Hey all! So I officially got my BFP last night, which puts me at 3weeks 3 days (I have another app telling me I'm at 4weeks 4 days) and I am due between 2nd and 8th May ❤️ I already feel super nauseous, and this will be baby number 3 (our last for sure). I was just wondering if anyone on here wanted to share this journey together - husband is brilliant but doesn't believe you can get nausea this quickly and I'm not close enough to my family to tell them just yet ☹️ so it might be a lonely journey for a little while x

@Truffle123 try not to worry, I was consultant led last time and will be this time. I don't think I saw him until 16 weeks so don't expect to see them very early on. And don't worry about the folic acid either. It's recommended until 12 weeks and I can't imagine it would make much difference for such a short amount of time to be on 5mg

Welliedays · 05/09/2020 17:32

@stepmumsw5 @truffle123 8 haven't done anything I'm 6 weeks at the moment and did a self refer to the midwife (didn't even phone the doctors surgery 🙈) and have my appointment at the hospital when I'll be about 8.5 weeks. I've chosen not to book any additional scans as to be honest I'd only do it to make sure everything is OK, but in fact, if it's not.. I'd rather not pay to find out and find out at my scan at 12 weeks (I hope that doesn't make me seem bad, but I just can't justify the cost, as for me, having a scan early won't change the outcome so I'd rather live my life not knowing until I have to!). So yeh, my plan is just follow the NHS appointments and scans and hope for the best. Not going to buy anything baby related until after the 20 week scan I don't think

Truffle123 · 05/09/2020 17:46

Thanks very much for your reply, grandmasterstitch You're right - it is only a short time. Plus - thinking more rationally now Grin - the NHS is generally cautious and wouldn't recommend something if it wasn't based on solid peer reviewed evidence. That's reassuring to know that consultant involvement comes much further on. It's so nice to be able to chat to others in a similar position. Hope your pregnancy is going well Smile

Truffle123 · 05/09/2020 17:56

Hi Welliedays! Thanks so much for your reply Smile

That does sound sensible. Like you say, the likelihood is it will all go well but it's ultimately out of our hands and might be less anxiety inducing to wait with a hopeful frame of mind rather than putting yourself through multiple scans. I'll defo have a think about that, thanks. I'm also not planning on buying anything until 20 weeks and not telling people until 12 weeks. I'll tell my nearest and dearest if it goes wrong before that but I don't like the idea of having their expectations on my shoulders at this early stage. My mum is desperate for grandkids and would drive me mad GrinHope everything is going well with your pregnancy Smile

UnicornAndSparkles · 05/09/2020 17:57

RE private consultancy; do you have insurance? I do and last time around just downloaded the app they recommended and spoke to a consultant the next day. This was migraine-related though. Im not sure how you'd go about it if you're not insured. Might be worth booking a telephone GP apt and asking them? I wouldn't worry about being overweight/obese at this stage; from what I understand its the getting pregnant that is more challenging for some with an increased BMI. Once you're pregnant the risk increase is negligible, according to my first midwife. I was a BMI of 26 and although at the lower end of the overweight scale I was really worried about it with my first pregnancy; midwife reassured me hugely.

cryptonaut · 05/09/2020 17:58

@stepmumSW5 I'm just going to follow the NHS timeline, we did the same with our first as well. I was very impatient and did consider paying for an early scan but we didn't in the end. It was an easy pregnancy and I didn't have any prior health concerns so that was fine for us. I did have one additional growth scan as the bump was measuring several weeks ahead and the midwife was concerned about excess amniotic fluid but everything was normal in the scan, the additional weight was probably because I was eating everything in sight! Blush It really is a personal choice if you want anything extra.

eternalflame2020 · 05/09/2020 18:03

Hey everyone - today's symptom is that food is not touching the sides. I am actually a bottomless pit!

The NHS is really behind in my area and the backlog is so big that first scans aren't being given until at least 14 weeks. Not sure if they'll have caught up by the time I need to book, but I doubt it!

grandmasterstitch · 05/09/2020 18:14

@Truffle123 have you joined our Facebook group? There's lots of lovely supportive people from this thread there will all kinds of experience and advice Smile

grandmasterstitch · 05/09/2020 18:15

@eternalflame2020 be aware that you can't be tested for things including downs if you have your scan after 14 weeks. You may not want to have the tests (I didn't last time) but if you do it's something to bear in mind

eternalflame2020 · 05/09/2020 18:49

@grandmasterstitch oh gosh, I didn't know that and I do want to have all the tests. Do you know if they can do those tests privately if I can't get a scan before 14 weeks? I presume that if I tell my midwife I'd like those tests that they'd get me in but if they've got a backlog then I'm not sure!

grandmasterstitch · 05/09/2020 19:00

@eternalflame2020 I'm not sure whether you would have to pay if you had then separately. They should be giving women the choice to have them though, it's not your fault they're backlogged!

Truffle123 · 05/09/2020 19:03

Hi UnicornAndSparkles. Thanks for this. Actually now you say this I’ve remembered that I do have some limited cover through my DH’s work. I’ll look into getting a private GP apt thanks 🙏.That’s reassuring about the weight issue. Hope everything is going well with you Smile

@grandmasterstitch thanks, I’ll check it out!

Happysunshine1 · 06/09/2020 09:46

Morning all. I'm 6 + 1 today. Just wondered if anyone else has been having stomach ache and upset tummy? I can tell it's not the uterus area cramping, but more linked to digestive system. My system is super sensitive anyway, but the last few days it's been really burning and cross! Does pregnancy affect your digestive system?

I've had some nausea, mostly evenings and at night, but no sickness yet.

Thanks!

eternalflame2020 · 06/09/2020 09:59

Hey @happysunshine1 I'm 6+1 too and had tummy ache all night last night. I can feel it's related to digestive system as I ate my weight in food yesterday.

I have been so irritable the last couple of days. I've woken up and really had a talk to myself about being nicer to OH as I feel so guilty. He's the sweetest guy and I've been so snappy. I'm thinking I need a gesture to apologise!

Happysunshine1 · 06/09/2020 10:06

@eternalflame2020 I'm glad to hear it isnt just me, but sorry you have the sore tummy too! Yeah I think it may be the same for me, I've been trying to eat more red meat to help with iron levels, and also had a craving for a bacon sandwich yesterday which I dont usually eat! My system is maybe surprised at the food and also suffering with hormone changes!

Also I'm the same with feeling snappy. Last night i got cross with my DH as he wouldn't let me swap pillows! Haha! X

eternalflame2020 · 06/09/2020 10:10

@happysunshine1 haha I stropped because he wasn't hungry at the same time as me 🤦🏻‍♀️

I think I at least owe him a breakfast in bed for that one!

Sorry to hear your uncomfortable too. It does sound like it's food related. I always wake up hungry but I ate so much yesterday that I'm still full!!

Happysunshine1 · 06/09/2020 10:14

@eternalflame2020 haha! I think that's a legitimate reason to get stroppy!

Hope your tummy ache gets better today. I'm going to try and eat a bit less and some easier to digest food!

Hope you all have a good Sunday!

Soph212 · 07/09/2020 07:39

Hi!

I found out I was pregnant on the 1st of Sept and it was a complete surprise and my partner and I hadn’t been trying. Due 1st May 2021 and feels so surreal. We are both so excited but I am the most anxious I have ever been in my life and already feel like something is wrong!!

First three nights I couldn’t stay asleep and kept waking up constantly and still now wake up 2/3 times a night. I am now also experiencing a lot less symptoms than I had been the past few days and am now convinced it hasn’t stuck.

Has anyone got any advice on dealing with the anxiety for the first trimester? This is our first baby and haven’t told anyone yet, as too nervous about something going wrong!!

Gingergeek89 · 07/09/2020 09:20

@Soph212 hi I’m also pregnant with my first and as someone with generalised anxiety disorder the BFP has made me very anxious too. I have found that speaking to a close family member (my mum) has been really helpful. I figured that if something were to go wrong I would want her support at that time. Whilst you may be concerned about jinxing things, your health has to come first and talking through things can help you focus out a bit. I’ve also avoided repeated testing as I get too overly analytical and avoid the internet. Stick to the NHS website and I have bought the Pregnancy day by day book which gives much more balanced information so you may find something there that is helpful. I also suffered from insomnia but started to sleep through the night after a few days and just rest when your body tells you if you can. Remember our bodies have evolved for this and whilst we can’t control everything odds are still in your favour. Hope all goes well for you
