My PGP is awful. I walked around 4 miles yesterday, took my 4yr old to an outdoor adventure park and it destroyed me. Just been to feed the ducks and then on to a date for lunch. I'm in agony with it! I'm over this pregnancy now. Its really taking its toll.

1990shopefulftm · 02/09/2020 13:29

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt sorry that you're struggling, most places wouldn't do it in person anyway but could you ask your midwife if it's worth getting physio

krissy12 · 02/09/2020 13:41

@GhostWorld I would probably just phone up even just to save you worrying

1990shopefulftm · 03/09/2020 09:23

I've started doing gentle exercises on my birthing ball and it seemed to help my back pain yesterday so hoping that I can ask to use one during labour. Is anyone considering a tens machine for their labour? seems people are hit and miss as to whether it helped them or not.

SJR86 · 03/09/2020 10:22

@1990shopefulftm I'm planning on using a tens machine, apparently ones with a 'boost' button you can press during a contraction are the most useful. Think you can start using them before you actually go into labour to get used to the sensation and practice knowing where to position the pads so you are activating the right nerves.
Worth giving anything a try!

1990shopefulftm · 03/09/2020 10:53

@SJR86 I was hoping to try a water birth but was thinking tens could be a good alternative option and that I could use it at home so that i could hold off before going into the midwife unit longer, are you renting one or have you bought one?

SJR86 · 03/09/2020 10:58

@1990shopefulftm yes that's my thinking too, hoping it will help me to stay home until we absolutely have to go in! We've been lent one, just need to buy some new pads. Mama tens is one that has been recommended on our antenatal course, think there are a few second hand ones online for cheaper than the cost of renting one.

1990shopefulftm · 03/09/2020 11:07

@SJR86 i've found one I can rent for £24 which doesn't seem too bad.

Flora20 · 03/09/2020 11:51

@1990shopefulftm I used a TENS last time, up until I was approx 8cm when I got into the pool instead. I rented one last time for less than £20 but hubby bought one a few weeks ago (turns out he's bought all the same birth stuff we used last time, he's only just told me 😂). I still don't know how much it helped but it was fab for giving me something to do during the surges and I got so far along with just that, figure it certainly didn't hurt!

1990shopefulftm · 03/09/2020 11:56

@Flora20 that sounds very positive

FirstSurprise001 · 03/09/2020 12:12

@1990shopefulftm do you mind saying where you’ve rented yours from? I’ve been looking into it the last couple of weeks and the only rental I’ve found with good reviews was on boots for £32 but to buy from boots it’s £39 so not sure which route to go down!

Like you all I’m hoping it’ll help with staying at home for as long as possible before venturing into hospital!

1990shopefulftm · 03/09/2020 12:40

@FirstSurprise001 i m considering going for this one www.birthease.co.uk/product/elle-tens-hire/

FirstSurprise001 · 03/09/2020 12:57

@1990shopefulftm thank you!!

1990shopefulftm · 03/09/2020 13:09

Had a telephone appointment through for the health visitor, not sure how it can be 45 minutes when it's not in person but will see how it goes, I presume they only ever want to speak to mum ?

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 03/09/2020 13:23

I used a tens for all of 10 mins with my first. It annoyed the heck out of me Confused. I found breathing and pacing helped me most. I got to 10cm at home without anything else.

1990shopefulftm · 03/09/2020 13:59

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt did you try the tens before labour or do you think you would only have known it didn't suit you during labour anyway?

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 03/09/2020 14:50

Defo just didn't suit me. I didn't really have much of a chance for anything. I ended up pushing in the car on the way to the hospital so I didn't get any pain relief of any kind. I found the wires frustrated me etc

roarfeckingroarr · 03/09/2020 15:02

I bought a TENS with new pads on eBay for £17! One with a boost button.

1990shopefulftm · 03/09/2020 21:50

I feel like 95% I m quite calm about labour and afterwards but then 5% of the time I m having little wobbles that make me quite nervous. Like tonight , I know my hospital expects women and birth partners to get covid tests done before elective sections however there's no info on what if you have to have an emergency one so had a bit of a panic tonight about how to time a test so I wouldn't be in that situation alone just incase everything didn't go to plan with a midwife unit birth.

Mc3209 · 03/09/2020 23:20

@1990shopefulftm if you will need an emergency section, they will do it timely test or no test.

I need to stop spending money on post pregnancy wardrobe. Got a few nursing tops that look presentable and shapewear jeans and a belt thingy that should hold the shrinking belly in. I am not sure I will fit into any of my pre- pregnancy clothes for good few months after birth..

1990shopefulftm · 03/09/2020 23:27

@Mc3209 I know it doesn't sound particularly logical at all, but I think the reason I ve got so anxious comes down to I m more scared of having a c section or an induction alone than I am of the actual procedure itself.

I ve kept all my bras but the rest of my pre pregnancy clothes are in the loft, just imaging I ll be in baggy tops and leggings for a while afterwards. You could always keep the tags on them put them on eBay incase you don't end up using all the nursing clothes.

Mc3209 · 04/09/2020 08:24

@1990shopefulftm it's very tough, isn't it. This corona crap has thrown spanners in the wheels. Fingers crossed all goes to plan!

1990shopefulftm · 04/09/2020 08:27

@Mc3209 I really hadn't expected this situation to go on for so long. I m sure it ll all feel worth it when we meet our babies

SamK93 · 04/09/2020 08:46

@1990shopefulftm yeah when it all came about in March I for one definitely thought oh it should all be fine by October.

1990shopefulftm · 04/09/2020 08:50

@SamK93 yeah I genuinely thought if I stick to the guidelines the majority of the country would do the same and we d get through it like the swine flu pandemic and then that bubble burst after a few months realising that some people don't care at all when they aren't at a high risk themselves or know someone that is.
