@Workingmama1 I’ve been crampy the last 3 evenings, I think it’s growing pains so I’m finding it somewhat reassuring xx

Poppy10121 · 09/09/2020 21:13

Congratulations @SkyBlue20 so happy for your news 😊 I’m sorry your husband wasn’t able to be there though. Hopefully next time! 🤞

SmileyT · 09/09/2020 22:08

@SkyBlue20 congrats on a successful scan, I'm so happy for you. I felt very much the same about my scan on Monday definitely not as much 'fun' as the private ones so I'm glad that OH had seen bubs a couple weeks before as the NHS one was longer but dare I say more boring 😂 I've already booked my 16week scan 🙃

RosieJess91 · 10/09/2020 09:24

At the maternity unit I hate, they have their own private screens and then they turn on a big TV screen on the wall for the parents to see as well, I just assumed that was the same everywhere, obviously isn't as you don't get to view the whole thing.
They didn't turn on the big screen last time and that's how I knew something was wrong. That's what I'm dreading. We've been discussing going for a private one next week now because the maternity unit shot my OH coming with me down immediately. Is £59 a good price for a private scan?

Lu93 · 10/09/2020 10:55

@RosieJess91hey, that’s a good price I had one last week and paid £79 it was worth every penny to be honest to put our minds at rest it was a company called window if the womb I think they have a few different branches over England and can go in with someone too xx

Sakura54 · 10/09/2020 11:41

@RosieJess91 Same, my hospital have a screen in front which is cool, but not so great when my MMC was discovered as I didn’t want to see it but obviously I did. My first hospital didn’t have screens so you just lie there in silence not knowing what they’re looking at.

My 12 week scan was so quick, he literally took measurements, showed me the heartbeat and we were done. He didn’t say anything despite knowing I was scared, apart from to ask if I wanted to video it but I declined as I CBA. The 20 week one is better so if they offer, I’ll video it to show DH.

Ah a few of you are having the test too. I reckon you’ll be fine. It’s rare to get GD, I just have bad luck when it comes to pregnancy matters and ‘rare’ things happening to me. TBH @DanceM1 I’m eating sweet stuff like normal as I know it won’t make a difference to my result. I only really eat it for breakfast (cake, biscuits, pastry, sweet cereal, jam) as I don’t really snack or have dessert. I just hope I don’t have GD right now as 5 months is a heck of a long time to cut out sugar and eat brown bread etc. I also find that sweet things make me feel better when nauseous. I’m kinda underweight as it is so limiting my diet isn’t going to be great.

@bubblybon20 Are you keeping track of what’s going on with the baby? There’s a lot of development at 16 weeks you know. Baby is the size of an avocado and can hear, taste and smell. Crazy right and that’s pretty big! My placenta wasn’t mentioned during my scan so I don’t even know where it’s positioned so will be waiting to feel kicks for however long.

RosieJess91 · 10/09/2020 12:25

I meant have, not hate before... wish there was an edit button!

The one I found was Window to the Womb as well, special offer in Southampton it said...

@Sakura54 That's awful, I assume that's why they turn it off at first in mine. Just in case. Sorry you had to see it 😔

Workingmama1 · 10/09/2020 12:33

@RosieJess91 yes I'd say £59 is a good price. Some people seem to get them on Groupon a bit cheaper but guess there has to be an offer on!

@Sakura54 that's so sad that you had to see it with your mmc and didnt have a choice. With my daughter they didnt ha e a screen, my husband could see it all but I couldn't.

With my mmc I ended up getting a private scan to confirm what was going on, I explained when I got there and they didnt turn the screen on while they scanned me but then asked if i wanted to see. My private scan last week the screen was on from the start which was nerve racking!

Hoping to get back from holiday to a scan date, the midwife said I should get the letter by the time I'm 11 weeks.

bubblybon20 · 10/09/2020 12:43

@Sakura54 my first scan was the same! I know they have to focus ect, but felt like I literally had the scan and had to go! I have been keeping track of daily updates, now the placenta has very nearly developed, I feel I literally have no symptoms at all! They also didn't mention were mine was, but during my private scan she mentioned I should feel some bits at 16 weeks! 😀 I can't get over baby been the size of an avocado! I'm pretty certain I felt a flutter a minute ago, I was bent doing my laces and felt a weird fluttery thing! So hard to tell what baby could be! Only 24 to go! 🤣🤣 maybe 25, if I have another stubborn!

I enjoy private ones a little bit more as they spend a while letting you watch what baby is doing.. hence why I have another booked this weekend 🤦🏻‍♀️🙈

Poppy10121 · 10/09/2020 12:59

That sounds awful to see the MMC on the big screen! I never saw mine, the sonographer just looked on their own screen and didn't turn it to show me like they had with the one before where there was a heartbeat. I have my private scan at Window to the Womb next week and think maybe I should tell them to only show me anythingif it's good! @RosieJess91I am paying £49 for mine, weird how it varies by location it seems!

SkyBlue20 · 10/09/2020 14:06

Afternoon everyone! How are we all?

@Workingmama1 Agreed that not giving a number is good. I hope I do get a letter of some sort - my main concern is that if I don't get anything, how do I know I've not just been missed? (Silly, I know). We're giving it until tomorrow evening and then going to tell friends I think. Sure your cramps are all absolutely normal but understand how they can be concerning! Hope you're doing ok today. When do you head off on your hols? xx

Thanks @Poppy10121

@SmileyT Fully agree - the NHS one was much more boring! What date have you booked your 16 week one for? Think we're going to book a private one for around 18 weeks (or earlier if the anxiety is back before then!) and find out the sex at it - realised DH might not be able to be at the NHS one and we'd like to find out together.

@RosieJess91 £59 seems reasonable to me - it's about what they are at Window to the Womb near us and around what we paid at Ultrasound Direct last pregnancy, I think (actually, that may have been more!)

How's everyone doing clothes-wise? Even my loosest of jeans are getting a bit tight now, the top button is having to be kept undone. I've tried the hair bobble trick but I half tuck in most of my tops so doesn't really work as you can see it. I'm going to tackle the shops after work tomorrow I think (😫) and see what I can find - feels too early for full on maternity trousers as surely I'll just need to buy more as I get an actual bump (or do they grow with you)? Might see if I can find nice trousers with a stretchy waist. I don't really wear leggings so they're not a solution for me. I have a fair few dresses I can wear for when I go out and about but I get cold working in the dining room all day so would rather trousers and a jumper, same for walks and the like.
This is such an awkward stage and I've had a Google for inspo but there's not much out there so just wondered what everyone else was doing?

ew1990 · 10/09/2020 14:18

@skyblue20 I think they just grow with you. With DD I just got my usual size and they lasted through to the end but I got under bump trousers and jeans not sure about over the bump ones. Although I'm in maternity work pants now and they are over the bump ones and have a thing to loosen them as I get bigger

bubblybon20 · 10/09/2020 14:57

@SkyBlue20 I am currently still in my jeans.. but not my high waisted, as I learnt my lesson to avoid them after the weekend! The ones are mid-rise just normal ones from river island that seem to have a fair bit of stretch still. I've got a couple of ASOS maternity leggings which are fairly priced & some love oversized tops purely to keep me comfortable.
I haven't personally looked at getting maternity jeans yet, as I'm unsure which I would prefer 🤣 let me know if you manage to find any super comfy 😂

RosieJess91 · 10/09/2020 15:12

A load of maternity clothes have just arrived in the post for me, I promised myself I wouldn't buy any yet as I wanted to get to the scan, but I can't fit into anything, so it was needed!

Got a fairly decent picture of my bump today, doesn't look as big in the picture as it is in real life though...

Poppy10121 · 10/09/2020 16:25

@RosieJess91 lovely bump!

@SkyBlue20 I'm having the same problem but refuse to buy maternity clothes yet, I normally wear Mom jeans but I just bought some cheap jeggings type ones from Matalan a size bigger than I normally would get, they are really stretchy! But wouldn't work if you like to tuck in I don't think, I have a few big loose shirts I am wearing at the moment. Sometimes when I am in the office I wonder if everyone thinks I just got really chunky in lockdown (also true!)

I also bought 2 oversized jumpers in the sales, that I think look ok with jeans/leggings now and hopefully will accommodate a growing bump too. But I have made a rule for myself that I'm only buying things I would still wear if I wasn't pregnant (for now) because I don't want to tempt fate. Hopefully I chill out a bit in a few weeks. If we get a successful 13 week scan my first stop is gonna be a shop to buy some proper maternity jeans!

Pugprincess · 10/09/2020 17:01

Hello all. Had my risk assessment at work now 😊 still having some growing pains each day-a little feeling sick but not bad at all I can’t complain. Think I’m learning to manage it well by not eating too much but little and often, my main meals are smaller than before pregnancy but I snack more lol. Also we managed to dtd last night and no spotting so far so hopefully we don’t have to have a dry 7 months 😂🤞🏻 8+2 today.

Clothes wise I’m in my normal clothes minus jeans (I wear tights or leggings at work) and scan price wise my place I’m using is £40 for early pregnancy scans, price will go up a bit after 1st trimester. More for 4D too. X

Pugprincess · 10/09/2020 17:03

@RosieJess91 lovely bump pic 💖

Bump pic from me. I look huge for 8 weeks but I was sat down and after lunch 😅

SkyBlue20 · 10/09/2020 18:21

Thanks everyone, so helpful to hear what you're all doing (and also that maternity jeans grow with you)! I don't feel ready to buy maternity clothes yet (I still can't quite believe I'm actually pregnant 😂) but I'm hating getting ready every morning as my options are very limited. Weirdly, it's not as bad when I'm actually going somewhere, as I have dresses and some slip skirts I can wear, but to just hang around the house it's joggers (that I don't like to wear daily for work) or the same two or three pairs of jeans on rotation. Tops aren't an issue (for now) as I wear oversized anyway. Will let you know how I get on shopping tomorrow!

Great bumps, @RosieJess91 @Pugprincess!

Glad you've had your risk assessment, PugPrincess, and that you're managing the nausea!

My back is absolutely agony, I'm going to finish up some work then do a yoga session, I think - I think the fact I'm hardly moving nowadays probably isn't helping. Must try and get in to a proper yoga routine if nothing else, but I wake up late as I'm tired, am starving by lunch so can't do it then, and end up working late every night so don't have the time. Must start finishing work at a decent time and get at least 20mins in. This is me holding myself accountable!

DH and I have decided that we're going to go for our private gender scan on the 9th - it was the due date for our previous pregnancy so seems like a nice thing to do. We also ordered a Jizo statue yesterday, as our little something to remember the last baby by, has anyone heard of them? Apparently they're becoming more and more popular amongst women who have experienced child loss as Jizo is meant to protect children who passed away and unborn babies. Interesting article here:

kokoro-jp.com/culture/1253/

We just really liked what it all stood for and I like that we can have this tiny little memento in out living room and only we will know the hidden meaning, unless anyone explicitly asks 💕

SkyBlue20 · 10/09/2020 19:47

Just found this yoga series, if anyone is looking for one - there's a session for every week of pregnancy from 4 to 40. I just did week 13 and it was quite good - quite short but good for easing back in. I think I'm going to try and do it a few times a week if I can.

RosieJess91 · 10/09/2020 21:06

It's been a day of my partner, parents and neighbours all touching the bump today and looking stunned at how huge it is. Don't feel bloated in the slightest. A few have mentioned multiples and a few have said 2nd time mum's always show quickly. So who knows...

Sakura54 · 10/09/2020 22:52

I have to say since having to take DS to nursery, I feel like I ache less in general. Even though it’s just a tiny 4 min walk there and back twice a day, it forces me to take a walk and I push the buggy which is a workout in itself.

@bubblybon20 You’re so lucky to not get symptoms. Did you get much with your boys? I’m this far along yet I’ve been nauseous today and puked while brushing my teeth, yuk. Didn’t think that was going to happen anymore, but I'll just take it as a good sign that things are progressing instead of being annoyed. I also thought I felt something like two punches but nah it must be wind at this stage...

@RosieJess91 TBH I think it’s more weird/rare to have no bump when it’s not your first, as opposed to getting big so quick, so you’re ok I reckon. There’s a heck of a lot going on in there after all and maybe you won’t get too much bigger? We’ll be looking forward to finding out once and for all how many you’re cooking! I don’t think I’m normal lol but I’m cool with it as I don’t want to get big anyway. Although I might suddenly pop. My mum keeps giving me larger size dresses and tops to borrow to accommodate a bump, even though I told her to stop, bless her.

I received my appointment yesterday for my scan, I don’t know if I’m being stupid or not but it does say I can bring a partner with me. Have the rules changed now? Or is this just a generic letter and they just change the date per patient 🤣 It’s for the 7th October which is a bit annoying because I will be 13 weeks... I know it’s only a week over but it’s my husbands birthday on the 2nd and mine on 4th! I wonder if they’re flexible to move them, hope everyone’s doing okay :) xx

bubblybon20 · 11/09/2020 09:05

@Sakura54 no didn't get anything until the last 10 weeks with the boys, which was heartburn if anything! Makes me think this ones another boy!
Oh 😔 your symptoms haven't eased much then? Yeah I think that's what mine was, just wind.. I won't believe any kind until they're proper kicks 🤣

16 weeks tomorrow 😱😫 it's actually scary!

Workingmama1 · 11/09/2020 09:15

@lu93 some places are letting partners in now so hopefully they are where you are! You could always ring and try to change the day, saying you can't make it but they might try to push it back not forwards! Great that youve got a date to work towards though. I'm hoping to get mine through before we go on holiday but we go tomorrow morning so it's doubtful...

@RosieJess91 how lovely to have a bump so early! I was convinced mine was all bloat as it gets worse in the evening, but then this morning it was still there and I'm noticing it when I bend over, I don't think I felt like that till gone 20 weeks with my daughter and I'm only 10!

@sakura54 the nursery run is my exercise too, its about 15 minutes each way so it's a decent walk, it's the only time a leave the house during the week!

My crazy dreams returned last night but at least they were non violent 🤣

Where I used to do hot yoga has finally opened back up, and I still have £50 of class passes to use, but obviously now can't do hot yoga! Annoyingly she used to do pregnancy yoga but doesn't seem to have it on her timetable anymore. Guess I'll try and stick to online, will check out that link @skyblue20

RosieJess91 · 11/09/2020 09:31

Maybe it isn't twins like everyone keeps scaring me with, maybe it is just early showing. I mean, this is my 3rd pregnancy this year (sort of...) and would be 2nd baby. Maybe it's normal. Just showing a lot earlier than I did with my son. 🤷‍♀️
