicorns Bork! Definitely not being unreasonable! Unless he's happy to wash all of the bedding on his own the next day!

@Alana1984 I think our rules are the same as yours. I'm planning on going to the midwife-led birthing unit next to the hospital which gives you a private room for the entire labour and your post-natal stay, where I think he can stay 24 hours as long as he doesn't leave the room. Maybe your area has something similar?

@Treacle81 I have awful RLS at night. Takes me ages to drift off, just feel like a fish out of water, flapping my legs around all night!

Slight change of subject here, but has anyone started to develop stretch marks? We were away this weekend and the bathroom had a massive mirror. Had my bath and was having a good look at my body when I discovered some - bright purple and seemingly sprouting out of my bum crack 😱 wtf!!! I was so shocked, I started crying 😂 they must've popped up overnight as they certainly weren't there a few days ago! And why my bum crack of all places!

Obviously I know they come with the territory, and I'm happy to have them in exchange for my baby. But it's definitely hard spending the last 29 years learning to love my body with all of its imperfections, finally loving it for what it is, and now learning to love these new changes as well. Blah!
