@FoxtrotOscarPoppet my midwife said I can have the flu injection at any time. It's just the whooping cough vaccination that they advise you wait until after 16 weeks for.

AlbertCookie · 24/09/2020 11:52

I had my appt with the midwife yesterday for height, weight, bloods etc. I let her student midwife do my bloods as I'm really not scared of needles at all, she was shaking so much bless her!
I will see her again at 16 weeks, and in the meantime Ive got an appointment with the consultant on 29th October.

I thought I might phone the GP about the flu jab after my scan next week!

Parkandride · 24/09/2020 12:01

I was wondering about flu jab, wasn't sure if we automatically go on the GPs list or if that was finalised ages ago and places like boots are just doing over 65s due to shortages. Keep getting text from GPs saying not to bother them as they're so busy!

SazCat · 24/09/2020 12:14

Got my scan date through yay! Weds 14 Oct when I'll be 12+5 (think my dates be a little out tho)

It differs so much everywhere, my midwife has told me to wait to 16 weeks for my flu jab and have it the same time as whooping cough!

BuckleUp · 24/09/2020 12:36

@FoxtrotOscarPoppet I just went to my pharmacy and asked for it. They tell your GP so it goes on your medical record.

@AlbertCookie That was good of you. It must be so scary working on real patients as a trainee!

@SazCat Yay! That must be a relief. Plenty of time for the NT test if you've opted for it too

SazCat · 24/09/2020 12:46

@buckleup The midwife didn't ask me about the screening at my booking in, it does explain it in my appt letter though.

I think we have decided not to have them this time, does anyone know of we just have to make them aware on the day?

BuckleUp · 24/09/2020 12:58

@SazCat I think they ask before they do the scan and may take some measurements anyway as a matter of course. I've never done it though, so maybe someone else can give more information?

Tiff94 · 24/09/2020 13:21

@SazCat just had mine done this morning when they start your scan the sonographier will ask if your wanting to get it done that's when they get your permission She will the take a measurement of the back of baby's neck and other measurements feet/hands/head ect and they will do urine and blood test as well with it. It will all get sent off and you get the results about 10days later

Lynz2020 · 24/09/2020 14:21

I've had a little bit of brown discharge today , about 4 times going to the toilet so I'm hoping all is ok. I rang the epu who said to keep an eye on it and if it got worse to ring my gp or go to a&e as there was nothing they can do. So I rang the midwife who said she would ring them for me. I'm now waiting for a call from epu to assess me.

Parkandride · 24/09/2020 15:31

Oh @Lynz2020 it's always such a worry, it really probably is nothing especially if just brown. Have you had a scan or sex or exercised or anything? Hope you get some reassurance soon x

Lynz2020 · 24/09/2020 15:35

@Parkandride Its hard when it's happened before. I had a scan at 8 weeks where all was fine and I'm now 10 weeks. I just wish epu would just scan and not keep sending people away that's what they are there for, for any issues you have.

Lynz2020 · 24/09/2020 15:36

@Parkandride I've literally done nothing out of fear and was waiting for the 12 week mark to do anything.

Lynz2020 · 24/09/2020 17:47

The epu rang before and said could I go in for a scan tomorrow afternoon so at least that's a bonus, hoping everything is alright. Not sure why it would change since my 8 week scan was 2 weeks ago and they saw no problems.

pandabear437 · 24/09/2020 19:47

I’ve been waiting all week to hear back from the scanning department to get my 12 week scan moved earlier but just given up now and am booking a scan and harmony test with a lovely private clinic. It’s a bit more expensive that what au would have to pay with the NHS but ultimately such a better service. I’ll probably cancel my NHS scan because she’ll do the Nuchal measurements and the bloods for the standard screening tests as part of the package.

Getting exciting in the run up to these scans isn’t it :)

Same here.

I think should keep the nhs scan so you don’t get lost in the system (I have no basis for this, but I don’t trust the hospital to get it right!).

LeopardLover · 25/09/2020 09:58

@FoxtrotOscarPoppet Are you feeling any better today? MW said to get flu jab as soon as I wanted, so I'll probably get it within the next month after last year - I couldn't get one until 23rd December as they ran out in the city!

@AlbertCookie Oh bless the student midwife! I think I'll likely be in the same situation when I get bloods next week.

@KeepSmiling89 Ahhh! What a scary dream. I haven't had one like that yet, thankfully. Hope it doesn't happen again!

@Parkandride We haven't told anyone yet so the thought of telling a stranger is quite appealing 😅

@BuckleUp How are the kittens settling in!? My heart! They are sooooo cute 😍 more DIY today 😭🤣

@AprilShowers2021 I don't think the apparent baby boom is helping the situation either 😬 I live in a big city so I imagine it's always this slow tbh... Can't wait for a scan date though!

@SazCat YAY for your scan date 👏🏻

@Tiff94 How was your scan experience and how are you feeling? ❤️

@Lynz2020 Hope your scan goes well this afternoon and puts your mind at ease. 💕

@pandabear437 Oh that's a pain but if you can afford it, I think it's worth taking the more efficient route for speed and peace of mind!

BuckleUp · 25/09/2020 12:25

@Lynz2020 How are you today? What time is your scan? I hope the discharge has stopped now. I think some bleeding around 10-12 weeks isn't unusual, something to do with the placenta embedding. Thinking of you x

@pandabear437 I would definitely keep the NHS scan unless you're planning on staying private throughout. Just don't bother getting the harmony test with them as you'll have the private results.

@LeopardLover The kittens are adorable. DH is in charge of poop operations which is hilarious because didn't realise kittens went to the toilet so often 😂. Have fun DIYing!

pandabear437 · 25/09/2020 12:37

@BuckleUp it’s tricky - whoever does the harmony also does a scan as part of the assessment, actually the private clinic I’m going with is going to do a brief dating scan, usual NHS screening bloods and the harmony on one day, then a week later will feed back the results and do a more in depth scan. I think an NHS scan in top of that would be overkill and I’m not hugely keen on having unnecessary scans.

BuckleUp · 25/09/2020 12:40

@pandabear437 I understand your reluctance to have unnecessary scans. Maybe it's worth talking to your midwife about it? Though I suppose bad communication is why you've needed to go private in the first place!

haidri · 25/09/2020 12:41

No symptoms & experiences spotting. It's my first pregnancy and I'm 24.. am I overthinking this or is there something wrong???

pandabear437 · 25/09/2020 12:45

@buckleup ☺️ Yeah true. I chatted with my midwife yesterday, and she thought ultimately it was probably better to go with private given how busy the NHS is at the moment. The other factor is I’m starting to remember dealing with fetal
Medicine before when things didn’t go well with a previous pregnancy. They were really lovely, but the service isn’t as good a private (understandably). I think emotionally I feel a bit safer with a private clinic who have a bit more time to give me the reassurance I want.

BuckleUp · 25/09/2020 12:52

@haidri Hello, how far along are you? Not everyone gets symptoms. Some spotting is common in early pregnancy too, but you shouldn't have bad abdominal pains, heavy bleeding or very red blood with clotting. If you're concerned you could ring your GP for a referral to the early pregnancy unit (epu). I hope everything works out for you x

@pandabear437 It sounds like you've made the best decision for you and your midwife is supportive. At least this way you may get better emotional support. I'm sorry your experience with the NHS has been so negative in the past. Best of luck with your scans 😊

haidri · 25/09/2020 13:03

@BuckleUp I went for an early scan and she was shocked I even had a child in there. She said I've got a small sack and low levels Sad

BuckleUp · 25/09/2020 13:10

@haidri When did you have your scan? Did they say how far along you were? If they're concerned I think they would refer you to a specialist, or give you more information about what to expect over the next few weeks. Have you been allocated a midwife yet? You could try calling them for advice x

AprilShowers2021 · 25/09/2020 13:15

@pandabear437 I dont blame you for going private. I'm considering a private midwife, but reluctant to spend the money when it could go on other things. It's a tough decision, but I just don't feel comfortable with the level of care I migt receive, especially in a pandemic.

@lynz2020 I hope all goes well today and thinking of you.

@haidri praying everything will be ok and fingers crossed your levels pick up.
