Thinking of you and sending prayers @babymama09 xx

HerondaleDucks · 03/09/2020 19:12

My boobs have been so hot and sore today.

NWnature · 03/09/2020 19:32

@HerondaleDucks mine haven’t been sore since 1st Tri but around the nipple is a bit sort of flaky (gross!) so I wonder if that’s them getting ready. I’m going to get my midwife SIL to show me how to express colostrum from 36 weeks I think!

I’ve bought some cute packing cubes from Amazon to try and inspire me to do my hospital bag. Sorry if this is a repeat Q but can I ask how many nappies are people taking? How many tena pants will I need? Will a 12 pack be enough?

Starting to order things now so I can get started in the next week or so. I’m planning on doing the baby outfits in sandwich bags tip so it’s easy for me or DH to find stuff. Again how many outfits do you reckon I need? I’ve got some small newborn stuff and then some 0-3. Like 5 of each or is that excessive? So clueless! I saw another tip to write a list on each bag saying what’s in it, helpful for ticking off last min stuff like chargers and also to guide your DH/ whoever to find stuff for you.

MrsK89 · 03/09/2020 19:37

@NWnature I've packed 3 sets for baby.
I'm not sure if I've lost some mucus plug today and been feeling crampy really low down and back ache. I didnt notice any plug or show last pregnancies so who knows.

How's everyone feeling today x

HerondaleDucks · 03/09/2020 19:40

Mine have been flaky for ages and crispy nipples. Been too embarrassed to talk about it lol.

I have 1 whole pack of maternity pads, 8 nappies, a bag of cotton wool balls, a pack of wipes, my DH army towel as it dries quickly and folds really small. I have 3 normal baby grows, 6 sleep suits, a cardigan, mitts, bootees, slippers for me, a couple of outfits, two nighties (my mum and Dsd chose them- Dsd was worried about blood so they are dark lol) and a pair of old man pjs. Some face cream, small mini shampoo, conditioner and soap, blankets for baby, lip balm, spritz your bits, a book, charger, a cold massage roller for dh to use on my back, flannel so I can have a cold compress if I need it. Erm... i think thats it atm. I don't know what else I need lol!

Treaclepie19 · 03/09/2020 19:45

Sore nipples here too!

I have packed 2 packs of maternity pads and one pack of 22 nappies. With the thought thst someone can drop off more if we have to stay in.

NWnature · 03/09/2020 19:47

@HerondaleDucks hahah solidarity there- its so mental what our bodies do and I haven’t even had any symptoms that extreme!

Ah fab so helpful thanks guys! I need to get suitable dark pjs and a towel.

Also other bits I’ve bought recently: TENS machine from amazon and my friend who has a two week old recommended silver nipple things - she swears by them for no pain/ cracking etc. Just wears them in her bra all the time when she isn’t feeding. I think they catch dribbles of milk which along with the antibac of the silver metal is healing. I’m guessing I can shove a pad over them to catch any extra leakage.

LexiM · 03/09/2020 19:50

Thinking of you and your family @babymama09 xx

In terms of packing @nwnature I've done 3 4 babygrow and vest sets- one newborn, two up to 1 month and one 0-3 month plus one cardigan for home time. I've got a whole pack of nappies, so around 20, didn't know whether to open and take half out but the packet expands when open so decided not to bother. I've got pack of 12 maternity pads.

I've seen the amounts people take to hospital vary hugely. After birth my husband can visit each day for a reasonable amount of time and he can bring extra if needed, I will just leave extra out for him as not sure he would find everything if left to it! I cannot see that any hospital is going to let you or the baby go without basics and not let extras be brought in, I mean some people end up staying for days on end and dont always know before they go in.

I've got a small ish suitcase for me although not quite packed yet plus the baby changing bag for baby bits. I feel the suitcase seems like too much but I really have looked at what I've packed and dont think its overkill estimating I will be in possibly one night, although I have done for example a nighty plus pj top and shorts as I have no idea what I will feel comfortable in after birth.

LexiM · 03/09/2020 19:52

That should say 4 sets not 34 sets haha not that prepared!

NWnature · 03/09/2020 20:09

Ah great @LexiM
I think I’ll maybe do 3 newborn and 3 0-3 outfits. I am def going to do the cabin sized suitcase, just so much easier wheeling it than lugging around anything else. I’ve got a little cool bag for the essential snack selection!

otterbaby · 03/09/2020 20:13

@HerondaleDucks mine are flaky too. I thought maybe it was dried colostrum but I've attempted (half-heartedly) to hand express with no results and haven't been leaking either, so who knows.

@MrsK89 I'm also a bit crampy. Braxton hicks are starting to be a bit more painful now too. Assuming this is just life now for the next few weeks instead of getting my hopes up that it means something!

@NWnature I've done 20 nappies and a 12 pack of pads. As for outfits, I have 4x newborn vests and sleepsuits and 3x 0-3 month vests and sleepsuits. And then 1x newborn hat and 1x 0-3 month hat. Probably overkill but I have no idea what to expect!

Feeling a bit low today - my hip is causing me a lot of pain so I just feel really weak and useless. I can't even muster up the energy to go for a walk. Just feeling really fat and lazy!

Spark27 · 03/09/2020 20:23

@NWnature I've got 2 packs of maternity pads (10 in a pack)I've found they squash down smaller if I dont open the pack to take any out.

For baby I've put in 1 pack of size 1 nappies (approx 22 I think). I've packed 3 outfits in newborn size (ziplock bag with 1 vest, 1 babygro & 1 nappy) and 3 outfits in Up to 1 month. Then got 1 pack wipes, nappy bags, changing mat, small sudacream, 3 small muslin, 2 large swaddle muslins, 1 cellular blanket, 2 dummies, 2 hats and some starter formula in case I need it. Managed to squeeze it all in changing backpack.

Had my 36w mw appt today at 36+4. Bump still measuring small at 32.5w, but mw wasnt fussed as I'm tracking along my line (approx 7th centile), and she moves around loads. Baby is 3/5th engaged so that explains the waddling and pressure down there.

BntTowers · 03/09/2020 21:38

My nipples have had little crusty dots on them for weeks, they've also been really dry for ages. In the last few weeks they have gone super dark and seem to be expanding more. I feel like if they get much bigger I won't have much boob left it will all just be nipple...

I've packed about 20 nappies I think and one pack of maternity pads, I may stick another pack in or at least leave some in the car in case I need to stay in. I've got 3 newborn outfits, 3 0-3 month outfits plus a cardi, hat and booties that mum knitted. 1 big muslin, 2 small muslins, 1 large blanket, 1 small blanket, cotton wool and waterwipes. For me I have 1 pair of leggings, 1 bf friendly dress, 1 nursing bra, 1 bralette, 2 nighties, 1 travel towel, flip flops, cotton dressing gown.

My back has been bad today, will be going to bed very soon I think.

NWnature · 03/09/2020 21:52

@BntTowers I have the dots!!! Wtf are they? Thank god for this thread honestly. PS so cute for the home knitted outfit - my mums stuff all came out a bit random size wise 😂 so I think won’t be suitable til a bit later.

I’m going to go for about 20 nappies as seems consensus! I’ve split a few packs as got some teeny pampers ones, then some newborn Ocado ones and some aldi ones so can see what seems to fit best. Got water wipes but no cotton wool. Need to get maternity pads/ tena pants!

BntTowers · 03/09/2020 21:55

@NWnature glad I'm not alone, I'm assuming it's tiny dots of colostrum which have dried up. I'm not getting any leakage yet.

MrsK89 · 03/09/2020 22:00

@otterbaby ahh hope your hips feel better soon, I'm just exhausted all the time now.
The insides of my thighs are sore tonight. Going to be a fun night rolling out of bed for the toilet 😂

@Spark27 glad it went OK. Do you have a scan booked or are they happy because baby following the centile. I have a midwife appt booked tomorrow, I'll be 35 weeks. Not sure what checks they'll do or if I can go through my birth plan. I'm hoping it's not just urine and BP test as I get that done weekly

Zaalfruit · 04/09/2020 04:16

@babymama09 thinking about you x what a lovely name x Sending you lots of positive vibes.

In terms of packing - my cabin suitcase is soo heavy , I need to check what I have packed again. The baby bag Has been packed with everything in sandwich bags and labelled for the dh. My hospital currently has birthing partner only allowed for active labour and then 1 hour after labour - depending on where you go after labour - you can have dh visit . Some wards - no visitors allowed. I need to pack my snack bag - thinking Pringles and Dr Pepper and Kit Kat’s and cereal bars .

The milk kitchen is closed in my hospital so they have said we need to bring pre made formula just in case . Does anyone have any recommendations which formula is good for new borns? My boobs have had minimum growth , no leakage - I will try and do combi feed but if bf doesn’t happen I won’t be upset- I have accepted it might not be an option .

Zaalfruit · 04/09/2020 04:17

Oh and in terms of feeling down - I spoke to the midwife - she said I need to speak to my doctors - tried my doctors , no appointments so just gave up. I am hoping it’s just hormones that’s making me feel this way.

Treacle81 · 04/09/2020 07:19

Morning girls! @Zaalfruit I'm sorry this has happened as your mw is responsible for your mental health during your pregnancy! I slept 8 hours last night 😳 💃can't believe it, not even one toilet trip!! Did climb 10 flights of stairs and did a full food shop, with no nap lol. I've had the dried in colostrum for a whilst now on and off, that's all it is. I never feel it come out just seen it at times on nipples. My nipples have been a little 'stingy' this week, as has down below when heading to toilet, think that's just pressure. Keen to know how low down midwife thinks he is next week. I now actually feel what must be his full leg or arm at my sides at times and that big bum is always sticking out! I'm off work today so doing my bit for society and testing out McDonald's triple cheese burger 😊Happy Friday girls! xx

Treaclepie19 · 04/09/2020 07:21

@Zaalfruit I had the same with the midwife. Though if you explain why you're booking a drs appointment they should sort it quickly. In the end my health visitor referred me. Might be worth one more try if you're up to it Flowers

I have my growth scan this afternoon and it's Ds's first full day in school. Emotional day today!

Spark27 · 04/09/2020 07:26

@Zaalfruit my boobs didnt change at all pre labour last time and I had no leaking and I was able to express LOADs of milk. I had to go to hospital at 6 weeks with DD and the nurses couldn't believe how much I was expressing (such a weird thing to brag about 🤣) so it's no indication. I've got a starter pack of Cow&Gate. You get 6 little bottles and the sterilised teats for them. I used Aptimil with DD but from looking into it the ingredients are the same and C&G is a lot cheaper. Newborn formula is so regulated in the UK that it's all basically the same stuff but with different branding.xx

Spark27 · 04/09/2020 07:31

Hope today goes well @Treaclepie19 . Full day at school, emotional and exciting. We've got DD moving up a nursery class in 2 weeks. Shes supposed to move around her birthday at the end of the month, but as that's 2 days after my EDD we've asked them to move it forward a bit to hopefully get her settle before baby comes.

They've not booked me in for another scan @MrsK89. I think they're just happy that I'm tracking along my own little line. They just pushed the monitoring of movements. Was a bit worried last night she seemed quiet, but then I kept falling asleep. Since I've been up this morning shes been moving around again.

My house is due to hit the market today. Cant believe how tidy it looks in the pics. Fingers crossed for immediate interest and offers 😹

Quiffy · 04/09/2020 07:33

@babymama09 thinking of you and your family x

Flakey sore nipples here too that have gone 20 shades darker 🤪 sickness ramped up again too. I’ve had it the whole pregnancy but my anti sickness tablets usually stop me. I projectile vommed all over the hall, bathroom and around the toilet on Wednesday night. Didn’t help that as I was running and puking, DH was peeing. He had quite the mess to clean up 😹 Been sick a couple of times since urgh (in the toilet woo me).

Anyone else just hating sleep? I find it exhausting. I was falling asleep at 9 last night. Got to bed at 10 but then up at 12, 2 and 4 to pee and because my legs hips are so sore. At 4 I couldn’t get back to sleep for ages, did then had a horrible dream I was bleeding so just gave up and got up at 630. So much for sleeping through the start of my mat leave.

@Zaalfruit your midwife sounds useful. Have you had a health visitor phone all, I know they look out for mh but some areas don’t do pre visits/phone calls. It’s likely just hormones but take care of yourself. For formula I think I’m going with the Aptamil starter kits.

I started my packing and I’ve sort of stopped. Will need to finish this weekend while trying to get through the rest of my 0-3 washing and ironing. Need to get the blankets and hats washed too. Think I’ll go 20 nappies too.

At least we haven’t been told local lockdown yet so parents up today ❤️

Quiffy · 04/09/2020 07:35

@Treaclepie19 oooh good luck for your scan today ❤️❤️

@Spark27 and good luck with house ❤️❤️
